| 8 Reasons Why Every Girl Needs a Gay BFF … Posted: 26 Nov 2010 11:56 AM PST Grace had Will, Carrie had Sanford, Charlotte had Anthony – a fictional, on-screen bond between a straight gal and a gay male is not just a marketing trick or the network's way to be politically correct. In fact, many celebs and normal girls like you and me have realized that GBFs (gay BFFs) are those honest friends-for-life they have been unsuccessfully trying to find for many years. Now, if you are still managing to resist this global trend and you still don't have a gay BFF, here are 8 good reasons why you should definitely give it some thought: 1. Male viewpoint
You could spend days talking with your girl BFF, relive and explain every single detail of your date, interpret all his body language signs and still have no clue if is he into you! A gay BFF, on the other hand, has enough "male brain" to know exactly how "his kind" thinks and enough "female brain" to explain everything to you over a cup of coffee. 2. Fashion tipsPhoto Credit: papadont Remember how Sanford was always there to comment on Carrie's "date with Big" outfit? Well, a gay BFF will always be there to give an honest opinion so, if your ass really looks fat in those pants you'll learn about it while you still have the chance to change into something more flattering. A girl might lie just so she could be the one to finally steal the spotlight! She might not have the guts to tell you the real truth thinking you will interpret that as a sign of jealousy. However, a stylish gay man knows exactly what will make the straight part of his kind go crazy and he has no ulterior motives or reasons not to tell you that! |
| 8 Annoying Things Men Assume About Women … Posted: 26 Nov 2010 11:20 AM PST It can be very annoying when someone or a group of people make assumptions about others before even getting to know them properly. Often enough these assumptions can be completely wrong. Here are 8 annoying things men assume about women. 8. Hours to get ready when going out
Whenever a man sees an attractive woman they often think that it has taken her a long time to prepare. This is not always the case, this woman could be naturally beautiful and it could only take her a few minutes to throw on some clothes, brush her hair and she is ready. As far as assumptions go this can be one of the most annoying especially when some men take hours pruning themselves and applying moisturiser. 7. That you need a Dummies Guide to sports
When it comes to sports women are often not taken seriously by men, it is assumed that they know nothing about sports and are just watching it because of attractive men playing. Okay in some cases this may be correct but there are a lot of women out there that probably know more about sports than some men. 6. Just because you own a pair of ovaries you must want kids
Not all women want kids and some women actually dislike children, yet men still hold a belief that all women want is babies. This assumption can be very annoying because in some cases men assume this right from the beginning and are then shocked when they find out their female partner does not want kids. |
| 7 Tips on Caring for Ferrets … Posted: 26 Nov 2010 10:47 AM PST I've only had one ferret in my lifetime, but I would totally have more if I was able to. I adored that little gal and had a blast raising her. I took care of her mother and siblings for a friend who went on vacation and was offered the pick of the litter when my friend came back. Of course, I picked the runt of the bunch, like always. I learned quite a few things about ferrets before taking on the ferret-sitting job. Here are just 7 tips on caring for ferrets that I thought I'd share with you. 7. Visit the vet regularly
Like all pets, ferrets need their yearly visit to the vet. Some people find a ferret's smell to be offensive enough to look into de-scenting. Supposedly spaying or neutering a ferret will cause this odor to be less potent, as will de-scenting. My ferret was both spayed and de-scented, but she was still just as smelly as before. A regular bath was the only way to lessen this odor. Even if you aren't getting your ferret altered in any way, taking him to the vet for a check-up is highly recommended. 6. Give your ferret hard food instead of soft
Most ferret food consists of hard pellets, which is necessary for keeping tartar from building up on their teeth. High quality kitten food can also be used, if your ferret turns his nose up at the ferret food. My ferret preferred kitten food over the smelly ferret pellets sold in pet stores. As long as there is at least 32 percent protein, 18 percent fat, and taurine included in the kitten food, then it has the necessary ingredients for keeping your ferret healthy. |

| 7 Technologies I Refuse to Use … Posted: 26 Nov 2010 10:22 AM PST I'm no techno-phobe, but I have to admit that there are some technologies that either weird me out (like web cams) or make me wonder why I need them (like e-calendars). It's not that I don't understand them, and it's not that my friends haven't tried, several times, to sell me on their various charms. In spite of their constant teasing and cajoling, here are 7 technologies I refuse to use… 1. E-calendars
I love my spiral-bound day planner by Paperchase, and I can't imagine using a calendar on my computer, or worse, on my phone, instead. I find it so much easier to just write down m plans, rather than opening an app or a program and typing everything in. Besides, you can't use stickers or pretty color pens unless you use a paper calendar or planner! 2. Mobile email
Do I really need to be THAT available? Do I need to be available by email while I'm at the dentist, the dry cleaners, the dog groomer? No. For those few peaceful minutes, I can actually handle not responding to clients and friends within five minutes. Need to get in touch with me immedaitely? Call me. Text me. 3. Web cam
This just creeps me out for some reason. A web cam? So people can SEE while I'm chatting? No. Not this girl. It's not like I look gross, or that I'm doing anything embarrassing (like picking my nose) while I'm using the computer… it's more that I need the slight screen… or I'd be using the phone, right? It just strikes me as slightly pervy… |
| 7 Annoying Things People do on Facebook … Posted: 26 Nov 2010 10:04 AM PST Social networking sites can be really useful because you can keep in contact with someone living over the other side of the world, without racking up an extreme phone bill. However, sometimes people go over the top with there use of these sites so here are 7 annoying things people do on Facebook … 7. Writing messages on the public wall that are personal
Many people tend to write really personal messages on their and their friends public walls. There seems to be no boundaries into people's lives. Sometimes the personal messages are not taken that seriously because other people assume that they are not genuine and just seeking attention. 6. Posting picture immediately after a night out
For some reason lots of people feel the need to post pictures, on the website, of their night out immediately afterwards. In my opinion it is as though they have to show everyone that they have a social life and that they went out, also that they had a good time. 5. Complete lack of spelling and grammar
I think that pretty much all of us Facebook users have seen numerous messages on Facebook where there is no grammar and the spelling is hideous. In general the messages are shortened and single letters and numbers are used for words. Some of these messages are extremely difficult to decipher. |

| Posted: 26 Nov 2010 09:33 AM PST First dates can be awkward enough as it is. Going to some place awful or doing something made makes the whole ordeal even worse. You might have a bad idea for a date without even knowing how horrible it is — and yeah, some first dates can get downright horrible. Let's take a look at a few of them. 1. Sports
A lot of places tell you that doing some type of sport you both like is a great idea. Wrong. A lot of people — okay, especially the guys — tend to get pretty competitive about sports, even something as innocuous as bowling. Can you imagine beating a guy you like at tennis and never hearing from him again? Or he might feel compelled to let you win, and you might decide you'd rather wash your hair than have a second date. 2. The Dinner/Movie ScenarioThis is a classic bad idea for a first date. Dinner's not so bad, but basically you just start getting to know each other, and then you have to go spend two hours in silence. It can really put a dampener on any rapport you might have been building up with each other. Try dinner and something else, something that lets you talk. 3. One Sided DatesDoing something you don't know how to do with someone who's an expert isn't really fun for anyone. This goes for guys and girls. Don't, for example, take your date roller skating to show off how you can skate backwards if he or she can't even stay upright. |
| Posted: 26 Nov 2010 09:05 AM PST Being a cat person, I have quite a few t-shirts with a feline theme. One of my favourites is a cat reclining, with the slogan 'I don't do mornings'. How true! Anyway, you can never have enough t-shirts, so I've picked out some great cat tees for my fellow moggy fans to look at. 1. Dangers of Catnip
 2. Clever Kitty

In fact, here are 10 that I love… 1. Chiffon Rosette Tunic

Do things like table setting, and even some food prep days in advance. Cover your set table with a sheet to keep dust away, and all you have to do is take it off the day of the meal! 2. Do Some Weeding
Ask around the family what traditions are really loved and which ones they can live without. Choose to focus on the important ones and weed out some that are not as needed. 3. Designate a Drink Stand
Keep all your drinks for the meal at a beverage station away from the traffic area in the kitchen. This will not only keep guest out from under your feet, but also make it more convenient on everyone. |
| 16 Things Your Children Should Learn From You … Posted: 26 Nov 2010 01:14 AM PST You send your kids to school so they can learn. Then you wonder why they fumble or fail in real life. Aside from the generally outdated curriculum and teaching methods, many educational systems around the world put more focus on academic lessons than on important life skills. There is so much more to life than school subjects and I'm pretty sure that you know this. Don't wait until your children are having a hard time in life. Start teaching them some of these essential life skills while you still can. (By the way, this is largely based on Leo Babauta's article). 1. Saving
Set a good example for your kids by living below your means. Put money into your savings and other funds. Show your kids that they don't need a lot to have a good life. Teach them to put some of the money they receive or earn in a savings account or in a piggy bank. If your kids ask for something, then teach them about savings goal. 2. Frugality
Show your kids that you value functionality and quality over brand and price. Teach them to avoid impulse buying and to look around for good deals. Teach them to make things last and to avoid waste. Teach them to identify their needs from their wants. 3. Charity
Teach them social responsibility by donating time, money, and things to an organization or a cause your family supports. Take your kids to volunteer and see the reality of the world. Make this a regular habit for the family. |
| 8 Tips for a Successful Employee-Boss Relationship … Posted: 25 Nov 2010 10:35 PM PST In order to run a successful business and to have a good career both employee and boss need to establish a strong relationship. Here are 8 tips for a successful employee-boss relationship. 8. An employee needs to show that they can be relied
It is important that an employee shows their boss that they are reliable, that work will be completed on time and that they will show up to work. This allows the boss to realise that they have good employees and they are likely to rely on you a lot more for bigger projects. 7. A boss should encourage and not demand or tell
In my opinion a good boss should always encourage their employees to reach their full potential; they should not tell or demand. By using encouraging language they are likely to create a good relationship with their employees and those employees will want to help out their boss. 6. Consider each others needs
In order for a successful employee-boss relationship you both need to put the effort in. This may be easier if you have worked together for a long period of time because you are likely to understand each others behaviour by now. New working relationships can be difficult because you are still learning each others working needs, so it is important to speak to each other right from the beginning. |
| 7 Dishes to try this Thanksgiving … Posted: 25 Nov 2010 12:13 PM PST Thanksgiving dinner doesn't always have to be the same old dishes; turkey, stuffing, pumpkin pie, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce. There are many new great recipes being created each year. I've listed 7 dishes to try this Thanksgiving and I hope you'll give at least one a whirl this holiday season. Who knows, maybe one of the following recipes will end up making it to your family's table each year! 7. Mashed Potatoes with Kale and Olive Oil
This is a great twist on an old favorite. I love mashed potatoes and can't imagine having Thanksgiving dinner without them. Take a couple of tablespoons of olive oil and sauté a large bunch of chopped kale leaves, 4 cloves of minced garlic, and 5 chopped scallions. Cook until tender and add salt and pepper to taste. After you've mashed up about 3 pounds of potatoes, put this sautéed mixture on top and give a quick stir, then sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top. 6. Brussels Sprouts and Apples
The Brussels sprouts can be shredded or cut into quarters for this recipe. Sauté the sprouts for a few minutes in some olive oil in one skillet. In another skillet, brown some extra firm tofu that has been cut into small cubes and add about 2 cloves of minced garlic. This takes about 4 minutes. Add a tablespoon of maple syrup to the garlic and tofu, plus 1 large apple cut into thin wedges. Cook this for another minute or so. Combine the apple mixture and the sprout mixture in one skillet, sprinkle with pine nuts and salt and pepper to taste. 5. Stuffing with Quinoa
Toast 6 slices of bread and cut into cubes before getting started with the rest of the recipe. Simmer a cup of quinoa in 2 and a fourth cup of vegetable broth for about 15 minutes. Sauté 1 diced yellow onion, a stick of chopped celery, 1 cloves of minced garlic, and a half cup of chopped seitan in some butter or margarine. Cook until everything is soft, then stir in a half cup of sliced mushrooms. Add a teaspoon of thyme, and a half teaspoon of sage and salt, as well as a quarter teaspoon of black pepper. Put the skillet on low heat and add the toasted bread. Add enough vegetable broth to make the bread moist, then toss in the quinoa and mix everything well. Bake the stuffing in a dish for about a half an hour at 375 degrees. |
