| 7 Things You May Not Know About Starbucks … Posted: 28 Nov 2010 11:29 AM PST I don't know about you, but Starbucks is one of my favorite places – depending on the person serving the coffee, but for that, I will keep my comments to myself. If you are looking for some energy and do not feel like making coffee at home, then this is a great place to drive in and get your coffee. The Starbucks in my area offer free Internet service. Anyhow, I have decided to give you 7 things you may not know about Starbucks … 7. A Lot of Stores
Currently, Starbucks has eleven thousand stores. They plan to have thirty thousand stores in the future. Out of these eleven thousand stores, they serve around forty million customers every week. It has been said that they open two or three new stores daily. 6. They Offer Health Insurance
If you are going to be working at Starbucks, even if it is part time, then you are going to be happy to hear that they offer health insurance. So, that means they actually offer benefits to their employees, which is great. 5. Solo Diners
In Starbucks, the tables have been designed with solo diners in mind. The tables are circular so that individual does not feel any empty seats. This way, they do not feel like they are alone. The round table, in environmental psychology is much more comfortable to sit at. |
| 10 Common Preventable Workout Injuries … Posted: 28 Nov 2010 11:18 AM PST Physical exercise can put stress on the different parts of the body. Injuries can result when precautions are not taken. A lot of workout injuries can actually be prevented. Here is a list of 10 common workout injuries that you can prevent with proper information and safety measures. 1. Chafing
Chafing occurs when your skin experiences friction from rubbing against clothing or another body part. It can be painful and irritating but won't necessarily hinder you from working out. You can prevent chafing by wearing clothes with soft material and seams. You can also use petroleum jelly or talcum powder before your workout to lubricate areas prone to chafing. If you need to lubricate areas near clothing, you can use products that are formulated to be washable and non-staining. 2. Muscle soreness
Muscle soreness is a normal workout injury. It can happen when you do repetitions during a workout or a few days after exercise. Soreness of the muscles can be prevented through proper stretching before and after a workout. Of course, warm up those muscles before stretching. Also, do not overuse your muscles. Give your sore muscles time to recover before using them again. 3. Muscle cramps
You will experience muscle cramps when you lose salt and fluids in your body. This can happen if you sweat excessively and fail to replenish water and sodium. However, if you are new to an exercise, you can also experience cramps if your muscles get tired. You can treat muscle cramps by drinking a sports drink with sodium. If the cramps are caused by fatigue, you can gently stretch and massage the muscle until it relaxes. |
| Posted: 28 Nov 2010 10:52 AM PST Both men and women shave on a regular and it is important to do so without causing any irritation or as little as possible. Here are 7 tips on shaving. 7. Use a moisturiser afterwards
At the end of every shave you should always use some form of moisturiser. This helps to soothe the skin after shaving and helps to reduce any irritation. There are various kinds of moisturisers, some for sensitive skin, other for dry skin, oily skin and the list continues. 6. Shave in the direction that the hairs grow
Never try to shave away from the grain; you could end up causing more damage than good. When shaving you want to do so in the direction that the hairs grow, this will prevent you from cutting yourself and will create a smoother shave. 5. Try different razors
The chances are that you will not find the perfect razor straight away. Some people get on with disposable razors others do not, there is a wide range on the market so you may need to try several before finding the best one for you. All razors vary slightly; the size of the handle may change or the size of the blade or the number of blades therefore it is a matter of trial and error. |

| Jen’s Laser Tattoo Removal, Treatment 3 … Posted: 28 Nov 2010 10:10 AM PST For the past few months, I've been undergoing laser tattoo removal treatments (one every 6 weeks), and this week, I had treatment #3. Here's how it's gone so far: But I was also a little scared, and I didn't realize it until I was on my way to the clinic. I'm not a girl who normally sweats very much. I rarely wear deodorant or antiperspirant because I just don't sweat that much, but this week, driving to my third treatment, I was sweating buckets. Why? Because I'm afraid of the pain, and my second treatment really did hurt. I was scared, so I was sweating. They say the treatments are about as painful, and have a similar sensation, to someone snapping a rubber band on your skin, and that's about right… but it does hurt. And I'm a sissy. I got to the office, nervous and damp, and the tech, Terry, immediately calmed me down. She used The Chiller on my arm to numb it, fired up the laser, and zapped away. Again, the process didn't take very long at all, just a few minutes, and this treatment didn't hurt as much as the second treatment. But it is a lot more sore and tender now, a few days later. Here's how it looks today: Overall, I'm delighted with the results, and I can't wait for my next treatment, in another six weeks. By summer, I'll be rocking the tank tops again. |
| 7 Things I Miss about College … Posted: 28 Nov 2010 09:35 AM PST I was up all night recently. I didn't go to bed until about 7 o'clock in the morning. It nearly killed me. But I used to do that all the time! It was just seven years ago! What happened to me? And so of course I got nostalgic and had to eat chocolate, but I also thought about the things I miss about my college years. I'm kind of surprised by how many there are! 1. Sleep
In retrospect it seems like I got the most sleep ever and no sleep at all during those four years of my life. Because I would get by on something like four hours of sleep a night during the week, and then sleep until the afternoon on Saturday and Sunday. And I had naps back then! I miss naps. Ugh. 2. EnergyWhat happened? I had so much energy back then. I could go for days as long as I had Starbucks and Pop Tarts. I had all the time in the world because I got everything done as fast as I could. With the exception of my sophomore slump semester, I actually still got my homework done early just so I had more time to do anything else. 3. All NightersRight. Staying up until the next morning didn't phase me, are you kidding? I'd just hop in the shower, get dressed, and go to class — and take a nap when I got home. Trying to do anything like now results in horrible, terrible things, and I need to remember to avoid it at all costs. |

| Posted: 28 Nov 2010 04:33 AM PST I still have a lot of Barbie dolls. I’m talking the every day ones I played with all the time, as well as … collectible Barbies. I don’t know, it’s weird. I know Barbie is kind of awful, but all of mine played a huge part in making me a story teller as well as a writer. My Barbie soaps, you know. And I do still like some collectibles, especially pop culture ones. Here are a few of my favorites never-been-out-of-the-box favorites! 1. Happy Holidays Barbie
I have every one of these Barbies except the representations for the first two years they were created: 1988 and 1989, of course, because they’re the most expensive to buy now. Every so often I think about selling them, but … I’m not ready yet. They might be heirlooms for my future children. If I don’t keep them for myself. 2. Wedding Day Midge
 3. Gone with the Wind Barbie
Barbie as Scarlett O’Hara is awesome. She is just gorgeous. I love Gone with the Wind, book and movie, and I adore both Vivien Leigh and Barbie, so this was a match made in heaven. I like seeing how the design, mold, and all of Barbie dolls change, both over the years and with different representations. This one is a highlight to me. |
| 10 Interesting Facts about Chocolate … Posted: 28 Nov 2010 03:34 AM PST Chocolate has been, is and will be the most popular sweet in the world. It calms us down like a pill, makes us feel deliriously happy, it tastes so heavenly… and yet, it's not illegal or expensive! However, there is more to it than that so grab your favorite chocolate bar and keep reading because I'm about to tell you some interesting things about it. 1. It's a well-known aphrodisiac
Aztec Indians were no fools, believe me! They had been aware of this chocolate's property before any scientific tests have been done to confirm it. Thanks to the chemical named theobromine, chocolate can really put you and your significant other in that sexy mood. So, next time you're ready for some "action" light up the candles and serve chocolate covered strawberries! 2. It helps to battle and prevent heart disease
Chocolate has chemicals called flavonoids which prevent blood from clotting so a person suffering from heart problems could definitely benefit from a bite or two of this delicious treat. Feel free to incorporate dark chocolate into your eating regiment even if you don't have any heart problems because it can help prevent them as well as many other cardiovascular diseases. 3. Chocolate acts as an antidepressant
Chocolate is, indeed, a universal relief for all those situations charged with negative emotions. Relationship problems, family drama or painful periods – chocolate helps us feel much better, right? This is not silly or a mass trend, chocolate really acts like an antidepressant. It takes just one bite of your favorite Hershey bar or Milka for your brain to start producing happy hormones. |
| Posted: 28 Nov 2010 03:20 AM PST Here in the States, November is a big month, because that's when many of our biggest political elections make place. We're able to vote when we reach the age of majority (18), but believe it or not, very few people actually cast votes. It really is a privilege, one that people in many other countries don't have, so why not exercise your freedom of choice and vote? Here are 7 reasons to vote… 1. You can complain
If you don't vote in an election, you are not allowed to complain about the outcome. I love to complain about politicians, but I can't complain about one if I didn't vote for or against him. And if there's an issue I care passionately about, I can't get on my soapbox about it if I didn't vote for or against it, either. 2. It's fun
Voting is very exciting! My daughter's birthday was a mere two weeks before the last presidential election, and we went to vote together. There was so much excitement in the air, and our candidate won… 3. Because you can
Think of all of the people who have struggled, and even died, so we could have the right to choose our candidates and our officials, so we could have the freedom to choose all of them and more. What better way to honor those courageous men and women than by voting? |
| 9 Useful Tips for the College Student … Posted: 27 Nov 2010 10:41 PM PST Being a student can be difficult enough with all of the subjects that you are taught and the information that you need to remember for exams and assignments. So here are 9 useful tips for the college student. 9. Have a good time, enjoy your studies
You should enjoy your studies, you are only a student for a short period of time and you should enjoy that time before you end up in full-time employment with large responsibilities. Studying is important but so is knowing when to take a break, take some time out occasionally to relax. 8. Write several essay drafts before the final piece
Many people, for whatever reason, do not write drafts which in my opinion is not the best way to write an essay. You should always rewrite your work several times to produce your best assignment, as you will often find that when you reread your own work there is some way that you can improve it. 7. Form study groups with friends
Study groups are a really good way to learn, especially with friends, as you can discuss different topics and listen to a different perspective. It is likely that if you do not fully understand a topic one of your friends can explain it to you and if they do not understand you can explain to them. |
