8 Beliefs of the Afterlife from Around the World …

In no way am I what they would call a "religious freak." However, I do like to research religion and look at them from different perspectives. I'm probably going to be criticized for this one, but I do not believe that one single religion is the right religion nor do I believe in telling someone they are going to go to Hell simply because they do not believe in whatever I believe. Personally, I have been at the butt end of those remarks before. We all are entitled to have our own beliefs. I like to look at things with an open mind. Right now, I want to give you 8 beliefs of the afterlife from around the world …

8. Christianity

Christianity

Ah, yes, Christianity. In this category, we have Protestants, Catholics, Baptists and other Christians. What do they believe? They believe that the way we conduct our lives on earth (how we act), will determine where we will go in the afterlife. You have Hell, which is for the wicked and then you have Heaven, which is for the good. The Catholic church claims that there is purgatory, which is in between Heaven and Hell. Some believe that you have a certain amount of time you spend in purgatory, then your spirit will be cast into Heaven. The Protestants, which are also in the Christian category do not accept purgatory.

7. Buddhism

Buddhism

Are any of you familiar with Buddhism? Buddhism believes in karma and reincarnation. What keeps us bound to the process of death and rebirth is desire. Desire is a sense of craving. The Buddhist term for liberation is Nirvana. Literally speaking, Nirvana means extinction. It is referring to the extinction of all cravings. An extinction that is going to allow one to become liberated. There is so much more that I can say about this religion, but I have to move on to number 6.

8 Items For the Perfect Travel Makeup Kit …

When I travel, I like to pack as compactly as possible, so that I don't have to drag a heavy suitcase, and can also save space for any purchases made while away. Unfortunately, most of my makeup is not very portable, being in large sets. So I need a small makeup kit. In a previous post, I wrote about some great sets, but now I'm going to suggest some items if you prefer to build your own kit.

1. Laura Mercier Eye Palette

Laura Mercier Eye Palette
Price: $28 at shop.nordstrom.com
This is a very compact compact! It's so slimline that it will take up no space at all in your makeup bag. There is a choice of warm and cool colours; I prefer the cool set, as I think the colours are more versatile for day and night makeup.

2. Mini Mascara

Mini Mascara
Price: $9.50 at sephora.com
Who's going to get through a full-sized mascara on a trip away? A mini version is just what you need! Alternatively, try tinting your lashes, but don't forget that skin test first …

3. Tinted Moisturiser

Tinted Moisturiser
Price: $8 at sephora.com
We mustn't forget a base! I like to use a tinted moisturiser when travelling, so that I get sun protection, moisturiser and cover in one product. That's smart use of space! I don't like a heavy base or powder anyway, so a tinted moisturiser works fine for me.

8 Great Holiday Videos for Kids …

The holidays are on their way, and with the arrival of this glorious season comes fun holiday music and great holiday movies and shows! Setting the religious vs. commercial debate aside, I am particularly fond of the movies and shows aimed at kids… they can be so much fun! Here are 8 great holiday videos for kids…

1. Olive, the Other Reindeer

Olive, the Other Reindeer
Price: $4.75 at amazon.com
Olive is a small dog who, while listening to a news report on the radio, begins to think she might just be a reindeer, and she journeys to the North Pole to help Santa pull his sleigh. She's helped by Martini, a recent escapee from the zoo, as well as a herd of other helpful friends. The bad guy (every story needs a bad guy) is an exhausted, cranky postman, bent on keeping Santa at home. The animation is clever, the story original and funny (it'll entertain parents and kids alike), and the cast is wonderful (Drew Barrymore, Joe Pantiliano, REM's Michael Stipe, and more). This is far and away my personal holiday favorite. I love it!

2. Phineas & Ferb: Very Perry Christmas

Phineas & Ferb: Very Perry Christmas
Price: $15.99 at amazon.com
What if the plan Phineas and Ferb concoct (to build Santa a rest-stop) backfires, and everyone on Danville is on the naughty list? Can the brothers and their friends convince Santa's elves that an entire town can't be naughty, and that Danville is nice? This Christmas DVD is funny, sweet, and I love the music. Hey, where's Perry?

3. Dora's Christmas (Dora the Explorer)

Dora's Christmas (Dora the Explorer)
Price: $ at amazon.com
Is there anything sweeter than a little girl who decides that Santa needs a gift, too? Dora and her friends set out for the North Pole to leave a present for Santa under his tree… for years, this was one of my daughter's very favorite Christmas DVDs… and she still loves it!

7 ways To Grow Closer To Someone You Love …

With the hectic, busy schedules we have today, it's no wonder that divorce rates are so high. It seems to be increasingly harder to find time to fit the people dearest to you into your life. Don't be one of the statistics! Here are 7 ways to grow closer to someone you love, be it husband, parent, child or friend.

1. Pick Up The Phone

Sometimes all it takes is a five-minute phone call to let someone know you're thinking about him or her and hope they are having a good day. Especially if you know they are having a stressful week or have a lot on their mind, let them know you are there and you love them. Make it a weekly habit to do this and watch your relationship grow!

2. Get Physical

Don't forget that the world's most powerful language is touch. Touch can do amazing things. It can calm you, comfort you and assure you. Hug and kiss often, as well as cuddling when the opportunity arises. As you're driving down the road, stroke your partner's arm. Come up behind your child while they are doing homework and rest your hands on their shoulders and kiss the top of their head. Reach out and touch a friend's arm as you communicate with her. Get touchy!

3. Share Things

Be as unselfish as you can be. Share feelings; discuss opinions and views on certain subjects with whomever you desire to grow closer to. Share items of clothing such as hoodies or t-shirts. Share your drink or bag of chips. Share your car or your shoes. Whatever you have to share, be willing to share it!

9 Ways To Boost Your Holiday Spirit …

It happens to us all – that slight dampening of our holiday cheer. We are under lots of pressure to get “the perfect” gifts for everyone, remembering the hundred places we have to make appearances over the holiday season, all the in-law’s houses we must visit. And yet, we fail to remember that it isn’t about any of that. Christmas is about remembering the birth of Jesus, and spending quality time with the ones we love. So, here are a few things to help boost your holiday spirit this year!

1. Breathe!

Take time to just sit down and relax in the candlelight and look at your Christmas tree sparkling in the darkness! You will find yourself amazed at how much more it makes you want to look forward to the screams of your kids as they open up their presents on Christmas morning!

2. Take Time To Have Fun

Whether it is going ice-skating with family, a night out with friends, attending a friend’s Christmas party – whatever it is, do it. Have fun and forget the stress of your shopping list and to-do list for one day!

3. Music

Good music is one of the best-known ways to boost one’s spirit so play it often. Crank up the tunes in your car as you drive about running errands, and dance to it at home!

8 Ways to Cope with Irritating Neighbors …

Sometimes in life, we all get "blessed" with an ignorant, rude couple and their bad behaving kids. They live right next door or maybe one floor up or down, they are our "dear" neighbors… and they drive us nuts! Now, you can keep the rage bottled up inside of you and let them terrorize you or step up to the challenge and try to work things out. Here are 8 situations and 8 ways to deal with them in a polite, civilized and legally correct manner.

1. They let their dog do his "thing" on your front lawn

They let their dog do his

Every neighborhood has a certain standard that occupants are obliged to maintain, right? So it wouldn't be fair for you to bust your behind trying to get the front lawn looking neat only to have their dog ruin it next morning! Well, the first thing you need to do is talk to your neighbors and let them now how much that bothers you. If they continue to let their dog run free, call animal control and let them deal with it – if they care for their pet they will start paying more attention. However, if you don't want to tamper with the poor animal's well-being and put the dog in the position to lose the only family he knows, put up electric fences. These things are practically invisible and made for these purposes. The electric shock won't hurt the poor guy; it will just teach him that your garden is off limits.

2. They are making too much noise

Ok, let's be real – if you're moping over your neighbor's loud birthday party, you are the petty, irritating Grinch! Birthdays and anniversaries happen once in every few months and everybody is allowed to celebrate their own way. However, if your neighbors have a habit of throwing wild parties or playing loud music almost every day of the week, you should definitely do something. Keep a record of the times in which you were disturbed and compare it with the copy of your lease. Maybe you are the one that hasn't read the "fine print", maybe loud music is allowed in those times. If it is, you can't do much but be honest with your neighbor and try to find a compromise . If your neighbor is not willing to settle, call the police.

8 Tips for Reorganizing Your Closet …

I have closet issues. Between the Better Half and I, there are too many clothes, too many shoes, not enough closets, and not enough closet space. Since I do everything bass-ackwards in my household, I'm planning a big fall cleaning and started searching ways to reorganize my closets with a vengeance. I found a lot of tips, some more helpful than others, and here are the ones I consider the best of the best!

1. Cleaning Out Your Closet

The first thing you need to do is empty out your closet — so naturally it's best to go with one closet at a time. Pulling everything out of it is going to be the key to following any or all of the rest of the tips. You have to know what you're working with and what you have before you get started in earnest.

2. The One-Year Rule

The One-Year Rule

This is hard for me, because I'm still hanging onto clothes and shoes I wore in high school. Yeah, I know, I'm ashamed of myself, too. Anyway, this rule means that anything you have used, worn, or looked at in a year or more needs to be thrown away. If you didn't even know something was in your closet, you don't need it any longer.

3. Try It On and Toss It

This tip is hard for me to follow as well, but it's a good idea and it really ought to be done. All those clothes that are too big or too small for you can be thrown away or donated as well. Heck, make something new out of the clothes that don't fit anymore, if you're good with a needle and thread. Don't let them clutter up your closet, though.

7 Great Reusable Water Bottles …

Millions and millions of plastic water bottles end up in our landfills each year, where it takes (literally) forever for them to degrade. Until our politicians add a deposit on them, we'll keep throwing them away instead of recycling them… so break the cycle and buy a re-usable water bottle instead! They're chic, safe, and so much better for the environment! Here are 7 great re-usable water bottles.

1. First Glass Water Bottle

First Glass Water Bottle
Price: $24.99 at modcloth.com
This water bottle is made of glass, so it's a much for formidable choice than most, which are made of steel or plastic. I love the opaque green effect, and of course, the screw top with a small carry handle. And I love how sweet water tastes, and how cold it stays, in glass bottles…

2. Thirst for Design Water Bottle

Thirst for Design Water Bottle
Price: $18.99 at modcloth.com
This steel water bottle, with a fab deco-inspired design by Jonathan Adler, features yellow, black, and grey diamonds and a handy screw top, so you can sip all day in style.

3. Flip Out Water Bottle

Flip Out Water Bottle
Price: $14.99 at modcloth.com
This steel water bottle features the most convenient spill and leak-proof cap I've ever seen — it simple flips up for easy sipping! Choose from brushed steel with blue dew drops or with green leaves. Perfect!

7 Ways to Ruin Your Resume …

It is so important to make your experience and resume stand out from the crowd in order for the employer to hire you. Here are 7 ways to ruin your resume, to show you what not to do.

7. Forgetting to send a cover letter

Forgetting to send a cover letter

A cover letter is extremely important when it comes to applying for a new job. It briefly summarises a lot of what is already in your resume, such as why you are applying for the job and what you think that you could offer.

6. Including a personal statement about you and your life

Including a personal statement about you and your life
A company does want to know about their employees’ personal lives. This is why there is normally a hobbies or interests section at the end. However, they do not want to read a personal statement right at the beginning of your resume that rants on all about you, what you hope to achieve out of life and so on. Yes your goals are important but a potential employer wants you to think about the company and how you would have a positive effect on the company.

5. Not proofreading your resume before sending it to a potential employer

Not proofreading your resume before sending it to a potential employer

The last thing that the potential employer wants to see is that you have not even taken the time to read through your own resume before sending it. This shows laziness to the company and in my opinion they are likely to assume that you do not care that much about whether you get the job.

7 Things to Love about Bones…

I am huge fan of police procedural TV shows. Right now, I follow CSI: New York and Bones religiously. I might do a post on CSI: New York (how cool is Mack, really?) but I want to rave about Bones first. Here are 6 things I love about the show:

1. Interesting and Smart Characters

The main characters are Dr. Temperance “Bones” Brennan, a socially-inept genius in the field of forensic anthropology and Seeley Booth, a nice but tough FBI agent. Their professional (and social) circle is also composed of geniuses in their own fields. You have the wealthy and conspiracy theory nut Dr. Jack Hodgins, the adorable artist Angela Montenegro, and their head, Dr. Camille Saroyan. You also have your round of interesting assistants helping Bones and Booth solve crimes. Let’s not forget the psychology boy genius Dr. Lance Sweets.

2. Funny

The first few laughs I had from this show was from the “I don’t understand” responses Bones had to any pop culture-related thing other characters would say. She really is that out of touch from “real” life. There are also situations and cases that put them in humorous situations. Sample conversation between Bones and Booth:

Booth: Everybody thinks they're the next Kelly Clarkson.

Brennan: Who's Kelly Clarkson?

Booth: … American Idol… "Because of You"…

Brennan: Because of me?

No other female TV character today could possibly be more adorable, really.

3. Romantic

While the current season has killed my dream to see Bones and Booth together, I still think they will end up together. The previous season when Booth would do just about anything to keep Bones safe was brilliant. I loved the way he looked at Bones, too. *sigh* They should seriously be together! For those of you who need your Booth+Brennan fix now that Booth has a girlfriend, THIS site is for you.

7 Cars I Wish I Could Afford and Why …

A lot of the time, cars are stereotypically a guy’s domain, but I know that’s not true and I bet a lot of you do as well. I get excited over lots of cars, and there are a lot I just wish I could drive at least once. Not all of them are so-called luxury cars, but many are, and here’s my top 7 list of the vehicles that make me drool!

1. Jaguar

Jaguar

This is and will always be at the time of my list. Specifically I would love to have a 1950s Jaguar XK-140 – yep, just like the one driven by the luscious Ryan Phillipe in Cruel Intentions! I love that car. I love a lot of older Jaguars, so I probably wouldn’t be picky about the year or the model if I was able to get my hands on one – yet I would probably thumb my nose up at a newer model, because they just aren’t my cup of tea.

2. Mitsubishi Eclipse

I don’t know what it is about these cars, but I love them to dead. The 2001 year is my favorite but I like the newer ones as well. The Spyder speaks to me a lot as well, but I’d be happy with a straight Eclipse. This is one of the few current cars that makes me obsessive, although there are a few others that rank up there with it.

3. Chevy Malibu

Again, I don’t like the new Malibu models. My brother-in-law to-be has a newer model and with apologies to Dave, it is one of the blandest things I have ever seen. I don’t think it’s hideous or something, just … ordinary. Give me an old 1960s or 1970s model and I would be a happy, happy girl. I think the 1965 was particularly stellar – in candy apple red, baby!

7 Things That are Not So Hot …

Have you ever seen something that made you wonder how it happened or even came to be? I've seen hairstyles and outfits that made me cringe and heard people bragging about doing things that really aren't something to brag about. There are also plenty of things I've seen and heard that I wish I could completely block out. Here is my list of 7 things that are not so hot, in my opinion.

7. Cheating

Cheating

I can't believe the number of people I've heard boast about cheating on their loved one. It's almost like a game to them. There is even a television show where cheaters get ousted by the other person in the relationship. I have a hard time understanding how shows like this continue to air. I guess it's sort of like a train wreck though; you can't help but to look. I did hear that the host of one of these shows got stabbed by a disgruntled person who was video taped cheating on his girlfriend. I wonder if the hosts of similar shows have decided to hire people to protect them after this incident.

6. Shirts that don't cover enough

Shirts that don't cover enough

Men and women who try to squeeze themselves into a shirt that looks like it was made for a toddler make me feel embarrassed for them. First of all, it can't be comfortable. Can it? Secondly, does that person actually think it's an attractive piece of clothing? In some cases, the fashion statement might simply be a quick decision before taking a trip down the road to the store for something. In other instances, I think it's just a bad choice in attire.

5. Skirts that look more like a tube top out of place

Skirts that look more like a tube top out of place

I've seen plenty of short skirts that are tasteful and others that should never be worn in public. The ones I'm referring to are the skirts that expose cheeks without the person even bending over to retrieve something. A super short skirt might be acceptable as a Halloween costume. They are usually considered to be acceptable when worn by a toddler who is also sporting a cute pair of ruffled underpants. I'm sure some people have no qualms with super short skirts, but I just think they are a bit on the overrated side.

7 Signs You’re Going Overboard with Dieting and Weight Loss …

If you want to be healthy, you need to eat right and perform regular exercise. However, some people prioritize weight loss over health. They take dieting and exercise to the extreme in an attempt to quickly lose pounds and inches. When this happens, these otherwise healthy practices become detrimental to one's health and quality of life. You don't want to fall into this trap of desperation and extremes. Watch out for the seven signs that indicate that you're going overboard with dieting and weight loss.

1. Setting strict food and calorie restrictions

Food is also supposed to give you pleasure and energy. If you restrict yourself from eating the food you love and enjoy just to lose weight, then you may be taking things a little too seriously. Setting an unrealistic daily calorie limit is another sign of that you are taking things to the extreme.

2. Making excuses to avoid eating

You could be developing an eating disorder if you start making excuses to avoid eating. You could also be going overboard if you don't join activities or events that include partaking in a meal.

3. Working out even when tired

If you are desperate enough, you might workout even when you haven't had any rest. Remember that your body needs sleep to rejuvenate and repair itself. Constantly working out despite being tired can lead to fatigue, headaches, irritability, increased resting heart rate, and even depression.

8 Tips on Being a Good Cheerleader …

Cheerleading is a great way to show you school, University or professional team support and to encourage them to perform to their best ability. Here are 8 tips on being a good cheerleader.

8. Speak using the cheerleader language

To non-cheerleaders there is a separate language that cheerleaders use. It is important that you learn to speak in this way, use the technical terms for different routines and moves and this way you will really immerse yourself into the cheerleading ways.

7. Smile no matter what

Even if the routines and moves that you have to make are really difficult and uncomfortable, smile at all times. If you find that you are really struggling to do this then try to imagine a really happy time in your life and this should help to keep the smile on your face.

6. Take onboard any criticism

As a cheerleader you are likely to receive both positive and negative criticism from people and it is important to take onboard both. The good criticism means that you are doing something right or at least something that people like. However, the negative criticism is important because it shows you where you can improve in order to become a better cheerleader.
