| 7 Tips For A Smooth Honeymoon … Posted: 05 Dec 2010 11:59 AM PST So, you've planned and prepared for your wedding for the past 6 months. It's come and gone and it was beautiful! Now you deserve a break, some time off with your lover, right! Of course! And you want that time to be as lovely as your wedding. Here are 7 tips to make sure your honeymoon is smooth sailing! 1. Pack Your Stuff In Advance
Don't wait till the night before your wedding to pack your honeymoon suitcase! Try and pack it as far in advance as you can so that you have plenty of time to make sure you haven't forgotten anything important. Plus, doing it ahead of time will be one less thing to worry about so close to your big day. You don't need the added stress! 2. Have All Your Important Papers Together
If you're flying and need your passport and birth certificate, be sure and keep them somewhere handy. Don't forget about other things like luggage tags, photo ID's, tourist maps and things like that. You don't want to be caught searching frantically for them in the middle of a crowded airport only to realize that you forgot them at home! 3. Discuss Plans Ahead Of Time
It's very important to discuss your plans and expectations of your honeymoon with your sweetheart before you actually get there. You may be expecting to spend all day chilling by the pool at the hotel and enjoying room service while your new hubby had planned to go out and explore the city! You don't want to have any huge disagreement or disappointing letdowns on your honeymoon so discuss plans and come to compromises. |

| 7 Reasons I Hate to Love Military Boys … Posted: 05 Dec 2010 11:11 AM PST I worked with the military under a contract, but that was after I was married, so I did not have guys in my mind. I even got married on a military base out by a beautiful lake. It was a restricted area, so everyone had to be on the guest list to get in, otherwise, they could not go to my wedding. So, it was a small wedding, which is exactly how I wanted it. Despite it all, when my husband spoke about joining the military, my heart stood still. I've always had respect for those in service, but I hate to love military boys. Why is that? Below, I am going to give you 7 reasons I hate to love military boys … 7. They Will be Away A Lot
I'm not sure if I could handle the one I love being gone a lot. I mean, I have had long distance relationships before that expanded to other countries, but it would be different if it were a husband. Them being gone a lot would be a reason I would hate to love military boys. 6. Early Bedtime
So that the boy, or shall I say man, can get up by the crack of dawn, he will have to go to bed early. There is no staying up to watch a movie or staying up late to chat on the phone. He will have a cut off time and you will need to abide by that cut off time. 5. The Children
When you have children, it is even harder. The children will not be able to see their father as much as the other children do. |

| Posted: 05 Dec 2010 09:26 AM PST The rumor is that girls are famous for keeping secrets, but the truth of the matter is that guys are quite good at it themselves. There are, in fact, many things that a guy will keep to himself even upon punishment of death. So, I talked to some of my guy friends, some family members, and some random dudes on the street, in addition to doing some research, and found out ten deep, dark secrets a lot of menfolk are keeping. 1. They Fear RejectionPhoto Credit: Funky64 (www.lucarossato.com) The stereotypical scenario features a girl waiting for the guy who’s promised he’ll call to actually do so – and every guy promises. She’s waiting because she’s worried she’ll be rejected. Guys worry about that too, they worry that you won’t think they’re good enough, smart enough, or good-looking enough – a lot of them just aren’t as open about it as girls are. 2. They’re Insecure
Men are secretly insecure about a lot of things, and unless they are in touch with that side of themselves, they’d probably rather cut out their tongues than tell you about them. They get insecure about their bodies, about being able to provide for their families, and about a lot of the stereotypes that are seen as a man’s duty. 3. Daddy’s Boy
Girls always marry their dads, right? Well, no, not always, but the belief is that a lot of girls do look for men who share certain qualities with their fathers. While men may or may not want to marry their mothers (I’ll get to that in a second), many of them do secretly want to be like their fathers. In ideal situations, a boy’s father is his hero and he wants to be just like his dad – even when he’s grown up himself. |
| 7 Ways to Boost Your Local Economy … Posted: 05 Dec 2010 08:42 AM PST Everyone wants their local economy to be vibrant and strong, but with the global recession, it's harder and harder to figure out how to do keep it going. It's also tempting to give in and buy everything from Wal-Mart, who promise low prices and seem to have a new store opening everywhere, all the time. But don't do it! The first step in helping your local economy is to shop at small, local businesses… and there are a lot more things you can do, too. Here are 7 ways to boost your local economy. 1. Shop local
This doesn't mean shopping at the Wal-Mart that just happens to be closest to you. This means shopping at local small businesses, like farmer's markets, mom and pop restaurants, and anything that's not a large chain. My favorite local business is Shine, a tiny boutique in Royal Oak, Michigan that sells jewelry, home goods, gifts, and candles. I'm sure if you look, you'll find a Shine-type shop near you! And every dollar you spend at your own Shine-type store stays local, strengthening your own local economy. 2. Bank local
Banking with a local credit union is another great way to keep your own economy strong, but even better, credit unions often have higher interest rates on CDs, lower interest rates for loans, and they often pay dividends to their members each year. Bonus! 3. Work local
If you work near where you live, not only will you save commute time and fuel money, you'll also help keep your economy going. That's because employers often pay taxes and other fees to local governments, and if you work in an area, you'll spend money there, too. Think about it: you'll eat lunch nearby, shop nearby, use day-care and cry cleaning and other service nearby… it all adds up to an improved economic outlook. |
| 7 Ways to Keep Cosmetics Hygienic … Posted: 05 Dec 2010 05:42 AM PST Do you ever wonder why cosmetics and makeup products now carry a 'best before' date? It does seem a bit silly, doesn't it – after all, you're going to use them on your skin, not eat them! Why is it so important to keep them in a hygienic condition? Well, cosmetics and makeup can easily get contaminated with bacteria, thus causing infections and passing on germs. So here are some simple ways to keep those products clean and safe … 1. Avoid TouchingPhoto Credit: Lidal-K. It's a good idea to start with washing your hands before using cosmetics. However, avoid touching the products if possible. If you need to take a small amount out of a jar, use a spatula, spoon or other utensil to take out as much as you need, and place it on your hand to use. Just think that if you place the product on your face, then dip your finger in again, you are transferring any germs on your skin into the jar. 2. Don't Share
Share makeup and share germs! This is especially important with eye makeup, as you don't want somebody else's eye infection. So never, ever share. If you want to try makeup in a store, ask for a fresh tester sample – if there aren't any, either buy without trying or don't buy at all. You don't know what could be on a sample that dozens of people have touched. 3. Location, location, location …
The best place to keep your makeup, cosmetics and brushes is in your bedroom. Avoid leaving them in the bathroom, as germs can easily be transmitted (just think for a moment about what happens in the bathroom …). A bedroom will probably have better light for putting on makeup anyway. |
| 10 Tasty Mixed Drinks for Fall … Posted: 05 Dec 2010 04:53 AM PST Just because Halloween is over and Christmas decorations have started appearing in the stores doesn’t mean you have to give up on fall just yet. In fact, while looking up recipes for a dinner party, I found a ton of tasty drinks meant to capture the essence of fall. I’m not a big drinker myself but sometimes a cocktail is lovely, and here are some delicious autumnal treats I can’t wait to try. 1. Autumn Punch
A yummy fall treat, this drink is incredibly simple to make, and full of fruity deliciousness. For instance, some of the ingredients it calls for include green or purple plums, not to mention cloves, vanilla, and CranApple juice. You can also make it non-alcoholic by simply leaving out the wine – which, if included, should be a sweet white wine, unless you go with the recommended Gewurztraminer. 2. Caramel Appletini
What’s more evocative of fall than caramel apples? This is a straight dessert cocktail, and of course it includes Baileys Caramel Irish Cream – an ounce of it, to be exact. Mix in with half an ounce of Green Apple Vodka, one slice of apple, and a teaspoon of caramel, and you’re good to go. 3. Cinnamon Toast
This is one of those drinks you’ll want on a cold, crisp evening. It mixes rum and apple cider. Specifically, the recipe calls for a shot of Captain Morgan, with plenty of apple cider, sugar, and cinnamon. It really does sound like it’ll taste like a dose of French Toast! |
| Posted: 05 Dec 2010 02:45 AM PST I bet grooving and shaking with your deceased friend or turning a family member into a huge diamond has never crossed your mind, right? Well, you are definitely not the only one. And how about hiring a bunch of strippers to heat things up at your uncle George's wake? Yup, our colorful planet is filled with different traditions and, if you want to know how strange they can really get, keep reading because I'm about to list 8 of them. 1. Three strippers and a funeral
Nope, it's not a new hit comedy, strip shows are actually quite normal for funerals in China. I'll risk sounding disrespectful by saying it's kind of like an MTV sweet 16 party – the more people you have, the more popular you are. Having a lot of people attending someone's funeral means the person was wealthy and is supposed to bring luck, so families of the deceased are prepared to really put themselves out there just to attract more people. And if that means hiring strippers, so be it! 2. Famadihana
I like family reunions and, if you do too, think about incorporating a sentence "Thank you for not having any family in Madagascar" in your next Thanksgiving speech. Why? Because their idea of a family reunion involves digging out dead relatives, giving their remains a nice, fresh polish, dancing with the corpses and bones and burrying them again after the party is over! 3. Hanging coffins
Nobody can fully explain why Bo people from South China preferred to have their deceased loved one's coffin hanged on a rock instead of buried but, hey, this is definitely something worth seeing. These coffins can be found in various locations in China, Philippines and even Indonesia so, in case the road ever leads you there, make sure you pay them a visit. |
| 7 Tips a Highschool Student Should Have … Posted: 05 Dec 2010 02:33 AM PST Being a highschool student can be difficult enough as it is. You have to think about workload, juggling friends with other commitments and maybe even a part time job. Here are 7 tips a highschool student should have. 7. Schedule time to have fun
Whilst in highschool, it is important that you complete homework, projects and study hard to pass exams. However, at the same time you need to have fun because you are only young once. So set aside time to do things that you enjoy to do. You can choose to go out with friends or take part in a hobby that you have. 6. You need to have a lot of self motivation
There is only so much that a teacher can do for you; they can provide you with the information that you need to learn to pass exams and guide you. However, they can not ensure that you do actually learn the material and seek out additional knowledge because this is something that you need to do for yourself. If you develop good self motivation during highschool this will help you in the workplace and at college, where there are less classes. 5. Keep a diary
Keeping a diary will help you see when your lectures and extra-curricular activities are. You can then pencil in some studying time and decide what you want to do with your spare time. Some people prefer wall charts to diaries, where you can mark exam dates and when assignments are due throughout the year. This will help you to stay on top of your work. |
| 7 Things To Do In The Month Of November … Posted: 05 Dec 2010 01:24 AM PST November is the start of what we call the “Holiday season”. From Thanksgiving to Christmas, you are going, going, going! But before you rush into December, here are 7 things you must do in the month of November! 1. Create Your Holiday Schedule
Gather your family together and choose the things you want to do this holiday season. Make sure to include activities such as ice skating on a Saturday, and game night around the fireplace. Know what you are going to do and when you are going to do it! 2. Create Some Table Talk
This year, as you are preparing your Thanksgiving meal, ask your family to write down what they are thankful for in their family and include something humorous, and then take turns reading them aloud around the table. 3. Start a Guest Book
Bring back a little tradition by starting a guest book. Have every guest that comes by your house sign and date your book, and even leave a small message if they wish. This will become a house diary and a recording to keep for years of all the comings and goings that took place in your home, just as people did with calling cards in the 1800′s. |
| 7 Reasons Some Do Not Go to College … Posted: 05 Dec 2010 12:49 AM PST College definitely isn't for everyone, no matter what people tell you. Some people are perfectly capable of making a wonderful life for themselves by going to a trade school or taking over the family business with a few management courses under their belt. Taking some night classes here and there might be all that some people need to get their life headed in the right direction. Here are 7 reasons some do not go to college. 7. Don't need to go to college
There is the attitude that you can get any job with a little bit of hard work and no college level courses. This might be true for some types of jobs, but it isn't as easy to find a job with only a high school degree as it used to be. My parents got jobs right out of high school and didn't have to attend college to get these high-paying occupations. Today, it's more common for someone to complete four years of college in order to be considered for many types of jobs. 6. Has no desire
Some people need desire to spark their decision to attend college, whether it's a desire to learn or one to party. I've had many friends that came to college just to be able to go to frat parties on a regular basis. This often lasted about one semester and then they got it all out of their system. More than half of these friends would settle down and study, while a small handful decided that it was too much work to take classes and party at the same time, so they dropped out of college. 5. Doesn't like school
This reason almost had my sister convinced that she wasn't going to college. She hadn't like school since Kindergarten. She was thrilled about it until, on the first day of school the teacher took all her school supplies and made her leave it in her desk. She came home crying her eyes out and that was the beginning of a rocky school career for her. Even though she fought hard to keep her head above water, she eventually went on to college and completed her degree in social services. Now she is helping others and enjoying every minute of it. |
| Posted: 04 Dec 2010 11:06 PM PST More and more people are falling for media's notion of ideal beauty. Men and women keep trying to conform to this ideal beauty through exercise and dieting. Many end up suffering from eating disorders and over-exercise just to be the perfect Ken and Barbie look-alikes. But the thing is, everyone is different. You should know better than to fall for the lies that media tries to feed you. You are, under no circumstances, obligated to conform to their standards. You should learn to love your body just as it is. If you are struggling to do this, then here are seven ways to love and honor your body. 1. Stop criticizing your body
Look in the mirror each day and learn to appreciate what you see. Say three things you love about your body and believe what you say. Be aware of negative self-talk and put a stop to criticizing your own body. 2. Think of your body as a tool
Instead of complaining about the way your body looks, try to focus on what your body can do for you. What has your body done to make your life better? Has your body enabled you to touch and improve the lives of others? 3. Stop comparing yourself to others
Each body is different. You have nothing good to gain by comparing yourself to others. Accept your body as it is. Learn to love your body shape and type. Work with it instead of against it. |
| 8 Reasons to Drink More Coffee … Posted: 04 Dec 2010 10:30 PM PST When I was little, my parents told me coffee would stunt my growth. Today, coffee is the center of most adult gatherings. There are a few tea drinkers in the family, but they will also share a cup of Joe with the rest of us when tea isn't available. Coffee with caffeine has been made out to be a beverage that should be consumed in moderation, but here are 8 reasons to drink more coffee. I can only drink so much coffee in a day, however, these reasons made me a lot less leery of taking just one more cup to go. 8. Coffee protects the liver
Gallbladder function is stimulated by the caffeine in coffee, thus reducing the risk of gallstones developing. Cirrhosis of the liver occurs less in people who are heavy drinkers of coffee. There is a certain enzyme that builds up in the liver that causes the liver to deteriorate. Caffeinated coffee is one key to keeping these enzyme numbers low. 7. Risk of Parkinson's Disease is much lower
This neurological disorder affects quite a few people in their elderly years. A loss of neurons is what causes Parkinson's, but coffee, tea, and other beverages with caffeine can reduce the amount of neurons lost. Some symptoms of this disease can begin appearing by the age of 50. The risk of having this disease increases with age and genetics also have a lot to do with it. 6. Avid coffee drinkers have fewer cases of certain types of cancer
Studies have shown that the chlorogenic acid and caffeine in coffee are helpful in lowering the risk of liver cancer in people who drink lots of coffee. A Japanese study showed that coffee was also effective in reducing the risk of endometrial cancer in women. Who would have ever thought coffee to be a cancer-reducing substance? |
| 8 Fun After School Activities … Posted: 04 Dec 2010 12:36 PM PST Often when you pick your child or children up from school it can be very difficult to think of activities to do with them. Here are 8 fun after school activities. 8. Puppet show
A puppet show really depends on the age of your child but many very young children enjoy puppet socks. The truth is that they could probably watch these shows for hours on end and you can make them enjoyable but educational at the same time. 7. Swimming lessons
There are not many children that do not like splashing around in water for hours at a time. If you child is one of them then why not arrange swimming lessons, this way they can have fun, meet other children and you are likely to meet other parents. 6. Make a trip to the park educational
Many children love spending lots of time outdoors and it is very good for their health. In my opinion taking your child down to the local park can be both fun and educational at the same time. As you are walking around the park you can point out various plants, trees and so on, and provide an educational fact about it. |
