9 Great Skin-Care Finds for Winter …

Winter's coming, and with the colder weather, and drier air, you can count on dry, itchy winter skin. But don't fret — there's hope for winter skin, without breaking the bank (or leaving immediately for Florida). Here are 9 great skin-care finds for winter, all within budget!

1. Philosophy When Hope is Not Enough

Philosophy When Hope is Not Enough
Price: $38.00 at philosophy.com
This is hands-down m all time favorite winter time skin care product. It's a firming serum, to be used after morning cleansing. Just a five or six drops of this magical serum, rubbed together in your palms then applied to your skin (either under or instead of moisturizer) will give you a smooth, gorgeous glow all winter long! It's worth every penny. My only complaint is that the little eye-dropper always breaks towards the end of the bottle, making it a little frustrating to get the last few precious drops out…

2. Philosophy Hope in a Jar

Philosophy Hope in a Jar
Price: $15.00 to $105.00 at philosophy.com
This moisturizer is perfect for using during the winter months, when the chilly, dry air takes its toll on our delicate skin. There are three different versions of this wonderful light-weight moisturizer: the original, one for extra-dry, sensitive skin, and one with an added SPF.

3. Philosophy Help Me

Philosophy Help Me
Price: $18.00 to $45.00 at philosophy.com
For years, we've known about the wrinkle-busting properties of Retinol, and this is the product that made me a believer. Apply a tiny pea-sized dollop after your night-time wash, just before bed, either alone or with a few drops of "When Hope is Not Enough" for smoother, more supple skin. I noticed fewer wrinkles, and smoother skin, after just two weeks!

7 Super-Cozy Fleeces …

One of my favorite things to wear during the winter is a warm, cozy fleece. They're perfect for layering over a top and under a coat, or for wearing on the way into the gym… or for lounging in! This ultra-plush hoodie is made of a soft cotton/polyester blend and features a kangaroo pocket in front, the Nike logo embroidered on the chest, and a hidden button placket. I love the soft blue-grey color and the drawstring hood… doesn't this just look so cozy and warm? I'd wear it over my workout tank on the way to the gym.

2. One Teaspoon Cavalry Fleece Antique Style Button Jacket

This fleece isn't just warm and snuggly, it's super-stylish and chic too! You could wear this with anything, from skinny jeans and tall boots to a floral-print skirt to baggy shorts. Why settle for a boring fleece zip-up when you could have this one instead? I love the side zipper and the wide, warm collar. There are side pockets, too, perfect for stashing your keys or iPod on the run, and the heather grey color is neutral enough to wear with just about anything, too.

5 Reasons to Start a Low-Carbohydrate Diet …

Have you ever heard of low-carbohydrate diets and wondered if they would be the way how to lose 20 pounds in 2 months? I have good news for you. This diet really helps you lose weight, and it has other benefits as well. Read on to know more about the reasons to start a low-carbohydrate diet!

1. You will feel more energetic

When you start controlling your blood sugar level, you will soon notice feeling more energetic throughout the day. That is because there are no sugar rushes right after eating and no more tiredness or irritation when your blood sugar goes below the optimal level. Your days will be more pleasant and you will get a lot more done without these ups and downs.

2. You will stay healthier

There is a growing number of people suffering from obesity and diseases like diabetes, metabolic disorder, cardiovascular diseases and cancer. High carbohydrate intake (or actually high insulin levels, which is a direct consequence of carbohydrate consumption) seems to be related to all these conditions. Following a low-carbohydrate diet plan might even save your life

3. You will lose fat

If you are dreaming of losing weight, what do you actually want to achieve? Unless you are an athlete, you most likely don’t really care about the numbers, but about how you look like. Low-carbohydrate diets are very effective when it comes to losing weight, or actually accumulated body fat. This is because when you get this diet plan going, your metabolism will actually change. The people who are taking in high amounts of carbohydrates, are using sugar for fuel because it is the easiest thing to do for the body. However, once there is less sugar to use, the body will turn to fat as an energy source. This diet will really help you get rid of that extra fat! It is possible that you won’t drop a pound, especially if you are already within your optimal weight window, but you will soon notice that your body is getting firmer and you can fit into a pair of old jeans! How about that? This diet really is how to lose weight fast naturally.

Well, there's no way to guarantee that you won't have any little unexpected mishaps or boo-boo's, so it's best to be prepared! 1. Advil

All the stress of rushing around, plus your nerves could bring on a terrible headache! The last thing you want to do is say your "I do's" with a pounding migraine, so be sure and pop a few Advil if you feel the slightest ache or pain of any kind coming on! And share with your bridesmaids should they feel a little pain coming on. You don't want them to be moody on your big day!

2. Tampons

Ugh! No one wants to think about getting their period on their big day. But as stressful as the past few months have been for you, it's better to be safe than sorry. If you did get yours and had nothing with you I would be awful worried about that crisp white dress! Don't forget how many other women will be there at the church. You may be a lifesaver to your poor future sis-in-law!

3. Tide Stick

These little things have come in quite handy many times before! If you spill something on your clothes, simply dab the tide stick on there and it usually comes right out! If it doesn't come completely out, it at least keeps the stain from setting so it can be easily removed later on. Your best bet is to apply all makeup, perfume and hairspray before you put on your dress.

8 Tips on Using Less Heat this Winter …

Jack Frost is once again blowing his cold breath over us, as winter is setting in. Saving money is on everyone’s mind in today’s economy, and yet electric bills will skyrocket with heating this winter. Here are some ways you can help to save a bit of that hard-earned cash from being “burnt up!”

1. Wear Warmer Clothes

Wear Warmer Clothes

Just because the heat is running doesn’t mean that you should run around in your summer shorts and tank top! Turn the heat down a bit and dress like it’s winter. Instead of the tank, wear long sleeves, and in place of shorts, wear sweatpants. Cover up them feet and snuggle under a blanket when watching TV. There, you saved a couple dollars because your heat isn’t running as much!

2. Insulate

Cover up the windows you’re not going to be using during the winter months with plastic or blankets. You can buy kits to do this, or improvise using your own stuff.

3. Use That Oven Heat!

After baking your family’s favorite meal, don’t close the oven door and waste, put that perfectly warm air to good use by cracking the door until it’s cooled. There, free heat!

7 Colorful Punch Recipes …

Ideal for all occasions and festivities from baby showers to weddings and themed parties, punch has been the most popular drink of many generations. I absolutely love it and I'm a real fanatic when it comes to collecting and trying out new punch recipes. Now, this stalker knows hosting a party requires a lot of work so the following list won't be long but contain only the great-tasting, easy to make, time and money saving ones instead. Have fun ladies- here's my list of 7 different, colorful punches for all seasons:

1. Frizzy pink punch

Surprise your little princess by preparing this special drink for her birthday! It requires only 2 ingredients and the preparation itself is a piece of cake. No special tips or tricks and no need for early planning, just mix two 2L bottles of Sprite or 7UP with ½ gallon of raspberry sherbet and you are done. I do have one tip for making this punch extra special, thought, and that's lacing the glasses with pink popping candies. Mmmm! Yummy and crazy!

2. Cool blue punch

If you ever decide to host a blue-themed baby shower, make sure you remember this one. The preparation is rather simple and you'll need the following: 2 packages of blue cool aid, 2 cans of Bacardi Pina Kolada, 1liter of club soda, sugar to taste and 2 cups of cold water. Mix everything except club soda and chill until it's time to serve. Then just add soda, mix again and the punch is ready.

3. Coke and lemon twist

Another alcohol-free, easy to make punch perfect for all Coke fans. All you need is coke and lemonade in equal amounts and some crushed ice. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think most people have Coke and lemons at all times. That's why this punch is so great – you can plan it ahead and get the stuff you need to make it or quickly scramble it when unexpected guests come knocking on your door. Your 2L Coke bottle is half-empty? No problem! It only takes two lemons and 6 table spoons of sugar to make a whole liter of lemonade which you will mix with the liter of Coke you have. Add some crushed ice, decorate and serve!

Top 9 Cosmetic Surgeries Defined …

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, there were 12.5 million cosmetic procedures done in the United States in 2009 for a total cost of $10 billion. 91% of these procedures were done on women, and almost half were done on women who were 40 to 54 years of age. That really says a lot about the time, money, and effort we're willing to spend to be gorgeous, doesn't it? Some procedures are done to repair damage from an accident, disease, or birth defect, but the overwhelming majority are done strictly for beauty. What are we women spending so much money on? In 2009, there were a lot of procedures that were very popular, and here's a list of them, and what they actually mean.

1. Breast augmentation

In 2006, breast augmentation became the most popular cosmetic procedure, and its popularity has been increasing since then. A small silicone envelope is filled with saline solution and an incision is made either around the nipple or in the navel to allow the sac to be placed under the skin.

2. Nose reshaping

Nose reshaping, or rhinoplasty, is declining in popularity, but is still among the top 5 most popular cosmetic surgeries. The nose, or a portion of the nose, is broken, then reshaped and set. When it heals, the nose is shaped and sized as desired.

3. Eyelid surgery

Like nose reshaping, eyelid surgeries are declining in popularity, but are still among the most requested cosmetic surgeries. This is very popular among older women, in conjunction with or instead of a face list.

8 Advantages of Electronic Communication …

Younger readers will probably roll on the floor laughing at this (sorry, ROFL), but I can remember the days before we had computers, email and cellphones. Then came the first cells, which were approximately the size of a brick. I'm not a massive fan of technology, but having seen these inventions become a part of our lives, I can see how many advantages they have. Here are some reasons why I like electronic communications.

1. Convenience

Do any of us leave the house without our cellphones? With it in our pocket, we can easily get in touch with anyone, or be contactable if necessary. Ever planned to meet up with friends but just can't find them? A quick call usually sorts that problem out.

2. Economical

Economical

It's very common these days for families to be living some distance apart, or even in other countries. Using internet phones such as Skype can save you a fortune if, like me, you have relatives living abroad.

3. Environment

While some people prefer to receive actual birthday cards, I'm happy to receive an email or e-card. The paper version will only be thrown away (or hopefully recycled), so isn't very environmentally friendly. For me, it's the thought that is important, and knowing that someone remembered my birthday.

7 Things I Learned by Cutting My Own Bangs …

7 Things I Learned by Cutting My Own Bangs …

First and foremost, this is dedicated to Sheila! Second of all, yep, I just cut my own bangs. I was bored, I was tired of the fact that none of the stylists who cut my hair will ever cut them short enough, and so I decided to take matters into my own hands – and scissors. Don’t worry, I totally Googled it first. Let me say that it can be done – but let me help you learn from some of my mistakes by sharing these tips with you!

1. No Dry Hair

No Dry Hair

It’s really true. If you’re not used to cutting your hair, then trying to cut it dry, even if it’s just a trim, is a bad idea. On the one hand, it is easier to tell what length you want, because you know exactly where the hair will fall when it’s dry. On the other hand, it’s almost impossible to evenly cut your hair when it’s dry, so you end up going way too short.

2. Not Too Wet

Not Too Wet

Conversely, do not make your hair sopping wet. Wet hair is slippery! Scissors do not like sopping wet hair either; they slip. They slip a lot. Damp hair is best, otherwise, again, you’re going to end up with an even cut, because both your fingers and the scissors will keep slipping. My personal experiences says that the experts who say dry hair is best are wrong when it comes to novices. Look for a happy medium instead, and just be careful about snipping too short.

3. Start Long

Start Long

Remember, you can’t go back once you’ve made that first snip. You have to start out longer than you wish, and only cut off a little bit of hair at a time. I’m talking like a few millimeters here. If you’re really confident, try a few centimeters at a time, but do not start out with inches under any circumstances!

7 Ways to Care for Color Treated Hair …

I confess it. I dye my hair. Or, rather, my hair is color treated, because that makes it sound better. I don’t even remember what my natural color is. I tend to go with darker brows, but sometimes I just have to go red, which is the hardest color to take care of and the fastest color to fade. If it’s your fancy, there’s nothing wrong with coloring your hair – but you do have to take care of it and here are some tips to help you do just that.

1. Deep Condition

Deep Condition

Especially if you tend to color your hair often, it is a good idea to deep condition your hair once every week. When you color your hair, it can affect the essential oils in your hair, and you need to do what you can to make up for that. A moisturizing conditioner treatment can do just that.

2. Use Proper Shampoos & Conditioners

It really is important to use everyday shampoo and conditioner specifically formulated for color treated hair. You might not think it will make a difference, but you can really see it when you use products geared toward your hair type. They have the right type of ingredients to keep your hair healthy.

3. Skip Some Days

Skip Some Days

I know it sounds grody, but you do not have to wash your hair every day – and possibly shouldn’t when you dye your hair a lot. Especially if you tend to go with shades of red, washing your hair every other day will help the color last longer. More practically, skipping a day here and there will give your hair a chance to create its own moisture. You won’t constantly be sending those essential oils down the drain.

8 Facts on Lady Gaga …

Raise your hand – how many here like Lady Gaga? Wow, that was a lot of hands raised. You all are her little monsters. I like many of her songs and I also like her unique taste for outfits. I also like wearing unique stuff, but surely, it's not as bizarre as her and her meat dress. Okay, right now, I would like to give you 8 facts on Lady Gaga. So, you little monsters, let's get going!

In all of Lady Gaga's music videos, you will see 2 Great Danes, except for Just Dance. Only one appeared in Bad Romance video because one died in October of 2009. Their names were Lava and Rumpus. Why does she have them? It's kind of like a trademark thing.

7. Dirty Gaga

She was a go-go dancer. I quote: "I still miss all my go-go dancing – maybe I’ll go back to it one day. I used to love dancing to Black Sabbath," she said. She loved the power stripping on stage gave her.

7 Most Exotic Animals …

I enjoy reading about different animals around the world, so here are the 7 most exotic animals I think I would like to have as a pet some time during my life. They are each very unique and intriguing as well. The hard part about many of these animals is finding a reputable source to purchase one from. A few are actually sold illegally by people who obtain them on the black market. Be sure you have a reliable source for purchasing any of the following animals.

7. Wallaroo

Smaller than a kangaroo, this little animal is a native to Australia. Most are a brownish color, like a kangaroo, but there are also black and gray ones too. They are very sweet and gentle animals that can easily be taken around children and elderly individuals. Wallaroos can be walked on a harness and need lots of room to jump around. Males tend to weigh twice as much as the females.

6. Golden Pheasant

Originally from China, the male bird of this species has an assortment of colors and patterns all over its body. The chest, sides, and underside of the neck are all a bright red. On top of the head and on the rump, the feathers are golden. Around the sides and back of the neck the feathers take on a zebra-like appearance, but in black and orange stripes instead of black and white. The tail feathers are mostly black with cinnamon colored spots and can be almost 3 feet in length. The female version of this bird is less showy and smaller. Her plumage consists of mostly brown and black feathers.

5. Caracal

This medium-sized cat roams across Africa and Western Asia. It has long ear tufts like a lynx and used to be known as an African lynx. These cats are very muscular and fast. They have long legs, short tails and are a golden color like a mountain lion. The males weigh around 40 pounds and females about 24 pounds. Kittens often have a very similar coloring to their parents, but they also have reddish spots on their bellies. In Africa, these cats are considered to be vermin by farmers. Many people elsewhere in the world enjoy them as house pets.

9 Tips on Caring for Macaws …

Birds have always intrigued me, especially parrots. The first time I went on vacation to a tropical climate, I got to see Macaws in their natural habitat. A flock of Scarlet Macaws flew overhead while I was listening to the waves on a secluded beach and it was the most fantastic sight I had ever seen. It wasn't what I was expecting to see as I sat relaxing in the sand. I have a friend who raises Scarlet Macaws and the Blue and Gold Macaws. If you are looking into brining one of these wonderful birds into your household, here are 9 tips for caring for Macaws you might want to take a look at.

9. Socialize your Macaw

Socialize your Macaw

These large birds are naturally social animals and will be better-rounded if exposed to many different people throughout their life. Young Macaws should be handled by friends and family members, in order for them to gain trust in other humans and not be scared of new people. Changing their surroundings doesn't hurt either. Macaws should experience many situations, such as visits to the vet, a new cage, or getting their nails and wings trimmed.

8. Place cage in a sunny location

Place cage in a sunny location

Being from a tropical climate, Macaws naturally enjoy sunshine. Make sure the cage is at eye level and in an area where it is sunny, but not drafty. The cage should also be set up in a way that your bird is able to get out of the sunlight if he wants to. It is possible for a bird to overheat, just like any other animal.

7. Regular bathing is necessary

Regular bathing is necessary

Bird baths keeps the skin from drying out and promotes good plumage. I have a couple of friends that take their Macaws into the shower with them. Both have a roost in the shower where the Macaw can set and preen itself in the mist from the shower. If you aren't comfortable with this method of bathing your bird, then using a hand held kitchen sprayer with luke warm water is another option.

Now this may sound like a really unusual tip but you would be surprised by how many people leave behind dresses at dry cleaners. Often dry cleaners keep left behind clothing for a couple of weeks and then they dispose of it, so why not take a trip to your local dry cleaners and ask them. The chances are that you probably will not have to pay much for the dress either.

7. Make sure that you are comfortable in what you wear

In my opinion there is nothing more unattractive than someone wearing a dress and they are constantly fidgeting because they are not comfortable with the amount of cleavage showing or the length. It is important that you chose a dress that you know you will feel comfortable in and this in turn will make you appear more confident and attractive.

6. Design your own dress

Often we all struggle to find a suitable dress for special occasions, so why not design your own. There are stores and websites that will take onboard your ideas and design a dress specifically to your tastes or if you are feeling creative you can design your dress completely from scratch. Make a note of all your design ideas and research the best material to use, this way you will make sure that you dress is perfect for you.

9 Things You Should Not Do During A Depressive Episode …

Depression is a serious illness that has been around for the longest time. During depressive episodes, you feel tired, weak, unmotivated, and just hopeless. Even if deep inside you want to feel better, the depression weighs you down. You feel like you cannot do anything at all. I'm sure you are tired of reading tips and lists of things you should do to feel better when you feel depressed. Well, let's try to approach this in a different way. Here are nine things you should not do during a depressive episode.

1. Do not let your depression define you

Do not let your depression define you

Stop telling people and yourself, "I am depressed." When you state it this way, it is just tantamount to letting depression define you. When you let depression become your identity, it becomes so much harder to break away from it. You have to remember that depression is just an illness that you are experiencing. Depression is not who you are. The sooner you get that into your head, the sooner you can get better.

2. Do not think negative thoughts

You might find it hard to be positive when you feel your world crumbling around you. But understand that this is the sort of negative thinking that can get you into deeper trouble. Challenge your negative thoughts and replace them with positive ones.

3. Do not make big life decisions

When you feel depressed, you are thinking illogically. So hold off on making crucial life decisions such as those pertaining to your job and relationship. Your depression can cloud your right frame of mind and can lead you to make damaging decisions.
