| 7 Interesting Facts about Cosmetic Surgery … Posted: 16 Dec 2010 10:45 AM PST Recently, I was researching an article on the increased popularity of some cosmetic procedures, and came across a data sheet from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons with a slew of fascinating facts about the 12.5 million procedures done in 2009. A lot of the information was unexpected, and I thought I'd share it with you. Here are 7 interesting facts about cosmetic surgery… 1. Women get more than 90% of it
I was amazed, and a little sad, to learn that, in 2009, women had 91% of all cosmetic procedures, leaving only 9% of procedures being done on men. To me, that says women are much more concerned about their appearance… and that makes me sad. 2. Teens get it, tooAll teenagers are beautiful, and so many of them just don't realize it. They have their youth, their shine, but to many of them, their own youthful, natural beauty isn't enough, and they increasingly opt for cosmetic surgery. Last year, 2% of all cosmetic procedures were done on people aged 13 – 19, and the most popular procedures were laser hair removal, nose reshaping, laser treatment of leg veins, and laser skin resurfacing. 3. It's most popular among 40-54 year-oldsNearly half of all cosmetic procedures done in 2009 were for people aged 40 to 54 years. That's not surprising, I suppose, but the sheer number of them is a little overwhelming: 5.7 million procedures. 5.2 million of them were minimally invasive, and the other half a million required surgery. |
| 8 Big Time Celebrity Breakups This Year … Posted: 16 Dec 2010 09:55 AM PST I admit it. I keep up with the lives of celebrities. Why? Because they’re everywhere. Now, I’m not meaning this to be a snark post (at least, not exactly), because aside of being put out there for all the world to see, this stuff’s none of my business – and a lot of these breakups make me sad. Okay, some of them make me happy, but I’ll still try to be nice while talking about the 8 big time celebrity breakups this year. These are the ones that really caught me by surprise. 1. Sandra Bullock & Jesse James
This one was horribly sad, and it came as a huge surprise. The timing was also terrible. Sandra gets so much acknowledgment for The Blind Side, and then sudden her marital problems usurp her performance. Jesse James was an idiot on this score. Or maybe that’s just me, because I love Sandra Bullock. 2. Jenny McCarthy & Jim Carrey
This one was terribly sad as well. I mean, these two were like a match made in heaven, and they were so cute together. I read somewhere that the breakup was a natural one, because they felt they just outgrew each other. I can understand that – but I kind of hope they grow back together over time. 3. Ryan Phillippe & Abbie Cornish
This one was not so sad for me, but that’s because I obsessively adore Ryan Phillippe and don’t like him with anybody. I even got a little snarky jealous over Reese Witherspoon, and I adore Reese Witherspoon. Frankly though, I wish those two would get back together; thus far neither of them have been in a relationship that’s lasted as long as their marriage to each other, and they never quite make it to the aisle with their respective partners. |
| 10 Questions to Ask Yourself Before Starting a Business … Posted: 16 Dec 2010 09:35 AM PST Some people are content to work for others in a 9-5 job. However, there are those who want to break free from the confines of a cubicle. If you are one of those people, then you probably want to start your own business and be your own boss. You want to own your hours and do something you love. As wonderful as it all sounds, starting a business can be a messy deal. So before you decide to risk your savings and your sanity for your own business, ask yourself these questions to check if you can become a full fledged entrepreneur. 1. Will my idea make money?
Even if you want to make a business out of something you are passionate about, you should still take into consideration its money making potential. Think about the present market competition and how you will fare against them. Try to pinpoint the unique selling point of your product or service. 2. Who are my target customers?
Before launching your business, you should have already identified for whom you are providing your product. The design and price of your product are also dependent on the needs and wants (potential or present) of your target customers. Your target market or customers determine whether your product will sell or not. 3. Do I have a marketing and sales plan?
"If you fail to plan, you plan to fail." This saying definitely holds true for a business. You need to have a plan on how you will market and sell your product to your target audience. Some things you should take note of are: your unique selling point, marketing strategy, and branding. |

I spend about half an hour every day harvesting pretend crops, planting imaginary trees, and tending to make-believe animals. And I'm not alone. Literally hundreds of millions of people around the world love this free game, too, and if you've never tried it, you don't know what you're missing. Here are 7 reasons FarmVille rules! 1. It's relaxing
No matter how stressed or unhappy I am, just seeing my neat rows of trees and my cute little sheep are all I need to calm me down and cheer me up. It's remarkably relaxing to harvest my fantasy crops… almost as relaxing as actual garden work, only without the bugs, humidity, and dirt. 2. The animals are so cute!

| 8 Things Everybody Needs to Know About STDs … Posted: 16 Dec 2010 06:38 AM PST Spending my teenage years as an activist of a very popular Anti AIDS organization has been a motivating and a frightening experience in the same time. Motivating, because there was so much young people in it and we were all trying very hard to educate others and frightening because I often came across people that just didn't want to know anything… it was almost like they believed not knowing will save them from getting infected with one. Now, Internet hasn't been so popular back then as it is now, and I really believe next generations will grow to be much more responsible and educated ones. And with the official Anti AIDS day, the 1st of December, close by, I just had to list some facts about STDs. I'm sure most of you know these things but let's brush up on our knowledge once more. So, here we go… 1. Yeast infection and facts
Almost all women suffer from a yeast infection in some point of their lives and some even have to go through a serious, long term battle against it. Unlike other STDs, a yeast infection can happen on its own so if you feel itching followed by a thick white discharge, do not panic but go see a gynecologist instead. When balanced, yeasts "live a happy life" in our vaginas not causing any problems. It's their natural habitat and they contribute to maintaining a normal PH balance. Stress, long treatments with antibiotics and low immunity as well as some other, more serious health issues or hormonal changes could cause their number to grow. A yeast infection can be cured but it may come back again too. You can give it to your partner and, if you do, he'll experience itching and redness too. |
| 7 Reasons It’s Important to Replace Your Makeup … Posted: 16 Dec 2010 04:08 AM PST I came up with this topic for a very personal reason: I recently got a stye in my eye and I’m pretty sure it was due to using mascara that I’ve had for … wow, like a year? I know, I’m hanging my head in shame as I type. There are lots of reasons you need to replace your makeup on a pretty regular basis, and here are the most important ones. 1. Grainy, Thick Foundation
After half a year or so, liquid foundations and other types of liquid concealers have a tendency to get thick. They get those weird bubbles and they no longer go on smoothly. Some of them can even take on an odor, and you simply do not want to be wearing that on your face. 2. Bacterial Blues
In reference to my little eye problem, anything that goes on your eyes should ideally be replaced between three and six months. This especially applies to eyeliner and mascara. If you really cannot bring yourself to replace your mascara, then try to wash the brush itself in hot water every couple of months. That can also make your mascara go on smoothly again. 3. Germ Carriers
Every makeup brush can carry germs. If you use the brushes and puffs that come with your blush, eyeshadow, or powder, then often it can be easier just to replace the product. However, a lot of people use their own brushes. In that case, just make sure you clean them regularly. |
| 9 Things You Need for a Romantic Care Package … Posted: 16 Dec 2010 02:35 AM PST It does not need to be a special occasion for you to treat your significant other, for you to show them exactly how much they mean to you. Here are 9 things you need for a romantic care package. 9. Short list tell the receiver how much they mean to you
Create a short list saying why the receiver deserves the care package. This will show the other person that they do mean a lot to you because you have actually taken the time to think about them. 8. Some massage oils
You could spoil your partner by putting some massage oils in the care package and then treating them to a soothing massage. Often for relaxation peppermint is recommended as it has soothing qualities that really help to ease away any tension. 7. A specially designed card by you
A few kind words written by you in a specially designed card will make your significant other feel really special. If you are not too creative then you could always by the card and include a letter inside. In my opinion even if the homemade card does not look fantastic you will show your partner that you took the time and effort. |
| Posted: 16 Dec 2010 01:46 AM PST The majority of us have experienced that time when it feels as though are blood is boiling and we want to start a massive argument with people, in some cases for no reason. Here are 7 ways to avoid an argument … 7. Step back
If you do feel yourself about to burst after hearing something that you think is ridiculous, it may be worth taking a short break if possible. Go off for five minutes, make yourself a drink, do tip number three and remind yourself that it is only someone else's opinion. 6. Maintain calm at all times
In my opinion maintaining your calm is the most important way that you can avoid an argument. Often people become angry and start shouting at the other person, in my opinion this only adds fuel to the argument. This is because the other person then feels as though they need to defend their argument and themselves. 5. Present your side of the discussion in a rational way
When someone is saying something that you really do not agree with, do not turn around and tell them that their ideas are a load of rubbish because this is not constructive. In my opinion it is important that you think about the other person's argument and say why it is that you do not agree, do so in a logical way and try to refer to evidence to support what you are saying. |
| 9 Tips on Getting Your Child to Like School … Posted: 16 Dec 2010 01:20 AM PST One of the most challenged tasks that a parent has in everyday life is getting children to like school. Kids don't like school because of different reasons like the lack of motivation from their parents, teachers or the schedule that can be sometimes too hard for them and has many hours. Some useful tips to convince your child to enjoy it are here below… 9. Shop school things with the kid
Don't go alone when you buy supplies for the school, take your little guy with you and make you kid pick himself the goods, presenting them as they would be toys. 8. Find the Main Reason for Not Liking
It could be that a colleague upsets your child or your kid doesn't get along with the teacher. Many kids say they don't like school but they don't offer a valid reason for this. Talk to your treasure and find the bothering thing. 7. Help with the homework
Maybe the work that they do in class is too hard and he can't keep up with the others or it could be too easy for him and he gets bored fast. Or he could remain behind with the lessons and even if he understands the lessons he can't keep up with the teacher. |

| 10 Pretty Details to Add to your Home… Posted: 16 Dec 2010 12:24 AM PST I don’t know about you but I notice drawer pulls and switchplates of houses. Unfortunately, my current apartment has your boring set of beige switchplates and knobs. ‘Tis why I dream of having a house where every little detail is something I consider lovely or utterly whimsical. Someday, I’d have a house where I can include some of the following: 1. Alexandra Knob
Price: $8 at anthropologie Methinks this would be perfect for a drawer of correspondence. I know snail mail is no longer big these days but perhaps this knob can make you rediscover the romance or writing letters? 2.Color Swatch KnobPrice: $12 at anthropologie I shall reserve this for a set of drawers that will hold art materials. It’s also great for a cabinet of valuable fabrics. 3. Swedish Escape KnobPrice: $10 at anthropologie So pretty! If you have an all-white house, having a set of these knobs will do wonders for your overall design. 4. Chronograph KnobPrice: $8 at anthropologie This is one of the highest rated knobs on the site. It is perfect in size and you cannot deny that it is very pretty. It’s lovely without being too girly; the man in your house will love this, too. 5. Manuscript HookPrice: $38 at anthropologieI can never say no to things designed or decorated with antique manuscript. There is just something about them that says old-world romance. |
| 7 Ways to Bring in the New Year … Posted: 16 Dec 2010 12:04 AM PST Ringing in the New Year should be fun! I think of it as a way to bid adieu to the past year and start with a clean slate. I also like to make sure friends and family have a good time as well. Laughter filling the house is always a good thing. Here are 7 ways to bring in the New Year that might be new to you. If you have some fun ideas to add, feel free to share them as well! 7. Enjoy the company of friends
I always have fun hanging out with friends. We reminisce about old times and our kids tend to get a big kick out of some of the things we talk about too. Hanging out and doing a New Year's dinner party is one option. It could also be helpful to brainstorm and get some ideas for what your friends might like to do as well. 6. Host a themed party
This doesn't have to be as crazy as a masquerade party at Halloween, but it might be as entertaining! Maybe the theme could be your favorite decade, such as the 20s and everyone has to dress like flappers, even the guys. How about dressing up like a favorite storybook character? The options are basically unlimited. It could be quite the night to remember! 5. Observe traditional ways of the past and those not often celebrated everywhere
For instance, the Babylonians celebrated New Year for eleven days. Each day had a different festivity going on, which probably made for plenty of excitement. The Dutch think it is lucky to eat donuts on New Year's Day. This is because a ring symbolizes that something has come full circle, which is lucky. |
