| 7 Fast Ways to Get Over Your Broken Heart … Posted: 27 Dec 2010 10:38 AM PST It hurts, I know. To like someone so much, and yet have them hurt you so bad. And yet, there is still something in you that makes you want them anyway. If they hurt you now, they’ll hurt you later – that’s the hard truth. So, to save yourself from more heartbreak later, do these seven steps now! 1. Realize You Deserve BetterRemind yourself that you’re special, and that you deserve someone that will treat you that way. Everyone deserves someone that treats them right, that loves them unconditionally. Everyone, including you, deserves someone that respects them and their feelings. Realizing this is the first step to getting over an old crush. 2. Occupy Your TimeDon’t spend your time dwelling on the past and on what you wanted with that person. Put it behind you. Instead, fill your calendar with time with family and friends. Go shopping, have mani-pedi parties with girlfriends, do some baking in the kitchen – whatever it takes to deprive yourself of time to think about that one person in your past. 3. Get Rid Of MemoriesI know that memories in your mind are more difficult to get rid of, but rid your room and locker of anything reminding your of that person. If you can’t throw it away (like an expensive necklace or something) bury it deep in your closet a while, or sell it if you can. Seeing things that remind you of that person will only prolong the healing process. |
| 8 First Date Mistakes Men Make … Posted: 27 Dec 2010 10:01 AM PST You know what they say – the first impression is what counts the most. Therefore, when you are on a first date, you want to make it a good first impression. If you make too many mistakes, then you could really screw things up for yourself. There are some women who may look past your simple mistakes, but others will not. I am going to give you 8 first date mistakes men make. If you're a guy that is reading this post, take note that I'm not trying to make fun of you. I know that women make mistakes as well – but this should help you … 8. Being Too Focused on Sex
Image source: ryanboo.tumblr.com Yes, some men are too focused on sex. Being too focused on the first date could turn out to be a big mistake as you will appear to be too eager. It may also look as if you are only there for the sex. 7. Bad Personal HygieneImage source: introspec.tumblr.com Okay, so a guy walks into the diner and looks as if he has never brushed his teeth, plucked his nose hairs, shaved or bothered to change his shirt after he ate a big plate of spaghetti. I respect that you are being yourself, but this would not be a good first date choice. 6. Showing Up Late and Being DisorganizedImage source: rumplo.com On your first date, it would be a mistake to show up late. Even worse, you have lost your wallet. On your first date, you definitely do not want to appear to be a disorganized human being. |
| 8 Tips To Avoid Holiday Weight Gain … Posted: 27 Dec 2010 09:41 AM PST Christmas really isn't good for the waistline, is it. Party after party, dinner with friends, drinks with colleagues and enormous family meals, plus gifts of chocolates and bottles of wine adds up to a hefty consumption of calorific delights. However, there really is no need to eat so much that you then feel obliged to go on a New Year diet. Here's some tips to help avoid weight gain over the holiday. 1. Portion ControlThere's no reason why you shouldn't enjoy some goodies over Christmas. Just be moderate in your consumption. Stuff your face with unlimited quantities of everything you fancy for days, and of course the scales will protest. But a reasonable portion will still allow you some indulgence. 2. Pick and ChooseWhat do you like most? Is a meal incomplete for you without dessert, or do you enjoy going out for drinks? Or do you love sauces and dips? Simply pick the option you prefer, and decline the rest. Being selective means that you can still enjoy your favourites without overdoing it. 3. Think DrinkMost people like a drink at Christmas, and that's fine … as long as it doesn't turn into several. Alcohol is notorious for its calorie content (never mind its ability to make even the most sober person make a complete fool of themself). So limit your alcohol consumption and you'll avoid an awful lot of empty calories. |
| 7 Scary Situations and How to Handle Them … Posted: 27 Dec 2010 09:28 AM PST There are some scary situations that happen in the middle of nowhere. You're in the middle of a crowd at a concert, when all of a sudden, a fight breaks lose. How are you supposed to deal with this? If you run, will they notice you? There's security around, so see if you can make your way to them without being noticed or pulled back. Interested in what else I have to say? Here are 7 scary situations and how to handle them. 7. Online Stalker
You have been e-mailing a guy/girl back and forth and all of a sudden, they have started to stalk you. If you do not e-mail them, they send you harassing messages. They harass you in messenger, Facebook and any other way they can. Personally, I would just ignore them and get them off of my Facebook forever. If you are scared for your life, then contact the law enforcement agency. 6. A Drunk Friend Passes Out on the Floor
You may want to let them sleep it off, but that's a big mistake. As the system is metabolizing booze, the blood alcohol level of that individual could continue to rise and get to dangerous levels. Their life may be in jeopardy, so you need to get help. As you are waiting for the ambulance, check his/her vital signs for two minutes. During the first minute, see if he/she is talking between twelve to eighteen breaths. For the second minute, make sure her/his pulse measures 80-100 beats. If either is off or he/she is gasping for air, start performing CPR. 5. You Come Home and Find a Burglar
If you come home and you notice something fishy, such as a broken window, don't go in. Remember horror movies where you want to hit the person who chooses to go into the scary house instead of running? Use your common sense and run as fast as you can away from the house and call the police. |
| 7 Winter Goodies You Must Try … Posted: 27 Dec 2010 09:09 AM PST Winter is the time to do nothing but crave sweets, and so, even though we are making New Year’s resolutions to lose weight, we can’t resist the urge to create those delicious treats that send us into heaven and make our kids bounce off the walls from major sugar overloads. Here are 7 goodies I can’t make it through the winter without! 1. Snow Cream!
Photo Credit: linz89 I love it when it snows, simply so I can go outside and gather some untouched, white ice and make home-made winter ice cream! If you have never had this (I seriously have friends that have never tasted it!) then next time it snows at your place, you should try this. Simply gather a bowl of snow, add sugar, vanilla and a couple splashes of milk and you’re set! 2. Yummy Cocoa – Personalized!
Photo Credit: abstract.desktopnexus.com Let your kids, and other winter guests personalize their cocoa by offering additions like whipped cream, candy cane stirrers, peppermint ice cream, caramel topping, and anything else that sounds good with it. Of course, don’t forget the ever-faithful marshmallows! 3. Gingerbread Men
Photo Credit: flinchbaughsorchard.com I think gingerbread men are so incredibly cute! I like to decorate my kitchen in them during the holiday season, but I also love to make so real ones to eat. This is a great project to do with your kids as well. So try this recipe and make sure they don’t run away and get eaten by sly foxes! |
| Posted: 27 Dec 2010 09:07 AM PST My boyfriend and I live in Michigan, which is, in my opinion, only slightly warmer and more temperate than Alaska. So this year for Christmas, I'm buying him a coat, a REAL coat, something warm but not too bulky, something he can wear out and not freeze, or look like a snowman. I found a bunch I like at Urban Outfitters, and I've narrowed my list a little. Here are 7 great coats for men… which should I choose? 1. The North Face Redpoint Jacket
 2. Spiewak Naval Pea coat
 3. D Collection Roman Toggle Coat

| 8 Exercise You Can Do at Your Workstation … Posted: 27 Dec 2010 09:05 AM PST Not everyone can take an hour lunch break and head to the gym down the road for a bit of exercise. It isn't necessary to have to leave the office to get some exercise. The following list includes 8 exercise you can do at your workstation. The nice thing about these exercises is that you don't have to have a lot of time or any extra pieces of equipment to do them. See if some of these might work for you! 8. Toe Touches
This exercise always helps me to wake up when I feel fatigue setting in. Just about everyone has done toe touches at some point in their life, so most people know there isn't much involved with a successful toe touch. By successful I don't mean that you need to be able to touch your toes. My idea of a successful exercise is having one that feels like I'm actually working a particular muscle. All you have to do to perform a toe touch is stand up, lean the upper half of your body forward and extend your arm towards your toes. Take it easy when doing this exercise, since muscle injury is very possible when doing toe touches too quickly. 7. Lower Back Stretches
You can stay seated in your chair for this exercise. Keep your feet flat on the floor and your legs out in front of you. Grasp the side of your chair and make sure your torso remains straight. Don't slouch! Turn your head so that it is facing the same direction you are grasping and pull slightly until you feel the muscles in your lower back being stretched. For a deeper stretch, try placing your inside arm over the back of the chair and pull into the twist using this arm. |
| 7 Bad Social Behaviors Nobody Should be Exposed to … Posted: 27 Dec 2010 08:56 AM PST I know this topic may be a hard one to chew but hope you won't mind if I talk about it a little bit. I noticed that a person very dear to me is being exposed to one form of discrimination and actually believes that is how things should be. So this post is about to describe these social, or let's say anti-social, behaviors so we could notice them on time and warn the people involved in them that they are not only rude, immoral, physically and psychically damaging but illegal too, and that they shouldn't tolerate, support or initiate them. 1. Discrimination based upon genderWomen should sit at home, wash the dishes, take care of the children and make sure the hubby always has a homemade meal and a clean, ironed shirt to wear on his quest to provide for the family. Oh, don't worry, a woman can work but only if the family is in a major financial crisis, God forbid she actually plans to make a career out of it! Man, in the other hand, has to like cars and spend every single moment of his free time repairing something, watching the football game or leading macho conversations. God forbid he ever has any interest in fashion, gardening or whatnot! …. No, ladies, I'm not living under a rock – some people still think this is the natural order of things and are even ready to resort to violence to make sure the "natural balance" is maintained. 2. Discrimination based upon appearanceRemember Ugly Betty? Physical appearance is very important these days, so important, in fact, that some employers choose to put it before professional skills and knowledge. Both men and women are indirectly suggested they should change their looks in order to improve they social, business or love life. Beautiful people not only find jobs easier but advance in their career faster. I've seen it myself and heard more stories than I wish to remember. |
| Top 7 Makeup Tricks for Winter … Posted: 27 Dec 2010 08:54 AM PST Wintertime calls for changes in wardrobe, so it comes as no surprise that it requires a change in makeup and skincare as well. Because your skin can undergo such a crazy change in winter, your makeup will naturally follow suit. Here are some tips and tricks that will keep you looking gorgeous this season, though, no matter what the colder temperatures do to your skin. 1. Skin Is In
Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize: that should be your mantra this winter, at least if winter gives you dry skin. You should use a moisturizing concealer with a thicker formula – and you can use an oil or serum underneath it. If you have oily skin in the winter, make sure your moisturizer doesn’t contain oil. 2. The Foundation of Foundation
In winter especially, you should go with a richer formula and stay away from anything tinted and lightweight. Your skin is more prone to become uneven in the winter. However, you still want to make sure you choose a foundation that protects your skin. 3. Powder Power
If you have dry skin, only use powder on your T-Zone. That will keep it from looking flaky on your skin. You should also steer clear of bases and use a good, protective face cream instead. However, if your complexion gets oily, use your powder all over your face, because that will help mask the excess oils. |

| 14 Things Adults Can Learn From Children … Posted: 27 Dec 2010 04:30 AM PST We, adults, often think that more years of experience means being wiser and more learned. However, if we take time to observe children and their behavior, we will come to realize that children know a lot that we don't. It's as if life comes so naturally to them. Children haven't been totally tainted by society so they act natural and uninhibited. While we spend a lot of time teaching children, we fail to see that we also have a lot of things to learn from them. 1. Laugh with abandon!
Children don't stop to think whether something is truly funny or not. They give in to their natural amusement to most things and they laugh. They laugh out loud. They laugh with abandon. It is sad how adults can go through days without belting out a laugh. 2. Smile
Once we've grown up, our smiles seem to be scarcer. We become so burdened by problems and responsibilities that our faces become contorted into a permanent frown. But with children, they still manage to smile even when the world is frowning. 3. Let out your emotions
We bottle up our emotions because we don't want others to think badly of us. However, children don't act that way. They acknowledge and let out their emotions. Children will let you know when they are hurt, confused, angry, sad, or happy. Most of the time, there is no second guessing children. |
| 9 Tips for Elementary Students from a Teacher … Posted: 27 Dec 2010 01:44 AM PST These 9 tips for elementary students from a teacher might be ones you’ve heard over and over again. If they aren’t new to you, then I hope you are already using most of them! If you see some tips on the list that are new, then try them out and see what happens. Be sure to pass them on to friends and help them do better in the classroom too. 9. Complete work as it is assignedThe longer you make assignments take, the more likely you will have homework. Try to get work done as soon as it is assigned to you and you’ll have more free time later. If you are worried about forgetting about some assignments, then write them down in an assignment book or on a piece of paper. You can always ask your teacher if you are missing anything before you leave for the day. Asking a friend nearby is another way to help you remember what needs to be done for class. 8. Don't be afraid to ask for helpTeachers are there to help you. They don’t expect kids to know all there is to know about every subject, that’s why you are in school! Ask for help when you need it. If you don’t understand an assignment, then find out more information about it from your teacher. You can always ask a question right before recess if you are embarrassed about asking for help. Even friends can be a huge help when it comes to answering questions. You never know, you just might be able to answer a question that someone else has. 7. Help others who need itThis isn’t only for class work. You might have a friend or classmate who sits nearby and who needs help with something other than an assignment. Maybe your friend isn’t feeling well and is having trouble hanging up her backpack. Or maybe a classmate has just dropped his pencil box and now has a huge mess to clean up. Teachers greatly appreciate help from time to time as well. Be on the lookout for someone who could use a helping hand. You just might be able to put a smile on someone’s face! |
