| 9 Gift Suggestions for Active People … Posted: 30 Dec 2010 10:33 AM PST It's almost Christmas and I know that some people are still racking their brains and searching the internet for gift ideas. Because I am into the whole running scene and living an active life, I decided to put together a gift guide that will give you an idea what to give people who lead active lifestyles. I am only focusing on the general items because there are so many great products; it would hard to narrow it down to several specific ones. 1. ShoesWorkout shoes are an essential part of an active lifestyle. You cannot go wrong with this gift. Anyone who workouts out will really appreciate a new pair of trainers. In buying this gift, I suggest that you go shopping with the person you intend to give the gift to. This is to ensure that you purchase the right kind of shoes and get the right fit. 2. ClothesNew workout clothes would be a welcome gift any time of the year. If you are buying the clothes without the person who will actually wear them, make sure that you know their size. Ill-fitting workout clothes are the usual cause for blisters and chafing. This also applies to socks and, for women, sports bras. 3. AccessoriesWhile some people like to keep their exercise attire simple, there are others who like to accessorize. There are many accessories that can complement or enhance different physical activities. Some examples of accessories that you can give are: cap, visor, hydration belt, sunglasses, shoe wallet, arm band, and a belt bag. |
| 10 Feng Shui Tips for your Home … Posted: 30 Dec 2010 10:08 AM PST For Feng Shui, you should make the first welcome upon entering your home warm and pleasant. Above the entrance of a door, try hanging a Ba-Gua mirror. However, make sure you never use this mirror inside your home. Do you like these tips? I have always been into Feng Shui and enjoy writing/talking about it as well. Be prepared as I am going to give you 10 Feng Shui tips for your home … 10. The Five Elements
It is important that you know the five elements and what they do. To get you started, the five elements include Wood, Fire Earth, Metal and Water. These are the foundation for Feng Shui balance. They play an important role in putting together the perfect environment. 9. Clean that Clutter
You want the perfect look in your house? Then balance things out by getting rid of that clutter. Surely, there are some things you do not need in your home – get rid of it. Take note that this is an essential step that you should not look past. 8. The Ba-Gua
It is important that you define the Ba-Gua. This is the Feng Shui energy map of your home. You can use one of the two main methods. You have the BTB grid or the compass. Once you define this, you will know which areas of your house are connected to the areas of your life. As an example, in my house, the southeast is connected to the flow of money. |
| Posted: 30 Dec 2010 10:02 AM PST I've never met a child who didn't love building and playing with LEGO blocks. That includes me, of course. There are so many LEGO sets, though, that you may not know which one(s) to give as a gift this holiday season. It's overwhelming! But I've done some online shopping, and have found so many great ones that would be perfect gifts for the little architect on your list. Here are 7 fun LEGO toys for 2010… 1. LEGO City Advent Calendar

| 10 Poplular New Year’s Resolutions … Posted: 30 Dec 2010 09:39 AM PST We all make them – those promises to ourselves of things we plan to do in the new year, and yet somehow forget about by February! All around the world, people make New Year resolutions, and here are a few of the most popular: 1. Lose WeightLosing weight is the number one promise everyone plans to keep to themselves as the new year comes in. Problems with being overweight or obese are growing in the United States as well as many other countries around the world, and yet that number continues to grow. In the U.S. alone, over 66 percent of the population is either overweight or obese. Remember to set a reasonable goal, so as not to discourage yourself before you’ve even begun. 2. Spend More Time With FamilyIn today’s fast-paced lifestyle, it seems to be hard to fit the time in to spend more quality time with family and friends. Between moms and dads working, kids going to school and “hanging” with friends, grandparents taking their retirement seriously, there is a lack of time spent together as a family. People are recognizing this, but is it important enough to work at keeping the promise to do better? 3. Quit SmokingThe average 25 year old American smokes about 2 packs of cigarettes a day. That is roughly about $6 a day, $42 a week, $180 a month, and in a year, they have burnt up $2,190, at least! In five years of not smoking, they would have saved $10,950! Crazy, I know. And yet, many do. Hopefully, those who realize this and resolve to quit this coming January will stick to it and save themselves some money! |
| Posted: 30 Dec 2010 09:35 AM PST I can think of at least 10 simple things women want. I don't consider myself a high-maintenance kind of gal and I feel I'm a fairly reasonable person in general. I'm not big on trying to find ways to get rich. Money might make the world go round at times, but there are so many other things in life that can make a person happy. The things I listed below are ones that I feel any woman can have with very little effort. Of course, it's always helpful if there are loved ones in your life to provide at least some of these. 10. Compliments
What woman doesn't like hearing her outfit is stellar and her hair is gorgeous? A little compliment can go a long way. I know it's always nice to hear something nice at least once a day. People who have been in a relationship with someone for a long period of time often get out of the habit of complimenting one another as often as they probably should. Just because you've already been complimented about a certain thing in the past, it's still nice to hear it again, right? 9. A little bit of consistency
I'm sure there are plenty of women who can get along just fine with inconsistency, but it actually drives me a bit nuts. I would love to be able to have a schedule for each day. I'm fine with the occasional hiccup, but I do like to know what is going on and when it's supposed to happen. The dog is about the only one around here who is consistent; she paws at the front door at exactly 6am for her breakfast and then again at 330pm. Any deviation from these times and I hear about it! |
| Posted: 30 Dec 2010 09:26 AM PST Things haven't gotten too bad on the East Coast yet, but you can fill the bite in the air. Last year, I really wasn't adequately prepared for the weather here, so I'm stocking up and getting ready before it starts getting really cold. Here are my suggestions for 10 warm winter accessories that will also keep you stylish! 1. Sunglasses
 2. Tights
 3. A Big, Bold Scarf

| 7 Sexy Hairstyles For The Holidays … Posted: 30 Dec 2010 09:15 AM PST With all the parties and events you’re sure to be bombarded with in the next few weeks, it gets old doing the same thing with your hair after a while. As women we want a fresh, hot, gorgeous look every time we leave the house! These 7 sexy hairstyles will have you stylin’ high in 15-20 minutes tops! Whether you are headed to a gala or a party for two, everything you need is right here. So go ahead, grab some hairspray and bobby pins and get started! 1. The Polished Ponytail
Photo Credit: Eduard Titov Who says a ponytail is for the gym only? Here’s how to sexy it up! Spray almost-dry hair with a volumizer, and then lift sections up and away from your scalp as you blow-dry. Tease the top section lightly with a fine-tooth comb and then push it into a small pouf and secure with bobby pin. Pull the sides and back tightly into a ponytail and secure with an elastic band. Grab a small section of hair from under the pony and wrap it around the elastic to hide it from view. Secure with a small bobby pin. Use your comb to tease the ends of the ponytail and fluff it up a bit. Lightly spray your ‘do with hairspray and your ready to go! 2. Headbands
Photo Credit: brokenhallelujah Headbands are a quick, fun and beautiful way to dress up your look! My favorite varieties are the unexpected ones such as silver or gold, or bright and fun holiday colors like bright red or dark green. A couple of fun twists: If you have a wide headband, consider pinning a large brooch or holiday-inspired pin to one side. It gives you a festive pop of christmas in your hair! If you don’t favor wide headbands, try wearing two thin one. Push them apart at the top and you can go with either two matching headbands or two contrasting ones. Fun fun! |
| 7 Pretty Hanukkah Decorations … Posted: 30 Dec 2010 09:10 AM PST While I don't celebrate the religious meaning of Hanukkah myself (or Christmas, for that matter), I still love the decorations for both holidays. I love the Hanukkah decorations for their simple prettiness, and their meaningful symbolism. It's not always easy to find Hanukkah decorations, but one of my favorite online shops, Crate & Barrel, has a range of them I love. Here are 7 pretty Hanukkah decorations. 1. Silver Menorah
 2. 3-Piece Hanukkah Cookie Cutter Set
 3. Hanukkah Gelt

| 8 Ways to Get Rid of Hiccups … Posted: 30 Dec 2010 09:08 AM PST Darn those hiccups! They're annoying, not to mention embarrassing if you get them in public. Sometimes, hiccups can even be a bit on the painful side. For those of you wishing to chase them away, I have 8 ways to get rid of hiccups … 8. Water
Oh yes, water is something you should grab if you are having hiccups. Drink a whole glass of water and if for some odd reason, you still have those hiccups, continue to drink that water. 7. Breathe into a Paper Bag
You can also use this breathing technique when you have some stress you want to release. The next time you have some hiccups, grab a paper bag and breathe into it. 6. Gargle with Cold Ice Water
Do you have hiccups? Then go get a glass of ice water and gargle with it. The coolness helps chase those hiccups away. |
| 7 Vitamins that are Good for the Skin … Posted: 30 Dec 2010 09:02 AM PST Maintaining a healthy glow isn't always achieved through genetics, some of us have to really work at it. The following list of 7 vitamins that are good for the skin are available in most stores and sometimes they are even combined into a single pill. Research on the effects certain vitamins have on the skin can be found all over the net. Here's a quick list to save you some time in trying to look up each type of vitamin. I've also provided some foods that contain each vitamin as well. 7. Vitamin K
Vitamin K has a lot to offer, both as an internal supplement and as a topical ointment. Internally, vitamin K can't do much for skin. However, when it is added to skin creams, it is an excellent remedy for circles that form under the eyes. It also helps reduce the sign of bruising on the skin too. Foods with vitamin K in them include kale, spinach, Swiss chard, watercress, and most leafy greens. Since vitamin K taken internally doesn't help skin that much, then it's best to look for creams that have vitamin K added to them. 6. Vitamin E
At least 400mg of vitamin E should be consumed to help reduce the signs of aging, which is often caused by the sun. Wrinkles and cell damage can occur from pollution and daily exposure to just about any environment. Vitamin E also helps to improve the texture of the skin and make it suppler. Almonds, avocadoes, hazelnuts, peanut butter, spinach, and sweet potatoes are all foods containing vitamin E. 5. Vitamin D
Everyone should know by now that prolonged sun exposure increases the risk of developing skin cancer. Vitamin D reduces skin cancer by telling cancerous cells to stop reproducing. Bones are the part of the body that benefits the most from vitamin D, but it is still good for the skin too. Foods that have large amounts of this vitamin include; mushrooms, fatty fish, eggs, and beef liver. Milk and most cereals are usually fortified with vitamin D. |

| Top 8 Ways to Prepare Yourself to Meet Men Tonight … Posted: 30 Dec 2010 01:49 AM PST Having a night out on the town is something that I haven't participated in for many, many years. I still remember what it was like meeting men and hoping to make a good impression on them. Thankfully I don't have to deal with the issue of dating anymore, but I do have some tips for those of you who still participate in the dating scene. Here are the top 8 ways to prepare yourself to meet men tonight. You might find one or two to be somewhat helpful in your endeavor. 8. Wear appropriate clothingThe clothing you wear tends to reflect the type of guy you are going to attract. If you are merely looking for a good time and nothing serious, then that sexy little number at the back of the closet might do the trick. If you are hoping to meet a more conservative guy, then wear something that is comfortable and not too revealing. Another factor to figure in with clothing is the location of your hunting ground. You want to fit in with the crowd too. 7. Smell nice, but don't shower in perfumePutting on perfume too strongly can be a huge turn-off. I've walked by people who reek of perfume. The stench is so great that I'm certain they must have spilled the entire bottle on themselves. It's hard to believe that anyone would purposely wish to smell that way. It's never a nice scent either. It's always one of those pungent aromas that make my nose hairs cringe in horror. Yeah, nice visual. 6. Don't forget the deodorantI can't tell you how many times I've left the house and realized halfway to my desired locale that I've forgotten to put on deodorant. There's nothing like the uncomfortable feeling that your armpits are sweating through your blouse and that every guy has to be noticing the sweat glistening on your skin; not the good kind of glistening either. I recommend putting a small container of deodorant in the glove box, one in your purse, and one by the car keys, just so you remember to apply it. |
| Posted: 30 Dec 2010 01:45 AM PST I confess, I like cop shows. My dad got both myself and my mother into them, and I in turn converted the Better Half. I used to want to be in the FBI, so I like to live little vicarious fantasies through them! I have my favorites, of course; the following lists what I consider the 7 best cop shows on TV. 1. CSI
I love many of the CSI franchises. My dad and I argue over which is best. I prefer CSI:NY because I adore Gary Sinise, and dad always roots for CSI: Miami. I agree that one is awesome, but I also think David Caruso looks a little creepy. Still, he’s pretty awesome as Horatio. And yes, CSI:LV is also fantastic. I mean, Laurence Fishburne, people! 2. America’s Most Wanted
This show has been around forever, and with good reason. I love John Walsh, what he tries to do, and why. I think he is a fantastic, courageous, and strong man, and I would watch the show for those reasons alone. But I also love all the reenactments and things, and hearing all the ways people all over the world call in tips to put criminals behind bars. Go good guys! 3. Blue Bloods
This is also one of my favorite new shows. I think it’s fantastic! Funnily enough, Donnie Wahlberg was was my second least favorite NKOTB member (Danny was my very least favorite), but I think he’s a fantastic actor, especially in this. And it’s awesome to see Tom Selleck back on TV. Most of all, I love the story arc. I think it’s really inventive in a genre that can easily get stale. |
| 5 Movies I Can’t Wait to See Next Year … Posted: 29 Dec 2010 09:39 PM PST Can you imagine a life without movies? Can you imagine a year without a single fantastic film to watch? That would be incredibly sad. Thankfully, we have several amazing films to watch out for next year. Here are 5 that I cannot wait to see: 1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
Of course this is the number 1 movie I cannot wait to see next year. The end of the first part was powerful and I think the very last of these Harry Potter films will be quite something. Are you ready for the Battle of Hogwarts? From IMDB: The end begins as Harry, Ron, and Hermione go back to Hogwarts to find and destroy Voldemorts final horcruxes, but when Voldemort finds out about their mission, the biggest battle begins and life as they know it will never be the same again. 2. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger TidesThis is not really in number 2. My excitement for this movie is similar in level for my Harry Potter anticipation. I mean, what could be more fun than a Rob Marshall movie with Johnny Depp on it? Add Penelope Cruz, the fountain of youth, and Geoffrey Rush and you got yourself a party. From IMDB: Jack Sparrow and Barbossa embark on a quest to find the elusive fountain of youth, only to discover that Blackbeard and his daughter are after it too. 3. Winnie the PoohYep, there is a new Winnie the Pooh movie coming out next year. In this age of 3D animation, this particular Disney film is a wonderful surprise. I am all for old-school animation. Yes, I am old but seriously, these old-school illustrations are much more magical. 4. Jane EyreI remember reading this and absolutely loving it. For those who are not familiar with the story, here is a summary from IMDB: After a bleak childhood, Jane Eyre goes out into the world to become a governess. As she lives happily in her new position at Thornfield Hall, she meet the dark, cold, and abrupt master of the house, Mr. Rochester. Jane and her employer grow close in friendship and she soon finds herself falling in love with him. Happiness seems to have found Jane at last, but could Mr. Rochester’s terrible secret be about to destroy it forever? Side note from yours truly: I think Mia makes for a perfect Jane. 5. The Girl with the Dragon TattooThis is the Hollywood version of the first book of the Millennium Series. Directed by David Fincher, this one will surely hit the right spots. I know some of you are huge fans of the original movie. I am, too. But really, give this movie a chance.I bet it will be incredible. No poster yet so I give you here one of the first photos of Daniel Craig filming in Stockholm. I know there are many more fun movies coming out next year. It’s a lie to say that I am excited to see only 5 but these will be my top choices if some evil force told me that I can only watch 5 films in 2011. How about you? What movies are you excited to see next year? |
| 8 Pretty holiday Manicure and Pedicure … Posted: 29 Dec 2010 12:17 PM PST The holiday season is the best time to dress up your nails. I love the snowmen, snowflakes and Christmas trees I can display on my nails! All the glittery and shining sparkles look so festive and fun! Here are my favorites for the holiday season! 1. PresentsPaint your nails red, then use a green paint and design a ribbon down the middle of your nail. About ¾ way up your nail, paint a ribbon across the nail. Design a cue, little bow right where the two ribbons meet. Now your nails look like gifts, all wrapped up, ready for Christmas morning! 2. SparklesNow is the best time for sparkles, glitters, and jewels. Use gold speckled nail paint. Then apply bright gems or diamonds. Another idea would be to use a green or red paint and apply gold dust specks randomly across the nail. 3. SnowflakesPaint you nails white or silver. Using a pretty blue, design a snowflake in the corner top of your nail. Snowflakes are relatively easy to design, but if you are in a hurry, you can buy glue on snowflakes for the same effect. |
