10 Things You Need to Stop Doing in Your Everyday Life …

During the course of the day, you have many things to do and accomplish. You have your habits and routines, as well as other tasks and responsibilities. These are the things that you normally see on your to-do lists. However, there are things that you do on a daily basis that you actually need to stop doing. These things make use of your time and energy with no positive results in the end.

1. Wasting your time online

If you want to get anything done in real life, then you need to stop wasting your time online. You only need so much time to check, answer, and send emails. You need to watch the amount of time you spend on Facebook because you can waste a whole day on it. You have to limit the time you spend surfing websites, blogs, and forums.

2. Not setting priorities

Priorities are important because they help separate the things that matter and the things that are insignificant. Setting priorities help declutter your mind, your day, and your life. If you are still not setting priorities, then you need to start doing it now. Stop doing things that don't matter to you and your overall life plan.

3. Always saying "Yes"

If you are one of those people who say "yes" to everything and everyone, then you need to stop doing it right now! You are in danger of over committing yourself. You need to identify who and what activities are important to you. Let go of relationships and activities that do not really matter to you. Make your commitments accordingly.

7 Athletes Who Make Great Role Models …

It seems like every couple of days, we hear something in the news about one of our sports heroes getting into trouble — spousal abuse, an illicit affair, drunk driving, drug use, steroid scandals, and more. As a parent, it's hard to feel confident in any of the professional athletes our children look up to. Aren't there any good, solid, honest athletes out there our children can emulate as demi-heroes? Actually, there are! If you look carefully, and pay attention to who's NOT being trounced in the news, there are several fantastic pro athletes who make good role models… and here are 7 of them.

1. Tim Tebow, Denver Broncos

Tim Tebow, Denver Broncos
When I first saw Tebow on the field at Florida State with his John 3:16 blackout under his eyes, I wasn't impressed. Anyone can talk the talk and appear to be religious and good, but would he walk the walk and be a true Christian? So far, he has, appearing to be sincere, genuine, and truly good, a deeply religious, good-hearted man. What a superb role model for any young person, religious or not!

2. Armando Galarraga, Detroit Tigers

Armando Galarraga, Detroit Tigers
I don't know much about Galarraga's past, or his personal life, which is a good omen in itself — when pro athletes get into trouble, we all hear about it. But all I needed to see was his grace in the way he handled a blown call that cost him a perfect game this season. When the umpire who made the bad call tearfully admitted his costly mistake, Galarraga hugged him and never said a negative word about him (at least not in public). For that, he earns a place on my list. He's a total class act.

3. Mia Hamm, retired professional soccer player

Mia Hamm, retired professional soccer player
There are few professional female athletes for young women to look up to for inspiration, but for generation of girls, Mai Hamm has been a relevant, engaging, worthy role model. She is honest, down-to-earth, and dedicated to supporting families who benefit from bone marrow transplants through her Mia Hamm Foundation. For decades, she's inspired girls to do their best, and now inspires mothers with her happy, successful marriage to a pro baseball player and their twin daughters.

8 Ways to Cure Homesickness this Holiday Season …

I still remember the first holiday season I spent away from my parents. I didn’t see them from before Thanksgiving until after New Year’s, and it devastated me. Even being with the Better Half and the in-laws to-be in a warm, loving environment didn’t completely tamp my feelings of homesickness. For those of you away from your immediately family this year, here are 8 ways to cure homesickness this holiday season – and I really hope they help.

1. Skype with Family

The internet can be a serious blessing when it comes to staying in touch with your family during special occasions. Skype and other programs like it allow you to talk to your family and see them, which can really help. Trust me, if you don’t have a built-in webcam or something, it’s worth it to buy an inexpensive one and a little microphone headset. It’s almost like you’re there, and anytime you get lonely, all you have to do is log on.

2. Phone Home

Maybe it’s old fashioned, but the phone is still a worthwhile means of communication. Sometimes, all you need is to hear the voices of the people you miss the most. Personally, I like phone headsets for this reason: you can stay on the phone as long as you want and carry your family around with you if you need to. And yes, I am guilty of doing this.

3. Do Volunteer Work

Helping other people have a happy holiday can be so rewarding that it makes you feel better too. Volunteering at a soup kitchen, taking meals to the elderly, or gathering toys for children are all great ways to spend your time during the holidays anyway. When you are feeling homesick, helping them can dampen your feelings of homesickness because you’re doing something so worthwhile.

7 Things I Will Put in My New Year’s Resolution …

Every new year is a brand new chance to fix the mistakes you've made and start leading a better, happier more fulfilled life. I, personally, enjoy making New Year's Resolutions and, this one, the Resolution for 2011 will be a very important one for me, because I have many changes coming my way this year. So here are some of the most important things I'm going to put in it:

1. Learn how to chill

My mom always said there's no point crying over spilled milk. "When something goes wrong, think rationally and see if there's a way to fix it. If not, leave it and move along but make sure you learn something out of it." Now, why was this always such a problem for me? Why do I stress over things that are not worth it? I have no idea, but I know I'm ready to change that!

2. Organize myself better

Planning and organizing used to be my middle name and I hope I'll be able to go back to that. I honestly don't know what I did wrong or what has changed but I noticed my organizational skills are getting worse and that I don't have as much free time as I used to have. I'll get myself a planner and start writing down everything I need to do along with the time needed to do it.

3. Make a family tree

When I was younger, knowing who my ancestors were was not on my list of priorities. Things have changed now, and I definitely don't want to leave my country not knowing everything there is to know about my family. I think every person should make a family tree at some point. You don't need to have a very big reason to do it – the desire to discover who you are is enough. After all, you might even discover that you had a famous relative. How cool would that be, huh?

7 People a Girl Should Know …

No matter how amazing and talented and smart you are, you simply can't do everything yourself. You need a team of helpers, your own talented do-everything crew, people you can trust to do all of the things you can't, or don't want, to do. I have my team on speed-dial, and I can't count the number of times they've been there for me. No, they're not m friends and family — they're my best stylist, mechanic, and more. Here are 7 people a girl should know to assemble her team of super-helpers!

1. Mechanic

Every girl needs a trustworthy, reliable, honest mechanic. Let's face it. Most of us don't know a carburetor from a fuel injector, so we need to know that there's someone we can count on to know everything about our car and how and when to maintain and fix it. It's best if that person is a dad or brother or boyfriend, but if not, it's important to search until you find a mechanic you trust.

2. Dry Cleaner and/or Seamstress

I can't count how many shirts, skirts, and coats I've lost to a poor dry cleaning job. That's why I trust just one local cleaner. I'll never take my clothes anywhere else. It's also a great idea to find one with a seamstress, for taking in skirts, fixing hems, and stitching buttons back on.

3. Florist

Baby showers, dinner parties, holidays, graduations — these are only a few of the occasions when flowers are a marvelous gift. That's why I have a local florist on speed-dial. On those more-frequent-than-I-care-to-admit occasions when I put off buying a gift until the last minute, my florist bails me out and helps me choose an amazing gift that the recipient will love, no matter that the occasion.

8 Tips on Being a Good Maid of Honor …

As the Maid of Honor, you have quite a long list of responsibilities. You are basically the right-hand man and need to be available for the bride whenever she needs your assistance. The following 8 tips on being a good Maid of Honor are by no means the only ones out there. It's a huge privilege to be asked to be the Maid of Honor. I hope the following tips help you to be the best Maid of Honor ever!

8. Keep the mood lively

You don't have to be a constant source of laughter, but it would help if you are able to get the bride to see the humorous side of things every now and then. Keep smiling and making lots of positive comments. Cheering the bride up is part of your duty as the Maid of Honor. Make sure she's happy and doesn't get so bogged down with the wedding planning process that she becomes an emotional wreck.

7. Be a good listener

It's an unsaid part of the Maid of Honor's job description. You are supposed to be a good listener and be there for the bride when she needs to vent about an aspect of the wedding that isn't going according to plan. The bride should also be able to share her excitement with you as well. Even if something seems to re-emerge constantly, listen intently to what the bride has to say.

6. Set up the bridal shower

Being the Maid of Honor means it is your duty to plan a shower for the bride-to-be or at least co-host it. There might be someone else who is already making plans to host the bridal shower, but it would still be a good idea if you helped as much as you could. Definitely spread the word that the shower is going to take place, whether this news travels via card or word-of-mouth is up to you.

8 Tips on Coping With Emotional Eating …

Emotional eating can turn into a serious situation. Health issues can arise from this condition, such as diabetes, stroke, and heart disease. Signs of this condition include eating when you are bored, lonely, angry, depressed, frustrated, or afraid. Overeating and gaining an unhealthy amount of weight often causes more stress. Here are 8 tips on coping with emotional eating that have helped many individuals.

8. There's nothing wrong with occasional cravings

The trick here is to know how to go about giving in to a certain craving so that it remains a craving and doesn't turn into overeating. It's very easy to sit down with a bag of chips or a package of cookies and finish off every last one without even realizing you are doing so. Try this: separate the contents into smaller servings so that you can monitor how much you are eating in one sitting. It's important not to grab all the servings at once though. This would defeat your purpose!

7. Don't skip meals

Skipping a meal is a sure way to be even more ravenous than usual later on. When you miss a meal, your blood sugar levels tend to be much lower and rationalization can often fall by the wayside. I know I become much more edgy when I miss a meal. This edginess causes me to snap at innocent people for no reason at all. It also causes me to eat everything in sight the moment I walk through the door.

6. Talk to your doctor about checking for other health issues

Sometimes emotional eating is triggered by another medical condition that is unknown. For instance, depression can cause emotional eating. By dealing with depression emotional eating might then cease as well. Doctors know what signs and symptoms to look for when searching for the cause of something. The answer might be very simple and making a doctor's appointment could be the first step needed.
