7 Dramatic Eyeshadow Looks for Winter … Posted: 14 Jan 2011 11:57 AM PST Just as clothing styles change every season, so do makeup trends. I am focusing on eyeshadow looks because so many women, myself included, are always looking to bring out their eyes. Plus, there are some really gorgeous looks going around this season. Check out these 7 dramatic eyeshadow looks for winter, and see if you don’t agree. 1. Ice Queenshttp://journeying.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/Eyeshadow.jpg Icy shades, particularly icy, frosty pastels, are very in this winter. Their most dramatic variations involve using no eyeliner, or very little of it, and focusing on a dark mascara instead. Think of an icy pink or lavender shade frosting lightly over your upper eyelid, complemented and contrasted with dark lashes! 2. Boldly Bluehttp://s3prod.weheartit.netdna-cdn.com/images/2816846/tumblr_l4vi07isfh1qcz0hho1_500_large.jpg?1277977902 Although I don’t think I could carry it off myself, blue is a hugely popular eyeshadow color this season. And the more boldly you layer it on, the better. Shades like cobalt, dark cerulean, and bold royal blues will make your eyes pop – if you’re brave enough to go there! If so, make sure that the rest of your makeup is understated. 3. Glamorously Greenhttp://s3prod.weheartit.netdna-cdn.com/images/5752200/tumblr_lchra9x5N91qapij1o1_500_large.jpg?1293180320 You have to do that with this look as well, because green is in too. Now, I remember way back when, light greens were in, light frosted greens at that, and the look was … not cool. This season, however, bolder is better. Bright emerald greens, hunters, even chartreuse with a hint of gold – and in fact, mixing it with a little gold dust is all good.
Posted: 14 Jan 2011 10:49 AM PST I love traveling overseas, but the longer the flight, the worse I tend to feel. Though I like to visit to other countries, flying isn’t one of my favorite things. When I have to be in a plane for 8 hours to visit another country, the addition of jetlag upon arrival tends to make me a bit cranky. Here are 7 tips to overcome jetlag that I’ve collected. Some of them I have used and found them to work quite nicely. 7. Try to rest on the planeSleeping on the airplane will help you to be at least somewhat rested when you land at your destination. I find it easier to fly at night and arrive to another country early in the morning. I can usually fall asleep for at least 2 or 3 hours. Even this short nap helps me to not be quite as tired as if I’d stayed awake the entire flight. 6. Take a showerI might take a warm or a cool shower when I get to the hotel at my destination. It will depend on what time of day I arrived. If it is early in the morning, then I’ll take a cool shower to wake myself up. When I arrive in the evening, I take a warm shower to relax and calm down from the flight. Being woken up by a shower helps me to have an extra boost of energy to see some sights before going to bed. Relaxing in the evening will help me get a good night’s sleep and start the day fresh. 5. Stay awake until it's bedtime at your current locationI try to stay awake until it’s bedtime in the new country I’m in, even if I didn’t get a wink of sleep on the plane. I might have to drink a few cups of coffee to pull this off, but it is possible. If I give in to sleep right away and it’s 6am, then I end up throwing off my schedule for more than just one day. If I choose to go to sleep when I arrive early in the afternoon and continue sleeping until the following morning, then I end up missing out on a lot of the sight seeing I could have been doing.
7 Relationship Issues You May Have … Posted: 14 Jan 2011 10:31 AM PST It can't be helped sometimes. When more than one person is involved in a relationship, there's bound to be problems. Even relationships between friends and neighbors can become strained. Generally speaking, no relationship is without problems. Even in a "match made in Heaven" issues arise that you may not have an answer for. Maybe you will find what you need in this article… 1. Your Spouse Lacks Something You DesireFor instance, you a prank pulling, joke laughing kind of gal, but he is serious as a heart attack. What can you do? Invite him on a date where nothing but fun is allowed. You may also want to think about an afternoon with your best friend for a day of laughs. Last, make a list of all the good traits you love about your spouse and post them where you can view them often. Seeing all the wonderful things you fell in love with may make those traits he or she lacks less noticeable. 2. Learn to Say NoYou stay at home all day and your neighbors and friends, and sometimes family, seem to assume you are free to run their errands. Just because you are home all day doesn't mean you do not have things to do. Learn to say no and stand up for yourself. 3. Gift ExchangeYou and your family decided to put a limit on the amount of money you spend on gifts, yet your one family member always spends twice the amount. While you probably appreciate her gifts, it may unnerve you the way she spends more than everyone else. Le her know you love her gifts, but it is not how much she spends, but the thought in the gift that you love the most.
7 Reasons I’ll Never Own a Kindle … Posted: 14 Jan 2011 09:59 AM PST I’m going to admit something here: I’m a book lover. Duh, right? I’d even go so far as to say I’m a book snob, which in my case only means that if I see a lot of books lying around your house, I automatically like you better. Also, I hate the Kindle and other products why. I think I have justification for it though. Want to see? Here are 7 reasons I’ll never own a Kindle. 1. Too ExpensiveI’m particular about the things on which I spend money, and I wouldn’t spend it on a Kindle. I just couldn’t justify the purchase. I wouldn’t let anyone else buy it for me either. If I want something, if I really, really want it, no problem, I’m no miser. But I probably wouldn’t buy a Kindle even if the price came down to $50. 2. Too TechnologicalI get that it’s easy to buy books, and I get that the books themselves are comparably cheaper. I understand the idea that the Kindle ultimately pays for itself. But you know, I already have to basically have my PC, my laptop, my cell phone, and my iPod attached to me with an IV, I don’t want some other technological wonder to cart around. I don’t need something else to charge up all the time. A book will fit in my purse better anyway. 3. No TextureOne of the things I love best about books is their texture. I love the way the pages feel beneath my fingers. That goes double for older books and for old hardbacks especially, with their thick pages and uneven edges. No matter what, I could never get that with a Kindle, and I know if I read a book on one, the pleasure of reading would be damped by the lack.
7 Pros of Long Distance Relationships … Posted: 14 Jan 2011 09:55 AM PST Not having your sweetheart around when you need him can be really frustrating. I know, believe me. I've been there and, given the fact that my fiancé and I live in different countries and that I still have to come back home to finish up the last few exams I have left, I can freely say we still sometimes engage in the familiar, long distance stuff that used to be out reality up until some time ago. Contrary to many beliefs, long distance love can work, grow strong and turn into the happily ever after. In fact, long distance relationships even have their advantages. Interested to know which ones? Well keep reading… 1. You get to know each other betterTalking is what keeps the long distance relationship from falling apart. You can't hug, cuddle and go out so you do the only thing you can – talk! Some people use Skype, others prefer typing on msn or gtalk but the basic principle is the same. The more you talk, the more you get to know each other and, since you can't spend two hours talking about the weather, you start sharing your goals, ideas, principles, opinions, past relationship experiences etc. 2. You can tell if he/she is fakingThe one-on-one time the two of you can spend together is limited to just a few days or a week, if you're lucky, so it's logical you'll try to get the most out of it. If you know he'll be gone soon and you won't see each other until next month, you'll want to spend every second with him. Right? Now, would you believe if I told you that your one week of practically living together is worth more than 2 months of casual "2-hours a day, 3 days a week" dating? You see, people in normal relationships can date for like 6 months or even a whole year before realizing the other person is nothing more than a very good actor. Why? Because you can dress up, put on your pretties smile, act differently and say things people want to hear. After all, it's only 2 hours! However, when you're with somebody 24/7, little bits and pieces of your normal behavior will come through. Something will slip and it doesn't take a lot to make your partner start wondering are you really w ho you claim to be.

7 Tips on Writing a Personal Ad … Posted: 14 Jan 2011 09:50 AM PST Personal ads are all about selling yourself the right way. That’s the only way to ensure that you get responses from like-minded people. And how do you sell yourself the right way? Follow these tips on writing a personal ad. 7. Do You Like Pets?Mention whether or not you like pets, because this is a big thing in today's world. If I were to write a personal ad, I would definitely mention how much I adore pets. 6. Do You Speak a Foreign Language? If you are able to speak a foreign language, then be sure to mention this. You might end up finding someone who speaks that language. This definitely branches out and offers more of an audience. 5. Avoid Mentioning SexWhen you are writing that person ad, it is important that you keep it clean in this manner. You need to avoid even mentioning the word sex. Keep it out of that ad – you hear me?
Posted: 14 Jan 2011 08:42 AM PST I love my iPod. Notice I didn't say "my MP3 player." That's because I'm completely brand loyal to my iPod, and will probably never buy anything other than another iPod to replace it. Why am I so loyal, so confident in my adoration of my iPod? Here are 7 reasons iPods rock. 1. The Beatles! After, what? Ten years? The Beatles catalog is now available on iTunes, and while this means a lot to me, a fan, it's even more important to the generation of music lovers before me, many of whom haven't really even considered buying an iPod before now. A case in point: my mother, whom has never said she wanted anything, is begging for an iPod for Christmas, so she can re-live her youth listening to the Fab Four. 2. Colors!iPods are available in a range of cool colors, from sleek grey, black, and silver to candy-hued pink, blue, yellow, and green, and even AIDS-awareness red. To me, a total artsy type, this is important. I don't want a cold, clinical black iPod. I want PINK! Or ORANGE! Or BRIGHT BLUE! Yeah! 3. An iPod for every user and occasionMy boyfriend, the techie, loves his iPod Touch. My daughter, who is a music junkie, has an iPod Nano. I have a tiny Shuffle for using at the gym. Whatever your need, or the occasion, or your style, there's an iPod for you. They have different physical sizes, different capabilities, and different storage space capabilities.
8 Signs you are a High Maintenance Girlfriend … Posted: 14 Jan 2011 06:09 AM PST You probably do not want to be a high maintenance girlfriend or you do not mean to be. So, let's read 8 signs you are a high maintenance girlfriend. If you decide that you are, then it is up to you to change it. 8. Expensive JewelryExpensive jewelry are not surprises. No, not for a high maintenance girlfriend. For a high maintenance girlfriend, expensive jewelry would be a requirement. 7. Your CarIf you do not have a top of the line car, you will get dirty looks from the girlfriend if she is high maintenance – this is definitely one of those warning signs to watch out for. 6. Refuses to Drink Water from TapEven if it were the last thing on earth, she would not drink that tap water – nope, not that high maintenance girl. Oh and for all of you who say it's gross drinking from tap. I'm sorry – I need to clarify that I am talking about filtered tap water.
7 Beauty Trends for After Work … Posted: 14 Jan 2011 01:36 AM PST Sometimes, when you want to go out after work, you don’t want to go home first. Or, if you do, you’re simply not sure how to pull off a great evening look. Worry not, fellow fashionistas! Here are 7 beauty trends for after work – and they include lots of tips that will take you easily from day to evening, so you’ll have more time to hang out and have fun! 1. Red LipsThis is something you can do right in the office before heading out on the town. Red lips are the signature vamp look. No longer too much, as long as you’re a minimalist everywhere else, these are the perfect after work staple. Just remember to go easy elsewhere. A smokey eye and a red lip just won’t do – that’s way too much. 2. Wear Your BluesThere are a lot of dramatic makeup trends for after work that require you to tone down elsewhere. Blue eyeshadow is one such trend. I’m not talking those gaudy blues seen in the 1980s and 1990s. Now, it’s all about icy colors and denim shades that combine blue with grey. A perfect nighttime look, you can really pull this off when the sun goes down. 3. Purple PoutingPurple is hot this season, but like a slick red lip, you have to be careful. If you’re brave enough to try a dark violet lipstick or a lilac stain, go easy with the rest of your makeup. You don’t want to make your look too dramatic, and purple is definitely a dramatic color. The best thing to do here is let that be the focal point.
8 Tips on Getting Rid of Yellow Jackets … Posted: 14 Jan 2011 01:34 AM PST Whether or not you are highly allergic to wasp stings, the thought of being harassed by them is enough to make most people cringe. I prefer to not have to even worry about the chance of being stung by a yellow jacket. The 8 tips on getting rid of yellow jackets I have listed below will help you to get rid of these pests, hopefully for good. 8. Locate the nest during the dayIt might be difficult to locate a yellow jacket nest, unless you know where to look. Most wasps place their nests high in rafters, along the eaves of houses, and in old trees. Yellow jackets are ground dwellers, so you will need to look along the ground for wasps that are foraging. They don’t swarm like bees, which might make the entrance a bit more difficult to find. Since wasps aren’t nocturnal animals, you can’t wait until nightfall to try and find the nest. Find it during the day and attack it at night. 7. Pour soap at the entrance to their nestThere is generally a single entrance to a yellow jacket nest. Pouring liquid soap down the entrance to the nest will usually eliminate wasps from coming and going. This method might deter the wasps for a while, but it generally doesn’t completely eliminate them. These little bugs are hardy and can go without food for quite some time. All they have to do is wait for the soap to dry out a bit and then crawl out of the nest. Sometimes yellow jackets will move out of a nest that has had soap poured down it, so you might luck out and at least get them to move. 6. Don't leave pet food outside for long periods of timeYellow jackets like the protein contained in animal food. They like anything with protein in it. Take in bowls of cat and dog food after your pet is finished eating. When kibble is left out, yellow jackets are attracted to it. Once they locate a food source they will keep coming back. If the pet food bowls are located by a doorway, then you run a high risk of getting stung. These wasps will sting for any reason they feel necessary. They don’t have to be provoked at all.
7 Signs you are with a Mama’s Boy … Posted: 14 Jan 2011 01:04 AM PST I've never been able to successfully settle down with a guy who was considered to be a Mama's Boy. The men I knew who fell under this title were very hard to deal with. I found them each extremely irritating and often in more ways than one. Here are 7 signs you are with a Mama's Boy. I'm not saying you should run in the other direction, but it is good to know what you have in store for you. 7. He is always out looking for something for his mom when you two go shoppingTalk about annoying. Here's the scenario: You're out shopping with your man and he constantly comments on how particular items would be perfect for his mom. He does this in every store and with just about everything he sees. I understand if he's trying to drop the hint that mom's birthday is coming soon and he needs to buy her a gift. But, each time you go shopping? 6. When you two fight, he runs to momNot to be stereotypical, but it's usually the woman who heads home or to a friend's house when a love spat ensues. You might have a Mama's Boy on your hands if your guy is always running to his mom when things don't go his way. I have a friend whose ex-husband did this constantly. He would not only run to his mom when things weren't the way he though they should be, but he would threaten to tell his mom when my friend did something that made him angry. 5. He does everything she tells him to doIf your guy isn't capable of thinking for himself and he has to rely on his mother to tell him every move to make, then this could be a sign that he's a true Mama's Boy. Some mothers try to talk their son's into doing things that they approve of and I know guys who feel obligatory to do whatever their mother tells them. However, there comes a time when a man should act like an adult and have a mind of his own.
8 Ways To Help Your Community … Posted: 14 Jan 2011 12:02 AM PST It's often said that the old sense of community has disappeared, and that in cities most people don't even know their neighbours' names. However, there are many residents who are working to improve their local area, and who do believe in helping their community. Here are some suggestions for what you can do to join in. 1. Cleaning UpHave you ever walked past litter and tutted? Or thought that it's about time the council cleared it up? Annoying as it is to clear up someone else's mess, it costs no effort to pick up some garbage and throw it in the bin. Or you can join an organised clear up of a river or local area. 2. VolunteeringMany local groups depend on volunteers to keep them running. Giving a little of your time can provide kids with a place to socialise or play sports, give parents a place to meet, or alleviate the loneliness of old people. 3. OrganisingTo bring a community together you have to give people a reason to feel part of it. Events like outdoor concerts help foster a sense of local identity, and meet other residents. Someone has to organise these events, so why not get involved? Join in with existing programmes, or get together with friends and initiate something new.

8 Best Advances In Technology … Posted: 13 Jan 2011 12:25 PM PST I'm old enough to remember the early days of some of the technology that we now take for granted. I've seen the invention of the video recorder, the mobile phone and the Walkman. All of these have been improved and developed, as you would expect. Here are some of my favourite advances in techology. 1. Mp3When the Walkman came on the market back in the 80s, it was great to have music on the move. The annoying thing about it was having to carry cassettes, and wind them back and forward. Then came CDs, which were an improvement on tapes. Now we have Mp3and Mp4 players – hundreds of songs in one little player. Love it. 2. InternetIf the internet had never been invented, you wouldn't be reading this and I wouldn't have written it. It's revolutionised life in so many ways, allowing easy communication with people all over the world and enabling many to work from home. So much information is now easily accessible. 3. FlatscreensI used to dislike how bulky TVs were, with the back taking up so much space. Now, flatscreen TVs are available at reasonable prices, as are flatscreen monitors. So they don't occupy so much space.
