Posted: 16 Jan 2011 12:09 PM PST The military style is hugely popular right now. It’s been around for some time now, but this season, the look is softer and far less hard edged. Do you know what that means? It means it’s no longer necessary to go out and buy a bunch of new pieces to pull off this look. Here are 7 tips to do the military style on a budget – right out of your closet! 1. Recycle Cargoeshttp://www.shefinds.com/2010/files/Loft-Silk-Cargo-Pants-On-Models.jpgMost girls have cargoes. I have something like five pairs hiding in the back of my closet. Guess what? You can use this when going for a military style. You can wear them as they are or you can roll the hems a little, and you’re good to go. Get a studded belt or some suspenders to go with them, and you might have just bought them yesterday. 2. Cadet Capshttp://www.kinnairdbagpipes.com/product_image/thumbs/Guinness%20Cadet%20Cap.jpgEven if you don’t have a cadet cap hiding in your closet, you can get one on the cheap. They are everywhere right now, and that could be the one element you use to pull off the military trend. Because, see that’s brings us to– 3. Don’t Go Overboardhttp://s3prod.weheartit.netdna-cdn.com/images/2251727/BQcDAAAAAwoDanBnAAAABC5vdXQKFldoWDRhUkJnM3hHdVBCOEZrMmF4NEEAAAACaWQKAXgAAAAEc2l6ZQ_large.jpg?1273924857You don’t want to dress head to toe in military. Why would you? That’s just taking the look too far. It’s too much; you’re not drawing the eye, you’re overwhelming it. So even if you only wear a cadet cap or your cargoes, you’re still rocking the military style – you’re just not overdoing it. It’s too easy to do that, but if you limit yourself to one or two trendy pieces, you’ll be all right.
Posted: 16 Jan 2011 10:50 AM PST Each guy is different, so some of the items on my list might come across as cheesy to a few, but utterly romantic to others. It all depends on the man on the receiving end. I've compiled a list that includes 7 things he would love to hear you say. I'm sure you've seen the positive reaction that followed by making one of the following statements. 7. That new pick-up truck was an excellent choiceGuys often pride themselves on their trucks or on any vehicle they happen to own. Some men go so far as to refer to it as their baby. Telling your guy that he picked out a winner will get you a huge amount of brownie points. Usually if a man gets complimented on his vehicle or for making a good choice on something, the person giving the compliment is thought highly of. If you can give him a compliment that combines both these aspects, then Sister, you're Queen!6. You're so strong and manlyBeing a good provider seems to be highly regarded in the male world. The big, strong, manly men are always competing to see who is Top Dog. Letting your guy know that he's the big strong one you admire will keep him more than happy. Asking him to do some simple tasks that require lots of strength will only engrain this comment deeper. He will be thinking about your statement the entire time he's performing the task.5. I've got this oneThis statement can be used in many different ways. You could say it in reference to a tab, a chore, or in regards to something your guy is trying to accomplish, but not really wanting to do it. I know early morning is never a fun time for my husband. I try to help him out any way I can. By uttering these words I can easily allow him to sleep in another couple of hours while I run the kids to school. I can almost hear him smile in the dark as I tell him, 'I've got this one.'
Posted: 16 Jan 2011 10:31 AM PST Toothpaste is one of those household items that has literally dozens of different uses – plus, it’s always on hand in your home! At least, I really hope so. It can make your life a lot easier, especially in terms of cleaning. Take a look at these 7 unique uses for toothpaste, and see if you don’t become a believer! 1. Remove scratches from old CDsI have personally tried this method, and it works wonders. What you need is a plain white toothpaste and a soft cloth, like an old tee shirt. By rubbing the toothpaste on scratched CDs, it buffs out the imperfections exponentially. I have several CDs that I thought were damaged beyond repair, and now they play without skipping!2. Remove scuffs from shoesToothpaste will work on a lot of shoes, from sneakers to leather. I am hard on my shoes, I get scuffs all the time, so this could be a life saver. With sneakers and shoes like that, feel free to scrub, and then use a damp cloth to wipe away the residue. With leather shoes, a little dab will do you, then just rub it in with a soft cloth, and rinse with a damp one.3. Clean stains from carpets, walls, and clothingToothpaste works great to remove stains on clothing and carpet, and can take crayon marks off the walls. With carpet, you can use a hard brush. With walls, you will want to use a damp cloth to rub the toothpaste over the marks. With clothing, put the paste on the stain and the rub the fabric together. Be firm! You might need to try this one a couple of times.
Posted: 16 Jan 2011 10:03 AM PST Some time ago one of our dear readers mentioned she's not beautiful and that one comment got me thinking about all those makeup articles I wrote. Ladies, I never said makeup and clothes are what makes us. We talk about them because they are a part of our lives. So, sweetie, wherever you are, you were right about one thing – no makeup will make you beautiful. But, only because there's nothing to make – you already are beautiful. We all are! And here's what makes us really special and unique: 1. PersonalityPersonality is like a fingerprint – somebody probably has a very similar one but you can rest assured it's not 100% identical to yours. Your will to learn, ability to be honest, the way jokes always sound funny when you tell them, need to talk nonstop or be quiet when you have nothing good to say, the fact that you are a friend everybody could wish for… That's what's so beautiful!2. EyesYou can't see yourself when you are happy, sad, surprised or in love but people around you know just how beautiful your eyes are. Not because you wear a ton of mascara or eyeshadow but because they speak for themselves. I didn't believe this is so important until my fiancé revealed that the first reason why he knew I'm the woman of his life are my eyes. He said, "You looked at me like that and I knew I can't allow myself to lose you."3. Good mannersEverybody can dress up to look like a lady but good manners and ladylike behavior is something no money can buy. This girl I know, for example, is a living proof of that – good to look at but only if she doesn't move, talk, or even breathe! Good manners do make a difference. They attract people. Being in the presence of a well mannered person calms people down and makes them feel proud to be friends with such a person. Guys act like gents around ladies, don't forget that.
Posted: 16 Jan 2011 09:53 AM PST Keeping the romance alive is what it is all about. Today, the Internet has some things that will help you keep the romance up and running. These tips can be used with those that are in online/long distance relationships. However, you can also use them if the two of you are living in the same room. Continue below as I am going to show you 7 online romance tips that you may be in need of … 7. Send Cute Email Image source: suninhereyes.tumblr.com To this day, my husband and I still do this. Sure, we may be in the same room, but nothing beats being able to send and receive cute emails. I have known some other people who do this as well. 6. Make a Page Dedicated to Your Partner Image source: tumblr.comThis is a great idea. If you can get a domain just for them and dedicate it to them, then I am sure they would love it. On this page, be sure to include recollections of past times together. Some people do this to ask their partner to marry them. 5. Make a PowerpointIf your partner uses Powerpoint in their job each day, why not make a Powerpoint slide showing how cool your partner is.
Posted: 16 Jan 2011 08:39 AM PST We're girls, and we’re so powerful. We can do anything! We can cook, clean, sew, play sports, and even fix our cars. That's right — we girls can even fix our cars, or at least we should be able to do some things to our cars to keep them running well. If you can't do all of the things on my list, have a trusted mechanic (or your dad) teach you. It's important! You don't want to be a damsel in distress. Here are 7 car maintenance things girls should know how to do. 1. Change a flat tireFlats happen, so you need to be prepared to fix them. Be sure you have a spare, or a "donut," and make sure you have a jack and tire iron and know how to use them. You'll find this endlessly helpful, and the first time you change a flat, you'll feel fantastically proud.2. Change and/or check the oilNowadays, oil changes are inexpensive, and with environmental regulations and the price of oil, it's easier to let someone else change and dispose of your oil. But you should still know what happens when you're oil is changed, and you also ought to know how to check your oil, and how to add more if you need it.3. Check/adjust tire pressureIt's not only dangerous to ride on over or under-inflated tires, it also drains gas mileage. That's why it's a good idea to know how to check your tire pressure, and if it's low, how to add the right amount of air. It's also smart of keep a few quarters in your car, because some air machines cost money.
Posted: 16 Jan 2011 08:38 AM PST We all want longer, fuller lashes, right? We know what we need to do (or not do) to keep our nails and hair long and healthy, but what can we do to keep our eyelashes looking long and lush? There's quite a lot we can do, actually… here are 7 tips for longer lashes! 1. Use a strengthening productCheck any of your favorite cosmetics websites (like Sephora) or even just your local drugstore (or drugstore.com) and you'll see a range of new lash-strengthening serums. These are designed to be worn either under or instead of your mascara, and they're designed to condition your lashes and keep them from falling out. Most are meant to be applied to your upper eyelid along your lash-line and swept across your lashes themselves.2. Use a gentle eye make-up removerIn the past, I used plain soap and water to wash away my eye make-up each night, which was effective, but dried out my lashes and made them fall out. Now, I use a gentle, non-drying eye make-up remover, so gentle I can even use it when I have my contacts in, and I've noticed I don't lose nearly as many lashes.3. Don't scrubYou might be tempted to scrub your eye make-up away, but don't. If you're using a make-up remover, or even just warm water on a washcloth, you don't need to scrub to get your eyeliner and mascara to come away from your lashes, and scrubbing can actually pull your lashes out. Eek!
Posted: 16 Jan 2011 06:53 AM PST I am going to give you 7 worst celebrity dads. I know, who am I to determine whether they are bad dads or not? Perhaps they just had some bad moments and now, have made their way on their list. For those on my list, maybe they can prove me wrong by correcting their mistakes and being good dads. I may be able to look past the others, but it is celebrity dad number 1 on my list that really makes me mad. 7. Michael LohanObviously, Lindsay Lohan did not have a good father in her life. He is the one responsible for shoving his young child in the spot lights. He also did no give her the privacy she needed and has leaked various things. Sure, she may be trouble within herself, but Michael Lohan showing up with the paparazzi really does not help things.6. Jesse JamesHe claims to be a family type of guy, but I think his actions speak louder than words. I mean, there he was, while in the process of adopting a child, cheating on his wife, Sandra Bullock.5. Joe JacksonIn "Moonwalk," Michael Jackson finally opened up about the alleged emotional and physical abuse he went through because of Joe Jackson. He recalls his dad sneaking in his room as a child in the middle of a night while wearing a mask. Supposedly, he was trying to teach him a lesson about leaving his window unlocked. I guess this would be a nice way to do it and he probably locked his window every night after this, but some of the other things that were revealed just makes me want to put him on this list of 7 worst celebrity dads.
Posted: 16 Jan 2011 01:38 AM PST Birthday parties can be either a blast or an extreme headache. I prefer to make parties memorable for all those involved and not become stressed out in the process. The 8 tips on throwing a birthday party for a little kid that I’ve listed below are ones I’ve gathered over the years. Even though my kids are all teenagers, I still remember the days of parties for the wee ones. They were a blast! 8. Begin planning well in advanceLast minute birthday parties are possible, but they sometimes don’t turn out the way you’d hoped. Planning things out a few weeks before the party is to happen will give you time to think of just about everything. It’s always good to write the plan out and save it for the next birthday party. I always had an ongoing list that got updated and altered from time to time. This made it so much easier to make sure everything got done well before the party was to take place.7. Pick a theme that all kids will enjoy and let parents knowMost of the time you can choose a theme your own child likes and the other kids will follow suit. I always found it very easy to pick themes that all kids enjoy. It’s best to let the parents in on what the theme is for the party too. This will give them the opportunity to make sure their child has the right costume, if needed. Not all birthday parties need to be a dress-up event, but kids do like to dress as their favorite character every now and then. They do get a kick out of seeing each other in costumes too.6. Know your limitsIt's nice of you to want to invite the entire neighborhood, but one person can only handle so many children on their own. There is a supposed party rule when it comes to determining how many small children to invite to a kid’s birthday party. The rule is that you take the age of the child and add one onto it for the number of kids to invite. I never used this rule, since a party with only 2 or 3 kids never sounded like much fun. I do recommend that if you aren’t a very organized person or are easily stressed out, try to have a fewer number of kids than you think you can handle. After one party, you might have a better idea as to what your limits are and more can kids can be invited to the next shindig.
Posted: 16 Jan 2011 01:38 AM PST Not everyone who has narrow shoulders wants to show them off. It’s a purely personal choice. Some girls are perfectly happy with having thinner shoulders, and that’s awesome. For those of you who aren’t, however, here are 7 tips for flattering narrow shoulders. I hope they work for you! 1. Get Fitted ClothesFitted clothes are important. Your clothes need to fit your body style perfectly. If they are too large, your shoulders will look larger than you want them to. If your clothes are too tight, however, then they can make your shoulders look even smaller and even more pronounced. A fitted look will make your shoulders look the best they can.2. Small Shoulder PadsShoulder pads are back, and they can really help with small shoulders. Don’t go overboard; you’re presumably not on the football team, so you don’t want to look like a linebacker. You also don’t want to look like a throwback to the 1980s, when women wore power suits with ginormous shoulder pads. A little bit of padding will go a long way.3. Spaghetti StrapsSometimes, the best way to flatter a feature is to call attention to it, even if you think of it as a flaw. Spaghetti straps draw the perfect amount of attention to your shoulders. They accentuate the shape and smallness of narrow shoulders, and bring them out as a stellar feature.
Posted: 16 Jan 2011 01:08 AM PST Watching game shows was always a big thing when I was a kid. I remember sitting around the television, taking turns guessing what the answer was going to be or cheering on contestants participating in physical activities on the game show. Here are 7 of my favorite game shows of all time. Some you might remember as well and others you'll just have to catch on reruns. 7. The Gong ShowIn case you aren't familiar with this game show, it was basically a talent competition where the judges showed their dislike for the performance by hitting a giant gong. If all three judges hit the gong, then the act was stopped immediately. Some of the performers were absolutely hilarious. Oingo Boingo were seen on this game show before they became famous. Pee Wee Herman was also seen on The Gong Show once upon a time.6. Let's Make a DealThis game show has been around since the mid-sixties. The audience is known to wear outlandish costumes at times, in order to stand out more in the crowd. Members of the audience are chosen to participate on the show. The host offers the contestant a deal and it is then up to the contestant to decide whether he should accept the deal or not. It's a toss up as to whether or not the deal will be for something desirable or undesirable.5. Family FeudTwo families participate in this game show. Points are achieved by answer questions with the top answers obtained in a national survey. If you or a family member comes up with one of the top answers, then more points are awarded to your team. The family with the most points wins the game.

How about working a puzzle or taking a few minutes to work these puzzlers. Have fun, get your mind off your work, and strengthen your thinking skills in the process. Enjoy! 1. Bring a good giftNot to confuse you any, but it is time the hostess of the party got the respect she deserves. What, you have no idea what I am talking about? Well, here is the puzzle:What is the number one Hostess offering? Hint: a scrumptious 8-letter word. 2. I’m dreaming of a…While you may be thinking about a white Christmas, there are a few other visions dancing around the pillow, too. I know, there are hundreds of things we think about when Christmas is so close! Brush the snow away and get your mind on another thought:The best possible dreams at Christmas time. Hint: two poetic words. 3. If only in my dreams…Yep! Another dream for you to figure out. This is a nice dream. Some place I always want to be, no mater where I may be:Where I want to be for Christmas. Hint: My heart is already there. |
Posted: 16 Jan 2011 12:07 AM PST My feet do not like winter. It's just too cold for them! So I usually end up wearing two pairs of socks. But another way of keeping them warm is by wearing some lovely furry boots. Here's my pick of the fur-lined and fur-trimmed boots. 1. Fur Cuff Wedge Price: $39.99 at cgi.ebay.com You can't go wrong with black boots, but what I like about this pair (apart from the stylish furry trim) is the wedge heel. These might not be the boots to wear in harsh conditions, but if all you need is to keep warm and look good, then they'll do fine. 2. Fax Sheepskin Price: $19.97 at cgi.ebay.com These boots look so cosy, as they're fully lined with fake sheepskin. It makes me feel warm just looking at the picture! If you want something different from black, there is a lovely pale beige version, or you can opt for grey. 3. Australian Style Price: $17.99 at cgi.ebay.com If you like Ugg style boots, but can't afford Ugg prices, these might do the trick. Again, they're fully lined with fake sheepskin, and the cuff can be folded down to make a furry trim. I love the purple colour, as you don't see brightly coloured boots so often.
Posted: 15 Jan 2011 12:21 PM PST It’s getting pretty grey out there. I think that’s one of the reason the dregs of January and February can be so depressing – there’s no color out in the world. While everything outside might be comprised of greys and whites and the shades of dirty snow, your house can be vibrant. Here are 7 tips on making your home more colorful. 1. Make It LightWhether it’s pulling up the blinds or using lighter colors, this is a great way to brighten up your home. White or beige or pale, pale green might seem boring, but just wait until you see the way it brightens and opens up everything.2. Really Go GreenGoing green – literally – is a great way to add some color to your home. You can go with literally any shade. I am partial to something like a dark, hunter green carpet, lighter, soft, sea green walls, and accents in mauve or a very light rose. That will not only make a room look larger, it will also make it look bright and cheery on even the dreariest of days. Green in all its variations also looks good all year round.3. Be DramaticChoose a dramatic color for your central theme – but don’t make it too heavy! If the colors in your home are heavy, they’ll make you feel that way too. They can suck the energy right out of you! However, you can be dramatic without being too dark or heavy. What about something pink? A mustard yellow, a warm pumpkin orange – the options are limitless!
