| 10 Tips on How to Wear Sequins … Posted: 04 Feb 2011 11:18 AM PST Sequins are really going to be hot this winter and spring – but there are definite do’s and don’ts when it comes to wearing them. Here are 10 tips on how to wear sequins that include both the pluses and the minuses, so you can really rock this trend. 1. Do Mix and Match
Photo Credit: 13bees Not only is it a good thing to mix and match, it’s something you should do. Mixing sequins with simpler articles of clothing that do not have embellishments will almost always look good. You can dress up something old or something plain without fear of going overboard. 2. Do Not Go Crazy
Photo Credit: nicolettesara Speaking of which, don’t go crazy with the sequins! Treat them gently! You don’t need sequins on your shirt, your jean pockets, your socks, and your shoes. That is just way too much, and the eye won’t have anywhere to go – plus you might blind someone! 3. Do Accessorize
Photo Credit: Naughtee Bits If you’re a little wary about wearing sequins on your clothes, never fear. You can still work this style out. Accessories decorated with sequins are a totally acceptable alternative. You might choose a pin, a hat, some sunglasses, or a piece of jewelry. Either way, sequins are great for accent pieces. |
| Posted: 04 Feb 2011 10:20 AM PST My boyfriend and I recently bought a set of bookcases from IKEA, and after the six hours it took us to assemble them, our biggest task now is filling them. Of course, my shelves on the bookcases are crammed with books, but his shelves are nearly bare… so it's time to find some books for him, books he'll want to read, books that aren't all written by Jon Krakauer. Here are 7 books any guy will love! 1. "How To" by Jennifer McKnight-Trontz
 2. "The Artists in the Office" by Summer Pierre
 3. "Stuff White People Like" by Christian Lander

| 7 Things You Should Never Buy Used … Posted: 04 Feb 2011 10:00 AM PST Last week, I did a post on things you should never buy new. Today, I am going to do a post on 7 things you should never buy used. Of course, I am not going to put things like panties on here, because you should already know not to buy those used. Are you interested in hearing what I would never buy used? 7. Car SeatsYes, the car seat may look okay, but damaged car seats are not uncommon. The safety technology improves every year for these. Car seats aren't that expensive either. With these, I always say buying new is the best option. You should never buy these used. 6. TiresMind you, some of you have probably purchased tires before in order to save a couple of dollars. I used to do the same thing, but now, I don't. When you buy used tires, you do not know what you are buying. You don't know if they have been in an accident before. 5. SoftwareYou should never buy used software. This is because most software will come with a serial number. If the software shows the serial number, that still does not mean it is okay, because on a lot of software, if the serial number has already been registered, you will not be able to use it again. |
| 7 Worst Fashion Disasters of the Decade … Posted: 04 Feb 2011 09:55 AM PST While the last ten years had some fashion highs they also saw some of the worst fashion disasters ever seen. Trends, which were unflattering, tacky or just plain gross, inexplicably became hugely popular. Thankfully most of them are on their way out, but before we say goodbye to these horrible trends, let's walk down memory lane and review some of the worst fashion disasters of the decade. 1. Harem Pants
Photo Credit: duende clothings Harem pants are probably the most ugly if not unflattering style of clothing ever to make its way into the fashion scene. The only people who could possibly carry them off were the extremely skinny undernourished model types. Sadly the remaining 99% of the population didn't seem to be aware of that. Women of all shapes, sizes and heights tried desperately to rock this look and most failed miserably. 2. Visible Thongs
Photo Credit: denimobsession In which alternate universe did it become appealing to see a woman's thongs peeping over their low-rise jeans? Thanks to Brittney Spears, suddenly teenage girls everywhere joined the club. Fortunately they all realized how incredibly crude and tacky it actually looked and let it die a natural death. 3. Juicy Sweat-Suits
Photo Credit: ferhatsglm These tacky sweat suit pants hit the scene a few years ago and literally everyone was rushing to get one in different colors. It was just a tracksuit after all but what set it apart was the lettering 'Juicy' across the posterior. A definite entry into the worst fashion disasters of the recent past, the Juicy sweat suits made women everywhere dish out $200 to look tacky. |
| 11 Self-Destructive Behaviors … Posted: 04 Feb 2011 09:48 AM PST We all deal with life in our own ways. It's not always easy but we make do with our individual capabilities and limitations. While some people go through life with savvy and finesse, some of us take the negative route and harm ourselves in the process. We fall into lies and desperation, unhealthy or dysfunctional patterns, and we slowly dig our own graves. This is self-destructive behavior and many are formed by an individual's deliberate choice, an acquired or developed habit, or even impulses that can't be controlled. Here are some common self-destructive behaviors women, and even men, engage in. 1. Eating DisordersMen and women fall prey to this self-destruction as they become more exposed to media's lies about beauty. They try to fit into the ideal beauty at the cost of their health and even their lives. These men and women diet and exercise excessively and this habit eventually turns into eating disorders. They develop a fatal addiction to control, to calorie restriction, purging, and over-exercise. 2. Self-Injury or Self-HarmThe truth of the matter is, physical pain is concrete and thus more manageable than emotional pain. This is why a lot of people choose to injure themselves to cope with the overwhelming pain inside. Cutting, burning, skin picking, breaking bones, choking, hair pulling, and stabbing are just some examples of how people injure their physical bodies. 3. Alcohol AbuseMany people drink copious amounts of alcohol because it numbs the pain, brings down their inhibitions, and makes them forget about their problems in life. And although alcohol seems like an innocent substance because it is legal, it can cause serious physical, mental, and emotional damage to the drinker. The lives of the people around them are also affected. |
| 7 Best Animated Movies of 2010 … Posted: 04 Feb 2011 09:30 AM PST There were so many marvelous movies released in 2010, and near the top of most critics' best lists were at least two or three animated films. I'm not at all surprised — almost all of my own faves were animated! One of them may even be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars… how cool is that? Here are the 7 best animated movies of 2010… which do you think might be up for an Oscar? 1. Despicable MeI absolutely adored this movie! It starred the voice talents of Steve Carrel and Miranda Cosgrove. Carrel plays Gru, an evil scientist intent of shrinking, then stealing the moon. To shrink it, he needs to steal a shrink ray from a fellow villain… and to accomplish this, he adopts three little girls and uses a million of his tiny little minions. Of course, he ends up falling madly in love with his new family, and isn't quite as evil as he pretends to be. 2. Legend of the GuardiansMy boyfriend's youngest son loved this movie, but I don't know how much it will appeal to anyone other than ten-year-old little boys. It tells the story of two sets of owls — one set are basically bullies, the other are their targets. The storyline is empowering (the little guy can win) and the animation is top-notch, but the story may be scary for smaller kids, and girls might be bored. 3. TangledHas there ever been an animated movie by Disney that wasn't fantastic? 2010's offering was "Tangled," a modern update of the classic Rapunzel story. She's got the long blonde hair, the evil step-mother, and the handsome rescuer… but since it's Disney, the story is more complicated, the animation is amazing, and there are plenty of laughs. I loved it! |

| Posted: 04 Feb 2011 08:55 AM PST Ladies, looking good is important. Whether you're working or at school, you want to your clothes to suit your personality, your body type and, of course, your bank balance. While this might seem simple enough, I'm sure you'll agree that mistakes are not unusual, and often fashion faux pas are the result of bad shopping. I'm a retail junkie, and I'm sure most of you can relate, but every now and then I get a glimpse of why some of us hate to shop. Without a clear idea of what you're looking for in mind, buying clothes can be totally overwhelming. Here's a list to guide retail rookies through the shopping experience … 1. Cull without mercyBefore you head out for a major shop, take a few hours to rid your wardrobe of everything you don't need anymore. I know it can be hard parting with some of the stuff, but if you haven't worn it in a year and it's not couture or a classic then, trust me ladies, it needs to go out. Bag up all the cast offs and take them to a charity. That way you're helping yourself and others all at the same the same time! 2. Know your wardrobeWhile there may be certain staples that we need in duplicate, ladies please remember that variety is the spice of life! If you already own five pinstriped shirts, why not consider a fresh new print this time round? 3. Make a listExperts suggest you keep a list pinned in your closet and every time you get dressed and find yourself wishing for a certain item, you write it down. The list then comes with you the next time you go shopping as a record of everything you need to perfect your existing outfits! |
| 8 Reasons To Embrace Growing Older … Posted: 04 Feb 2011 08:51 AM PST It always amazes me that some people have such a fear of growing older. Sure, it can't be much fun to be very old, when your body doesn't work so well, but that's a long way off for most of us! I believe very strongly that age is a question of attitude, and I'm really enjoying being in my 40s. Here are some reasons to embrace growing older (note, NOT growing old …) 1. InevitableYes, it's going to happen to us all. So why fight the inevitable? It's far better to accept that we'll never be as young as we once were, and just get on with enjoying life. Who cares about the past? You can't get it back, so live in the here and now. 2. WisdomAs you advance through life, you learn a thing or two. Getting older doesn't mean that you stop making mistakes, it just means that you make different ones. And that's part of being human. Being older gives you the wisdom to accept that you're not infallible and will get things wrong – and so what? 3. ConfidenceWithout a doubt, I have far more confidence in my 40s than I ever had before. Now, I accept myself as I am, and don't worry about trying to please other people. My friends of the same age feel the same – we all love being 40+. |

| 8 Powerful Women Characters on TV … Posted: 04 Feb 2011 06:34 AM PST It seems like the only shows on are reality shows, and it’s pretty hard to find a strong, female role model on something like Jersey Shore. Yeah, okay, I love reality TV, but I miss really strong female characters. So, I came up with 8 powerful women characters on TV – some of them recent and some of them not so much, but all of them admirable – to me at least – in a number of ways. 1. Clair Huxtable
Photo Credit: heraldextra.com The Cosby Show hasn’t been on the air for years, but Clair Huxtable is my all time, number one favorite character. Lawyer, mother, lover, friend – she is all things to all women. Yeah, it was a TV show, and yeah, there were some pretty cheesy messages, but what was realistic was Phylicia Rashad’s portrayal of what it was like dealing with all those kids while holding down a professional career and keeping up the romance with a husband who was often like a sixth kid. 2. Temperance Brennan/Bones
Photo Credit: serietivu.com Bones is proof that even if you’re not ready for marriage, children, or a relationship – and even if you don’t want one – you can be successful. She is proof, too, that there are no limits for women anymore. We can be anything. We can even discover things we have no business discovering from just glancing at human remains! 3. Lisa Cuddy
Photo Credit: fanpop.com Lisa Cuddy is another strong, successful woman who does things her own way. She might have simultaneously horrible and awesome taste in men, but she also oversees an entire hospital – and she’s a single mom. She didn’t take no for an answer with her career, her family plan, or her boyfriend. |
| Posted: 04 Feb 2011 06:22 AM PST I feel YouTube is one of the best websites around for not only entertainment purposes, but for many other reasons as well. There isn’t another site on the web that can come close to comparing to it. Here are my 7 reasons to use YouTube. I’m sure you have some reasons of your own, so please feel free to share them in the comment section. 7. There are plenty of videos for hours and hours of personal entertainmentI’ve bookmarked many videos just because they made me laugh. I like to have certain videos on hand so that they can make me smile any time of the day. It’s also nice to share fun videos with friends and family members. The number of views some of the videos on YouTube receive are phenomenal. I can’t believe some of the shortest and simplest videos have hundreds of millions of views. 6. Your videos can be used as a resumeThis is a tactic that many actors use. They will write, produce, and star in a short film and then place a video of the film on their YouTube channel. Singers can also use their personal channel as a resume in a similar fashion, but with videos of them singing songs instead of acting. If you are an aspiring actor or singer, then you will be able to quickly direct potential employers to your YouTube channel so they can see what you are capable of. 5. Uploading videos is easy to doAs long as you have a camera that is capable of connecting to the computer you should be able to upload videos fairly easily. You don’t even have to own a high quality camera, although it does help out a lot when trying to entice people to view your videos. Poor quality videos are more likely to receive fewer views than those that are done well. Uploading a video to YouTube takes a few simple steps, and then you sit back and wait while the video is uploaded to your channel. |
| 8 Worst Types of Bosses to Work For … Posted: 04 Feb 2011 06:16 AM PST I don't feel like sharing my experience right now, but I will just tell you that I have been through heck and back in a workplace – which is the main reason I work for myself today. I guess it has shaped me and made me who I am today and that's fine. Right now, I am going to give you 8 worst types of bosses to work for … 8. The Accuser BossWhen your boss sits there pointing fingers at you, this is a big no. Your boss should not point any fingers at you when he/she is talking to you – you are not a dog. Plus, they are doing nothing but accusing you of something that you did not do. 7. The Type Who Hates the Opposite Sex BossOh yes, if you are a guy and you have a girl boss who seems to have it out for every guy in the work place, you better watch it. The same goes for girls – if you are a girl who has a guy who seems to have it out for every girl in the work place – you better watch it. The type who hates the opposite sex boss just doesn't sound fun. 6. A Racist BossThis is sad, isn't it? However, in today's world, you will still find racism going on. You will find racism against blacks, against whites, against Arabs, against Jews, against Chinese – no matter what, it's alive and running in its own little way. A racist boss is no fun and really, something should be done about it. |
| 8 Things I Do When I Feel Frustrated … Posted: 04 Feb 2011 06:09 AM PST From time to time, we all get frustrated, whether you are male or female, young or old – you get frustrated. You don't have to admit it, that's not what this blog is about. In this blog, I am going to try to help you see that you can easily get over that frustration. I am going to give you 8 things I do when I feel frustrated … 8. WorkWhen I am frustrated, I work. Of course, my career is writing for tons of clients/sites and as long as I am at home, I am at work. However, by work, I don't just mean your career. I mean work that needs to be done in your house. Perhaps your house needs to be cleaned? I have found cleaning is therapeutic? 7. ReadI always find that reading is helpful when it comes to getting rid of frustration. Surely you have a good book sitting around somewhere, right? If not, then try reading some stuff online. 6. Play with My PetsWhen I am frustrated, I play with my pets. The innocence of pets always helps me feel better thus getting rid of my frustration. |
| 7 Tips on Celebrating a Birthday … Posted: 04 Feb 2011 12:14 AM PST With neighbors being few and far between and friends being located all over the world, it's hard to have a birthday party where everyone is able to attend. Despite the lack of geographical closeness between my friends and I, there are still some good ideas I've come up with in regards to birthday celebrations. Here are 7 tips on celebrating a birthday for you to use. 7. Invite everyone over for game nightVintage games are the best, but not everyone has the original version of Tiddlywinks or Twister tucked away in a closet. The number of multi-player games is endless. You could even have tournaments for specific games. If you aren't into board games, then find out if any of your friends have an old Atari or Nintendo game system. Even though the newer game systems blow these two machines right out of the water in terms of graphics, they are still great for hours of enjoyment between friends. 6. Set up a drive-in movie night in your own backyardIf you happen to have a projector or know of someone who will loan theirs to you, creating a drive-in movie atmosphere is easy. You don't have to have people sit in their cars, but maybe they could come by bicycle or even just sit on the lawn and enjoy a movie projected on a large white sheet that is hung between a couple of trees. Pop a ton of popcorn or have friends bring their favorite type of candy and soda. 5. Have a potluckThere's something fun and simple about a potluck feast. It could be brunch, lunch, dinner, or maybe a midnight potluck gathering. This is a great way to gather together those you care most about and not have to come up with a way to feed everyone. I've always found potluck feasts to be exciting, since you never know what someone will bring. You could even have a potluck where each person brought their favorite dessert instead of a main dish. Talk about sugar overload! |
| 7 Tips for Keeping Your Purse Clean … Posted: 04 Feb 2011 12:08 AM PST I have a confession to make: my purse is a huge mess. I can never find anything in it, ever. I just got a new purse for Christmas, and it’s already filled to the brim with a lot of junk I will never need. Purses get cluttered and they get outwardly dirty as well. So here are 7 tips for keeping your purse clean – hope they help! 1. OrganizationFirst up, you have to start by organizing. Find a place for everything, make sure you don’t have anything you need, get rid of what you don’t. Like, if you have lint and tobacco covered gum lingering in the bottom of your bag, you’re probably never going to need it. Just buy some more good! 2. Proper SizeSometimes the size of your purse plays a part in the ease with which it becomes messy. If your bag is too small, you might be trying to stuff too much into it. If it’s too large, however, you might try to put your whole life into it, which makes it difficult to find what you actually need when you really need it. 3. Wash It UpIn terms of purses that are actually dirty, you can usually get them clean with just a little bit of soap and water. Sometimes where you put your purse makes a difference as well, so be careful where you put your purse down. Like, I always end up stepping on mine in the car, so it gets dirtier than it would otherwise. |
