7 Winter Beauty Issues and Their Fixes …

Winter is a hard season. It’s cold, it can be dangerous, it can get depressing. Certainly, it’s awful for your skin, your hair, your lips. Winter can be like beauty’s worst enemy, but you don’t have to suffer from that. Check out these 7 winter beauty issues and their fixes, to see if they can’t help you.

1. Sallow Skin

A lot of people, myself included, suffer from sallow complexions in the winter. It’s because you lose moisture in the winter, which causes dead skin cells to stack up on your skin. Dermabrasion is the best answer to this problem. Whatever product you choose – and there are a great many out there – just make sure you choose something that will refine your skin, get rid of those dead cells, and keep the new cells hydrated.

2. Washed Out Complexion

Winter can also wash you out, leaving you looking pale and even sickly. The answer to this problem is a crazily quick fix. All you need, in fact, is a little bit of blush, right on the apple arcs of your cheeks. In winter, it’s best to choose a shade of pretty pink or something peachy, that will work with your overall complexion. Blush will brighten your whole face, even your eyes.

3. Rough Spots

Another skin issue in the wintertime involves rough spots and patches on your skin. They come about when your skin gets too dry, which in turn leaves it really uneven. That can be almost impossible to cover up; it seems like foundation just calls attention to it. All you need to do here is, of course, keep moisturized, but you should also choose a foundation with a formula that has a hydrating base, so it will hydrate your skin as you are wearing it.

7 Uses for Baby Oil …

7 Uses for Baby Oil …

I love baby oil. I love the way it smells and I love its texture – as long as I don’t goof up and use too much with whatever I’m doing, of course. But did you know that babies aren’t the only ones who can benefit from this soft, silky, sweet smelling oil? There are dozens of additional ways it can be used, but here are my top 7 uses for baby oil!

1. Keeping Warm

No fake, jake; baby oil can help keep you warm when the weather is cold. All you have to do is rub it into your skin before getting dressed to go out. The reason for this is because the oil actually seals up your pores, which creates your very own insulation. Now, I don’t know that I would recommend this all the time, because your pores need to be open, but if you’re going to be out in the weather, walking around outside, and so on, this is definitely a good idea – just make sure to shower when you get home!

2. DIY Lubrication

This does not mean what it looks like it means! Although … well, yeah, anyway, you can use baby oil to lubricate squeaky doors, cabinets, et cetera, if you don’t have any WD40 or anything like that. If you have a zipper that sticks, a little baby oil along the teeth will help you out as well.

3. Getting Rid of Gum

Did you ever get gum stuck to or in anything? When I was a kid, I had an uncanny knack for getting gum stuck in my hair, and out would come the ice, or the peanut butter, or the scissors. However, baby oil does the job just fine. It can get come off your skin or off of a surface – like if anyone you know has a tendency to stick gum under your table or something like that.

7 Reasons Why Being an Economist is Great… …

7 Reasons Why Being an Economist is Great… …

LOL! I don't want to blow my own horn here, but being an economist does feel kind of cool at times. Now, having to drag myself through 1500 pages of Corporative Law definitely isn't one of those times but never mind. There are times when I actually feel proud for choosing Economy as a subject I want to become an expert in. Times like these, for example:

1. You'll always be able to find a job

Economists are like cockroaches – not even a nuclear war could stop us doing our thing. As long as people exist, money or its equivalents will exist too and when there is money, there will be people willing to act as intermediaries and manipulate it. Now, this is way too simplified but I'm sure you understand the point.

2. You actually understand what people on TV are talking about

You understand the charts and diagrams, terms people use and long term prognosis famous economy experts make. That alone is a great thing because you are able to get the most out of the information provided. However, how you use that information is what counts the most. You'll be able to tell if the near future will bring positive or negative financial trends and you'll be able to tell when is a good time to spend and when is a good time to save. Freshly printed bills make you worried because you know that's not a good thing – you know the government is pumping more money into the system and you know the prices are going to go up soon too.

3. You can tell if a politician is lying

Politicians often use difficult words and phrases in order to make their speech sound more pro. When people hear that they usually thing "Okay, this guy definitely knows what he's talking about". Well, that's just the thing about knowing the matter – you can just tell if a person it's faking it. And they often say pretty funny stuff too! Is there anything funnier than listening to somebody use a bunch he himself doesn't understand?

8 Sleep Mistakes You Could be Making …

8 Sleep Mistakes You Could be Making …

Though we may not realize it, mistakes that we make before and during sleep are affecting the proper sleep our bodies should be getting, and are therefore affecting our overall health. What mistakes are you making when it comes to your sleep? Come and see for yourself!

1. Not Being Consistent With A Sleeping Pattern

Here is a sleep mistake I’m guilty of. I tend to go to bed really late one night, then early the next hoping to make up for lost sleep the night before. According to Dr. Frank Lipman, this does me no good. Being inconsistent with your sleeping patter will affect your body’s rhythms and patterns, and can create more insomnia problems to deal with. What we should be doing it sticking with a certain time to go to bed and a time to get up. This will help to regulate your body in a way that it knows when to release serotonin and when to get your waking hormones up.

2. Taking Long Naps

It’s ok to take a 20 or 30-minute nap if it’s before 4 p.m. However, napping for longer periods of time will (again) affect your body’s sleeping pattern. So remember, no napping after 4! Save it for bedtime!

3. Not Preparing Your Body For Sleep

It is unrealistic and completely crazy to go directly from being busy around the house to immediately going to sleep. Our body needs time to unwind and gear down, so to speak. About an hour before bedtime, (which is ideally around 10 p.m.) turn off all electronics, and dim the lights. Do something relaxing like taking a bath, doing to yoga, or reading. As your body begins to relax, you will find that you’re more apt to go to sleep faster, and rest will be much more fulfilling.

8 Good TV Shows for Kids …

With Saturday morning cartoons being a thing of the past, there seems to be very little on television for kids, unless you subscribe to cable or have some other form of paid television. I've done some research and found that a few suitable kids' shows still exist. Here are 8 good TV shows for kids. I think most of them can even be tolerated by adults too!

8. Hannah Montana

Reruns of this television series for kids can be seen on the Disney Channel. Most people are very familiar with the concept behind this kids' show. The story revolves around a junior high school student who is also a rock star but doesn't want anyone to know it. She wears wigs and changes outfits so that no one knows who she actually is. There is a lot of singing and pre-teen antics that go on in this series, which kids tend to find rather exciting.

7. Team Umizoomi

Nick Jr. offers a show for preschool aged children that incorporate the use of math. I like how this show demonstrates how math is everywhere in the world. This animated series creates a world that is filled with color, patterns, and three lively characters; Geo, Bot, and Milli. The streets are paved with origami and the scenes are brightly colored to attract the attention of little kids.

6. The Suite Life of Zack and Cody

The twin boys in this Disney series for kids reside in a hotel in Boston. They are quite the trouble-making pair, which is what most of the episodes involved. Kids can still catch reruns on the Disney Channel and enjoy watching Zack and Cody get into and out of trouble at the Tipton Hotel.

7 Things You Should Know About Subliminal Messages …

Subliminal messages are everywhere. You can try to keep track of them and even avoid them, but this is an impossible task. They are found in cartoons, ads, self-help tapes, and so much more. Here are 7 things you should know about subliminal messages. If you’ve heard of something different than what is listed below, please feel free to add it in the comment section.

7. Many Disney cartoons have subliminal messages in them

Some of them are based on hearsay, but others can be seen with the naked eye. For instance, there is a scene in Aladdin where he supposedly mutters the words 'Take off your clothes' to Jasmine. On the cover of The Little Mermaid there is a phallic image drawn into the picture of the castle. This was supposedly drawn by an artist who wasn't happy with his job. There is a scene in the 70s version of The Rescuers where a nude woman can be seen in the window behind the two main characters in the movie. The movie was actually recalled because of this scene.

6. Using subliminal messages in advertising isn't illegal

Even though companies can supposedly entice you to buy their product through the use of subliminal messaging, this doesn't mean they can be made illegal. It's not their fault that you have a weak will and feels the need to give in and buy their products! It does sound a bit like they are tricking people without them knowing it though, doesn't it?

5. Subliminal messages are used in many self-help recordings

Tony Robbins, Steven Spielberg, and Tiger Woods have all used recorded subliminal messages to boost their self esteem and help them become successful. Supposedly the messages give them the strength to believe in themselves. Some of these self-help recordings are used to help people stop smoking and to kick various other habits as well.

10 Reasons to Stay Home on Friday Night …

Friday night is the official end of the work week, the kick-off to the weekend. Why would you ever want to stay home on a Friday night? Actually there are numerous reasons to stay home on Friday nights, some to do with family time and some to do with personal time. What follows are just a few reasons for staying home on Friday nights.

1. Family time

Perhaps the most important reason to stay home on a Friday night is to spend time with your family. Gather the kids, your spouse and some finger food and spend the night in watching TV or videos. Play family games or get reacquainted with each other over the bar-be-que.

2. Time for significant other

Friday nights are perfect for spending special time with your partner. After the workweek you are both ready to unwind and get caught up. If you have kids, send them to grandma or to their friend's house for an overnight stay. Take this time for yourselves to get reconnected.

3. Budget

Today many of us are pinching our pennies and as a result our entertainment budget has shrunk. One way to lower our entertainment expenses is to plan evenings at home rather than out on the town. It is much less costly to rent a video and make popcorn at home than to go to a movie theater.

7 Reasons Why I Love Social Networking Sites …

Social Networking sites burst on the scene a few years ago and have now become our lifeblood. Whether you hate it or love it, most people are part of it. It offers a number of benefits and is really easy to use while still maintaining your anonymity to the general public. You can find out more about your favorite celebrities, interest groups and generally get connected to people all over the world. Here are 7 reasons why I love social networking sites.

1. It keeps me connected to everyone

Since practically everyone is on some social networking site, by signing in yourself, you get a chance to stay connected to everyone. You can see what your old school friends are up to, what they look like and what they do for a living. You can find an old flame and see if he or she is dating anyone. It allows you to keep in touch and keep track of everyone.

2. It is easy to invite people for events

Social Networks have a tool that allows you to invite other users for an event. You are required to provide a short description of the event and add your list of invitees. The invitee can then decide if he or she is attending by choosing the appropriate option. They can also check who the other invitees are and the attendance status.

3. I can share photos in a cinch

This is perhaps the best part about a social network. It allows me to share photos and videos with everyone I know without having to send massive emails. All I have to do is upload them onto the social media website and all my friends can now view them. There are additional tools like tagging each photo with the person's name.

7 Amazing Heels That I Could Never Walk In …

I'm not the most graceful of ladies in a pair of heels. Perhaps it's because I'm a fast walker or that I stomp without the least bit of effort, but my heels take – and give the ground – quite a beating.

Regardless, I'm not giving up on the promise of a little extra height. But with these amazing shoes listed below, I just know there will be walking problems if I attempt to strut in them:

1. Kors Michael Kors – Suede Slingback Clogs

Kors Michael Kors – Suede Slingback Clogs
Price: $250.00 net-a-porter.com
Call me a fashion hypocrite, but I hate clogs; it's a heel that I think will just never look attractive on me. But these wedge slingbacks from Michael Kors make me want to strut to the dark side. That said, this shoe has four things that I fear most in shoes: a) a sling back, b) clog (see above), c) a wood bottom and d) a wedge heel. Talk about a high-heel accident waiting to happen!

2. Brian Atwood Dante

Brian Atwood Dante
Price: $640.00 net-a-porter.com
Measuring at a tall 5.5 inches, these knockout heels from Brian Atwood really are the devil's work. Hence, the name Dante, I presume. While I would definitely feel hot wrapped in these nude-and-black-sheer pumps, I'm a bit terrified of my time running out with the hourglass heel.

3. Versace Dvea

Versace Dvea
Price: $1.125 net-a-porter.com
Let's just pretend for a moment that I could afford these. Then, let's talk about the 7-inch heel and 3-inch platform. Or that a multi-colored, crisscrossed cage buckles your foot in. All of those aforementioned topics are provoking me to fall flat on my face. Or… well, my you-know-what. I'll keep these on the shelf because they are absolutely gorgeous to look at. But will require an extra insurance policy to wear.

When I was little, my mother collected little mushroom accessories for every room in our house, and I would spend hours playing with them, making mini forests for my pretend deer and squirrels and bears. 7 Ways to Strengthen Your Nails …

Until just a few years ago, I bit my fingernails a lot. They were in awful shape, and even when I would stop biting them, they would grow in so weak and brittle that it was just a matter of time before I started doing it again. For anyone who suffers from weak nails for any reason, I hope these 7 ways to strengthen your nails can help you!

1. Lemon Juice & Olive Oil

You can create a mixture out of really easy to find ingredients, lemon juice and olive oil, to fortify your nails. All you need is a few drops of the juice and about a tablespoon of the olive oil. Then all you have to do is rub the mixture right onto/into your fingernails. It’s best to follow this up by pulling on some plain what cotton gloves. Ideally you should do this at night, because then you can leave the gloves on while you sleep! If you do this two times a week, your nails will soon be much stronger.

2. Cayenne

Red pepper can help give you red hot nails. This mixture is really potent, though, so be careful. Take about ten drops of cool water, a teaspoon of cream, and half a teaspoon of cayenne. This mixture gets smeared onto and rubbed into your fingernails, and stays there for about 15 or 20 minutes. I recommend using gloves for this one too, just because of the ingredients. Whatever you decide to do, don’t rub your eyes! And this is a method you should only use about once a month.

3. Lemon Juice & Salt

As you can see, lemon juice can have a great effect on your fingernails. This time, you want to mix it with salt – just a pinch will work, with a tablespoon of lemon juice. Using a brush, apply the mixture to your nails and let it sit for 15-20 minutes. You can try this technique several times a week – 2-3 is a good bet.
