| Posted: 12 Feb 2011 11:57 AM PST Not being able to walk or even move when awake is called sleep paralysis. Personally, I have never dealt with this problem and I hope I never have to. Surely, at least one person reading my blog right now has had sleep paralysis before. An individual may have this when they try to wake up from their sleep. It can also cause trouble to breathing and lots of pressure on the chest. Many have nightmares because of this condition. Below, I am going to give you 7 facts on sleep paralysis. 7. Main SymptomThe main symptom of this condition is losing awareness in the body as you slowly go to sleep. I know this symptom sounds scary to me. I couldn't imagine not being able to move. 6. TeenagersFor years, studies have been conducted on sleep paralysis. I was reading a study just the other day that said teenagers may experience sleep paralysis more frequently. 5. PercentageThroughout the world, many suffer from the symptoms of sleep paralysis. It is said that about forty percent of the population in the world have reported suffering from this condition. Many experience it at least once in their life. |
| 8 Worst Things to Say to Someone Who Just Got Laid Off … Posted: 12 Feb 2011 11:32 AM PST When someone gets laid off of work, there are certain things that are said that you really should not of said. I do not know about you, but personally, I am always careful with the things I say, especially in harsh situations like these. I am going to give you 8 worst things to say to someone who just got laid off … 8. "So What"So what? Is this really something you should say to that person? I mean, if they are your friend or family member who is telling you about their problem, then this term is going to sound as if you do not care or as if it is no big deal. To them, it is a big deal – they just got laid off. 7. "Was There a Lot of Stuff to Clean Out?"Oh come on, you can't be kidding me. This is not a joking situation. So what if there was a lot of stuff to clean out. What does this matter? 6. "Have You Applied for Unemployment?"This is assuming that they are even going to apply for unemployment in the first place. Some people do not take unemployment. Some surely do not want to jump right in there and grab it up. |
| Posted: 12 Feb 2011 10:57 AM PST Showing your partner – or your best friend, or your mom or dad, or anyone special to you – is important. You don’t always need words or big, overt gestures to do it, either. Sometimes old standards work beautifully and sometimes it pays to try something new and innovative instead. Here are 10 ways to show your love that might pique your interest. 1. FlowersFlowers may be a standard choice, but they are still a great way to show your love for just about anybody. Sure, flowers die, but choosing your loved one’s favorite flowers and surprising him or her is still a fantastic way to show you care. You can always go with silk flowers as well, if you want them to last forever. 2. A Love LetterYou might think this option only works for a boyfriend or girlfriend, a lover, a partner, a spouse – and it is certainly great for romantic partners. However, a little change in tone and content, and you can write a letter to show your love to your BFF as well, your favorite cousin, your mom, your grandfather. Dropping a letter to let someone know you care is an excellent idea, and it often means so very much. 3. A GameYou can make a game out of things, perhaps by leaving little post-it notes that contain hints leading to … oh, anything, really! This is great for a romantic treat. Your hints can be things like, "Where did we go for our first date?" or "The place where you lost your shoe on Valentine’s Day." You know, things that are special to the two of you. |
| Posted: 12 Feb 2011 10:31 AM PST Buying a gift for the average dad can sometimes be a challenge. Unless they have a definite interest like hunting, fishing or golfing, you can find yourself wandering the store aisles for hours trying to decide on a gift. Is your dad sentimental? Does he drink coffee? Is he a man who is proud to be an American? If you answered yes to any of these questions, I have some gift ideas for you! (And even if you didn’t answer yes, I may still have ideas for you as well!) 1. Do You Have A “Do-it-your-self” Dad?
Photo Credit: ICycle Sg ™(hp:90270214 / 90270241) Is your dad the one who tries to fix everything around the house? If so, get his am nice tool set, or a subscription to Family Handyman. Another good idea for a dad like this is to get him a season of “Home Improvement” 2. Is Your Dad a History Buff?
Photo Credit: Hannaford If you dad is into history and the romance of the past, try one of these gift ideas. There are many DVD documentaries like “10 Days That Unexpectedly Changed America”, and “John Adams”. Many books on history are another great idea for history loving dads, such as Character: Profiles in Presidential Courage, Boom! (A series of personal memories of Tom Brokaw’s in the 60′s) and My Fellow Americans. For the dad who likes ties, there is a really beautiful tie with the signatures of our founding fathers on it! 3. The ‘Man Cave’ Dad
Photo Credit: etsy.com If your dad has his own special area or “man cave” you can find all sorts of things. I like the idea of a homemade wooden plaque with “(your father’s name)’s Man Cave” or whatever he calls his area. There are so many options for a dad like this. Another favorite of mine is a nice dart set or even a series of “Psych” |
| 7 Types of Women I Find Quite Annoying … Posted: 12 Feb 2011 10:31 AM PST Irritating types of personalities can be found in both male and female forms but I have to say that I've met my fair share of pretty strange persons that were all females. These pieces of work present themselves as close friends and expect you're going be spending an awful lot of time with them. The strangest thing about them is that they seem quite normal at, before you know it, you're stuck with an irritating person you can't have a decent conversation with. These are the most frequent types of those annoying females I've had the "luck" to meet: 1. Compliment junkies
Photo Credit: Bill Cammack A compliment junkie always finds something to complain about hoping that you'll say, "Oh, come on, don't be silly, you look great!" I mean, if I spend two hours fixing my hair, I definitely don't plan on going around saying how it looks terrible just so somebody would feel sorry for me and give me a compliment. These girls complain about the most ridiculous things, in the most ridiculous time – they will insist on the fact that their hair is dirty, even if you can clearly tell that same hair has been washed less than 6 hours ago. They will show up all dressed up saying how they probably look like a mess because they've grabbed the first thing out of the closet. Now, this can be quite annoying, at least in my opinion. I used to try to prove them they are wrong but nowadays I just say, "Oh, don't worry, sweetie, it's going to better next time" and, believe it or not, this little evil trick works. 2. Competitive freaks
Photo Credit: mikebaird A competitive freak just can't stand the thought of somebody else being better than her. And this goes for just everything! She'll keep bragging about her "horse" and completely ignoring everything you have to say. Now, this is a mild form which you may and may not find very annoying but, if you let her "grow a pair of wings", you can expect the things to get much worst. You see, she will restrain herself from saying anything bad about your accomplishments but, once she figures out she can do whatever she wants, spiteful comments will follow. |
| Posted: 12 Feb 2011 10:15 AM PST Celebrities put their name to perfumes, fashion lines and all kind of merchandise, with varying results. Often it is suspected that they have little real involvement. Here are some celebs that have ventured into makeup, some with more credibility than others … 1. Iman
Photo Credit: fashionrollcall.com Iman may well have been the first celebrity to launch a makeup range. In doing so, the model was not simply trying to lend her name, but was offering a solution to the problems faced by many black women in finding the correct colours for their skin, as she herself had experienced the same difficulty. 2. Nicola Roberts
Photo Credit: fanpop.com Nicola, of UK band Girls Aloud, had the same problem, but for a different reason. Being extremely pale-skinned, she too found it difficult to find makeup to match her skin tone. The answer was to design her own range, Dainty Doll. At last, the answer for those of us who are too pale even for the palest foundations! 3. Beverley Knight
Photo Credit: thesun.co.uk Singer Beverley created K by Beverley Knight for the same reason as Iman – to offer the products designed for darker skin tones missing in the market. Who better to know what is needed for black women than one who has experienced the same difficulties? |
| Posted: 12 Feb 2011 10:14 AM PST We've all got our favorite Little Black Dress, the slinky or frilly number that makes us look and feel like a superstar, flattering and fetching. Ah, but what about the skirt version, a Little Black Skirt? Keep two or three of them in your closet, and you'll never be stuck for something to wear on date night or Monday at the office. Allow me to explain… here are 7 Little Black Skirts. 1. Encore, Encore Skirt
 2. Sweet Treat Skirt in Licorice
 3. Counting Chic Skirt

| 9 Cool Movies to Watch This Valentine’s Day … Posted: 12 Feb 2011 09:57 AM PST February 14th will be here before I know it. There are tons of movies that remind me of this lovely time of year, even if they weren't specifically created for that particular day. I've made a list of 9 cool movies to watch this Valentine's Day, in case you're looking for something to enjoy while you snuggle up on the couch with your sweetie. 9. Say AnythingAlmost everyone has seen or at least heard about the most famous scene in this movie. You know the one: Lloyd Dobler stands outside of Diane Court's home and blares the song, In Your Eyes by Peter Gabriel on a boom box in order to woo Miss Court. There's a little bit of family drama included in this movie, so it isn't totally about two people defying the odds and trying to be together, as so many romantic dramas are. 8. While you were SleepingYes, this is a rather odd love story. Lucy Moderatz pretends to be involved romantically with a man whom she's been watching as he commutes on the train each day. Peter Callaghan falls into a coma after two muggers push him onto the tracks. Lucy rescues Peter and goes with him to the hospital where she is mistakenly taken to be his fiancée. The funny part is that Lucy doesn't deny being Peter's fiancée. I won't give any more away, just in case you haven't seen it. This is one of those great romantic comedies that are able to make me laugh and say, 'Awwwww'. 7. The Princess BrideI know this isn't your typical Valentine's Day flick, but you have to admit that it is romantic in an odd sort of way. There's humor, wit, sarcasm, romance, and love all rolled into one crazy flick. How often do you get to see a movie that has both Billy Crystal and Andre the Giant in it? This has always been one of my favorite movies anyway, so why not include it in my list of cool movies for Valentine's Day. |
| 7 Things to Know Before Car Shopping … Posted: 12 Feb 2011 09:44 AM PST If you're in the market for a new car, there are a few things you should know before you go. Yes, it's a good idea to think about which make or model you might want, but there are some other things to consider, some other details to hash out before you take that first test drive or even set foot in a show room. Here are 7 things to know before car shopping. 1. BudgetFirst and foremost, you need to know how much you'll be able to spend on a car, including a down payment and monthly lease or purchase fees. Also consider how much you can spend on gas (so think about fuel efficiency) and insurance. We'll talk more about insurance later, but have at least a rough idea of how much you can spend, in total, every month. 2. Credit scoreDid you know a less-than-stellar credit rating can mean higher loan interest rates for you, if you can get a loan at all? That's why it's so important to know your credit score — not just the number, but what's on the report itself. If there are mistakes, which there are actually a lot of, you need to know so you can have them repaired before you car shop… or you may end up paying a lot more. 3. Driving habitsHow and where and when will you be driving this car? To work and back only? Or for pleasure on the weekends? Mostly highway, or lots of city? Will you be using it to move large, heavy equipment, or just for carting the kids and groceries around? Consider your driving habits and needs, then start shopping. |
| Posted: 12 Feb 2011 09:31 AM PST I’m not one for sappy songs about love and romance, but there are a few songs about such topics that I truly enjoy. 7 of my favorite love songs are listed below. Each one has a description about why it has made my list of favorites. I never realized how many love songs I actually liked until I made this list! 7. You Are so Beautiful – Joe CockerThis has to be one of the slowest and sappiest love songs ever, but I can't keep from listening to it. I'm not usually one for sappy songs, but I can actually tolerate this one and listen to it the whole way through. I figured I needed to add in at least one sappy song to my list. 6. Died in Your Arms Tonight – Cutting CrewYep, middle school dance floors filled whenever this song was played. This song definitely makes me think of how much fun middle school dances were. Sure, most of them were spent waiting and wondering if I was going to be asked to slow dance by a cute boy in the crowd, but they were also filled with excellent dancing moments with my gal pals. 5. Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman – Bryan AdamsI think this is one of the sexiest songs ever. Bryan Adams actually has quite a few tunes that I would consider to be love songs, but this one is my favorite. I remember hearing it on the movie Don Juan DeMarco. Who better to play Don Juan then Johnny Depp! Excellent song for an excellent movie. |
| 7 Tips For Budgeting Your Finances … Posted: 12 Feb 2011 09:19 AM PST With our economy still in a wreck and unemployment rates at an all time high, it is important for people to budget their finances.  My tips for budgeting your finances are designed for those of which have no idea how to budget and or have no time to figure out a budget. For us to stay in control of our finances it’s very important that we stick to a set budget! Here are 7 Tips For Budgeting Your Finances. 1. Make It A PriorityIf you’re a procrastinator like me, making it a priority to set your budget is one of the most important things in budgeting your finances. If you tip toe around setting your budget you’re often going to find yourself out of money, unable to make purchases you desire, or worst case scenario unable to pay for things that are a necessity. I cannot stress enough the importance of making your budget and finances one of your top priorities. 2. Make A List Of Your IncomeIn able to budget your finances you’re going to have to first figure out your total income. If you’re single or married make a list of all of the income that will be used for paying for the bills and necessities. On the list make sure to include the dates of when said income is being paid. Marking the dates next to the income will help you in adding a time frame to your budgeting calendar. 3. Make A List Of Your BillsIt is important to know which bills need to be paid and when they are due when you’re budgeting your finances. So you have your list of income for your household now you need to figure out your list of bills and dates they are due. Compare your list of your income with your list of your bills. Figure out which days you are going to pay which bills making sure that you are paying your bills on time and not leaving yourself completely broke. |
| 7 Annoying Habits to Quit in 2011 … Posted: 12 Feb 2011 09:01 AM PST It's a new year and what better time than now to quit all those annoying habits you hate yourself for having. Instead of all the usual new resolutions about starting something like going on a diet or meeting old friends, why not try giving up something. Here are 7 annoying habits you can give up in 2011. 1. Watching Annoying Reality TV ShowsReality TV has taken American women by storm and every time we turn on the TV there's a new idiotic version for us to get addicted to. What is it about real people and their not so real lives that captivate us? Whatever the reason, its time to quite being a reality TV addict and start watching the news or something. Let's spare our men the torture. 2. Gossiping with the GirlfriendsNo matter how much we try to deny it, women really love to gossip. We like to talk about who's doing what, where and with whom. We like to add a little comment here and there to spice it up and swear that we hold no judgment. The fact is that there is so much more to talk about, topics that won't leave us feeling so lousy by the end, so lets try to quit the gossiping. 3. Nagging the HusbandLet's fact it, no matter how much you want him to change, your husband is probably going to hang on to all those annoying habits you hate. So stop nagging him incessantly to put away his socks and clean up after himself. If you really want him to pull his weight, try some other innovative techniques involving subtle manipulation and threats. |
| Posted: 12 Feb 2011 08:51 AM PST Right now, the festive season is not my friend. Don't get me wrong, I loved every minute of the dinners and drinks parties while they were happening, but now that they're over, I'm sort of regretting all those tasty treats. It's like being in a giant, post-holiday sugar crash and, trust me girls, it's not all that fun – I mean who can feel good after eating only cake for a month?! Some of you ladies must be in the same boat here. If you, like me, are in the post-festive slump, take my advice and blow the dust off those training shoes … 1. It's CheapExercise can be expensive. A gym contract costs hundreds every month, and while there are advantages to training with professionals in a facility, we have to weigh up how these pros balance out against the cons – particularly in times like these when money is tight. Running round the block costs you nothing and works just as well – trust me – as half an hour on the treadmill. 2. It's StimulatingRunning outside is an entirely different experience from slogging along on the machines in a gym. There are things to look at – scenery and people – and you have the opportunity to select a different route when your ordinary circuit gets boring. There's a sense of freedom that comes with a jog through the park and this makes going for a run about more than just toning up that butt. 3. ImmediacyIf, like me, you've got yourself into a festive season rut, making the decision to start training again can be hard. After all, from where you're sitting on the couch with your holiday treats, getting up alone seems like a lot of work. Doing exercise on purpose? Now that sounds plain crazy. Going for a run just means getting out your front door and moving those feet, while trekking to the gym can be put off for ages. |
| Posted: 12 Feb 2011 03:16 AM PST I'm very health-conscious, careful about what I eat, but I do have one weakness, and that, my dear, is soda. I know it's not good for me, but I'm helpless to resist its bubbly, often caffeinated, charms. Lately I've made the switch from standard soda (like Coke or Pepsi) to less damaging natural or organic sodas, and now I'm even more addicted. Here are 7 delicious natural sodas, my Kryptonite. 1. Jones Soda, Green Apple
 2. Blue Sky Organic New Century Cola
 3. Santa Cruz Organic Sparkling Beverage, Pomegranate Limeade

| 7 Plans for the Perfect Valentine’s Day … Posted: 12 Feb 2011 12:00 AM PST Valentine’s Day is going to be here before you know it. I almost always get caught with no plans made, as if I haven’t noticed it on the calendar for the past 364 days. I am determined not to do that this year. I mean, I managed to finally get all my holiday shopping and planning done ahead of time, there’s no reason I can’t do the same thing here, right? In case you find yourself in the same boat, maybe the following 7 plans for the perfect Valentine’s Day will be able to help you out a little! 1. Dinner CruiseThis may sound expensive, but you wouldn’t believe how easy it is to luck out and find a really affordable dinner cruise. Now, in some parts of the world, it’s maybe not such a great idea to do this in February – but sometimes you also luck out and find an enclosed boat, which can be even more romantic. 2. Picnic in the ParkAgain, admittedly maybe not the best choice for February, but this is unquestionably romantic. The Better Half is always gung ho for a picnic in the park – even in the winter. As soon as we get a sunny day, we are out there, so technically, you can pull this off even in February. There are lots of alternatives if you can’t manage it, but trust that a picnic is always a good idea, even if it takes place inside. 3. Themed Valentine’s Day SurprisesDoes your Valentine have a favorite theme? Maybe he or she loves (ahem) Glee, or My Fair Lady, or, I don’t know, Rocky Horror Picture Show. The point is, pick one of your Valentine’s favorite things, and give him or her themed presents and surprises – or throw a themed party. Just make sure not to give them any inappropriate gifts in mixed company. That’s never a good idea. |
