| 7 Ways to Get Rid of a Guy . … Posted: 17 Feb 2011 11:08 AM PST With the right tips at mind, getting rid of a guy is not hard, so they say. I do know that there are certain guys, guys that will no go away, that can make the whole process hard. With this blog, I am not just focusing on boyfriends you want to dump, I am focusing on any guy you know. Let me give you my 7 ways to get rid of a guy … 7. Stare at Their Forehead During the Entire ConversationWhen that guy is talking to you, just stare at his forehead. Don't look anywhere else, except his forehead when he is talking. If he asks you what is wrong, just shake your head. Perhaps he will think you are strange and never want to go around you again. 6. Find Out Their Pet PeevesIf you know that guys pet peeves, then he will be in for a surprise. When you know his pet peeves, make sure you bring them to action. 5. Limit Your Availability Online and on the PhoneWhen he sees you online, he is going to try to message you, so make sure you appear offline to him. You could always appear offline and block him from ever seeing you online again. Apart from online, you also need to stay away from the phone. The message here is to get rid of any contact you may have. |
| 7 Signs That Your Boss Doesn’t Like You … Posted: 17 Feb 2011 10:48 AM PST We almost never get to decide who our immediate bosses are. Even if you don't like your boss, it is in your interest to be professional about it. But what can you do if your boss doesn't like you and how can you confirm your suspicion? Here are some signs that your boss doesn't like you and you need to watch out for these. 1. Thankless TasksDo you find that you are increasingly being given thankless tasks that nobody wants to do and will not help you in enhancing your career? Well, it is possible that your boss has decided to demean or demoralize you just because he doesn't like you. 2. Always NegativeDo you find that the only time your boss wants to talk to you is when he has something to complain about your performance? You haven't heard him say a positive thing about you to you or your colleagues in a very long time. On the other hand, most of your colleagues seem to know about every little mistake you have made. 3. Too Much WorkDo you find that you always have too much work on your hands? You are so piled with work that you can't even take every weekend off, forget about vacations. This is perhaps one of the strongest signs that your boss doesn't like you. |
| 7 Ways to Look Beautiful in a Minute … Posted: 17 Feb 2011 10:44 AM PST Have you ever been in such a hurry to get ready that you don’t have time to do anything to make yourself feel pretty? I am horrible with time management so that used to happen to me all the time. I’d feel so awful, and feel like I looked so awful, that I didn’t even want to go out. However, various little blurbs on some of my favorite guilty pleasure networks eventually taught me how unnecessary that is – along with showing me these 7 ways to look beautiful in a minute. 1. Let Your Hair Shine
You may not have time to style your hair, but that doesn’t mean it won’t look good. As a simple quick fix, try a shine serum or spray. A little spritz here and there will give your hair a brilliant shine, which can be all you need to make your ‘do look great. 2. Curly Eyelashes
You always have time to emphasize at least one feature, and your eyes are a great place to start. Although you might be too pressed to bother with the whole mascara routine, you can at least give your lashes a little curl. Eyelash curlers are notoriously scary looking but they’re easy to use and it only takes two seconds to give both sets of lashes a lovely little curl before you shoot out the door. 3. A Little Slick of Lipstick
Undoubtedly, a little color somewhere looks good. You can do this with just a quick slick of lipstick – or lip gloss, or lip balm, whatever your favorite is. A little swipe and blot and you’re done, with a focal point that can bright your smile, your face, and your eyes! |
| 8 Celebs with Great Fashion Sense … Posted: 17 Feb 2011 10:37 AM PST Being called a hot mess is just a fancy name for looking crappy. Well, luckily not all celebs enjoy being labeled this way so once we finally get tired of looking at Lindsay Lohan, Heidi Montag, Tila Tequila or Pam, we can always give our sore eyes a treat by browsing the pictures of the following, fashion-conscious celebs: 1. Angelina Jolie
Angie would look great in a potato sack, although I'm sure glad she's not crazy enough to actually wear one (Yeah, Lady Gaga, I'm looking at you now!) I love her to see her dressed casual and I love to see her in her glam red carpet clothes. Leather pants and bike jackets are so Angie and, yet, so are those fabulous feminine toga dresses. I really can't make up my mind and I know exactly why that is so – because she always knows what to wear and looks freaking amazing in any situation and any time of the day! 2. Kate Hudson
Kate has that natural beauty of the girl next door and a great style to match her lovely appearance. Some would say she got that from her mother, I'd say she has only herself to thank for it. Celebrity kids are very easy to turn slutty, wacky and needy and Kate seems so balanced and above it all. Her red carpet appearances make my jaw drop and I can't say anything less flattering about those paparazzo photos of her rocking those casual, everyday styles. 3. Kelly Osborne
Well, I don't know about you, but I'm totally loving the new Kelly! She has grown up to be a gorgeous young lady and I'm not talking about her weight loss only! I don't know what cause her do make such a dramatic change of style but I totally approve of it. Plus, she stayed true to herself in terms of making occasional walks on the wild side and trying to keep looking girly without resembling a cutie-cute, always dressed by-the-book Barbie doll. |
| Posted: 17 Feb 2011 10:28 AM PST One might argue that we are never really doing nothing at any point in our lives. But if you think about it, there is such a thing as moving calmly and unhurried through life as compared to constantly multi-tasking and being busy. I know many of us feel uncomfortable at the thought of slowing down and doing nothing but I believe that it is necessary to have a more fulfilled and relaxed life. Try out these activities for doing nothing. 1. Meditation/Breathing ExercisesAt first try, it can be hard to sit still to meditate or to perform breathing exercises. These activities are probably the ultimate ways of doing nothing. It really takes practice and determination if you want to do these things. You can start out with five minutes of meditation or breathing exercises each day then slowly increase the time as you see fit. 2. New Hobby: BumblingThis word "bumbling" has a different meaning from the modern connotation. Bumbling, as 19th-century French poets knew it, means "wandering around without purpose." Not everything in life needs to have a purpose or direction. Sometimes it's nice to do things just because. Bumbling teaches you that sometimes not having a direction or purpose is alright. It also teaches you to slow down when you walk so you can enjoy the sights. 3. Honor Your WeekendsWe become so engrossed with working and running our lives that we fail to take advantage of our weekends and days off. It's time that we try to stop doing things on some weekends. Get your to-do list off your mind, sit around, and enjoy doing nothing. |
| 7 Heart Health Tests You Should Have … Posted: 17 Feb 2011 10:02 AM PST Heart disease is the leading cause of death among women, taking more lives than all forms of cancer combined. While we remember to get our mammograms and PAP smears and other cancer screenings, why do we spend so little time and effort of the simple, painless tests to check the health of our hearts? As we get older, they become more and more important, but it's important to be aware of them at any age. Here are 7 heart health tests we should have. 1. Body Mass Index (BMI)One of the most accurate indicators of your potential for coronary heart disease is your weight — if you're overweight or obese, you're much more likely to have serious heart disease, and to die from it. Your physician may want to calculate your BMI to gauge if your weight is an issue. For adults, a healthy BMI is between 18.5 and 24.9. You're considered overweight if your BMI is higher than that… so this is an excellent way to measure your overall risk, though you can't assess your heart health on this calculation alone. 2. BloodA simple blood test can be done to check for blood sugar and cholesterol levels. If you have an abnormally high or low blood sugar measurement, or if your cholesterol is high, you're at a higher risk for heart disease. Sometimes, these can be lowered or moderated with dietary changes, but sometimes, a prescription medication may be required, too. 3. Blood pressure (hi causes stress on vascular system)If you have high blood pressure, you're putting undue stress on your vascular system, and on your heart. Again, sometimes dietary changes are enough to lower your blood pressure, but often, a medication therapy is helpful in addition to a new diet. |
| Posted: 17 Feb 2011 09:53 AM PST Have you ever just been in a funk? You might be simply down or honestly depressed, or simply suffering from a feeling of general malaise. Either way, it’s an awful feeling. It takes all your energy and seems to leech color and sensation out of the world at large. Fortunately, here are 7 ways to get out of a funk that can help you overcome those feelings. 1. Be Nice to Someone ElseSometimes you can make yourself feel better by making someone else feel better. Doing something kind for someone else or simply being nice to someone can be a great boost for you as well. After all, when you do good things, you feel good as well – especially if you are making someone else’s day brighter in the process. 2. Cook Something NewTrying a new recipe may seem a little silly if you’re in a funk, but think about it this way: successfully cooking something you’ve never made before can give you a serious feeling of accomplishment. Any time you do something successfully, it makes you feel better, makes you believe in yourself a little more. And cooking is therapeutic anyway, especially if you get to beat the hell out of eggs or something. 3. Get Rid of ClutterAgain, accomplishing something, no matter what it is, can get you out of a funk in no time. To that end, cleaning up your space and banishing clutter from your home and/or your life can be extremely helpful as well. When you stand back and see a job well done, it can lift you up out of your blue feelings. |
| 7 Types of Girls You Do Not Want to Be … Posted: 17 Feb 2011 09:42 AM PST I have listed types of guys you do not want to date on different blogs and right now, I want to give 7 types of girls you do not want to be. This is my personal list of girls that I am glad I am not … 7. Loud MouthThere is a point where you need to quiet the mouth. Sure, it's good to always have something to say, but when you are constantly carrying on about everything, even things that do not involve you, then that is the type of girl you do not want to be. You do not want to be that loud, obnoxious girl that sat 5 tables down from me the other day, yet I still heard her. My husband complains about the type of girls and I know many other guys that do the same. Sure, having fun is fun, but when it involves sharing your conversation with everyone else in a romantic restaurant, that is where you draw the line. 6. DepressingI understand that depression happens and you can't explain why. This is not what I am talking about. I am talking about the type of girl that always has a problem. If she does not have a problem, then she will look for one until she can find one. You don't want to be like this. 5. The Type That Cannot Care for HerselfThis is not the type of woman you want to come off as being. You do not want to look like you cannot take care of yourself. Personally, I do not think it is sexy to appear as if you are a kid. Men tend to like those that are independent. |
| Posted: 17 Feb 2011 09:26 AM PST The full-skirted trend took off in a big way last season. It's only bound to get bigger. Steering away from body con silhouettes, the full skirt is about being demure with a fun and flirty edge. Below are a few of my favourites. 1. River Island Lace Full Skirt
 2. ASOS midi knitted skirt with lace trim
 3. ASOS Check Full Skirt

| 7 Things NEVER to Post on Facebook … Posted: 17 Feb 2011 09:18 AM PST Don't get me wrong, I love Facebook. I love being able to stay in touch with friends and family, nearby and far away, and being able to share what's going on in my life with them. But there are a lot of things I see on Facebook that shock me, and I'm not talking about the videos of kittens skateboarding. There are so many things people post that they just shouldn't — they risk losing their jobs, their friends… not sure what I mean? Here are 7 things to NEVER post on Facebook (or anywhere else for that matter). 1. Nude photosThis is such a bad idea, for so many reasons. Never, ever post a nude photo of yourself (or anyone else) on your Facebook page. Imagine if your mother decides she wants to start using Facebook, and adds you… or what if she accidentally logs in as you? Eek! 2. Drunken photosThis one is almost certain to cost you a job! If a current or potential employer checks your Facebook to see what you're like in real life, and sees endless photos of you pole dancing with the girls on a Saturday night holding a bottle of Grey Goose, they might think twice about hiring you, or keeping you on the books… especially if they have an image to uphold. 3. Hate messagesFirst of all, don't be hateful. Second of all, even if you are, do you really want the world to hear your hateful, spiteful tirade? Again, this will only make you appear in a bad light, no matter how in-the-right you are about your ex or that guy at the coffee shop every morning. |
| 7 Ways to Know that He is Mr. Wrong … Posted: 17 Feb 2011 09:13 AM PST There is nothing worse than spending months invested in a relationship only to find out that the guy is not right for you. How disappointing and disheartening! Instead of wasting your time on a relationship that is doomed from the start, use these clues to discover if your current man is "the one." Here are seven ways to know if he is Mr. Wrong. 1. He hates your familyDo you really want to spend your life with a guy who can't stand your family? It is really important that he is able to get along with them and that they can accept him for who he is. If they don't get along, you might want to reconsider. After all, isn’t family forever? 2. Your friends don't like himYour friends know you better than anyone. If they think he is totally wrong for you, chances are that they are right. Listen to their opinions and then take their advice to heart. Ask why they dislike him, and truly listen to what they say. 3. You have nothing in commonIt takes more than love to build a future. If you have no common interests, what will happen in a few years when your initial passion begins to cool off? You need some common ground to sustain a relationship, like a common interest in books, music, or sky-diving. |
| 8 Things That Waste Your Precious Time … Posted: 17 Feb 2011 09:02 AM PST Most people say busy, stressful lifestyles are when makes us perceive time as much shorter as it was 10 or 20 years ago. I'd say the lack of organization skills along with all that stress and modern technology designed to help us have fun contributes our chronic lack of time. But it's not all black and white girls. It never is. So, here's a list of those things that waste our precious minutes and hours along with the tips on how to deal with them. 1. ComputerYou start by checking you mail and find yourself two hours later, still in the same position checking out random sites or Facebook profiles. Computer, or better yet Internet, is a potentially huge time waster! Yes, it's filled with great information and interesting stuff but you need to dose it and use it only when you have time to waste. Browsing through pages and pages of interesting stuff can be very entertaining, especially during those rainy or extremely cold evenings when you feel lucky to be at home. However, if you know you don't have any time to lose, check the basic things and quickly turn of the computer before you feel the need to start going deeper into things you've just seen. Bookmark interesting sites and visit them when you actually have the time to do so. 2. TVInteresting TV shows always start when you have plenty of things to do. And most people are always like, "Okay, just this one TV show and I'm going to get the things done". But after that TV show starts another one and another one and you spend a couple of hours glued to the TV and in desperate need of more hours to get your jobs done. 3. Long conversationsIf somebody calls you while you're in the middle of something, excuse yourself and tell that person you'll call her when you finish the thing you're doing. I didn't know how to do this at first and then I realized people usually call others when they finish their own jobs and have nothing to do. So I have a very enthusiastic, carefree chatter willing to keep blabbing for two hours and the only problem is that I NEED THOSE TWO HOURS. So, excuse me but, if you can't live with the fact that other people have lives, jobs and things to do too – find somebody else to bother! Right? |
| 10 Black Tie Appropriate Cocktail Dresses … Posted: 17 Feb 2011 09:00 AM PST The Dress Code — sometimes clearly defined, but oftentimes very vague. If one thing is guaranteed, it is that black tie events require a distinguished, classic attire. Because of this prerequisite and sometimes discerning eyes of partiers, dressing up can be conforming and quite boring amidst so many ankle-length dowdy gowns. Here are ten cocktail dresses that fulfill your RSVP requirement to be "up to code," while still looking trendy and chic. 1. ASOS Oversized Sequin Shift Dress
Beading and sequins instantly turn a mere work-appropriate outfit into a flirty cocktail dress. While classically appropriate from the front, your sexiness exudes when turning around to mingle, revealing an open back that will garner a lot of attention. Those hot philanthropists will be hitting on you in no time. 2. Maggy London One Shoulder Dress
If you're young, dressing for a black tie party can age you. And let's face it, your choice of outfit reflect that you might be the one who is the charity case. Show those donators that you can be mature for such an event and mingle accordingly in this Grecian-styled Maggy London frock. Its teal color and below-the-knee length is both age- and dress code-appropriate. 3. Elizabeth and James Silk Crepe Strapless Dress
This silk strapless dress from Elizabeth and James might be a bit of an investment piece for some budgets, but the payback from its multiple wears will be priceless. The pale – or "makeup" – color, is a must for all events, and the ruffled bodice and pleated leather waist will carry you from black tie to girls' night out clubbing in no time. |
| Posted: 17 Feb 2011 08:50 AM PST Certain celebrities suffer from the delusion that because they are successful in one field, they will achieve the same success in another. Usually, they are completely wrong. Here are some actors that have tried singing … I dare you to listen … 1. David HasselhoffThe Hoff is no great actor, that's for sure, so perhaps he attempted singing in the hope that he'd be better at it. The evidence suggests otherwise. Yet he was strangely successful in Germany. 2. Bruce WillisSlightly better than the Hoff, but then anything would be. If you are too young to remember the 80s, now is your chance to suffer along with those of us who heard this. |
| Posted: 17 Feb 2011 08:44 AM PST I would totally go back to Norway if I had the chance again. It was one of the best times in my life and I'm so glad that I got to share it with my oldest son. We made great friends and have tons of marvelous memories to last the rest of our lives. Here are my 7 reasons to love Norway. I'm sure part of the love I feel for this country derives from my Norwegian ancestry, but seeing it all first-hand truly enhanced this feeling. 7. The longest road tunnel is located in Norway
It is actually called the Lærdal Tunnel and it is more than 15 miles long. This lengthy tunnel runs between Oslo and Bergen. It is also one of the few tunnels that don't have a toll attached to it, which I was glad about! Every three miles or so, there is a wide opening that is sort of cave-like. This is an area that people can stop in and take a rest if needed. I liked seeing the blue lights located around the ceiling in these cave-like sections, but didn't feel the need to get out and smell the car exhaust that had accumulated in it. It was a neat tunnel to drive through! 6. Northern Lights
The northern lights are best when seen right above the Arctic Circle. There are other places in Norway where the mystical green swirling lights can be seen dancing across the sky. I saw these same green lights when I lived in Northern Wisconsin, but they seemed to be so much brighter in Norway and have more movement. 5. 24 hrs of daylight
Photo Credit: kaimp The summertime might be a difficult time for people who don't know how to adjust to having 24 hours of daylight, but I thought it was great fun! There's nothing like kayaking on the fjord at midnight in broad daylight. As long as you have dark curtains or an eye mask you can put on during the evening, you'll have no problem convincing yourself it's time to head to bed. |
| 7 Allergy Triggers You Should Know … Posted: 17 Feb 2011 08:34 AM PST Before learning allergy triggers, I believe it’s important to understand what an “allergy” is. An “allergy” is your body’s immune system over-reacting, perceiving harmless substances such as pollen and cat dander as malicious invaders, which triggers the body’s allergic reaction. Understand? Now, on to some things that can trigger allergies… 1. DrugsBelieve it not, drugs can actually be allergy triggers. Many people develop allergies to drugs such as penicillin and aspirin. The symptoms can range from mild to serious and may include itchy eyes, hives, congestion and swelling in the mouth and throat. The best thing to do of course is to avoid the drug altogether. Also, it’s always a safe bet to talk to your doctor and figure out if you have any drug related allergies to avoid unwanted scenarios in the future. 2. Dust MitesIf you spend a lot of time at home and appear to have pollen allergies all year long, you may have an allergy to dust mites. The symptoms of dust mite allergies are relatively the same as pollen allergies. Other than taking the basic allergy drugs to treat, you may also help to prevent by using dust mite covers on mattresses, getting hypoallergenic pillows, washing your sheets weekly in very hot water, and keeping your house as free of dust as one can. You should also keep your home humidity between 30% and 45% 3. MoldDid you know that molds are parasite fungi? They thrive on and in wet areas such as basements, bathrooms, outside in damp areas in the hay, grass and leaves! If you have an allergy to mold, stay away from consistently damp areas outside, and keep your home free of excess moisture. Keep your basements well ventilated! |
| Posted: 17 Feb 2011 08:24 AM PST Here is a list of 7 cool gadgets I like. I've come across so many more and it was very difficult to whittle my list down to only 7. However, here they are and I hope you enjoy reading about them too! Please let me know what you think about these and if you've come across any cool ones that you'd like to share as well. 7. 3D Television
If 3D movies aren't enough to satisfy your thirst for the world of 3D graphics, then why not buy a 3D television from Sony? With special 3D glasses in place, getting the full 3D effect is possible with this television. These TVs haven't completely flooded the market yet. Supposedly the cost for these machines will go down as more are produced. I can't wait until I can afford one! 6. Wind-up Flashlight and Radio
I've seen many emergency products that are either a radio or a flashlight powered by a crank, but not always both. Kaito makes a bright yellow 5 LED flashlight and radio combo that is perfect for emergencies. It runs for 10 minutes after being cranked for a full minute. There aren't any batteries to replace and the LED bulbs are extremely bright. Being yellow, I think I'd be able to find this little gadget much easier. 5. Comfort Garden Kneeler
There are many styles of these garden kneeler devices, but the one by Vertex looks the most promising to me. You'll have to simply check out the images of this amazing device. You can sit on it or sit and kneel at the same time. This might sound like an odd way to do some gardening, but it really makes weeding a more comfortable task. |
| 5 Color Schemes I Love for a Craft Room … Posted: 17 Feb 2011 03:47 AM PST Someday, I will have a craft room or studio in my house. A day will come when I will be fed up with getting a simple sewing corner; I will want a whole room to myself for whipping up anything that tickles my fancy. When that day comes, I will choose from among these color schemes to make my crafting space even more welcoming and just plain awesome. Here are the color schemes that fill my head when I daydream about finally having a craft room: 1. Red + Turquoise + White
Photo Credits: 1. Tricolor, 2. retro blue bird, 3. Turquoise Bedroom, 4. Red Table (10/365) This combination always makes me smile. There is just something about a wall painted in turquoise that makes me think of endless summer days. But the idea of a craft room with white walls sounds great to me as well. If I go with the latter for the overall paint, getting the right red table and turquoise cushions for the white couch will not be a problem. In fact, I can make the cushions myself using turquoise fabric in damask pattern. 2. Blue + White + Yellow + Aged WoodPhoto Credits: 1. home floor, 2. Wooden Bench on Blue Painted Concrete, 3. step, 4. Yellow and White This is a color scheme that reminds me of a beach cottage. The white will have that beach shack feel while the wooden parts will give off that treasured look. Add yellow in the form of curtains, sewing chair, and a huge inspiration board and my craft room will be pure haven! Having my actual house near the beach would be a great bonus. Can you imagine sewing while listening to the waves crashing to the shore? That would be perfection. |
