| 8 Advantages Of Vintage Style … Posted: 22 Feb 2011 12:07 PM PST I absolutely adore vintage clothes, and have quite a few garments in my wardrobe. Vintage is very popular these days, perhaps as a reaction to the uniformity of chain stores, with their racks of identical garments. Here are some advantages of adopting vintage style. 1. IndividualityIf you despair at how everyone seems to dress and look the same these days, vintage is the answer! It allows you to be truly individual, and while it might take some nerve to stand out from the crowd, a vintage queen will never look like anyone else. 2. QualityDoes it annoy you how poorly made some modern garments seem to be? Vintage clothes were made to last, rather than being seen as disposable fashion. So buying a vintage garment for the same price as something new will likely give you a lot more wear for your money. 3. FashionableFashion goes in cycles, so it is inevitable that retro looks will come back in at some point. If you're already wearing vintage, though, you're ahead of the pack, and you will look like a stylish fashion leader! |

Sometimes, though, and for some things, using a paper journal is just better. I'm always on the lookout for a unique journal, and I've found a trove of them lately at one of my favorite online shops. Here are 7 wonderful journals… 1. My Garden: A Five-Year Journal

| 7 Ways to Deal with Rude People at Work … Posted: 22 Feb 2011 11:25 AM PST I’ve had my fill of rude people in my lifetime. I can’t say I’ve handled all encounters with such individuals with the grace that I know I could have. I know there were a few times that I could have been a bit more tactful in the way I responded to their rudeness. If you have someone rude who you have to deal with on a regular basis or are just looking for ways to keep in mind for later, then take a look at the following list. Here are 7 ways to deal with rude people at work. Feel free to pass these tips on! 7. Stay away from themHopefully your office or workplace is large enough that you can avoid making contact with the person or people you consider to be rude. You don’t have to hide in the bathroom stall or duck behind the fake tree by the boss’s office to keep away from them. But try to limit the amount of time they will be near you so you don’t have to deal with their rudeness. Sometimes avoidance is a good thing. 6. Let them know they are being rudeIf walking in the opposite direction isn’t your thing, then maybe you could try confronting these rude beings. Honestly, there are some people who don’t think they are being rude. It takes someone telling these people that they truly are being rude for them to realize just how bad they are offending others with their rudeness. 5. Tell your boss if you can’t handle dealing with the people being rudeI know it seems like a childish thing to do, but sometimes rudeness gets carried a bit far. If you feel offended by the behavior someone is displaying and their rude attitude is embarrassing you, then you might need to take up this issue with your boss. You might need to do this if you have already tried confronting the rude person without success. |
| 7 Hair Coloring Mistakes to Avoid … Posted: 22 Feb 2011 11:12 AM PST Coloring your hair can be loads of fun, whether you are dyeing it a completely new shade, adding highlights, or going for a funkier look with streaks of color. It is possible to make mistakes when taking on the task of hair coloring, no matter how many times you read the directions. If you are thinking about dyeing your lovely locks, then take a look at the following 7 hair coloring mistakes to avoid. 7. Conditioning hair before adding dye
Photo Credit: SudsMuffinCanada Washing your hair before dyeing it is fine, but using conditioner is a huge no-no. The conditioner will coat each strand of hair, therefore making it virtually impossible for the dye to adhere to the hair. Even if you think your hair is clean, wash it before dyeing it, but leave off the conditioner and don't use any conditioning shampoo either. 6. Choosing a color that isn't flattering
Photo Credit: Elise Bonilla-Myers There are certain facial features that actually are enhanced by specific colors of hair. Most people look fine with their normal hair color. A few go for drastic changes with hair color and it doesn't always pan out. Some people are fortunate enough that they can get away with dyeing their hair any color they choose, since anything looks great. Fancy salons sometimes have computers that can give you an idea as to how you will look with a certain hair color. These are actually handy machines for those in doubt of their dye decision. 5. Leaving the dye on too long
Photo Credit: Bellisen The instructions for tinting or dyeing hair give a specific time frame for when the chemicals should be removed from your hair. Don't leave it on longer, hoping for a darker or more vibrant color. There is a time limit set for a reason. Be sure you don't do the opposite and rush the color either. Not leaving it on long enough will result in a poor dye job. |
| 7 Things To Remember To Recycle … Posted: 22 Feb 2011 11:01 AM PST Recycling is such an important issue in the preservation of our beautiful world. Word is spreading and more and more people are taking an active step in working to re-use items rather than having to make more. We know the basic items we can recycle like plastic containers, paper products, newspapers, etc. But I’ve found several things that I didn’t know was possible to recycle, so I thought I’d share them with you! 1. Foam PackagingYou know those little pellet looking things that kids love to make a mess with when you receive a shipment? They’re recyclable! They are made from expanded “polystyrene” which contains recycled material. You can also recycle the big pieces that are used to cushion computers, televisions and air conditioners. For more info on how to recycle them, you can visit www.loosefillpackaging.com and www.epspackaging.org. 2. Potato Chip BagsFoil packaging used to wrap what I consider “junk food” is also recyclable. Believe it or not, with recycling chip bags, it’s as simple as just putting them in your paper bin! 3. Ink & Toner CartridgesMany of you may know this one, as Staples has put the rewards thing into practice with so many dollars back for every one you bring in. You may not know, though, that you can also send them in to www.greendisk.com. |
| 7 Colors and How they Affect our Moods … Posted: 22 Feb 2011 11:00 AM PST Believe it or not, colors can play a significant role in the way we feel. Just think of it, why do we all feel depressed on gray, rainy days and energized and happy on sunny ones? The colors you decide to use in your living room, bed room or office can also play a big role the way you feel and think so, next time you decide to redecorate your living space, have these tips in mind: 1. Black is sexy but evil too
Photo Credit: shoe300 Black soaks in all other colors, for some, this color symbolizes bad luck, so, if you think painting your walls black would be a cool thing, I doubt you'll ever find a paint shop that produces it. Black is also a sexy, mystic, elegant color, so you might want to opt for wallpapers with a nice black and white print. I like dark colors and believe bedroom would be an ideal place for a daring color like this, however, since black is also associated with many negative feelings like anger, sadness, remorse, unhappiness, I'd think twice before plastering my living room with wallpapers in this color. 2. Blue is good for business and diets
Photo Credit: juntos [OFF/ON] Blue color makes people feel calm and safe so it's one of the most popular business colors. It symbolized unity, harmony, trust, security and order, which is pretty much everything you want your clients to think of you and your company. This color also lowers blood pressure and makes people feel less hungry so, if you feel like your family could benefit from eating less and getting together for a family meal, I'd say blue is a perfect dining room choice. 3. Purple for creative thinking
Photo Credit: dee_r I knew my fav color had something to do with creativity, trends and royalty. LOL! This color was first made of snail glands and, since it took like 1000 or more snails to get one gram of dye, it was pretty expensive and therefore not intended for anyone that didn't fall in the category of high class society. Today, anyone can afford this lovely color and I especially suggest the lavender with fuchsia undertone shade because it's warm and inspiring. It symbolizes wisdom, enlightenment and transformation so surround yourself with purple and your creative genius will blossom! |
| Posted: 22 Feb 2011 10:53 AM PST I'm not sure what it's like in the US but British TV features an awful lot of adverts for worthy causes. Some of them are very arresting, after all, how are you meant to react to somebody telling you 4,000 children die every day from lack of clean water? The problem is the causes range from human rights, poverty and disease, animal welfare, social problems and ecological issues to natural disaster so if you have a charitable nature and a few dollars to spare, just where do you send the money? 1. Salvation ArmyI used to think that the Salvation Army was localized but it has a global presence involved in working with solutions to human trafficking, homelessness, HIV/Aids and disaster relief. 2. Médecins Sans FrontièresThis is an independent organisation that focuses on the provision of medical aid. It works in areas that lack permanent health facilities or reacts to the needs of people following a disaster. It's also at the forefront of educating people in the developing world on health issues. 3. National Breast Cancer Foundation IncThis is the specific North American charity focussing on breast cancer. I've included this because we all know how much of an issue this is and it's not just limited to the developed world. There is no one global organisation (maybe there should be?), so I've gone for the one that's relevant to you. |
| 7 Things That’s Sexy Right Now … Posted: 22 Feb 2011 10:53 AM PST I can think of 7 things that's sexy right now. Of course, like always, we're two different people, so you may disagree with me on some of these things. However, it does not hurt to read and see what I think is sexy right now … 7. Lady GagaThe Univeristy of South Carolina and the University of Virginia are currently offering classes on Lady Gaga. So yes, I am definitely going to include Lady Gaga on my list of "things" that's sexy right now. 6. Scented LipstickResearch has showed that guys go crazy over scented lipstick. So, be sure to grab some scented lipstick the next time you go out! 5. High Shine PinkTake a look at Anne Hathaway and Mandy Moore – they make high shine pink pretty darn sexy. They have both recently wore shiny pink dresses that look great. For some people, I understand that you would not be caught dead in pink – I used to be the same exact was as all I liked wearing was black. However, now, I find myself wearing high shine pink and think it looks great. |
| 7 Interesting Ways To Keep Your Garden Insect Free … Posted: 22 Feb 2011 10:52 AM PST Gardens and insects! If you have a garden, you are sure to have seen creepy creations! Unless you are an entomologist, these may not interest you much and can be a siesta spoiler in the garden. Some of these insects sting and can be dangerous. It's best to get rid of them but I prefer to avoid harsh chemical insecticide in my garden, both for my family and the health of my garden. Here are some interesting ways to keep your garden insect free without using chemicals. 1. Insect Repelling PlantsThis is one of the easiest ways to keep your garden insect free. There are some strong smelling plants like garlic and marigold that most insects like to avoid. Plant these around the rest of your plants and you will see the insects disappear. 2. Garlic InsecticideAlternatively, you can make a solution with garlic oil, a few drops of soap and water and spray it on the leaves. It will kill the insects who try to eat the leaves and deter others from coming close by its strong smell. 3. Pepper Sauce InsecticideMake a solution with 2 teaspoons of pepper sauce, a few drops of liquid soap and water and spray in on your plants. The smell and heat of the pepper sauce will deter insects from coming near the plants. |
| 7 Things Not to Say to Someone Who is Suicidal … Posted: 22 Feb 2011 10:36 AM PST Suicide is difficult to cope with – both for the individual thinking of committing suicide and for those around the person. For the latter person, they may feel as if they are fighting a battle where they will only lose. They will come out and say anything to the individual that they believe can help them. However, there are some sentences that should not be spoken to someone who is thinking of suicide – this is because the individual can take those words and twist them into something you did not really mean or it can just push them over the last little bit of edge they are standing on. Below, I am going to give you 7 things not to say to someone who is suicidal … 7. Just Get Away From MeThe last thing the suffer needs is to be alone. Don't push the person away from you, especially not during this time when they are in need of someone to help them through this problem. 6. You'll Go Straight to HellOh, definitely don't go and say this. If the individual is religious, then obviously, their idea of Hell seems much better than life. Then, if the individual is not religious, why would you want to force such on them during this time? So, back off with the religious game. This could cause them to go ahead with those plans just to get at you and your religious point of view. 5. You Are So SelfishDon't tell the individual that they need to stop being selfish. Clinical depression, in any form, will cause the individual to be selfish – that is the way it is. |
| 7 Techniques for Cleaning Your Floors … Posted: 22 Feb 2011 10:34 AM PST Floor cleaning. It’s one of those mundane activities you can’t get away from, especially if you have pets or, you know, ever leave your house. Cat hair, dog hair, bunny bedding, melting snow, melting salt, dirt – it’s awful! But whether you have carpet, hardwood floors, vinyl, linoleum, or ceramic tiles, there are several different options available to you, all the way around those floors. Just as an example, here are 7 different techniques for cleaning your floors. 1. Vacuum FirstThis is naturally true for carpet, but I’m talking about doing it for hardwood, tile, vinyl, and so on. Most vacuums have a setting for sweeping harder floors; use it, live it, and love it, because you need it. It gets rid of all the debris that your mop can’t get and your broom can’t reach. And trust me, once you start mopping, you’ll be glad you did this. 2. Broom, Broom, BroomYou should use your broom as well. There are, after all, some places your vacuum can’t reach – like under the tub in the bathroom, behind the toilet, et cetera. Plus, there are certain things vacuum cleaners won’t pick up, no matter how good they claim to be at picking up all kinds of debris. Vacuums lie, but the broom always tells the truth. 3. Scrub-a-DubI don’t know about you guys, but my pets’ hair always ends up around the baseboards, like it’s some kind of magnetic vortex bent on pulling all the fur out of the room. A lot of times, neither the vacuum nor the broom can fight the power of that vortex. It’s a hassle and a half, but sometimes you just have to give up the ghost, play like Cinderella (minus the helpful mice), get down on your knees, and scrub the outer edges of your floor. |
| 7 Pieces of Underwear That You Can Also Use as Outerwear … Posted: 22 Feb 2011 10:00 AM PST When Lady Gaga started going out in public in briefs and bodysuits, she really brought all sorts of lingerie into the limelight. This idea of wearing underwear as outerwear has always been on the fringes of fashion consciousness, but now it's more common than ever. If you fork out good money for fancy lingerie, why not wear them so other people can see? Just make sure you choose your pieces wisely. 1. Vanessa Bruno Crepe De Chine Debardeur
 2. 3.1 Phillip Lim Bow-embellished Shorts
 3. Stella McCartney Isabelle Daydreaming Silk-Chiffon Chemise

| 7 Beauty Procedures it’s Ok to do at Home … Posted: 22 Feb 2011 10:00 AM PST Ladies, we all require a little maintenance once in a while to stay looking our best, but sometimes a trip to the salon can really break the bank. Girls, if you're a bit on the broke side, don't feel like you have to sacrifice your hotness! Here's a list of great beauty procedures you can do yourself at home … 1. A Fantastic Home FacialA skin treatment at a spa is heavenly, but girls, there's no reason why you can't do your own at home. Simply pick up a good face mask next time you're in the chemist and apply in slow circles to your washed face. After the required time, rinse, exfoliate and moistures. Ta- da! Salon skin from the comfort of your bedroom! 2. A DIY Mani-PediGetting a new manicure every time your nail polish chips falls way outside the average girl's budget. Instead of bankrupting yourself in the interest of beautiful talons, simply learn how to get them on your own. You'll need cuticle cream, a nail file, polish and a base coat to start. Now, simple copy what your beautician did the last time you saw her; I promise you girls, it'll be just as fab! 3. A Sugary ScrubAll over body treatments tend to hit the wallet hard and beauty experts suggest they're just as easy to manage, and even make, on your own. For a fantastic scrub that promises to improve circulation (and so attack cellulite), get yourself a bag of yellow sugar, a mashed up mango and a little honey. Mix these all up together until the consistency looks right, and enjoy a fruity all-over treatment in your very own shower. |
| 8 Beauty Regimens I Wish I Could Get Regularly … Posted: 22 Feb 2011 09:45 AM PST Spa days are awesome, even if they aren’t necessarily at a traditional spa. But you know how it goes. Either I don’t have the extra money for that kind of pampering, even though I have the time. Then, when I have the money, I don’t have the time. Then I don’t have either. Then I have both, but I generally have no desire to get out and go get things done. In a perfect world, however, these are the 8 beauty regimens I wish I could get regularly. 1. Manicure
Photo Credit: * chibi * busy again… sorry Since I finally stopped biting my fingernails, I’ve been obsessed with them. I mean, after going years and years during which I essentially had no nails, they’re now like a fashion accessory! The problem is, I suck at shaping and painting them myself. Like, I am terrible at it. I would love to be able to get a manicure like once a week or something. 2. Pedicure
Photo Credit: FoundryParkInn I’ve never had a pedicure in my whole life. I’m just as bad at shaping my toenails as I am at keeping my fingernails smoothly filed and perfectly shaped. And I am even worse at painting my toenails. I actually end up painting my entire toes. That is not a good look with summer sandals, you know? 3. Facial
Photo Credit: hiltonsandestin I am so angry at my face right now. I take care of it, I pamper it, I spoil it, with moisturizers and acne cleansers and apricot scrubs, and the skin on my face is just completely ungrateful. It’s gone crazy. It’s got multiple personalities. I am not even kidding: the left side of my face is smooth, moisturized, soft, and altogether lovely. The right side, however, which is ironically my dominant side, is rough, it is currently breaking out, and even the hair on that side of my head tends to misbehave. I would love to be able to get regular facials to get a handle on that awful behavior. Sort of like putting my face in its own naughty corner. |
| 7 Sports That Shouldn’t Be in the Olympics … Posted: 22 Feb 2011 08:52 AM PST We've all accidentally turned the channel over to the Olympics at one time or another and thought, "What are they doing? Is this even a sport?" Some of the stuff that they have deemed worthy of Olympic medals and here are the most laughable of those choices. 7. TaekwondoI don't understand how this is a sport. I guess some consider it an art, but to me it is just jumping around and doing Ninja Turtle stuff. If doing that's worthy of a medal, then the Olympic committee owes the 8-year old version of myself several. 6. GolfGolf is not a sport; it's a hobby. If out of shape old men can still compete and win then this needs to be taken off of the table. I realize it takes a lot of skill to play this game, but the same can be said for Scrabble, but you don't see anyone handing out medals for that, do you? 5. FencingSword fighting in a beekeeper's uniforms, do I even need to explain? Next! |
| 8 Cute and Colorful Necklaces … Posted: 22 Feb 2011 08:05 AM PST Okay, you’re no longer 9 and you don’t want to be caught dead wearing accessories that may be considered too cutesy. Diamonds, pearls, simple bands, and other elegant pieces are often the order of the day but there are times when a cute and colorful necklace can complete a look. Go ahead and collect jewelry that speak well of the sophisticated woman that you are. However, do not be afraid to fall for whimsy once in a while by investing in one (or two) of the following pieces: 1. Party AnimalPrice: $38 at anthropologie What could possibly be cuter than a circus animal pendant. You get a giraffe, elephant, tiger, and a zebra. Of course, my favorite is this adorable elephant with his teal balloon. For laughs, wear this fun necklace for a night out at the town with your girls. 2. New LifePrice: $238 at anthropologie A tad too pricey for my usual taste but I must say that this is a statement necklace that fits our cute and colorful bill here. There is something about a tassel detail that makes me think of high school (cheerleaders?) and so this necklace made me go “aww!” I was not a cheerleader, mind you; I just had a pretty fun high school experience. 3. Tour de JewelsPrice: $28 at anthropologie Even if you’re only wearing a plain white shirt, this necklace will make you look undeniably adorable in seconds. If I see a lady wearing this, I will immediately think that she’s fun and always up for a good laugh. Then I will befriend her and hope that she will let me borrow the necklace one day. 4. BewitchingPrice: $298 at anthropologie There are many necklaces out today with pendants that are supposed to be human-inspired. You know, little girl or robot pendants. Often, though, they are of the same color as the chain. This Bewitching piece, however, is too colorful to ignore. This is handmade and came all the way from France. |

| 8 Punctuality Tips Everyone Should Follow … Posted: 22 Feb 2011 01:30 AM PST Being punctual is something that I rarely have difficulty with, as long as I am the only one I have to take care of. Getting the rest of my family corralled and to their destinations on time is a different story. For the most part, the kids do a good job at being punctual for school, work, and other appointments. Here are 8 punctuality tips everyone should follow, or at least try to! 8. Make sure your watch is correctPhoto Credit: honeyjazz I'm sure this is a given for most. You'd probably be surprised to know how many people rely on a faulty watch to keep them punctual. Watch batteries die, the timing is off, the watch wearer forgets to wind it, etc. There are so many things that can go wrong with a watch. I recommend double-checking your watch every now and then to make sure it is keeping the correct time. 7. Be sure you are reading the clock correctlyPhoto Credit: intouch I can recall at least twice where I've glanced at the clock hands and misjudged the hand placement. I've looked at the short hand of a clock and mistook it for the long hand, due to them being placed so close together at a particular time. Thankfully I wasn't trying to keep track of time for punctual purposes; otherwise I would have been late for my appointment. However, I was watching the time for something that was baking in the oven. Yep, I burned it to a crisp. I glanced at the clock and noted where the small hand was – thinking it was the large hand – when I looked back at the clock after some time and realized it hadn't moved, I noticed my mistake. Unfortunately the baked goods were emitting a burnt smell from the oven at approximately the same instant. |
| 7 Ways to Incorporate 1970′s Fashion into Your Look … Posted: 21 Feb 2011 11:42 PM PST I'm going to date myself here as hopelessly old, but I was born in 1972, and got to experience first-hand some of the fashion trends of that time. They were so much fun, with lots of colors, textures, and trends that are making a comeback. But it can be tricky to wear the trends… too much, and you look like you're wearing a costume. But I can help! If you love harvest gold, rust, and avocado green, keep reading! Here are 7 ways to incorporate 1970s fashion into your look. 1. Sestina at Sunset Top
 2. Ahead of the Flock Dress
