| 7 Tricks on Being a “Cool” Girl … Posted: 25 Feb 2011 11:39 AM PST Come on, you KNOW you want to be a cool girl that every guy seems to dig! You want to be the next best thing that can rock anyone’s world. I know the feeling girl! Let me give you 7 tricks on being a “cool” girl … 7. Dress in NeutralsFor clothes, try dressing in neutrals. I noticed many “cool” girls doing this one. Neutral colors may suite you perfectly. You could add some cool jewelry to it too. I really like dragon and crystal pendants along with skulls. 6. Don’t Care What Others ThinkCool girls always have their own interests and opinions. They do not care what other people think of them – just do it in a respectful manner. Take me for an example, if I have something to say, I am going to say it, but I am going to put it in a nice way. By nice, I mean no name calling or pointing fingers. You should also dress however you want to dress. 5. Don’t ComplainCome on, since when do you see a cool girl complaining about things? Hey, I’m talking about cool girls, not the rude girls or whiny girls. I can’t stand people who complain. Sure, the job may not be done right, but that doesn’t mean you have to be so rude about it. Cool girls just go with the flow and if they absolutely have to complain, they should do it nicely. |
| 7 Surprising Health Foods of 2011 … Posted: 25 Feb 2011 11:22 AM PST 2011 is the year for healthy foods and getting fit, it seems like. Well, it’s always that way toward the beginning of the year. You’re so excited about your New Year’s resolutions, totally ready to eat healthy, exercise, and get fit. It can be hard to keep up with those hopeful aspirations, but it helps if you know which foods are going to be the best for you in the coming year. That being said, here are 7 surprising health foods of 2011! 1. ChickpeasChickpeas are going to be more than just the base ingredient in falafal and hummus. These peas are becoming a sort of superstar vegetable – or, rather, legume. Even Subway is incorporating chickpeas into their menu. A lot of entrees in restaurants are going to be made of legumes, and this one is sure to top the list. 2. Bitter GreensAs a Southern girl, I grew up on collard greens and have never been disappointed about the fact. Well, kale and other, similar kinds of bitter greens are going to be seriously in this year; you’ll be seeing them just about everywhere. Swiss chard, broccoli rabe, turnip greens, and kale are all going to be popping up where you least expect them. Kale, especially, is delicious in salads, not to mention in soups and it even tastes great in pasta. 3. Winter SquashesWinter squash is a wonderfully delicious, wonderfully healthy food you’ll be seeing this year. That includes such delicacies as butternut squash, usually served as a puree, and pumpkin. However, these beta carotene vegetables will also be seen in soups and pastas, not to mention desserts. |
| Posted: 25 Feb 2011 11:17 AM PST This was a difficult list to make. There are so many things I want to do before I die. This list only includes 7 things I would love to do, but it's a start! Maybe you'll write out your own list after reading this. I actually have an ongoing list that I keep. I didn't take time to write all these down until I watched the movie The Bucket List. I'm sure that movie inspired quite a few people to make a list of their own. 7. Go on a culinary vacationI love food and traveling to other countries, so what better way to do both than to go on a culinary adventure around the world. Culinary tours are offered in many countries, but the ones I most want to visit are Italy, Morocco, Spain, and France. I think it would be excellent to learn how to cook traditional meals from each of these countries and enjoy the beautiful scenery of each as well. 6. Eat in the underwater restaurant in MaldivesThe name of this underwater eatery is Ithaa, which means 'pearl'. This restaurant is located 16 feet under water. As people dine in the restaurant, sea creatures can be seen swimming overhead. It's like a tunnel of water filled with tables and chairs for people to eat at. There is a spiral staircase the leads from a thatched pavilion near the end of a jetty down to the restaurant. If I had 11,710 dollars to spare, I might go for spending the night here as well. The restaurant will close once a week to allow guests willing to spend this steep price to stay the night. 5. Visit FijiI've always been in awe of the gorgeous azure water and the light sand of the Fiji islands. When I worked as a travel agent many years ago, I always wanted someone to book a vacation to Fiji so I could get a first-hand account of what it was like. I've only been able to see pictures online and drool over the travel magazines that feature information about these gorgeous islands. |
| Posted: 25 Feb 2011 11:05 AM PST They say life is what happens while we're too busy making other plans and, considering all the downsides and challenges we face every day, I definitely see how this could be true. I had a friend that was always busy chasing new ways to earn money, more glam ways to spend it, better or at least different people to hang with. Regardless of how much he had, he always wanted more so, when I asked him why can't he just be happy today, he said "If I stop and actually believe I'm good where I am now, how can I be 100% happy? I'll always wonder if I could have had something more than just that!" Well, how about setting some challenging goals and actually stopping for a second do congratulate yourself and feel good about it? Here's why I think we should all stop for just a millisecond and be happy right now! 1. You know more than you knew one year agoWhen we turn 18 (or 21, depending on the country), we think we know everything. At 20 something we figure out there is still a lot to learn and by the time we reach 30, we start focusing more on what's going to happen tomorrow than on what's going on today. We're trying to predict everything political changes to our boss's bad moods. Don't burden yourself by worrying about things you can't control and stressing over the fact that you can't know everything in advance. You know a lot and you have a lot of experience to help you swim through those murky rivers of life. You might hit a rock here and there but worrying about the possibility of hitting a rock will certainly slow you down and make you a very dull swimming partner. 2. You are exactly where you need to beA university friend told me about one very interesting study that says that destiny isn't all that mysterious as we think it is. In fact, if you could turn back the time, have your memory erased and do things all over again, you'd repeat every single action and decision. Why? Because you wouldn't have any prior knowledge on why you should do things differently so everything that seemed like a good decision back then, will still remain a good decision. Now, I'm not saying all this is true, I'm just trying to tell you that there's no reason to beat yourself up about things in the past. Every decision you've made was basically good because it seemed like that back then and you are exactly where you need to be. If those decisions were indeed so good, you can congratulate yourself and keep up the good work. If some of those decisions backfired and had a negative effect on some aspect of your life, you can still congratulate yourself because you have acquired valuable knowledge and became much wiser. |
| 7 Cool Pens That I Always Use … Posted: 25 Feb 2011 11:01 AM PST As a writer, you’d think that I go through a lot of pens. That’s true … and not so true. I get kind of obsessive about pens. If I find one that feels good in my fingers and eases writer’s cramp, I keep buying it. If I find one that makes a really beautiful script, I stick with it. If I write something really good using a certain pen, I superstitiously keep buying refills for it and refuse to get rid of it. These are 7 cool pens that I always use for various types of writing. I love these guys! 1. X750 Vertrag Fountain Pen
 2. Pilot G2 Fine Point Gel Pen
 3. Pilot Dr. Grip Fine Point Gel Pen

| 7 Amazing Reality Shows That I Love … Posted: 25 Feb 2011 10:54 AM PST There is no doubt that reality shows have caught the imagination of the world. And, because of their immense popularity today, we have some really amazing reality shows on air. It has been difficult to pick, but here is a list of reality shows that I really love. 1. Top ChefOne of the best reality shows about cooking: Chefs from across the country compete with each other every week and through the process of elimination, the Top Chef is chosen in the final episode of the season. I find some great cooking techniques on this show. And I immensely enjoy watching the ego's clash on one hand and flirtations sparking off on the other, amongst the chefs. 2. So You Think You Can DanceContestants from different cities show off their dancing skills on one of the best reality shows about dancing. The best thing about the show is the fact that you get to see so many different styles of dance as well as the development in skills and maturing of a dancer. 3. RuPaul's Drag RaceThis is a really one of the most refreshing and amazing reality shows on air. It features downright ferocious competition between drag queens and every episode is filled with enough sass to make you blush. |
| Posted: 25 Feb 2011 10:50 AM PST Ladies, if you're like me and hate the colder weather, then you know how the thought of sunshine can sustain you through the winter months. For all you girls still stuck in the snow, I've put together a list of seven summery reminders of why the beach rocks our world. Read it and just picture your next vacation … here are 8 reasons to love the beach… 1. Super SunshineWhile burning and excess tanning is definitely bad for you, a little bit of sunshine, carefully managed, has quite the opposite effect. Studies have shown that people in colder climates who rarely see the sun are more prone to depression, so girls, slap on the sun block, take your butt to the beach and prepare to get happy! 2. Lazy DaysLadies, I don't know if it's just me but I often feel super guilty if I take a nap during the day. Even on vacation and at the weekend! But somehow, it's ok to just stretch out on the sand and soak up the summer. At the beach, it's cool to be lazy, and girls that gets a big thumbs up from me! 3. The Mandatory Ice CreamNowhere else in the world is practically compulsory to eat a tub of Ben & Jerry's. Girls, ice cream is not optional at the beach; I mean, how else are we going to cool ourselves down? (It's a long walk to the water ok?! And lying in the sun makes my legs kind of tired …) |
| Top 7 Best Compliments for Men … Posted: 25 Feb 2011 10:45 AM PST Women love to receive compliments and we all know this one, but believe it or not, there are many guys that also enjoy receiving compliments. So, it would not hurt to toss some well deserved compliments to the man in your life from time to time. Let me give you the top 7 best compliments for men in my opinion … 7. His Clothes"Wow, I really like your style. You have a good sense of style." I believe many women enjoy hearing how much a woman enjoys the clothes they wear. If this is a boyfriend or husband, try "You look sexy in those clothes! You are really turning me on right now." 6. Their Nice Car"Wow, I love your car. How much horsepower does it have?" Yes, this is definitely a comment that men enjoy to hear. This is also a good conversation starter. If you're like me and know a bit about what is under that hood, you will grab the man with this compliment. 5. Comment on the Way They Cook"Do you know something? I really enjoy the food you have cooked. It's really delicious. I mean, I have not tasted steak this good anywhere before." Yes, guys can cook good food and they appreciate hearing that the food they cook is good just as much as you do. |
| Posted: 25 Feb 2011 10:38 AM PST I learned the basics of washing clothes from my mother and she from her mother. To me it seems like common sense, at least now it does. When I first starting doing my own laundry it seemed like a lot to remember. The 7 tips for washing clothes that I’ve posted below are just some general ones that will help anyone who’s never done a load of laundry. The only thing they won’t help you with is how to run the washing machine. These new fangled devices of today are pretty amazing, once you can figure out how to get it turned on! 7. Don't overfill the machineStuffing too many clothes in the washing machine is not only hard in this usually helpful household appliance, but it also doesn’t allow enough room for the clothes to move around freely. My mom used to refer to it as Swish Room. "Clothes need plenty of swish room." she’d say to me as she loaded the machine with dirty clothes. So, give laundry room enough to swish about in the sudsy water so they actually get clean. 6. Hand wash delicate garmentsI learned this one the hard way. Even though mom gave me a garment bag once, those little mesh bags with a zipper at one end, and told me to put delicate things in it. I was a teenager, so this meant bras and underwear I didn’t want the machine to eat. Well, I decided that there was no way that the machine could possibly damage clothing and I was in a hurry to toss in a load of laundry. I was very surprised to find that washing machines do eat delicate garments. I had a satiny night gown that became entangled under the agitator on the machine. I now hand wash all my delicate garments, especially pantyhose. 5. Spray stain remover on clothes right awayAs soon as you notice a stain on clothing, it’s best to add a stain remover to it right away. I love those Tide pens. I have one by the laundry machine, one in my purse, and one in the car. I’ve even shown the boys how to use these handy dandy pens. If you don’t have a stain removal pen, then a spray on formula works just as well. It’s best if you can let the stain remover set for 5 to 10 minutes and then wash the item right away. Depending on what the stain is, sometimes letting it set for too long allows the stain to become a permanent one. |
| 7 Must Read Literary Classics … Posted: 25 Feb 2011 09:54 AM PST There are some books that we should all try to read in our lifetimes. Debate will always rage as to what books should achieve 'must-read' status. The most iconic ones are those that have managed to cement themselves into popular culture. Below are just a few to get you started. 1. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
 2. The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
 3. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

| 7 Phrases I Cordially Detest … Posted: 25 Feb 2011 09:51 AM PST There are some phrases that I just hate to hear. They make me inwardly cringe – but I outwardly smile, because I cordially, rather than maliciously, detest them! Meaning, I don’t dislike the people who use them, and I would never, ever presume to tell them to stop. I do, however, go around and write blogs about the 7 phrases I cordially detest – so I can keep hearing them and smiling! 1. "It’s my world, everyone else is just living in it."Really? Really? I am hearing way too many girls saying this lately, as well, girls in their teens, late teens, and early twenties, yes, but when I start hearing it from thirtysomethings, and they’re totally not kidding about it, I’m like, "what?" I am not living in your world. If perchance I was somehow forced to live in your world, I would probably take my ball and go home, or else jump on that whole bandwagon of people who want to live on the moon. 2. "I’m __ years young!"I have massive amounts of respect for people who don’t feel their age, and who do not let their ages dictate the way they feel. I think that’s great. But to say that you are "years young" instead of "years old" is kitschy enough to make my teeth clench. I don’t even know why, but I suspect it has something to do with all the old ladies who used to pinch my cheeks when I was a wee slip of a lass going to Sunday school. I’m glad you feel young, but you are not growing backwards. 3. "There’s no time like the present."This phrase just irks me because it’s … well, it’s redundant, really. I mean, honestly? No, there’s no time like the present, because we are in the present. There is no other time like it. The future is not like the present because it hasn’t happened yet. The past is not like the present because it’s already happened. So thank you for clearing that up. |
| 7 Efficient Tactics to Fulfill Your Goals … Posted: 25 Feb 2011 09:40 AM PST The key to making a successful strategy is visualizing your goal, or a "preferred outcome" if you wish, and finding alternative, manageable ways of attaining it. That's what they teach us in school so, if it can help millions of CEOs run huge, multimillion businesses, it can sure be applied in normal life, for tackling issues like weight-loss, career advancements, raising children or anything else that may be of interest to you. So, here are those managerial tricks you can start using today! 1. Set realistic goalsI would love the wake up one day and look like Rihanna but that's just impossible! Hell, no exercising could help me have Alyssa Milano's body either because we just don't have the same body type. That's exactly what I have in mind when talking about realistic goals. You'll have to be objective and see things the way other people see them, only then you will be able to set a realistic, achievable goal. Don't set the bar to high because you won't be motivated to try for it and don't set it too low either because, in that case, it just won't seem worth it. 2. Set realistic timeframesYou can't expect to drop 50 pounds in just two months or find an interesting new job you know nothing about. It's going to take a while and you'll have to sweat in the gym or attend a lot of seminars and courses, so have that in mind when setting a timeframe. Being objective is of vital importance here too – you have to give yourself enough time for the transformation to work, otherwise, you'll just end up being terribly disappointed. Don't give yourself too much time either because knowing that you have some extra days will make you'll slack off and your goals will always seem unachievable and too far away. |
| 8 Ways to Identify a Mama’s Boy … Posted: 25 Feb 2011 09:16 AM PST It is only natural that a guy would love his mother. It is generally accepted that guys who show love and respect for their mothers treat women better than men who lack respect for their own mothers. However, there is a difference between a normal mother/son relationship and a not so healthy mother/ mama's boy relationship. Let's hope these 8 tips help you to identify a mama's boy before you get too involved with him. 1. He calls his mother "Mommy"Any adult male who insists on calling his mother "mommy" is quite likely a mama's boy. He is easily identified by the euphoric look on his face at the mere mention of her. When he speaks the word "mommy" his voice will remind you of a little boy. When you see this happen, run. He is still tied to his mama's apron strings. 2. Mommy must approveWhen a guy asks for his mama's approval before asking a gal out on a date, he is a mama's boy. Obviously he relies on mama to make his decisions for him. He may look like an adult but he surely does nothing like one. 3. Mommy chaperonesLook out for the guys who bring their moms along on dates. Mama's boys bring mother along and treat her more like the date than you! Mama gets the front seat, you get the back. Dump the guy quick unless you want to be saddled with mama for the duration of your relationship. |

| 7 Foods You Thought Were Healthy, But Aren’t … Posted: 25 Feb 2011 08:52 AM PST We're all trying so hard to eat more nutritious foods, not just to lose or maintain weight, but to make sure we're getting everything we need to be healthy and happy. We eat our five servings of fruits and veggies each day, try to add whole grains when we can, and study nutritional labels… but a few foods slip through the cracks and avoid our scrutiny because we've always thought of them as "health foods." But some are not! Here's a list of 7 foods you thought were healthful, but aren't. 1. Chicken noodle soupPhoto Credit: tonispilsbury We've all heard, and perhaps even felt, the healing, restorative powers of chicken noodle soup, ideal for curing colds and flus and general malaise. But did you know it's loaded with sodium, and can also be filled with fat? Before you buy a canned soup, check the label and pass if it's less-than-worthy of your affection (or ingestion). Instead, make your own, or buy the low-sodium "healthy choice" options. 2. Bottled juices and teas
You would think fruit juice and iced tea would be a better choice than sodas, but did you know that most of the bottled single-serve juices and teas contain just as much sugar, and very little actual juice or tea? Again, check the label to see what's actual in the juice or tea before you buy it. If it contains high fructose corn syrup, or the "sugars" inside are more than 12g, then you should pass… and grab a bottle of water, or REAL juice, instead. 3. Sandwiches
I am a great fan of the sandwich, especially flatbread sandwiches and pita rolls. But did you know that these aren't necessarily healthy choices either? Many lunch meats are loaded with fat and sodium, and tuna and chicken salads can be made with far more mayonnaise than they have to. Check nutritional information on sandwiches and subs from restaurants, and opt for low-fat mayo (if available) or veggie subs with little or low-fat dressing. |
| Posted: 25 Feb 2011 06:24 AM PST I will tell you right now, I do not have a World of Warcraft addiction. An obsession … yes, that sounds much better. I am not going to tell you what guild these celebrities are in or even tell you the name they play on. I will, however, give you a close up of which celebrities play World of Warcraft. Below, I am going to give you 7 celebrities that play WoW … 7&6. Matt Stone & Trey Parker
Matt Stone and Trey Parker are the a screenwriters, producers, directors, musicians, actors and voice artists. They are popular for the show "South Park." I also have to mention that they both play WoW! Imagine getting pwned by the famous Stone or Parker… or both! 5. Macaulay Culkin
Hey, now his rogue can be home alone! Just kidding. Macaulay Culkin is famous for Home Alone. I remember when I was a little girl, I watched this movie like there was no tomorrow. I didn't realize Macaulay played World of Warcraft until awhile back when I was doing some reading. |

| 8 Simple Ways To Cheer Up Your Kitchen … Posted: 24 Feb 2011 12:11 PM PST Not being of the cooking persuasion, I spend as little time as possible in my kitchen. Love eating, hate cooking! But if you do like cooking, and your kitchen is looking a little drab, you might want to cheer it up. Major renovations are expensive, so here are some simple ways of making your kitchen look brighter and fresher (they can also work if you live in a rented home). 1. PaintPaint doesn't have to be expensive, and a fresh new colour can make the room look quite different. Plus, with cupboards etc covering a lot of wall space, you won't need to paint much. Just think how cheerful a lovely bright yellow would look. 2. New CurtainsAre you handy with the sewing machine? Pick up some fabric and run up a pair of simple curtains, or check out your local shops. There are some great designs that would work well in a kitchen – and you don't have to pick something with a food theme. Be as creative as you want! 3. FlowersFresh flowers can cheer up any room, especially if they are picked from your own garden. Of course, it's not flower season at the moment, but there are bargains to be had from market stalls, or at the end of the day in supermarkets. So buy some cheerful blooms as often as you can afford them! |
