| Posted: 06 Mar 2011 11:43 AM PST While there's something to be said for a modest one-piece swimsuit— they do forgive a multitude of sins — I am a big fan of the bikini, too. It's hard to find one that's not too revealing, or in some ridiculous unflattering neon pink leopard print, though, so I recently spent an afternoon scouring my fave fashion sites looking for one for the new season… and I've actually ended up with an entire wish-list full! Here are 8 beautiful bikinis… 1. Long Soak Bikini
 2. Maine Event Bikini
 3. Cross Currents Bikini

| 7 Tips for Creating a Capsule Wardrobe … Posted: 06 Mar 2011 10:38 AM PST If you have trouble deciding what to wear on a daily basis, or find the thought of your current wardrobe overwhelming, then a capsule wardrobe just might be what you need. A capsule wardrobe is a well thought out collection of garments. The idea is to build a collection of classic and timeless pieces. This way you will never be out of style! 1. Determine Your Style
Photo Credit: bijouxdejais Before you start building your capsule wardrobe, think about your fashion style. Are you corporate, casual, or bohemian? When you've decided upon this, you can start thinking about the types of items that will primarily make up your capsule wardrobe. If you are more corporate, then you may have more tailored items such as collared shirts and suits. Your capsule wardrobe should be a reflection of your personal style. 2. Cull Your Current Wardrobe
Photo Credit: kristienkhan This is an important part of creating a capsule wardrobe. Dispose of any ill fitting, unworn, and out of date items. It's no use keeping items that you never wear. Once you get rid of all the "noise" you can start focusing on the foundations of your wardrobe. 3. Have the Basics Covered
Photo Credit: neonbubble A good capsule wardrobe should contain all the essentials. These include well fitting shirts, t-shirts, trousers, A-line skirts, jeans, and a black dress. Also look for shoes in classic shapes that can be worn with all of your outfits. Basics are great because they never go out of style and they are the starting point for many outfits. |
| 7 Things to Have in Mind When Organizing a Family Reunion … Posted: 06 Mar 2011 10:33 AM PST If you though organizing a wedding is hard, wait until you get chosen to do a family reunion. Unlike a wedding, which is entirely your day, a family reunion celebrates your family tree and is, as such, strongly influenced not by your individual preferences but family and its wishes too. Neat, huh? Well, before you go totally crazy, here are some tips on what to focus your attention on: 1. FinancesWho's going to pay for what and what are you going to do in case you max out on your budget? Organizing a family reunion is a financially exhausting endeavor and you shouldn't be the only one affected by it. If you're planning on renting a venue for the occasion, asking for everybody to pay for their bit sounds pretty rational, doesn't it? But, what if your house is big enough for everybody and there is no reason to book an extra place? You'll either need plenty of help or a catering company, hun, because you can't cook for 30 or 50 people on your own. It would take you days! And food is just the tip of that iceberg! So, do stress the fact that everybody must pitch in one way or the other. The ones that can't afford to actually pay can bring food, decorations or help set the place up and clear it up once the reunion is finished. 2. Location, location, locationOkay, so, let's say the location of the venue is point A and your house is point B. You've organized the reunion in a way that makes it easy for you to travel from point B to point A. But, how easy it is for all of your family members to reach A travelling from points C, D, E, F etc? Well, that's what you need to think about before making your final choice of the venue. It must be easily accessible, if not for all, then at least for the "critical" part of your family – elderly members and the ones with young children. |
| Posted: 06 Mar 2011 10:18 AM PST I think Johnny Depp is one of the best actors on screen today. He has the ability to take on any character he wishes and create a believable story with this individual. There are a few actors who seem to make the same movies over and over again. Sure these flicks might have different titles, but they all have similar storylines and the actor plays almost the same character in each movie. Johnny Depp definitely doesn't fall into this category. Out of all of his movies I've seen, here are my favorite top 10 Johnny Depp movies. 10. Ed WoodJohnny Depp portrays Ed Wood Jr. in this movie. Supposedly Ed Wood Jr. was very well known for not only being a terrible director, but also doing his directing in women's clothing. His movies are thought to be some of the worst ones around. I saw this movie not only because Johnny Depp was in it, but because it was directed by Tim Burton. At least this biography of Ed Wood Jr. is witty, quirky, and has a few additional great actors in it. 9. Fear and Loathing in Las VegasThis has to be one of the oddest movies I've seen in a long time. I should have known that it would be since Terry Gilliam was directing. Being a member of the Monty Python comedy troupe, he's bound to have a goofy side that will emerge in the movies he directs. Due to its oddness, this flick is considered to be a cult favorite. It's about the misadventures of Raoul Duke, a sportswriter, and his lawyer Dr. Gonzo. This movie basically spans a period of three days in Las Vegas and is filled with hallucinogens and crazy happenings. 8. Sleepy HollowDepp makes a much better Ichabod Crane than the cartoon versions I remember seeing as a kid. Although the cartoon and old stories about Sleepy Hollow have a similar plot, this movie involves more detailed accounts of encounters with ghosts and the headless horseman. It is a rather spooky movie and very dark. Tim Burton directed this one as well, which I think is very obvious by the shapes of many of the trees in the forest. Burton has an artistic flair that he adds to all his movies. |
| 7 Tips on Adding Hours to Your Day … Posted: 06 Mar 2011 10:08 AM PST For those of you who would like to add hours to your day, I understand that there is no such thing as adding more time to the clock – it’s not even possible, even if we wanted to. However, we can learn some techniques that will make it seem as if we have more time in the day. Below, I am going to give you 7 tips on adding hours to your day … 7. Organize Your DayHave you ever noticed those with good organization skills seem to manage their time quiet well? Well, that’s the trick, if you sit down and organize your day, including the things around you, your day may go smoother. Then, you won’t feel as if your brain is in a tangled not. 6. Don’t Cry Over Spilled MilkIf your day is not going right, don’t waste time by crying. Get up and make things right. 5. Stay Off of the Phone for Too LongIf the phone is not work related, then stay off of it for too awful wrong. I noticed that when I am on the phone, time really flies and if you do not watch the clock, that time is going to fly. |
| 8 Things I’d Do If I Had The Money … Posted: 06 Mar 2011 10:05 AM PST We all do it, don't we – dream about what we'd do if we won the lottery, or inherited a fortune from a long-lost relative. Some of those dreams involve philanthropic endeavours, while others are about treating ourselves. Whether grand or small, there are lots of things I'd like to do – if only I had the money! 1. MortgageIf there's one thing I'd love to do, it's pay off my sister's mortgage. I honestly don't think anything would give me greater pleasure than to be able to ask how much is outstanding and present her with a cheque. That's one thing that could really make a difference. 2. Laser TreatmentI'm rather short-sighted, but I don't like wearing contact lenses, so I'm stuck with glasses. This doesn't really bother me, but it would be nice to be able to wake up in the morning and not fumble for my glasses! However, I'd want to go to a hospital and get it done by a specialist, not in a high street clinic, so it would be expensive. 3. Cat ShelterAs regular readers will know, cat welfare is a very important issue for me. I work with a rescue organisation, and we are constantly struggling to raise funds. So I would love to have enough money to build and run a dedicated shelter. |
| 8 Tips on Making Friends in High School … Posted: 06 Mar 2011 10:02 AM PST High school can be an awkward time for kids, both boys and girls. It's been a very long time since I was in high school, so I asked my son for some ideas. I used his advice and wrote 8 tips on making friends in high school. I figured he was a good resource to use seeing as he is currently in high school and is very good at making friends. Hope you enjoy the tips and find some that work for you as well! 8. Be willing to make the first introductionDon't expect everyone else to make the first move and introduce them selves to you. If you aren't the outgoing type, you might have to simply suck it up and go for it! Smile at someone and see if this is enough to get them to say 'hello'. Sometimes it makes things easier when someone else says the first thing. 7. Share storiesTelling and sharing stories is a great way to bring people together. Hanging out with a group of people and sharing a fun story from your past keeps the rest of the group entertained and makes you the center of attention. Don't go out of your way to make up an interesting story, unless you tell them it's made up. People tend to not think very highly of someone who makes up things to gain popularity. Be yourself and stick to factual stories. 6. Display your skillsWhen my son mentioned this tip, I immediately thought of Napoleon Dynamite where he's talking to his friend about how girls like a guy with skills. It made me laugh, but it's somewhat true. People like to find out what their friends can do. The more skills you have, the more popular you tend to be. If you have some skills, show them off. |
| 8 Gravesites of Famous People I’d Love to Visit … Posted: 06 Mar 2011 09:43 AM PST I’m kind of a morbid girl, in that I love old cemeteries. However, morbidity has nothing to do with the fact that there are certain gravesites I would love to visit. From actors to writers to artists, there are just some people to whom I would love to pay homage. Here are the top 8 gravesites of famous people I would absolutely love to visit someday. 1. Humphrey Bogart
Photo Credit: art-wallpaper.org Humphrey Bogart is one of my all time favorite actors. He was just the epitome of the rugged, serious, suave male. The subtle humor you see in his acting still makes me pretty weak in the knees. It wouldn’t be too hard to pay a visit to his grave, either. He’s interred in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, which is located in Glendale, California. 2. Doc Holliday
Photo Credit: artmight.com Val Kilmer is actually responsible for starting my ongoing obsession with card shark Doc Holliday. His drawl of such lines as, "I’m your huckleberry" and "You’re a daisy if ya do," probably weren’t accurate but they still launched a love affair that led me to devouring every possible bit of information about John Henry Holliday, who was once upon a time a dentist. A tubercular sometimes-gunfighter, he’s buried in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, at the Pioneer Cemetery. 3. Oscar Wilde
Oh, my dear Mr. Wilde. If I see no other gravesite on this list, I will see Oscar Wilde’s. He is buried in the Pere Lachaise cemetery in my beloved Paris, after first being interred in the Bagneaux Cemetery. His plot there was allegedly only temporarily available – it was a lease, if you will. I long to pay my respects to Oscar, however, and might add my lip prints onto his tomb – which is joined by the earthly remains of Robert Ross, his longtime, very close friend. |
| 8 Beauty Tips for a Tight Budget … Posted: 06 Mar 2011 09:34 AM PST After the recession, ladies, we're all feeling the pinch. Our wallets just aren't as full as they used to be and sensible spending it the order of every day. This means we've had to make cut backs in various 'non-essential' areas, and unfortunately beauty products tend to fall into this category. But, girls, don't despair: I've compiled this list of effective beauty tips to help you get the most out of the cosmetics you've got so you can stay looking glam on the tightest of budgets. 1. Keep Your Tights in the Freezer
Photo Credit: SSSH960 Nylons Collector I know girls, this sounds super-weird, but storing nylon stockings at low temperatures keeps them going for longer and reduces the risk of laddering. If you're anything like me ladies, you ladder a pair a day and trust me, that can get very expensive. 2. Ditch the Store-Bought Facial Scrubs
Photo Credit: The Toby Facial scrubs are great: they buff off dry cells, open the pores and allow skin to breathe. Like all skincare products, however, they can get really pricy. Experts assure us that a handful of plain oatmeal will do the job just as well, and because this natural exfoliant contains no chemical or soaps, it won't dry out your skin! 3. Make Your Own Bath Products
Photo Credit: Myles! A glug of olive oil in your bath works just as well as high-end skin softeners and it's packed with nourishing antioxidants too. Add a few drops of your favourite perfume for specially scented bath-time bliss. |

| 9 Things Never To Do At Work … Posted: 06 Mar 2011 08:36 AM PST Most of us have common sense. At least, I think we do! Common sense tells us that we can’t show up to work in our pajamas, take a day off without permission, or borrow our co-workers car without her knowledge. However, there are certain things that we shouldn’t really do at work that many of us do, either because we don’t pay attention to what we’re doing or because we don’t realize how it looks. Here are 9 top things never to do at work. 1. Look SloppyMost of us know better than to show up in sweats, but your favorite worn out sweater with picks all over it or your scuffed up flats that lost their shine two years ago should be in the same category as sweats. A good rule to follow is to never dress better than your boss, but never worse. You can find that happy medium. Black is always safe and in order to keep it from looking too much like a funeral you can add pops of color here and there. And don’t get sloppy with your attitude either. You may have been at your workplace for the past five years but that doesn’t earn you the right to walk all over others! Treat them the way you would want to be treated! 2. Using Office Time For Personal TimeThis includes texting, calling friends, emailing, or working on your menu for next week. Unless you have permission to do these things or you work in an office where you do nothing but stare at the wall and arrange the paper clips into odd shapes all day, these things are not acceptable. I was blessed with a very understanding boss at the last public job I worked. My boyfriend at the time (now husband) was deployed and we only got a certain amount of time to talk on the phone per week. Usually it was on a weekday early in the morning. My boss gave me permission to slip outside and take his calls anytime of the day! I realize that may not be possible with every job, but never assume you have permission. Ask for it, and if it’s not given, do your best to keep a cool attitude about it. |
| Justin Beiber is Growing Facial Hair! Posted: 06 Mar 2011 08:36 AM PST Tween heart-throb Justin Beiber turned 17 last week and is already making plans to grow facial hair… what?!? Yesterday, he tweeted this: “im not shaving for a month so you all can see my mustache.. im pumped” A whole month? I wonder how much facial hair Justin Beiber can grow in a month… he might surprise us all and end up looking like a hairy beast. Is he trying to appeal to an older crowd now, adding cougars to his fan base? I can’t wait to see how he looks with a peach-fuzz, or a beard… |
| 8 Critical Signs That You Have Road Rage … Posted: 06 Mar 2011 07:57 AM PST Road rage can be a dangerous condition, one that can cause accidents, attacks and other mishaps on the road. It is important to remain calm and reasonable when driving for your safety and that of the people around you. Here are 8 critical signs that you have road rage. 1. You think anyone who overtakes you is disrespecting youIf you take it as a personal insult when anyone overtakes you, you could be suffering from road rage. Not all drivers have the same approach as you do towards driving and it is perfectly normal if someone overtakes you. It is not normal if you get angry about that and then try to teach them a lesson. 2. You make angry gestures at other driversAlmost everyone gets irritated with other drivers but the one's who make angry gestures are the ones who have road rage. It is perfectly normal to get annoyed when some one in front of you does something foolish but most people are able to just let it go. The ones who can't suffer from road rage. 3. You believe any bad driver is a womanIt is an irrational and unreasonable assumption that women are naturally bad drivers so if you find yourself in the section of people who think like this, chances are that this irrational thinking will apply to other driving scenarios. |
| Posted: 06 Mar 2011 06:29 AM PST According to the Associated Press, pop icon Lady Gaga is considering legal action against London-based The Icecreamists Limited for trademark infringement for the name of one of their products, Baby Gaga. In case you haven’t heard, this ice cream is made of human breast milk, and though some think it’s disgusting, customers lined up for hours last week to try it. In a letter from Lady Gaga’s law firm, Mishcon de Reya, the pop star asserts that The Icecreamists are ”taking unfair advantage of, and riding on the coattails of” Lady Gaga in naming their product and even in the way it’s served, by waitresses wearing outlandish and provocative outfits. Lady Gaga’s given The Icecreamists until Wednesday to pull the name, but, since the Westminster City Council has seized the breast-milk ice cream for “safety checks,” the point may be moot… stay tuned for updates! |
