| 7 Best iPhone Cases for a Mod Girl … Posted: 25 Mar 2011 11:33 AM PDT I resisted the allure of an iPhone for months, but finally my resolve broke when Verizon, my cell carrier, started offering the iPhone 4… and of course, once you have an iPhone, after you download the apps, you have to outfit it with a case that protects the phone, and of course gives it a style all your own. I found the exact right one for me at ModCloth, where, it turns out, there's an iPhone case for every mod girl… and here, my dear, are 7 of the best ones! 1. Hello, iPhone Case
 2. Bright Future iPhone Case in Pink
 3. Standing Ovation iPhone 3G/3GS Case

| 7 Ridiculously Expensive Restaurant Dishes … Posted: 25 Mar 2011 11:15 AM PDT If you gripe at the cost of groceries or don't eat out as often as you like because quality restaurant food is either not available or outside your budget, feast your thoughts on these beauteous concoctions of the culinary world. 1. World's most expensive bagel
Photo Credit: elakiri.com The humble bagel is elevated to the stratospheric price of $1,000 and is topped with white truffle cream cheese, goji berry infused Riesling jelly and gold leaf leaves. Well white truffle is the second most expensive food in the world, second only to caviar. A bagel suitable for Rothschild. 2. The hottest priced curry
Photo Credit: finance.oeeee.com The Samundari Khazana is the world's most expensive curry and was introduced by London's Bombay Brasserie to celebrate the DVD release of Slumdog Millionaire. It includes a whole Scottish lobster, quails egg shells, abalone, gold sea snails, Beluga caviar, white truffle, Devon crab and edible gold leaf and cost around $3,200. Pass the millionaire, hold the slumdog. 3. Perfect Pizza
Photo Credit: elakiri.com Back in 2006 one of the world's top pizza chefs, Maurizio Moreilli, auctioned a Valentine's Day Pizza on eBay. He flew to the winner's home in Rome and prepared the Pizza Royale 007 which contained venison medallions, Scottish smoked salmon, edible gold, champagne soaked caviar and lobster marinated in finest cognac. The winning bid was $4,200. Not bad for a man who plys his trade in Glasgow, the town famous for deep frying pizzas and Mars Bars. |
| Posted: 25 Mar 2011 11:03 AM PDT Denim is a wardrobe staple. It's important then, that you know how to properly look after your denim pieces. That way, you'll be able to get the most wear out of them. Below are just a few tips to help you extend the life of your denim clothes. 1. Read the Care Label
Photo Credit: The Dans Not all denim is designed the same. Some pieces are designed to fade, while for others washing may not be advisable. It's important to read the care instructions prior to wearing and washing each garment. They will provide the clearest instructions to help you best look after your denim. 2. Only Wash When Necessary
Photo Credit: tonyolm Avoid washing denim on a daily basis. Constant washing can lead to the denim fading and thinning. So it's advisable to only wash them when necessary. Air your denim out in between wears to keep them smelling fresh. 3. Hand Wash, If Possible
Photo Credit: sonia_gustafson If your denim is stretchy, hand washing will help keep the elasticity. A washing machine will only encourage denim to lose elasticity faster. Wash denim in lukewarm soapy water, paying special attention to the hems as this is wear dirt builds up the most. However, if you can't hand wash, using a washing machine on a delicate cycle is fine. |

| 7 Warm Ways to Spend a Cold Day … Posted: 25 Mar 2011 09:44 AM PDT When the outside world is a bit too cold to bear, you should have a plan to stay warm. Your plan should be enjoyable with a touch of productivity. You may want to invite friends or have a solo day to recharge. Here are just some indoor activities for you to catch up or just try out in these 7 warm ways to spend a cold day: 1. Movie Day
Photo Credit: nstiles42 Watching movies at home during the day can be a lot of fun. You feel free from routine and work and it can recharge your batteries. Invite friends over or enjoy your alone time to watch favorite movies or never before seen films. Netflix always helps in finding unknown films, documentaries, or my favorite, television show marathons. I once watched 5 seasons of The Office in a week and a half when I was between jobs, and I am not ashamed! 2. Brunch
Photo Credit: Daedalus42 The best way to spend an afternoon is with good friends cooking, eating, and maybe even enjoying a cocktail or two. Brunch is the perfect 'day-cation' to free you from your weekly stress and work schedule. My boyfriend and I like to host brunch at our new home. We have great daytime parties with good people and it is always a surprise to see who will show up next. 3. Clean
Photo Credit: ac-ps.com What better time to clean than when you don't want to be outside? Get caught up on organizing while you have the time inside to get it done. For me, washing dishes and doing laundry actually help relieve stress. When I clean my closet, it actually becomes a money maker as I sell my unwanted clothes, shoes, and bags to a local resale shop for store credit or cash. This could be a cool incentive to get you to clean your and your other half's mess more often. |
| 10 of My Favorite Eminem Spits … Posted: 25 Mar 2011 09:28 AM PDT I am a ginormous Eminem, and have been since before Infinity came out. I know that’s a controversial statement, because he’s a controversial artist, but that’s what of the things I love most about him, along with the intensity and depth of his evolution. I consider him just as much a writer as a rapper, and find brilliance and sharp cleverness in so many of his songs. When I was younger, his more comedic songs were my favorites, but since we’ve both gotten older (like we’re friends, you know – but I did used to shop at the infamous mall where he got in so much trouble!), those tastes have evolved. These are 10 of my most favorite Eminem spits now – some of them are pretty graphic, but then, it’s Marshall. 1. BeautifulBoth the song and the video came out when I still lived in Detroit, and the people there went wild – with good reason. Although the video is a testament to what is both beautiful and tragic about Detroit, the song itself is an anthem. Let’s forget the curse words for just a second. "Don’t let ‘em say you ain’t beautiful; they can all get f***ed, just stay true to you." Forgetting the language, how powerful is that? This song comes from the Relapse album, the first one, and that quickly become one of my top favorites. 2. Not AfraidAlthough I am an old school Eminem fan to the heart, I am crazy about his new stuff, and the entire Recovery album is a testament to that. Not surprisingly, "Not Afraid" is one of my favorite songs on this album. Raw power mixes with vulnerability, to the point where both the song and the video gives me chills. |
| Posted: 25 Mar 2011 09:24 AM PDT I've never met a pizza I didn't like, but I have met some pizzas that are better than others. I mean, I could eat pizza for every meal of every day for the rest of my life and be totally satisfied. The great thing about this country is that no matter where you go you can always find a place that makes a good pie. So, for your enjoyment, here's my top shelf for pizza joints you can find just about anywhere. 7. California Pizza KitchenPhoto Credit: americajr.com If you're into weird pizza topping combos this is probably the one for you. Pies from this joint come a little pricier than most of the others on this list, but you can trust that they're going to bring it when it comes to the volume and quality of all their crazy toppings. 6. Papa John's
Photo Credit: commons.wikimedia.org I have to be in a certain mood for Papa John's, but when I am, I dominate the Papa's recipe. Love him or hate him, you can't deny, no one does cheesy breadsticks like him. I almost like the breadstick/garlic dip combo more than I like the pizza. Individual garlic dip cups in every pizza box is pretty darn good idea too. 5. Godfather's Pizza
Photo Credit: michiexile Meet the greasiest pie on this list; maybe the greasiest pie I've ever encountered. If might be bad for you, but no way is it bad for the taste buds. Their pizza is great, but the real cherry on top of their menu is the dessert pizza. Roasted cinnamon crumbs and fried apples under icing…my mouth is watering as I type. |
| 10 Ways to Have Fun with Him … Posted: 25 Mar 2011 09:17 AM PDT Together, the two of you are never going to get bored, as long as you continue having fun together. Right now, I am going to help you out and give you 10 ways to have fun with him. 10. Go on a Road TripI believe it is always fun to go on a road trip with the guy you are in love with. It's always fun to travel in a car with your lover next to you. There are a lot of sweet conversations that happen in the front seat of a vehicle. 9. Play a Game TogetherPlaying a game together is a great idea. It is going to unleash that childish spirit in you. This is something that my husband and I enjoy doing together. 8. Make Music TogetherIf the two of you have a love for music, then you should try making some music together. You should not be shy while you are doing this. |
| 7 Amazing Women Sport Celebrities … Posted: 25 Mar 2011 09:08 AM PDT When I think of sports these days, I find it interesting to note the recent trend in increasing number of amazing women sport celebrities making their mark in history. So here's a list of women who have definitely increased the popularity of a sport and become an inspiration for millions of others around the world. 1. Anna Kournikova
Photo Credit: fimho.com Topping our list at number one spot of celebrity sports divas is Russian beauty Anna Kournikova. Renowned not so much for her game but more for her killer looks and sizzling love affairs, this girl is definitely a headliner. 2. Venus Williams
Photo Credit: tennis-in-depth.com Ranking World No:1 in women's singles by the Women's Tennis Association on three separate occasions, this Williams sister, is considered to be one of the greatest women's tennis players of all times. She was the first African American woman to become the World No 1 for the first time on February 25, 2002. 3. Serena Williams
Photo Credit: soraspy.com Not far behind her sister Serena Jameka Williams is worth a mention too on our list of amazing women sport celebrities. Winning more Grand Slam titles in singles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles than any other active female player, this Williams twin is just as phenomenal as her sister. |
| 7 Facts on George Washington … Posted: 25 Mar 2011 08:16 AM PDT I like finding random facts about people, places, or things and then sharing them with others. I thought these 7 facts on George Washington were rather interesting. Most people have heard about how he had wooden teeth and chopped down his father's cherry tree, but supposedly neither of these 'facts' are true. 7. He opposed political partiesBeing opposed to even the idea of political parties, Washington didn't belong to any. He was the only president who was elected without being affiliated with a party of any kind. 6. He was the only president to receive 100 percent of the votesBoth terms of presidency that Washington served were the result of a unanimous decision. Although he served two terms as president, Washington agreed to the second term with much reluctance. 5. He didn't live in the White HouseWashington oversaw the construction of the White House and laid the first cornerstone, but never lived in it. He signed an Act of Congress at the end of the year 1790, which declared that a 10 mile square was to be set aside for the construction of the White House. The construction was completed the year following Washington's death. |
| 8 of My Favorite Musicians Who Act … Posted: 25 Mar 2011 06:17 AM PDT Don’t you love multi-talented people? It’s really hard to find an actual, modern day Renaissance man or woman, but when you find someone who can do it all – or at least most of it – then it’s great. I’m talking about musicians who also take their turn on the stage and screen, and are really good at it. There are plenty who aren’t – Miley Cyrus and Britney Spears come to mind – but here are 8 of my favorite musicians who act and do it well. 1. Eminem
There is absolutely no question that Eminem is at the top of my list – and there he will stay until the end of my days. I know that, thus far, he’s only been in 8 Mile, but frankly that was good enough for me. Plus – and I am so excited about this – he’s got more films on the way. Besides that, you can argue that he acts within all of his videos, as well as within in each song, as he strives to bring his listeners into the story he creates. 2. Jennifer Hudson
Jennifer Hudson has one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard in my life – and her acting talent is just as formidable. Whether it’s a large role, like her turn in Dreamgirls, or something small but pivotal like starring as St. Louise from St. Louis in Sex and the City, she’s fantastic. And can I just add that every single one of her curves is gorgeous? 3. Beyonce
I can’t help but like a lot of Beyonce’s music; "Single Ladies" got in my head and stayed there … after Glee, but still. Like her Dreamgirls counterpart, however, she also has a tremendous talent. I think you’ll be seeing her in lots more movies – hopefully not all of them will be like Obsession which, though thrilling, was a little bit predictable. |

| 8 Creative Ways to Make Your Own Greeting Cards … Posted: 25 Mar 2011 03:20 AM PDT Greeting cards can get pretty expensive, especially if you have several to buy at one time. So why not make your own at home? Not creative enough on your own? Well, why not try one of these 8 creative ways to make your own greeting cards! 1. Cardstock and PaintsIf you like to paint and draw, making a beautiful greeting card at home can be as simple as folding some white cardstock in half, grabbing some paints and getting to work! Your paintings can be as simple as the three trees in the top photo, or more advanced. It’s your choice, remember? 2. Construction PaperBring out the kid in you and make childish cards out of construction paper. I’m serious! They can turn out so cute! For this past Valentine’s Day, my son and I used construction paper, fabric, lace, and glitter to make old fashioned valentines. They turned out so beautiful, and were a hit with everyone he gave one to. 3. Recycle Old CardsUsing the pretty pictures that have been on your own greeting cards, you can make new cards. Just cut and paste. Hey, it beats just throwing that $3 card in the trash can, right? |
| Lindsay Lohan Rejects Plea, Wants Trial… Posted: 24 Mar 2011 01:56 PM PDT TMZ is reporting that troubled starlet Lindsay Lohan has rejected a plea bargain and has decided to go to trial in the felony grand theft case in which she allegedly stole a pricey necklace from a Venice, California store.
According to unnamed sources, “Mean Girls” star Lohan wants the chance to prove her innocence, and will to go to trial to set the record straight. A preliminary hearing in front of Judge Stephanie Sautner is set for April 22, though Lohan did have until tomorrow to decide whether or not she wanted to take the plea deal. The terms of the plea deal would have placed Lohan on probation for 3 years, but Judge Sautner could then have jailed Lohan for violating her current probation. If Lohan does argue her case at trial successfully, and she does have a very good defense, she will likely not face any jail time at all, since, if she did not steal the $2,500 necklace, she did not violate her current probation. Have you seen the video footage from the jewelry store? What do you think? Is she innocent or guilty? Should she have taken the plea deal? |
| 5 Easy Sewing Projects for Beginners … Posted: 24 Mar 2011 12:58 PM PDT So you got yourself a new sewing machine and you cannot wait to get your crafting groove on. If you have never touched a sewing machine before, you can’t really expect to be making couture gowns right away. Most of the details of those gowns are done by hand, anyway. But getting back to the topic, you will want to start with easy sewing projects for beginners. Some of these will sound boring to you but trust me, they are needed for learning to sew straight, getting to know your machine, changing needles, etc., etc. 1. Curtains
Photo Credit: jennecy There are many types of curtains but I suggest you start with the simple kind with the curtain rod casing on top. This is a project that will take you less than an hour, measuring and cutting included. There is no need to consult a pattern; simply measure your window, cut your fabric, and go a-sewin! You may consult the curtains you already have in your house for ease of construction. To make your first project less boring, I suggest choosing a fun fabric or even embellishing the final product with scrap fabrics or lace. 2. Pillow CasePhoto Credit: bowena This is another project where a pattern will prove quite useless. Unless, of course, you want a complicated case or one with a zipper. If you are up for an adventure, you can try those, of course. However, to avoid a day of unnecessary cursing, I suggest a pillow case of the simple kind. Again, this will be done in under an hour. The essentials include the pillow and a cheery fabric of your choice. 3. ApronPhoto Credit: skinnylaminx A very easy version includes a rectangular fabric (edges sewn) and a 2-inch (width, not length) waistband that you can tie at the back. You can add pockets (again the simple kind). If you want your apron to look extra girly, you can add ruffles along the bottom. If you got yourself a ruffler, this would be a great opportunity to take it out for a spin. 4. Simple SkirtPhoto Credit: lisaclarke This is one of my go-to projects for a couple reasons. Firstly, this project is a great chance for me to make use of my smaller pieces of fabric. Another is that I just LOVE skirts. To sew this, the first steps are similar to sewing simple curtains, only in a much smaller scale, of course. In this case, the top casing is for the waist elastic and you will need two fabric pieces for the front and back of your skirt. 5. Tote BagPhoto Credit: futurowoman This is basically a pillow case with straps. This is one of the great easy sewing projects for beginners because you will learn about sewing a lining or a gusset. You can even use interfacing to make your bag look and feel sturdier. After giving these projects a go, you can then continue to making more complicated bags or clothing. There are wonderful websites and forums online where you can learn more on how to sew these easy sewing projects for beginners. One place I love is Craftster. What are you crafting this weekend, ladies? |
