Posted: 27 Mar 2011 11:44 AM PDT As women, we have nutritional needs that are quite different than those of men… while they seem to thrive on beer, hot wings, and pizza, with the occasional green thrown in for good measure, we need a little more well-balanced diet than that, or we'll pay a heavy penalty later on (and I don't just mean an unsightly muffin top)… here are 7 food rules for women… 1. Eat or drink your dairyAs we age, our bodies' store of calcium is depleted, leaving us with brittle bones, often leading to osteoporosis. That's why it's so important that, as young women, we get plenty of calcium to build that store. Calcium is best absorbed in conjunction with Vitamin D, and both, together, are found in most dairy products. Dairy can be fattening, I know, which is why it's important to eat and drink dairy that's marked as low-fat, like skim or 2% milk, yoghurt, and cheese. 2. Stop with the sodaHave you ever looked at the label on a bottle or can of soda? I mean, we all know it's loaded with sugar, and often caffeine, but other than water, do we know that's inside, or even how many calories are in there? The bad news is that as delicious as soda may be (it's my dietary equivalent of Kryptonite), it's incredibly nasty stuff, loaded with chemicals I can't even pronounce and high fructose corn syrup or artificial sweeteners, none of which our bodies know how to process. Soda is especially bad for women, who need the calcium to keep our bones strong… and don't need soda to sap it from our bodies… or cancer, which can be caused by some artificial sweeteners… yikes! 3. Color your plateThis is an easy rule to remember, and it's so important! Did you know that the more colorful your meal, the more healthful it is? Let's think about this — the reds, yellow, and greens that make a meal brilliant are the colors that signify a fruit or veggie that's loaded with valuable vitamins without all the nasty stuff we don't really need. Yum!
| 7 Weird and Wonderful Beauty Treatments … Posted: 27 Mar 2011 11:15 AM PDT We go to great lengths to defy age and prolong beauty and we subject our body and skin to all sorts to keep it looking tip top. We might also need our spiritual health looking after so visiting a spa or beauty salon is not alien to most of us I reckon, but just how many of this list would you try? 1. Skin Eating fish
Photo Credit: globalanni.wordpress.com These are very in right now in the UK. Little fish (garra rufa) are cropping up in pools in salons everywhere. You stick your feet in and the fish nibble at dead skin cells. Some Spas in the Far East are also now doing full immersion pools where the fishies can get at your whole body. The fish reputedly excrete an enzyme that may help with skin problems like acne. 2. Beer Spa
Photo Credit: passportmagazine.com In Germany, Czech Republic and Austria you can sit in a bubbling tub of warm beer. Apparently the yeast content aids complexion and relieves muscle stress. 3. Snake Massage
Photo Credit: zimbio.com If you visit Northern Israel be sure to pop along to the salon where you can pay to have snakes writhe all over your body to ease aching muscles and stiff joints. |
7 Almost Useless Organs and Body Parts … Posted: 27 Mar 2011 10:58 AM PDT Our process of evolution from simple single cell organisms to animals and finally humans wasn't quick and it certainly wasn't perfect. As a result of these primal roots, we now need to shave or wax and do many other not so interesting things. But, undesired "fur" isn't the only fault in our design! Oh no! There are many other organs and body parts that are either outdated or the risks of having them transcend potential benefits. Interested to know more? Well, that's why I've made this list of 7 almost useless organs and body parts: 1. Wisdom TeethWisdom teeth used to be very helpful back in times when our food didn't come packed in a tin can or specially prepared to be soft, but today… well, they are about as helpful as a third leg! I felt like I'm going to go crazy when I started getting them and that was only the beginning of my troubles. These teeth never grow to the size of a normal tooth and they turn bad very fast, so there isn't any point it keeping them. Plus, if they start growing in wrong directions, you'll have to have them cut out which is very, very, VERY painful! 2. TonsilsWell, unlike wisdom teeth that are completely useless, tonsils do have a certain function, although it isn't very important, especially if we consider all the problems people often have when their tonsils get infected. Now, if my mom has thought me right, tonsils are supposed to act as a barrier for all those harmful allergens and microorganisms threatening to enter our body through the mouth. Unfortunately, some people have very sensitive tonsils so they must remove them and that, of course, presumes a lot of pain. Some people are even born with three tonsils so you can only imagine how "useful" that must be!
Posted: 27 Mar 2011 10:53 AM PDT I can remember the days of DOS. If you can't, then you might not realize how good you have it, when it comes to the technological advancements that have propelled humans into the world of the Internet as we know it today. It was very difficult to remember all the coded commands necessary to work older computers. Today all you have to be able to do is know where your computer's power button is and how to click the correct buttons on the mouse. Here are 7 facts on the Internet that you might find interesting. 7. 17,000 website domains are added to the Internet each dayThis is an amazing number of domains added each day. I wouldn't be surprised if this number were to double in 5 years or less. The number of kids learning how to use a computer and the large number of computer-oriented jobs created each year will only boost the number of users. In turn, this will up the number of people utilizing the Internet for work and personal purposes and cause a much greater increase in the number of website domains added daily. 6. Businesses who use Interactive websites have a faster growth rateI know I've gotten spoiled when it comes to researching a business online. I have come to expect a company to have a website that I can peruse for further information or if I need questions answered. I tend to find it rather odd when someone says he/she works for a business that doesn't have a website. The web is such an excellent way to advertise to people all over the world. The stats I found about small and medium size businesses stated that these types of businesses have a growth rate that is 46 percent faster than those without Interactive websites. 5. Women in the US make up the majority of the blogging populationThe highest percentage of women bloggers also fall between the ages of 21 to 35. I wasn't surprised by these numbers, but probably because all the women bloggers I know fall into this age category. This seems to be the age group that contains women who are either just getting out of college or starting up a business that involves blogging or reaching a turning point in their life and decide to take up blogging.
8 Mean Things Women Do to Men … Posted: 27 Mar 2011 10:50 AM PDT Here is a list with 8 mean things women do to men described in it. I’ve seen a lot of mean things in my time and I know many of the following examples can easily go both ways; either women do them to men or men do them to women. I’m sure you’ve come across a few women in your lifetime who have played games with their men and done some of the mean examples I’ve listed below. Feel free to add your own examples in the comment section. 8. Ignore themSometimes it is necessary to ignore the antics of a man who is deliberately trying to impress you by displaying his wittiness that is coming off as cheesiness. However, women who intentionally ignore men they are supposed to be romantically involved with seems rather mean to me. A friend and I were just talking about this last night. He was telling me about a mutual friend of ours whose girlfriend completely ignores him (the mutual friend) and doesn’t show any affection whatsoever, yet he is determined to stay with her. I feel bad for the guy, but there’s nothing I can say to change his mind. 7. Ditch them when the girls come overI know girls need their space too, but I’m sure most guys feel a bit hurt when their girl wants to hang out with friends and doesn’t want him around too. When this happens all the time, I think it seems a bit mean. It might not be as bad if the gal and guy have a mutual agreement on this arrangement; she hangs with the girls and he leaves or he hangs with the guys and she leaves. 6. YellingYelling at someone to try to get your point across is never a good thing, I don’t care who you are. There’s nothing that will be proved by raising your voice to an excessively loud level, that can’t be formulated in a reasonable tone. I’ve seen women yell at their man in public, thinking it makes them appear more superior. I think this just shows they can’t control their anger and makes them appear more weak instead.
7 Cool Ideas for a Girls Night Out … Posted: 27 Mar 2011 10:28 AM PDT I think all of you need a girls night out. Having a girls night out is always a lot of fun. Of course, there are tons of things all of you could do together and that is what this blog is all about. I am going to toss some ideas your way and it is up to all of you to come up with a nice outing. Let me get started on the 7 cool ideas for a girls night out … 7. Movie NightI know, this one is traditional, but I believe that it will always be fun. There are many good movies that have come out lately that I am sure you and your friends would enjoy watching. Watching movies is a great time to reconnect with one another. Remember, it does not always have to be a "romantic" movie. Girls can go and watch horror movies as well. 6. Bowling NightA bowling night sounds great. If you have cosmo bowling in your area, then you should definitely check that one out. Cosmo bowling is a lot of fun. 5. Night on the BeachI always thought the beach was beautiful during the night (and day, for that matter). Perhaps you and the girls would like to go spend some time on the beach during your night out? Listening to the waves as you gaze up at the stars is a beautiful setting. See, you do not have to have the sunshine just to go to the beach.
7 Ways To Make A Good First Impression … Posted: 27 Mar 2011 09:32 AM PDT How do you make a good first impression? Walking into a room full of strangers. Does that sound intimidating to you? If so, you can relax knowing you are not alone. Many women are shy about meeting new people and may linger back in the shadows to avoid any contact with anyone they do not know. How do you over come that timid attitude and make a good first impression? Keep reading to find a few good tips… 1. Dress in a WOW OutfitNever wear something that you are not comfortable wearing. When your clothes don't fit you properly, it seems to make your stress levels rise as you worry over the tight belt or the short skirt you are unaccustomed to wearing. Wear your best, relax, and just be your self. Others will notice and it will make a good first impression. 2. Protray a Friendly, Open Body PostureBody language goes a long in saying how we really feel. Crossing your arms in front of sends out the message that you do not want anyone intruding. Stand with your shoulders relaxed and your hands gently laced in front of you. This posture says you are relaxed and eager to be warm, open, and friendly. 3. Don't Smile, LaughPeople can tell a fake smile from a true one. Instead of plastering your lips in an upward curve, tell a funny joke. This will make others laugh which in turn will put a real grin on your lips.

I have not, however, enjoyed all of them, and of course I would never recommend a book I didn’t enjoy! That being said, here are 8 classic books I do think everyone should read – not necessarily because they’re classic but just because they’re good! 1. Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen
2. Madame Bovary, by Gustave Flaubert
3. To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee

8 Simple Steps To Tie A Sari … Posted: 27 Mar 2011 09:09 AM PDT The traditional Indian dress, the sari, is considered one of the most elegant, flattering and sexy garments ever known. It is an established fact that saris make women look slimmer and if carried well can add on heaps of class. Finally knowing that it is just a sheet of cloth held together by some tucks can be a sexy thought. Here are 8 simple steps to tie a sari. 1. Pre-drape prepPrior to wearing the sari, you need to get into your blouse and underskirt. You also need to wear your shoes as nothing kills a sari than it being too short. Finally it is a good idea to complete your make up, hair and jewelry so that when the sari is draped, you are ready to walk out of the door. 2. Figuring out the sariThe next step is to figure out this garment. One end, the more elaborate side is called the pallu and the opposite end is where you begin the drape. Secondly the bottom of the sari is the section that contains an added material called the fall. Ensure this is on the inside bottom. 3. Tuck, wrap and tuckHold the sari in front of you and stand in front of a mirror. Ensure that the sari is just a couple of centimeters above the ground and tuck the other end into your underskirt. Wrap the fabric around your waist, tucking all the while until you get back to where you started.
Posted: 27 Mar 2011 08:31 AM PDT With today's hectic lifestyle, ladies, we're all bound to get a little stressed sometimes. It's impossible to be the superwomen we need to be without feeling the pressure every now and then. I've done a little research, girls, and I have good news. Your diet can play a role in helping you to stay calm: here's a list of 7 foods to combat stress. 1. OrangesWhen we get stressed, damaging free-radicals run riot in our bodies. These attack pretty much everything and are particularly harmful to the skin, but luckily, eating oranges will help to fight them off. In fact, any Vitamin C packed citrus fruit is a good option here, so stock up on grapefruits and lemons when you're feeling the pressure. 2. OatmealThere is something inherently soothing about porridge and, just for this reason, I think it's great anti-stress material. But, experts tell us, it has real benefits as well. When we're anxious, we often crave carbs and this is because they produce the happy hormone, serotonin. While stuffing your face with chips is not such a good idea, a healthy, wholesome bowl of oats will help to relieve stress without adding inches to your waistline. 3. BlueberriesBlueberries are delicious and jam packed with vitamins. They're also an excellent snack to nibble on when you're feeling stressed. Because they're full of anti-oxidants, they help to fight cortisol, a hormone your body produces when you're tense and anxious.
