7 Ways to Help a Friend Cope After Pregnancy Loss …

When you find out that your friend is pregnant, it is so easy to get swept up in the excitement that a new baby is going to be entering the world that we sometimes forget that life is very fragile and sometimes it slips away before it even has a chance to begin. If your friend suffers the devastation of a miscarriage, she will need you more than ever. Here are 7 ways to help a friend cope after pregnancy loss.

1. Be There

Friendship means that you are there during the bad times, as well as the good. Don't walk away simply because your friend is going through a bad time and does not want to party and play. Even if you don't know what to say, just be present.

2. Take Care of Her Physical Needs

Miscarriage is a painful experience, both emotionally and physically. Take time to be attentive to her physical needs by helping her around the house while she rests and recovers from the experience.

3. Be a Sounding Board

Your friend is going to need to talk things out at some point. When her little one died in the womb, so did many of her dreams of a son or a daughter. Be there to listen without interrupting and giving unsolicited advice.

7 Ways You Know Spring is on the Way …

So I don’t know if y’all noticed this or not, but I’m dying for spring, and lately I’ve been looking extra close for signs that spring is on the way. So far, I’ve had little luck, but I’m still hopeful. I have to be, or I’m seriously going to go stir crazy with cabin fever or something. Maybe all of you can help me out, by keeping an eye out for some of these telling ways you know spring is on the way.

1. Blooming Flowers

Once the flowers start to bloom, even if it’s just dandelions, you know things are getting close. At this point, I would even settle for a little patch of green grass. I’ll even take scrub flowers and weeds on the side of the road! But what I really can’t wait for is the blooming bright sight of Easter lilies.

2. Melting Snow

I mean, when the snow really starts to melt, that’s when you know spring is coming. Right now, the snow is melting because it’s raining, but there are still place where it’s stacked up as high as three feet. Our dachshund still gets lost in it, it’s nearly taller than me, and it just doesn’t count!

3. Vibrant Colors

You also know spring is on the way when you finally start seeing brighter colors. Of course you start seeing flowers, green grass, and verdant leaves on the trees. However, the sky also takes on its own signature, brilliant shade of sapphire blue, and people themselves start giving into vibrancy and wearing really lovely colors, as if they’re busting out of hibernation.

7 Fun Things To Do When You are III …

When you're ill, either you're completely out of it and too weak to do anything, or you're a little under the weather and find yourself getting insanely bored. If you're going through the second phase, then you're probably in need of some ideas as to how to pass the time. Here are 7 fun things to do when you are ill.

1. Watch a movie

This is the time to catch up on all the movies and TV shows that you have missed. Most are available online and can be ordered or downloaded directly to your TV or computer. Choose the favorites that you always wanted to watch and sit back with your blanket to enjoy this much needed 'me' time.

2. Browse the Internet

The Internet can be a great way to pass the time. Sit in bed with your laptop and use the time to read up on things that interest you. If you are thinking of redoing your apartment, you can get some excellent ideas. If you are into celebrity gossip, again this is a useful source.

3. Read a book

There is no better way to pass the time when you're sick than reading a good book. The problem most often is finding a good book to read but if you do, then lose yourself in it. As long as you are well enough to read, it is the best thing you can do with your time.

Top 10 iPhone Apps …

Everyone has an iPhone these days, and that's precisely why people are going app crazy. There is an app for basically everything. Some have revolutionized the way we live our lives. Other have revolutionized the way we don't live our lives. Either way, here are the Top 10 iPhone apps in my world.

10. Tango

Facetime is basically the videophone feature that we've been seeing in futuristic sci-fi movies for years, and now it's here! The only problem is that there's a catch…you have to have access to WiFi. Well, not anymore. Tango allows you to Facetime chat using the 3G Network. Let the Jetson-talk begin!

9. Urbanspoon

Have you ever been sitting around with your significant other trying to decide where to eat, but neither of you can decide on the perfect option. This app will settle that argument. It compiles user reviews on basically every restaurant in your town, and it's way more expansive that you'd think.

8. Fandango

Trying to make a spur of the moment movie decision? Fandango can help. It allows you to check show times for any movie at almost any theater.

7 Architectural Wonders of 2010 …

A building can be so much more than just a solid structure on a landscape. It can be a stunning combination of creativity and design. Every year, we see new architecture that challenges human imagination. Here is a list of my favorite architectural wonders of 2010.

1. Guanzhou TV tower, China

The Guanzhou TV tower in China has been called 'The Twisted Lady' as well as 'The Supermodel' of the architectural world. According to the architect, Mark Hemel of Information Based Architects, most buildings are masculine in nature and he wanted to create a distinctly feminine building. Thus, came into existence the hourglass figure of the 2000 feet tall TV tower.

2. Soccer City, Johannesburg, South Africa

Multi-colored and modeled after a gourd called calabash, which is used not just as food, but also a beer stein, a musical instrument and a motorcycle helmet, this 94,000-seater soccer stadium is a sight to behold and indeed one the architectural wonders of 2010.

3. Design Museum, Holon, Israel

The Design Museum, designed by Ron Arad, has a stunning expressionist design which makes use of huge steel ribbons of varying shades of reddish-orange color, to create an 'immersive' structure. The ribbons are not merely decorative, they also serve practical purposes. For instance, one ribbon connects two levels of the building.

Top 7 Industries for Women …

Top 7 Industries for Women …

The job market of today is no longer run solely by men. Women have been able to dominate many industries. Most of the businesses ran by women were also founded by women, which I think is awesome. There are still some jobs that are predominately sought after by men, but I can think of a few industries where women rule. Here are what I consider to be the top 7 industries for women today.

7. Interior Design

Women seem to have an eye for the best way to make a room or home as comfortable and as fashionable as possible. Interior design includes choosing the right colors to compliment specific patterns seen in wallpaper or furniture pieces. It can also include assisting in the rearrangement of furnishings and knick knacks to make the most of present space. There are many aspects of the interior design industry that allow women to use their natural talent of seeing right away how something can be made more aesthetically pleasing.

6. Food Service

Providing people with nourishment tends to be a very maternal aspect that most woman have. You don’t have to know how to cook to have this aspect either. There are plenty of women who can’t even cook a box of macaroni and cheese, but they still want to make everyone comfortable with good food. It always seems that so many problems are solved with food. Nerves are eased with comfort food, serious discussions are had over large meals, and nagging issues are talked about over rich desserts or lavishly decorated cups of coffee.

5. Fashion

I see more sloppily dressed men than I do women. It seems women pay more attention to details when it comes to clothing. Ladies are not only the fashion models strutting up the runway most of the time, but they are also usually the ones to organize the entire event. Creating clothing, wearing clothing, buying clothing, you name it and if it involves clothing, women tend to excel at it.

9 Ways to Promote Your Business …

9 Ways to Promote Your Business …

Is it your dream to launch your own business, or do you have one already? Chances are, especially in this economy, you're looking to promote that business, whether it's a coffee shop or you sell handcrafted items, but how to spread the word without breaking the bank? I've spent decades at the head of several small businesses, all of them successful, so I can help! Here are9 ways to promote your business, and some of them are completely free (which is always in budget).

1. Facebook

Right now, there are more than 600 million active Facebook users across the globe, and I'll bet some of them are just dying to buy whatever it is you're offering. If you have a flat zero advertising and marketing budget, create a Facebook page for your business! If managed properly and professionally, it can be an amazingly effective tool, getting you more face time with your existing clients, and exposing new potential clients and customers to your products and services. The key is to provide new, interesting information in a casual, upbeat way, and to offer specials to the people who "like" your business's page on Facebook. Facebook also offers advertising for a small fee, which is another great, inexpensive, and effective way to connect with new and existing customers.

2. Twitter

Much like Facebook, Twitter offers you the opportunity to reach potential and current customers as often as you like, free of charge. It's important to keep your tweets professional and upbeat, and to offer specials once in a while. Remember, if someone is following you on Twitter, they want frequent updates, so before you start tweeting, make sure you're committed to it.

Top 7 Bad Type of Employers …

Top 7 Bad Type of Employers …

I've been fortunate enough to not have a whole slew of bad employers during my lifetime. I've listed the top 7 bad type of employers that I could come up with. If you've had any of these types of employers, then feel free to share how you handled this boss.

7. Wishy-Washy

Employers who fall into this category are often lacking the ability to make a decision and stick to it. They also tend to have a very weak character. These employers are often very meek and afraid of making others angry by making the wrong decision, hence their indecisiveness.

6. Manipulative

Being able to manipulate things is sometimes considered a strength, but not when the things being manipulated are employees. Bosses who feel the need to use employees for their personal benefit or entertainment are often considered and undesirable type of person. Controlling a person by insidious means is what most manipulative employers feel needs to be done, in order for them to be at an advantage.

5. Unfocused

It's difficult to take an employer serious when he/she doesn't know where the business is actually supposed to be heading. A boss who is unfocused is unable to become centered on anything at all. This makes it hard for him/her to provide proper leadership to the employees he/she is managing.

FDA Proposes Calorie Counts on Menus…

In a press release posted on their website yesterday, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a pending proposal that would require restaurants to post calorie counts on their menus, and they’re looking for public comment on their idea.

If you’ve ever tried eating out while on a diet, you know how hard it can be to make a healthy choice at your favorite restaurant. Often, the waiter doesn’t know how many calories are in the dish you want, and unless you feel like checking the restaurant’s website before you head out for the night, or checking while you’re deciding what to order, you won’t know how badly you’re ruining your diet until your next weigh-in.

The proposal would also require calorie and nutrition labeling at vending machines.

In the press release, Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius explained the FDA’s decision to move forward with the proposals like this:

"These proposals will ensure that consumers have more information when they make their own food choices. Giving consumers clear nutritional information makes it easier for them to choose healthier options that can help fight obesity and make us all healthier."

To read the entire press release, or to comment on the proposal, visit the FDA website… and leave a comment here, too! I’d love to hear what you think of this proposal! I personally think it’s a great idea. The more we know about the food we eat, the better off we’ll be… and I don’t think it will be too expensive for restaurants to implement.

7 Causes of Motor Accidents …

However much automobile technology advances, driving is still a human activity and therefore is subject to human capability. Unfortunately, every year, there are thousands of fatalities due to traffic accidents and even more, possibly countless numbers of injuries, not to mention accidents where the only damage is done to the car. Here are some of the major causes of motor accidents.

1. Alcohol

Drunk driving is the primary worldwide cause of motor accidents. Alcohol can blur vision and inhibit clear thinking and even in small amounts response times may be impaired without you realising it. There are limits and guidelines but reactions to alcohol are completely individual so what's the best way to ensure you are safe ? NEVER drink and drive

2. Carelessness and disrespect

Road signs and traffic laws are not there to inconvenience the driver but to ensure that roads are safe for all users including pedestrians. They control traffic flow and also provide guidance on road and driving conditions including permanent features such as bends, inclines and junctions. Ignoring road signs, speed limits and red lights is one of the top causes of accidents.

3. Lack of focus

Many accidents are caused simply by drivers not concentrating on the road. So much of the driving experience is watching what other drivers are doing and maybe other non-driving factors such as a sudden weather change, unexpected obstructions or someone running in front of you. You can't assume that everyone is fully aware of what they are doing, as quite clearly, often they are not. Stop daydreaming and if you're having a conversation with a passenger, this is one time when eye contact is not appropriate.
