Posted: 18 Apr 2011 10:56 AM PDT Most people can list at least three types of phobias including the ones that involve height, spiders, small spaces, blood or even strangers. Unfortunately, this list gets updated very often and you'd actually be surprised to know how many different phobias there are! Some of the reasons people fear certain things are quite rational but there are always that few, totally bizarre, lesser-known phobias that are too funny to be taken seriously and too serious to start cracking jokes about them. Interested to know more? Well keep reading because this post contains 7 strange, very real phobias that definitely fall under the category of lesser-known phobias. 1. NomophobiaTech revolution has brought us more than just new ways of communication; we also have new phobias like fear of being unable to use your cell phone to communicate with others. Yup, this phobia may sound bizarre but it's very real and it even has a medical name – nomophobia. People suffering from nomophobia won't leave the house without their cell phone, they will probably even take it to bathroom and, if you happen to get caught in a place with no cell phone coverage in the company of a friend suffering from this phobia, you're about to witness some major freaking out! 2. MetrophobiaWell, if you though Nomophobia is the one and only one on the list of strange, a bit bizarre and definitely lesser-known phobias, you're in for a big surprise. Nope, a person suffering from metrophobia isn't afraid of metros or subways, the thing that make this person's heart rate go up is listening or reading POETRY! Yup, I know… you definitely didn't see that coming!
8 Ways to Lower Your Cholesterol … Posted: 18 Apr 2011 10:54 AM PDT Everyone over the age of 20 ought to have their cholesterol checked once every five years… we all know that. But what to do if your cholesterol is too high (over 200 total, or over 100 of LDL)? It can be confusing, and scary, but it doesn't have to be. Here are 8 relatively easy ways to lower your cholesterol, protect your heart, and be healthier overall. 1. Have a goal in mindIn order to reach a low cholesterol goal, you have to have one first! Talk to your doctor about what a reasonable goal might be, and ask for specifics — does she want you to lower your overall cholesterol count, or just one part? What is the exact number she wants you to reach, and in how much time? Once you have a specific goal in mind, it's time to get going on achieving it! 2. Get physical!Exercise can not only lower your LDL ("bad") cholesterol, it can even increase your HDL ("good") cholesterol, so get up, and get moving! Even a brisk walk counts as exercise… don't overdo it, but if you're looking to lower your cholesterol, exercise is an important part of the plan. 3. Avoid saturated fatsSaturated fats are loaded with cholesterol, so avoid them, and instead eat a diet that focuses more on leaner choices. For instance, rather than slathering your morning muffin with butter, eat whole wheat toast with margarine.
| Posted: 18 Apr 2011 10:26 AM PDT My friends and family tease me for having too much black in my wardrobe, and while I can't argue, I can try to change my left-over goth ways. But rather than set aside my widow's weeds, I've started my fashion make-over by adding bright accessories. Adding a new accessory can make over an entire outfit, even one based heavily in black, so until I get the courage (and the funds) to add a rainbow of colors to my wardrobe, I'll keep adding bright new accessories, like these! 1. My Cherry Cherie Ring
2. Grovestand on the Go Tote
3. Highlight-Her Necklace

8 Reasons To Quit Your Day Job … Posted: 18 Apr 2011 10:03 AM PDT Quitting your day job is a big decision. It would not be surprising if you would be racked with doubts and unsure of the decision you should make. Here is a list of 8 reasons to quit your day job. If you can relate to any or all of them, then you know that your decision to quit is the right one. 1. No work/life balanceWe work so we can live, not vice versa. If you find that your life has become all about work, then there is certainly a problem here. If you are unable to take the time out to do the things you want to do with your life, then perhaps quitting your day job and making a fresh start is the best decision you can make. 2. No family timeIf you find that you are inundated with work and that you have absolutely no time for your family, then you ought to reconsider your job. Especially if you have children, you need to remember that they will be young only once and that you should be spending as much time with them as possible. 3. Too much stressThis is certainly one of the most important reasons to quit your day job. If you find that you are getting too stressed out at work, then it is not the right work for you. Long term exposure to high stress can affect your health seriously and it is just not worth it.
7 Things You’ll Miss About Winter … Posted: 18 Apr 2011 09:47 AM PDT We all get kind of over winter while it's here: the rain, the cold and the constant covering up. But I'll bet that once it's gone and the sun is firmly back in the sky, there'll be little things about the icy months that you'll think about nostalgically. I've had a think and put together my own list of 7 things to miss about winter. 1. TightsUnless you're a super prepared summer sun worshipper and you've been bronzing it up on a sun bed since winter first rolled around, chances are that you're looking a little peaky. And it's not only skin tone that's a problem: in winter, let's be honest, most of the girls I know let their shaving and leg waxing routines lapse a little. There's always a period at the beginning of summer when I think a lot of us wish we could go on wearing our trusty tights; getting winter legs in shape can be quite task! 2. Hot ChocolateThere are few things more comforting that a steaming mug of hot chocolate on an icy day, complete with froth and plenty of marshmallows. While summer certainly has it's own set of great beverages, I always kind of miss that soothing, chocolatey warmth. 3. Boots(!)This is a big one for me. I love boots. It's kind of a problem … I have to force myself to buy other (less warm) shoes. While I'm also a big fan of summer and sandals, I'm always pretty sad that those gorgeous suede ankle tappers have to stay in the cupboard.
7 Tips for Getting Back in the Mood After a Pregnancy … Posted: 18 Apr 2011 09:43 AM PDT Having a baby takes a lot out of any woman, no matter how much of a Super Mom she wants to be. It’s always exciting to bring home a new baby and be completely enthralled around this tiny being. When you’re wrapped up with caring for an infant, it’s easy to forget the sex life you used to have. Usually your other half hasn’t forgotten though! Here are 7 tips for getting back in the mood after a pregnancy. 7. Take time for yourselfFor being as tiny as they are, newborns can really wear a person out. They are very demanding and you can only do so much without completely wearing yourself down. Take some time to enjoy a bit of peace and quiet for yourself. Hire a babysitter you trust, so that you won’t worry the entire time you are out and about. Even if all you do is take a couple of hours and sit out in the sunshine and sip some lemonade, take the occasional break to revive yourself. 6. Involve your partner in care of the new babyThere’s no reason you should feel that you have to take care of the baby all on your own. You didn’t make this tiny being on your own, did you? Include your honey in caring for the baby so that you don’t feel so separated from one another. The baby should bring you two together closer, not drive you apart. Enjoy snuggling in bed with baby in the middle and whisper to one another. It’s a great way to connect without missing out on baby-time. 5. Find ways to relaxTake a nap when the baby does, so you’re well-rested later on. Get a sitter and go for a stroll around the block a couple of times or get one of those fancy strollers made especially for jogging and take baby with you. Enjoy a bubble bath after the baby is in bed so you will be nice and relaxed for your honey later on.
7 Different Dining Experiences … Posted: 18 Apr 2011 09:42 AM PDT When we talk about dining, most cultures in the world will either think of a dining table and chairs or sitting cross legged on the floor. There are some restaurants in the world which have turned this idea on its head and created some unique and bizarre dining experiences. Here is a list of 7 different dining experiences. 1. Utter darknessIf you have ever wondered what it would be like to eat food in utter darkness, now you can find out. The Nocti Vagus Dark Restaurant in Berlin, Germany allows you to experience eating food in complete darkness. The most unique thing about this restaurant is that the food is served by waiters who are completely blind, but specially trained for the job. 2. Body platterThis sure is one of the most unique and different dining experiences. At Hadaka Sushi, a sushi restaurant in Los Angeles, USA, you can eat food off the body of a model. The model lays down and tries to stay as still as possible, while patrons eat food that is laid on her body atop banana leaves and flowers. 3. Anger managementRising Sun Anger Release Bar in Nanjing, China definitely offers one of the most different dining experiences in the world. It allows you to work off steam while eating so that you can enjoy the food without the stress. You are allowed to throw food, smash plates as well as punch the waiters and staff. Don't worry, they are well trained in their jobs and you won't be sued.

7 Tips for Dealing with an Impossible Boss … Posted: 18 Apr 2011 08:57 AM PDT Probably every single one of you reading this has had a bad experience with a bad boss. Bad bosses are everywhere. I don't know where they come from or what makes them bad. Like bad wine, bad dogs, bad boyfriends, and bad takeout, they're just there. However, every bad boss has a good side; even if you can't get through to it, there are still lots of tips for dealing with an impossible boss that can make your professional life easier. 1. Don't Be EmotionalDepending on what kind of traits the person has, there are different tips for dealing with an impossible boss. Often, however, a really bad boss possesses character traits that lead him or her to be harsh or overly critical. In those instances, the best thing you can do is keep your emotions in check. Don't respond to that behavior emotionally, because that can lead to worse abuse. It can even become an ego thing, and you don't want that kind of clash with your boss. 2. Plan BWhen dealing with a bad boss, you're likely to fear any kind of confrontation or discussion. That's typical and understandable, so it's always a good idea to have several game plans, just in case things don't go as expected. Your Plan B may involve knowing that you've secured another job before talking to your boss about a touchy subject, or you may simply come into a meeting with several different possible strategies. 3. Discuss, Don't ConfrontSpeaking of confrontations, don't. You never, ever want to have a confrontation with a difficult boss. If he or she is critical of you, don't immediately jump on the defensive. That kind of confrontation is going to lead to very bad things. It may gall you to do so, but counter criticism by asking for advice. Your boss may simply have a different way of doing things.
And Today’s Celeb Birthdays Are… Posted: 18 Apr 2011 05:37 AM PDT If today is your birthday, you share it with loads of interesting celebrities, including America Ferrera, Kourtney Kardashian and Conan O'Brien. Happy birthday! “Ugly Betty’s” Ferrera is 26 today. Kourtney K. is 31, and is, according to reports, completely obsessed with decorating her new home. Last but not least, one of my favorite comedians, Conan O’Brien, is 47. I’m so glad he’s back on network TV… and that he still tweets. He’s even funnier on Twitter than on TV! Happy birthday, America, Kourtney, and Conan… and you too, if it’s your birthday! Top image source: data.whicdn.com
