| Posted: 19 Apr 2011 11:25 AM PDT Do you dislike your job? Here's a way to put it into perspective. I'm not going to be crass and say you should be thankful you have one but rather that thanks to both technological advancement and social change a surprising number of jobs have simply become obsolete and have phased out. In many cases automation is to blame as machines can do things faster, smarter and more cheaply than humans. Some current jobs are on the decline but here are 7 jobs that no longer exist. 1. LamplighterBefore our streets were fitted with electrical lighting, the lamplighter was employed to go round each dusk and light the gas lamps and then again at dawn to extinguish them. 2. TypesetterAnother job that no longer exists is that of a typesetter. This was someone employed to load a printing press with the tiles that made up the piece of work to be printed. It was a job done at newspapers and in other commercial printers. 3. Switchboard operatorAlthough the job of switchboard operator changed dramatically when the switch exchange took over from those boards where someone used to have move plugs and cables about, the job in some form still existed right up to the 1980s. Since then though digital exchanges spelled the demise of switchboard operator and it is a job that no longer exists. |
| 10 Tips to Be a Natural Beauty … Posted: 19 Apr 2011 11:19 AM PDT With more and more women waking up to the harmful effects of using too many chemicals and creams on their face, there has been a shift in the perception of beauty. Nowadays women don't aim to be just beautiful…they wish to be called a 'natural beauty' – someone to whom beauty comes effortlessly – like it was a gift from nature herself. Well, effortlessly or not, here are 10 tips that will help you look more like a natural beauty and less like a decked up Barbie doll. Have fun pampering yourself! 1. Make Blemishes Disappear HomeopathicallyThe two best things you can use to zap blemishes out of existence are tea tree oil and arnica. The antibacterial property of the first and the anti-inflammatory property of the second when combined together are deadly for those blemishes that are harassing you. 2. Grapes for Radiant SkinThat ever elusive radiant complexion can be yours with the help of the fruit acids in grapes. Cut them into halves and exfoliate your face with them using the cut sides. 3. Fight Harmful UV-raysIf you want your sunscreen to work better, apply a moisturizer that contains black tea extract before. It is great for counteracting the harmful effects of the deadly UV-rays and helps reduce sunburns as well. |
| 10 Phrases that Make a Better Fight … Posted: 19 Apr 2011 10:53 AM PDT Every couple fights, but the key is to fighting right. I know that sounds like an oxymoron, but there are ways to fight right. In fact, you can even use some phrases that make a better fight. That also sounds a little confusing, but what I mean is that, during the course of an argument, there some things you can say that will make the discussion stay on course, so it doesn’t veer off into the wrong direction and end up hurting you or your partner. Take a look! 1. "I feel unappreciated."Often, this is the key to a fight – one partner or the other doesn’t feel appreciated, or feels at least like their views and opinions are unappreciated. This can cause the argument to blow out of proportion in no time at all. Simply taking the time to voice your feelings, however, can derail an argument and lead it into a calm discussion. 2. "I want to take back what I just said."Everyone is guilty of saying something they don’t mean during an argument. I do it more times than I care to count. Sometimes, that can cause things to run out of control. However, if you’re willing to sit back, replay what you just said, and rescind it, that can go a long way toward diffusing the situation. 3. "I’m overreacting about this."Knowing when you are overreacting is important as well. I think everyone’s guilty of this at least some of the time too. By pointing it out, you can help your partner realize what makes you overreact, and he or she can work on not pushing those buttons. Often, voicing how you feel will stop the fight in its tracks. |
| 8 Reasons Cats Make Great Companions … Posted: 19 Apr 2011 10:49 AM PDT I've had cats for several years, and I sometimes think I prefer living with them to living with people (though it depends on the people … some are okay!). In fact, I wouldn't be without cats in my home. For me, they are the perfect pets, and indeed they make wonderful companions. Here's why I think that cats are great company. 1. UndemandingA cat doesn't really ask for much, aside from food, a bit of fuss, and somewhere warm to sleep. They're the perfect pet for someone who leads a busy life, and where the house is empty during the day. Most cats will be too busy sleeping to notice that you've actually been absent for the last ten hours. 2. Calm PresenceOkay, so there are times when my cats have a mad moment, or I shout 'Will you two stop fighting!!' But on the whole, they are pretty relaxed and as cats do, spend most of their time asleep. It's very calming to have a sleeping cat next to you, as one of mine is doing at this very moment. 3. SensitiveCats can actually be pretty tuned in to your mood or feelings. If I am down or stressed, one of my cats will usually come and sit with me or on my lap (not something they do as a rule). That simple act of companionship is very touching. |
| 7 Actors That Seem Partially Crazy … Posted: 19 Apr 2011 10:40 AM PDT I am not making fun of the following actors that seem partially crazy. Some celebrities seem to live on a different plane of existence than the rest of us. Maybe it's the money in their Swiss bank accounts or maybe it's the fact that they are constantly surrounded by people who tell them how amazing they are. Either way, they do some weird stuff sometimes and please do not take this article the wrong way. I wish they would pull it together and show the world they really aren't crazy. I mean we all go through hard times when we do things we regret, right? Anyway, Here are 7 actors that seem partially crazy. 1. Charlie Sheen
Lately Charlie Sheen is the king of crazy. From his cancelled hit show to the gaggle of one liner laced interviews he's done lately, this guy is proving to be nuts. He's claimed to have a 10,000 year old brain and also to have tiger's blood flowing through his veins. Apart from that he got fired and is demanding a $1 million dollar per episode raise to come back! If that works out I'd definitely call that WINNING! 2. Mel Gibson
I feel bad for Mel. He blows up on a cop and makes racist comments a few years ago and then just when his career was starting to rebound his ex-wife releases tapes of him screaming obscenities at her over the phone. I'll bet Mad Max is missing the Thunderdome right about now… 3. Gary Busey
Sometimes people say things that make you just sit and scratch your head for days and days. This guy is one of them celebs that I can't understand. Maybe he has always been that way, but some of the stuff he's said i sos out there. His Busey-isms from his short-lived reality show are comic genius, but this guy's career fell off the stage for a reason. |
| 7 Things You Should Keep in Your Beach Bag … Posted: 19 Apr 2011 10:35 AM PDT Summer is on its way in the northern hemisphere! It's nearly time to break out the bikinis and brave the beach. A day in the sun can be ruined if you don't have the right kit with you though, ladies. To make sure you don't leave any essentials at home, I've put together a list of 7 things you should keep in your beach bag. 1. Sunblock
What a no-brainer! Sunblock is absolutely the most important thing you should bring to the beach – after your bikini perhaps. There's nothing worse than that violently red glow and no one wants sore stinging skin for a week. Bring a high factor for your face and a slightly lower one for the rest of your body, and make sure both are waterproof so you won't need to reapply after every singly splash. 2. Water
Spending the day sweating it out under the glaring sun will leave you dehydrated. To replace the fluids you've lost throughout the day, it's important that you drink water regularly so make sure the bottle you pack is pretty big and will last over a number of hours. Invariably, beach snacks and drinks are expensive so bringing your own water is a money saver too! 3. A Spacious Beach Towel
Stretching out in the sand rather than on it just doesn't sound quite as comfortable, ladies. Bring a large, bright beach towel in your bag. Keep your eyes open for very thin variations – these can be rolled up easily and aren't so bulky to carry as the ordinary, fluffy version. |

 2. Quatrefoil Headband

Eyelet can be much more casual, so it's very versatile, and can be worn in so many ways! Don't believe me? Keep reading, my dear! Here are 7 ways to wear eyelet… especially this spring! 1. Eyelet Oxfords
 2. Eyelet Lace-Ups
 3. Stippled Slingbacks

| 8 Reasons Why You Need A Hobby … Posted: 19 Apr 2011 09:53 AM PDT We are all so busy today, that we hardly have the time to pursue a hobby. Times when people pursued hobbies like stamp collecting or writing poetry seem to be in the long lost past. But, having a hobby is very important to leading a well balanced life. Here are 8 reasons why you need a hobby. 1. It's a stress busterThis is perhaps one of the most relevant and important reasons why you need a hobby. Our stress-filled lives could surely do with the refreshing break that pursuing a hobby can provide us with. 2. Develop a multi faceted personalityYou may notice that more and more our lives are becoming just about our work and family. There is hardly anything else that is interesting to us and about us. Pursuing a hobby will help you create a multi-faceted personality that people will find interesting. 3. Make new friendsPursuing a hobby is one of the best ways to make new friends. When you have a hobby, it becomes very easy to get in touch with people who share your interests. You will find that suddenly your life is filled with new and interesting people who you can really talk to about your hobby. |
| 9 Benefits of Listening to Music … Posted: 19 Apr 2011 09:53 AM PDT I think I would actually go crazy if I couldn't listen to music. I surround myself with music all day long and as much as possible even when I'm not at home. I've listed 9 benefits of listening to music in the post below. Take a look at them and see if you have some additional benefits that you can think of. I'm all for some peace and quiet from time to time, but I'd much rather be listening to music! 9. Lowers heart rateClassical music is very calming for most people. Being able to lower a person's heart rate with the use of music is much better than relying on medication for the same thing. A lower heart rate usually coincides with a calmer disposition. The human body isn't made to withstand a constant heart rate that is excessively rapid; it puts too much stress on the body. 8. Reduces painEndorphins are released while listening to music you enjoy, thus taking your mind off of any pain you might be feeling. Wouldn't it be great if doctors could prescribe certain types of music that would alleviate pain as well as expensive and sometimes addictive pain medication? 7. Promotes sleepMy husband cannot get to sleep without listening to music. We have the computer set to a station that plays soothing music all night long. I used to have a difficult time going to sleep with music playing in the background, but I think it was because of the type of music I was trying to sleep to. I found that listening to music that doesn't contain any words or specific drum beats puts me right to sleep. |
| Happy Birthday, Hollywood Hotties! Posted: 19 Apr 2011 03:44 AM PDT There are so many hot celebrities that share a birthday today, it almost doesn’t seem fair to the rest of the calendar! It’s the birthday of Hayden Christensen, Kate Hudson, James Franco and Ashley Judd. Happy birthday, hotties! Hayden Christiansen is 29 today. He’s best known, of course, for playing a brooding pre-Darth Vader Anakin Skywalker in the “Star Wars” movies, and next year, he’ll be starring in a new movie called “Money for Nothing.” Kate Hudson is 31 today, and I can’t wait to see her in “Something Borrowed.” I loved the book, and the movie looks true to the story! And James Franco… he’s one of my favorite actors, starring in one of my favorite movies, “Pineapple Express.” His newest movie, “Her Highness,” looks completely hilarious, too… I really want to see it! And last but not least, the lovely Ashley Judd is 42. She’s slated to appear in three new movies in the next few months, one of them made for TV. Happy birthday, Hollywood hotties! |

Since Easter is already this weekend, I thought it would be fitting to give you here baking and cooking projects fit for the holiday. Hopefully, you’ll still have time to buy the ingredients needed for these recipes. Don’t worry, most of these Easter treats to make are very easy to tackle. 1. Egg in the Nest

I’ve always loved the aroma of almost-burning bread. 2. Easter SandwichAnother cute concoction from Cute Food for Kids. You will be torn between gobbling up the chick or just admiring it in all its cute ways. Any kid (or kid at heart) who loves cheese would surely love this Easter sandwich. 3. Peeps CupcakeThis is one of the Easter baking and cooking projects that will require time spent with the oven. If you live near a Target, go out and get some edible Easter grass RIGHT NOW. 4. In other words, these bunny cookies will make your dreams come true. They are fun to make, too! 5. Peep PopsAnother Easter dessert idea that belongs to the ZOMG-too-cute category.
