| Posted: 20 Apr 2011 11:16 AM PDT Exotic pets can be a huge responsibility and, if you're thinking about getting one of those to keep you company, I bet you've already consulted tenths of websites explaining all the do's, don'ts and things you must consider before getting one. Now, I won't be dealing with those today, as that is your part of the job, I am, however, going to give you some info on these following 7 creatures many people consider the best exotic pets ever: 1. Sugar Gliders
These cuddly, tiny creatures, also known as pocket pets, will bring joy to your life for years to come. Sugar Gliders are very loyal, playful and can be taught many tricks and that's what makes them one of the best exotic pets for both singles and families with older kids. Bad news? Well, they can't be house broken so, if you have your mind set on this pet, you will have to learn to tolerate those "little surprises" he'll leave laying around the house. 2. Ferrets
If you don't mind the odor which can get a bit unpleasant and the fact that your pet probably won't live more than 8 years, definitely add ferrets to your list of best exotic pets. This interesting animal will definitely keep you busy as it likes to play, chew things and even steal, plus you'll find it very easy to litter train, just like any other "normal" pet. 3. Bearded Dragons
These odd-looking reptiles are a very popular house pet these days so, if you like reptiles, you'll definitely find this one worth checking out. Bearded dragons are not only famous for their bright colors and poufy beard-like throat but for their playfulness too. Yup, this reptile is actually any very active during the day and will let you touch it too. |
| 7 Cool Ideas for Your Scrapbook … Posted: 20 Apr 2011 10:58 AM PDT I can recall the awe I felt when I first came upon a row of craft items that were specifically designed for scrapbooking. I wasn’t even familiar with the art of making scrapbooks, so I had no idea what all this amazing stuff was even for. I just remember being fascinated by the never ending assortment of stickers, intricately designed papers, and a plethora of gadgets. Whether scrapbooking is completely new to you or if you’ve been creating them for decades already, here are 7 cool ideas for your scrapbook endeavors. 7. Save wrappings from gifts to make a scrapbook devoted to birthdaysOut of all the birthdays I’ve seen in my lifetime, I have yet to have multiple birthdays where the wrapping paper has been exactly the same as a previous year’s. You could use the best looking pieces of wrapping paper as the backdrop on photos of a particular birthday. Another idea would be to cut a square from each piece of paper and paste these together to form a patchwork design on the page. 6. Make your own 3D embellishments with polymer clayI love making beads and 3D shapes out of polymer clay. It’s so simple to use and kids can even help make things from it without being exposed to nasty toxins. Come up with a design, form it out of clay, bake it, and then use it for your scrap book pages. Combining multiple colors of polymer clay enables you to create some truly remarkable patterns. 5. Try using items other than photos to preserve memoriesAdd a lock of hair, a movie ticket stub, a cocktail napkin, etc to a page. Many scrapbooks revolve around an allotment of photographs. Why not mix things up a bit and tie in some mementos that were gathered around the same time certain photos were snapped. You could even make up a scrapbook that doesn’t include any photos at all. |
| Posted: 20 Apr 2011 10:52 AM PDT It's spring, and that means it's time for golf! My clubs have been sitting in storage since October, and it's time to work on my poor pathetic swing. I'm not good at golf, not by any stretch of the imagination, but I love it, and here's why. Here are 7 reasons to play golf, if you haven't before. 1. The exerciseFinally, after years of rampant speculation and little research to back me up, someone's done a study to see exactly how many calories you can burn playing a round of golf. According to a study done in 2008, by Neil Wolkodoff, the director of the Rose Center for Health and Sports Sciences in Denver, playing 9 holes of golf, you will burn about 700 calories. Think about it — you're walking, toting a golf bag, and swinging away. That's exercise, and it's great for your heart and soul! 2. The great outdoors!I loathe exercising indoors, especially when it's nice outside. What better way to spend time in the fresh, sunny air than on a gorgeous green golf course — hopefully NOT in a sand trap! 3. The time with friendsEven if you don't play in a league, chances are you play with at least one other person most of the time, and that's a lot of time to spend with friends! Make it a rule that you won't bring your cell phones, and spend the time between shots chatting and catching up. |
| Posted: 20 Apr 2011 10:45 AM PDT For many of us Easter is a time of cute bunnies and chicks and a ton of chocolate and candy and for others it's a festival of incredibly important religious significance that actually starts 40 days before Good Friday on Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. It's not surprising that many people give up chocolate for Lent knowing they are going to gorge themselves sick over the Easter weekend. Abstinence followed by abundance is a well known secular practice but here are 7 strange Easter traditions from around the world. 1. Thou shalt not knead the doughAs if men needed any more excuses to stay out of the kitchen, in Poland men do not take part in baking the Easter bread because his moustache will turn grey and the dough will fail to rise. 2. Let them eat eggWell, here's one different way of using eggs in a not so very strange Easter tradition. Easter omelettes are a big way of celebrating the occasion right across France but they do it just a bit differently in Haux in the Nantes province. Every Easter Monday the townspeople of take their eggs to a huge pan in the main square and make a huge omelette. More than 4,500 eggs are used to create a dish that feeds 1,000 people. 3. Domestic violence is good for youDo you want to know how to maintain your health and beauty throughout the next year? Well if you live in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and some parts of Hungary it's easy. On Easter Monday you just wait your turn for the men to throw water at you and spank you with a handmade whip of willow decorated with ribbons. "Pomlazka" is also meant to get rid of the ugly and bad things of winter. Many countries with an Orthodox population celebrate this in some form or another but in most cases it is just the water throwing. It is known in variable connotations of Dyngus Day. |
| 7 Musical Instruments That Are Easy To Learn … Posted: 20 Apr 2011 10:05 AM PDT They say that music is food for the soul. There is no doubt that music can touch us in ways that we cannot even imagine. Unfortunately, not all of us have the time to learn complicated instruments. But, here is a list of 7 musical instruments that are easy to learn. 1. Xylophone
The xylophone is a great instrument to learn and certainly one of the easiest. The bars of the xylophone are similar to the piano in their layout and they have to be struck with mallets to produce a note. You may have even seen kids play with plastic xylophones- it is that easy to learn. 2. Autoharp
As long as you have some knowledge about chords or are willing to learn, an autoharp is a very easy instrument to learn. The autoharp ensures that all strings other than those of the chord you are playing are muted, so it is easy to sound good on a autoharp. 3. Comb buzzer
The comb buzzer is not only one of the musical instruments that are easy to learn, you can even make it on your own. All you need is a pocket comb and a tissue paper. Jus place the tissue on the comb and hum through the tissue to produce interesting sounds. |
| 7 Mountain Top Resorts With A Spectacular View … Posted: 20 Apr 2011 09:52 AM PDT Being on top of a mountain is a sensational feeling. The ability to see the kind of view that a mountain top affords is just majestic. It gets even better when you have a resort at the top of a mountain and you can stay and relish the view as much as you want. Here is my list of 7 mountain top resorts with a spectacular view that you simply must visit. 1. Jackson Hole mountain resortLocated in Teton Village in Wyoming, the Jackson Hole Resort, as the name suggests, overlooks the Jackson Hole valley. It is one of the best ski resorts in the area with a spectacular view to boot. The ski area is large, covering two mountains, but is rugged and mostly suited for experts. However, there are also summer activities available when there isn't enough snow for skiing. 2. Candy mountain resortThis is definitely one of the best mountain top resorts with a spectacular view. It is located in the scenic Sevier County near Marysvale, Utah right in the middle of the Paiute ATV trail. It offers white water rafting as the chief activity and has a new bike trail as well. 3. Eagle Height mountain resortAnother one of the best mountain top resorts with a spectacular view, this one is very popular amongst tourists. Its location affords an unbroken view from Moreton Bay in the north to the Tweed Heads in the south. It is nothing short of spectacular. |
| 8 Reasons People Stay Anonymous … Posted: 20 Apr 2011 08:54 AM PDT The internet is a great place. There is a wealth of information at the mere touch of your fingertips – plus, you know, Tumblr and Youtube and Facebook, all of which are highly important. There are also tons of blogs and blog commenters, many of whom choose to mask their identities. On the internet, there are many reasons people stay anonymous, some nice and some not so nice – as you will see. 1. They Are ScaredSome people are scared to say what they think but still want freedom of speech. However, because they don't want to risk offending anyone as themselves, they'll remain anonymous, or even choose a nom de plume. They will create new personas for themselves, and may portray themselves as more outgoing than they are in real life. This is one of the primary reasons people stay anonymous and, in truth, I used to do it myself when I was young! 2. They Are EmbarrassedIn the same vein, some people are simply embarrassed of the things they want to write about and publish on the internet. It may be because they know their opinions aren't popular with their friends, or with the majority of society. They may also be commenting on the blog or social networking site of someone they like, and they aren't yet ready to come forward. 3. The Internet Hate MachineSadly, one of the reasons people stay anonymous is because they want to be mean, but they don't want to hold themselves accountable or face the consequences of their actions. People bully others this way, or express their distaste in vindictive ways to people they don't even know. This is a huge downfall to anonymity, simply because, if you don't like what someone does or says, it's much better to be upfront about it. Be honest rather than hiding and hurting someone else's feelings. |
| Posted: 20 Apr 2011 08:52 AM PDT I get bored pretty easily. I think it's a key fault of mine, and one that's not helped by my (somewhat short-sighted) tendency to wear certain items of clothing to absolute death. I'm sure some of you must be the same: after a while, the thought of putting on that pair of jeans again just becomes unbearable, no matter how fabulous it is or how much you adored it when you bought it. It's not to do with disliking the clothes so much as getting tired of looking a certain way: maybe you're totally over that fifties silhouette but you were so in love with it once you now own about fifty, flared high-waisted skirts and literally can't get out the (pretty, feminine) rut. To help you mix it up and break out of your mould, I've had a little think and put together a list of 8 ways to update your look. 1. Get ExperimentalIt's seems like a fairly obvious statement to make but, in order to change, it's first necessary to try new things. If, for the last three years you've been a skinnies girl, why not give the new wide leg a whirl? Altering a key feature of your look – like the cut of your jeans – will inevitably lead you to find new pieces to complement the change, and in no time at all, you'll be kitted out in a totally fresh style that says 'you' in a unique way that's different from the last one. 2. Have High Lights (or Low Lights)I would say dye your hair so it's totally different, but I think that might be unrealistically extreme. A subtle lightening or darkening of your original colour, however, will give your look a new twist without completely destroying the vibe you've got going on to start with. If you're going into summer, a few shimmery blonde strands will help to get you into sun-goddess mode, and if it's about to be winter where you are, a little lightening might just brighten up the otherwise grey days. |
| Tongue Patch Surgery for Weight Loss? Posted: 20 Apr 2011 06:07 AM PDT Just how far would you be willing to go to lose weight? If you’re one of a few dozen women in Los Angeles, you might consider surgery to apply a patch to your tongue to help you lose weight… but is it a good idea? There is currently one doctor in the U.S. who offers this tongue patch surgery to lose weight, Dr. Chugay, in Los Angeles, California. According to a statement on his website, he was inspired by a similar weight-loss surgery in Mexico. He adapted the surgery and the materials used in the patch for safety, then tested the procedure on 67 patients. All of them, Chugay says, have lost considerable weight, with only one patient experiencing negative side effects from the surgery. Here’s how it works: Dr. Chugay attaches a prolene mesh patch to the patient’s tongue for 30 days. The patch makes eating solid foods painful, so the patient is restricted to a liquid diet for the month, helping them shed unwanted pounds. Typically, a liquid diet will contain fewer than 1,000 calories, half of what a typical adult female ought to consume. This had led critics to complain that the weight loss is unsustainable, but Chugay counters that he also provides diet, fitness, and nutrition counceling to his patients to help them lead healthier lifestyles and maintain their weight loss. He also points out that his “Miracle Patch” is far less expensive and risky than other weight loss surgeries, like gastric bypass or the lap band. I wouldn’t consider a tongue patch to lose weight, but what do you think? Is this a good option for people who have a hard time losing weight on their own, or is it too ridiculous?
