Bartering Art for Health Care

A festival where uninsured artists and musicians exchange work for medical attention is attracting interest from organizers and physicians across the country looking to replicate the model

Inside: This Week in SmallBiz
Back in October, about 40 doctors, dentists, and others donated 232 hours of service, valued at more than $38,000 to some 70 musicians and artists at an event called the O+ Festival in Kingston, N.Y. The grassroots effort was meant to help self-employed artists who struggle to afford treatment when they fall ill. Now, like-minded artists, musicians, and physicians from Philadelphia, Minneapolis, Nashville, Berkeley, and Lowell, Mass., have contacted O+ looking to replicate the model. We take a look.

Also on tap: Hear why the recovery that began in the middle of last year hasn't reached most small businesses yet. Learn about a new fellowship that aims to train more women to become angel investors. Finally, catch a commentary on the promise of overlooked growth businesses in the developing world. Enjoy.
