| 7 Tasty Things to Make with Pumpkin … Posted: 01 Dec 2010 11:00 AM PST Autumn means changing colors, falling leaves, warm sweaters, and lots of left-over Halloween pumpkins. But why throw them away, when there are so many delicious things you can do with them after they've been carved? Here are 8 tasty things to make with pumpkin… 1. Pumpkin Soup
I'm a big fan of the Kate Nash song "Pumpkin Soup," and of the real thing. It's so creamy, rich, and spicy, and it's a great way to use your left-over pumpkin, canned or fresh. Pumpkin soup also freezes beautifully, so you can thaw it all winter long for last-minute dinners in a rush. Add a few roasted pumpkin seeds as a garnish… 2. Pumpkin Muffins
Muffins are a distant cousin to the cupcake, one of my favorite treats, only without all the guilt. Pumpkin muffins in particular are a healthful treat, as long as they're not topped with too much junk, like frosting and the like. 3. Pumpkin Pie
Is there any dessert that says "Thanksgiving" or "fall" better than pumpkin pie? There are so many recipes, with so many delicious variations, there's bound to be one you'll love. My favorite is a standard pie with a generous mound of whipped cream on top. Tasty! PS: follow the photo credit line for a GREAT recipe from Pillsbury… |
| 7 Tricks For Applying Eyeliner … Posted: 01 Dec 2010 10:46 AM PST I decided to write this article because I have a serious love for makeup. I have experimented with every different type of eyeliner on the market and found what works best for me and a lot of different great techniques for applying it. So I will share them with you! 1. Familarize Yourself With Eyeliner Types
There are so many different types of eyeliner available. Kohl, liquid, pencil, crayon, and waterproof are just a few of the top of my head. Learn to recognize each one and figure out what works best for you according to your job, personality type, amount of time to get ready each day and your comfort level. 2. Don't Draw One Continuous Line
Many women make the mistake of drawing one long line around their eyes. Don't do it! Instead, draw short dashes, overlapping each one so that it looks like one long line, only softer and more natural. It creates a lovely effect if you do it this way! 3. Pull Your Skin Taut
When lining the tops of your eyes, use one of your fingers to pull your skin taut. It helps you to draw a straight line and keep it closer to your lash line. That's the key for looking natural, keeping it as close to the lash line as possible. That's what you always want to go for, a natural look! |
| 7 Relationship Questions Answered … Posted: 01 Dec 2010 09:58 AM PST How many times have you entered into a relationship wondering how to handle certain problems or needing to know what the answer is to questions running around your head? Some things may be a given in a relationship. But we still have questions, don’t we? Here are a few questions, witht he answers, you may have been considering for a while. 1. How important is communication in a relationship?
In a word – very. Having open communication with someone with whom you’re planning on spending the rest of your life with is vital to the life of the marriage. A lack of communication over time will create a wall between two people that cannot be broken down, therefore resulting in a deadly separation. 2. Is infidelity forgivable?
Though I have never been in the shoes of one who was cheated on, I do believe that infidelity is forgivable, but I know that it would take a lot of grace to be able to. The act of cheating on a spouse is one of the most detrimental acts a marriage can face. Those that stand through the trial will emerge stronger together, knowing that their love for each other is willing to forgive and look past mistakes. Forgiveness in a relationship is a hard lesson that takes much work to learn. 3. Is it good to know the entire past of your significant other and visa verse?
Though my opinion is worth no more than the pennies in your pocket, I say no, it’s not good to know the entirety of each other’s past. Sure, “big” things like whether or not they were married before, or if they have contracted an STD in their past, things like that need to be discussed. However, the nitty-gritty details, and names of past flames – things like that, are better left unsaid. I know enough that it makes me really dislike some people that I have never even met, and I wish I knew a lot less than I do. The less you know, the better. Just remember, don’t ask and press for details and then get mad when you hear them! :-) |

| Posted: 01 Dec 2010 09:41 AM PST Some rules are made to be broken but, when it comes to beauty and skincare, I'm willing to put the rebellious act aside and do my fair share of obedience. Some beauty rules come and go, some myths get busted only to let the new ones take their place. But there is always a bunch of those proven facts we can't say no to. And these following 9 rules are the ones I consider important: 1. Sunscreen is not only for the summer
If you've ever gotten back from skiing looking tanned, you know what I'm talking about. Although the sun's aging properties are the strongest during summer, winter, autumn or spring are definitely not to be counted off as UV-safe. So, always check the foundation or the cream you are planning to buy and, if it doesn't contain at least SPF 30, cross it from your list and keep looking. 2. Control your sweet tooth
Chocolate may be good for your skin but refusing to control your urge for sweets can lead to much more than just weight problems. Eating too much sugar can cause glycation – a state in which the body doesn't produce enough collagen. And, knowing how important collagen is for elastic, youthful-looking skin, we should all take extra care of the amount of sweets we eat every day. 3. Beauty sleep is a must
Our skin regenerates during the night so the term "beauty sleep" is not something divas have invented to justify their need to stay in bed until lunch time. Busy schedule, losing sleep and taking your work home with you will take its toll on the skin. So sleep, sleep and sleep and you will look younger and minimize your future needs for expensive crèmes and rejuvenating beauty treatments. |
| 9 Things I Love about Dr. Drew … Posted: 01 Dec 2010 09:21 AM PST I love Dr. Drew. He talks out of his butt sometimes, but hey, don't we all? I do it too, I just don't get captured on film and in magazines — thankfully, because I'd probably get sued and/or beaten within an inch or two of my life. I don't love him quite as much as I love Dr. House, but still, I've got some valid reasons! 1. He's a Silver Fox
I still give number one props to Anderson Cooper, but Drew Pinsky is the silver fox of MTV. I don't know what it is about this man, but I think he's sexy. Maybe it's his glasses and the way he only gets beeped out on TV when he's really, really mad. 2. His Attitude
Dr. Drew is so unfailingly patient. I can't even fathom that kind of patience. The stuff he puts up with amazes me. I mean yeah, it's his job, but he deals with so many celebrities who have unwarranted self importance. Who else really wanted to see him beat the crap out of Steven Adler some of the time? 3. His Compassion
Again, it's pretty much in his job description, but I love Dr. Drew's compassion — especially with some of those hard cases. I'm generally scornful of television doctors, but I like the way he handles so many things, I'm inclined to forgive the stigma in this case. |
| 7 Things You May Not Know About Condoms … Posted: 01 Dec 2010 08:57 AM PST Even though condoms have been around for many years, there are still a lot of things that do not know about them. Here are 7 things you may not know about condoms … 7. They should not be flushed down the toilet
After having sex or having finished with a condom, do not try to flush it down the toilet because it will not work. The condom will only get stuck and may even cause you plumbing problems. If you want to dispose of a condom, place it inside some toilet paper and just put it in the bin. 6. Some contain spermicide
You will find that some condoms contain spermicide, this is a chemical that will kill sperm or stop it from working in order to prevent pregnancy. In my opinion there is a good and a bad thing about this, the good is that pregnancy is prevented but the bad is what effect will the chemical have on your body and health. 5. An approved mark on the packet
When purchasing condoms you should check to see whether they are safe to use. In the USA, the condom packet will have an FDA approval somewhere and in Britain there will be a Standard Kite Mark of EEC Standard Mark. In different countries they are often ISO approved and there should be a marking on the packet. However, other countries may use different markings so it may be worthwhile checking out what these are. |
| 7 Ways to Care for Dry Skin in Winter … Posted: 01 Dec 2010 04:41 AM PST My skin gets incredibly dry in winter. I'm talking, my face looks like it has dandruff or something if I don't watch it. It's horrible. This year, I just don't want to deal with it. My makeup always looks horrible, my skin hurts, it's the worst. So I went looking for ways to eliminate the winter skin problem, and here's what I found! 1. Oil Up
There are certain oils that can keep your skin moist and healthy, but you have to be careful. It's easy to make your skin itself look oily if you aren't. Oil of Vitamin E is one of the best bets, but many people are behind almond oil or even olive oil as well. At this point, I'll try anything 2. The Right Lotion
This is harder than it might seem. Finding the right lotion for your skin can be hard. You don't want anything too thin or insubstantial, because it won't provide your skin with the moisture it needs. On the other hand, if your lotion is too thick, it can make your skin look and feel greasy. 3. Butter Up
Specifically, cocoa butter can be extremely helpful. You will also smell delicious. It can be more comprehensive than mere lotion, plus it has a number of other beneficial properties. And really, you will smell delicious. |
| 7 Tips on Photographing Butterflies … Posted: 01 Dec 2010 04:03 AM PST The beauty of butterflies has been displayed on calendars, posters, in ads for various products, and framed to be sold as art. These colorful and delicate little creatures can be found all over the world. It isn't as difficult to get some great pictures of them as it might seem. As long as you have a good camera and follow some of the 7 tips on photographing butterflies that are listed below, you should be able to come out with some excellent photographs. 7. Choose a sunny, windless day for taking photos
Wind takes a toll on butterflies, due to their fragile body structure. Most butterflies take cover on windy days, so getting some pictures of them can be difficult at this time. Sunny days with little to no wind present are best suited for getting some nicely lit shots of butterflies. Taking pictures on sunny days means you won't have to mess with hauling a flash around for your camera, which is always a plus. 6. Position the sunshine behind you
Make sure the butterflies you are photographing are positioned in such a way that the sunlight is able to make every detail show clearly. You need to have the sun coming from over your shoulder, in order to distribute the light evenly across the subject being photographed. If you are facing into the sun while taking a picture, the possibility of the butterfly being lost in the sunlight is great. 5. Watch closely for shadows being cast on your subject
It's easy to focus on the butterfly being photographed and not realize you are casting a shadow over it. I've seem some fantastic photos of butterflies that are ruined by the shadow of a camera or hand being shown in the picture as well. Sure, there are artistic ways to do this, but if you are looking for crisp, clear pictures of butterflies, then beware of the shadows. |

| 8 Laptop Care Tips you Should Follow … Posted: 01 Dec 2010 01:58 AM PST Laptops are miniaturized versions of desktop computers and this is a reason for them to be more sensitive, fragile and ostentatious. They have the advantage of mobility and practical applicability. In order to maintain the good functioning and life their battery the following care tips should be followed… 8. install an antivirus program
A tip that is also for use in desktop workstations is to buy an original antivirus system that keeps the virus database updated daily and no matter what you download from the web, your computer will remain a safe environment for any of your programs. Using free versions is not recommended. 7. Avoid humidity and liquids
This is a factor that is present even in the warm environment because in this case there is humidity in the air and some pieces of the laptop can be damaged without the user even noticing. However this tip also applies to water splashes by accident or eating near the laptop the result is nearly the same. 6. Use a case that suits well to you machine
Ensure you make or obtain a case that fits perfectly with the size of the laptop to prevent dropping it on the ground or scratching and other bad things that could happen unintentionally. Don't look at the price if you are buying one, it's a very important accessory. |
| 10 Celebrities who died too young … Posted: 01 Dec 2010 12:22 AM PST Sadly, not everyone lives out their natural lifespan, and when it happens to celebrities it naturally causes a lot of publicity, even shock. The cause may be accidental or drug-related, but there are many celebrities who died far too young. Here are just some of them. 1. River Phoenix
If you've never seen one of River Phoenix's films, then I urge you to watch 'My Own Private Idaho' or 'Running On Empty'. This talented young actor was just 23 when he died, another life lost to drugs. What a terrible waste. 2. Heath Ledger
Ledger was just 28 when he died from an accidental overdose of prescription medication, leaving a two year old daughter behind. His acclaimed performances in the Dark Knight and other films indicate that his career would likely have gone from strength to strength. 3. Elvis
The funny thing is that when Elvis died, he seemed terribly old to me. Now I've caught up with him, he obviously died far too young. I mean, just 42? I'm 42! |

| 7 Things You Are Doing That Could Get You Fired … Posted: 30 Nov 2010 10:57 PM PST It has been three years since the financial crisis struck the world. That incident brought so many companies to bankruptcy and so many people to unemployment. In the recent years, people are still struggling to find work to support their families. If you are in the ranks of the employed, consider yourself very fortunate. You should take great care to keep or improve your position in the company you work for. Avoid doing these seven things that could cost you your job. 1. Slacking off
You were hired to perform certain duties and tasks for a set amount of money. You are expected to accomplish your work within the given timeframe. You will be deemed unreliable if you slack off and fail to deliver. 2. Exhibiting disagreeable attitude
It is important that you are able to work well with other people in a group or collaborative setting. If you are unwilling to occasionally do more than your share of work, then it could be taken against you. Being uncooperative is a trait that employers do not want their employees to possess. If you like to argue and disagree for the sake of shaking things up, then you should be wary of getting fired. You can get annoying really fast and your officemates will no longer want to work with you. You are of no use to your employer if all you bring is conflict. 3. Personal use of the internet and phone
You are bound to get noticed if you keep making personal calls, updating your Facebook, and chatting with your friends during office hours. Using company resources to do personal things is a guaranteed way to get fired. |
| 7 Pros and Cons of Lord of the Rings Online … Posted: 30 Nov 2010 12:16 PM PST I'm going to make this blog for those that want to know the pros and cons about lord of the rings online. There are a lot of people wondering if they should consider playing this MMOG, because it's now free. I will tell you my 7 Pros and Cons of Lord of the Rings Online… 7. Pro- It's Free
Lord of the rings online went free on September 10th. They have some restrictions, but for a famous story/movie game, you can't go wrong. Now kids from all over can play a very fun game without paying a monthly subscription of 14.99. 6. Con- Is It Free?
When they went free, there was a catch… You now have to become a VIP member to get certain things. However, you can purchase or earn turbine points to unlock certain things in the game. That means more character slots, inventory bags, unlock certain quest, and more. So is it really free? 5. Pro- Trait and Deed System Is unlike Other MMOG's
The Trait and Deed system is what makes this game different from all MMOG. The trait system is broken down into 4 different traits. The virtue trait, race traits, class traits and legendary traits can be used for your character. The Deed system also makes the game fun to play. Each deed has its own specific needs like a quest. The goblin deed is earned from slaying a certain amount of goblins. Once you made the amount killed, you unlock the next deed and get turbine points. |
