| 7 Things To Never Buy At A Yardsale … Posted: 04 Dec 2010 11:57 AM PST Do you enjoy yardsaling? I know I sure do! It's true that one man's junk is another man's treasure! I have found some great bargains at garage sales and yardsales. But there are a few things that you SHOULDN'T buy at yardsales- no matter what kind of deal you're getting! Here are 7 things to never buy at a yardsale. 1. Underclothes
Eeewww! This is the number one thing to NEVER buy at a garage sale! Unless it's brand new with the tag still attached, don't ever buy any sort of underclothing used. It's unsanitary and disgusting. Besides, even if you do wash it with bleach you can never get stains out. This is one item you want to buy brand new! 2. Makeup
Once again, unless it's brand new and sealed or still in the package, don't buy it! Even if the person tells you they never used it or only used it once, you could run the risk of getting an infection or a virus by using makeup from someone else. And if the seal is torn off or the packaging is gone, you won't know the expiration date of the product. Be safe and buy your makeup new! 3. Personal Hygiene Products
Don't buy things like toothpaste, soap, deodorant or tampons at a yardsale. If they are brand new and in the box and you can see they haven't been used, it's fine, but don't take a person's word for it. You never know who to trust these days! And it's better to be safe than sorry. You don't know whose used it or how long it's been sitting under someone's bathroom sink! |

| 8 Ways to Ask a Girl to Homecoming … Posted: 04 Dec 2010 11:08 AM PST Asking a girl to go to homecoming can be really difficult because it takes a lot of courage and you have to really put yourself out there. Here are 8 ways to ask a girl to homecoming. 8. Make sure that you time when you are going to ask her correctly
Females of all ages like to think about there date well in advance. It is really important that you do not decide to leave it until the last possible minute and then ask her to homecoming; the chances are that she already has a date. 7. Try to be original
Some girls are likely to be asked out by a lot of guys to homecoming therefore try to be original when you ask her. This is especially important if she has become accustomed to guys asking her out in the same way, this will help you to stand out from the crowd and is particularly useful when you have never spoken to her before. 6. Seek the father's permission
Now this is a very old fashioned method of asking a girl out to a dance but it can still be used to charm and impress the old man. This is easier if you know the father already because it may be difficult to meet him otherwise. Asking the father first will show the girl that you are serious about going to homecoming with her. |
| 7 Reasons I Love College as an Adult … Posted: 04 Dec 2010 10:45 AM PST I started my college career rather late in life, and to be honest, I'm still going, even now, and I don't imagine I'll ever stop taking classes, even after I earn m degree. What makes me long for higher learning? Here are 7 reasons I love college as an adult… 1. I get to learn something new
Studies have shown that adults who continue to learn new things as they grow older tend to stay sharp, and that's enough incentive for me to keep on learning! And it doesn't even have to be something you learn in a college classroom — there are so many venues to new learning, like community centers, continuing education groups, and of course, friends! 2. I get to see how much I already know
I thought when I started college, I'd be behind… I mean, I hadn't been in a classroom for 20 years, so I thought I'd be at the bottom of the pile compared to the younger students. But in my first class, I learned that I already knew so much! I even remembered a lot of my sophomore-year French… and I'm not even going to tell you how long ago that was! 3. I get to meet new people
I've met so many marvelous people in my college classes, from the teachers (many of whom are my age) to the students (who are a mix of my age and younger). I've even met workout buddies in my phys ed classes! I now consider a lot of them to be genuine friends (not just Facebook friends), and I'd never have met them if I hadn't taken those classes. |
| 7 Tips to Kick the Sugar Habit … Posted: 04 Dec 2010 09:58 AM PST Some people argue that sugar is more addictive than alcohol and nicotine, the main reason being that sugary goods, such as chocolate and cakes, taste so good. So here are 7 tips to kick the sugar habit. 7. Try to stay away from artificial sweeteners
Often people use artificial sweeteners because they believe them to be better than sugar. In many cases this is not these case and they hold lots of sugar and other ingredients in them that are not good for your body. Try to refrain from using these sweeteners. 6. Remove sugar items from your home
Often I find that if I have chocolate bars or cakes in my house then I will eat them but if they are not there then I do not crave for them. So why not try removing all of these types of items from your home and this should help stop your craving them. 5. Use honey in your cooking or eat it by itself
Honey is very similar to fruit, mention in tip number three, and is very good for you. It contains natural sugars that your body does not need to work at breaking down. You can use it in your cup of tea as a substitute for sugar or in many of your cooking recipes. |
| Posted: 04 Dec 2010 09:25 AM PST Of course girls have secrets. Some of us (ahem) aren't exactly good at keeping secrets, but every girl has at least one all the same. Universally, girls share many of the same secrets. After doing some research on the subject, I decided to ask the girls I know to see if their answers matched up with what I found on the internet. Here are ten of the secrets I discovered, some of them expected and some of them quite surprising! 1. Commitaphobe
The universal stereotype is that men are afraid of commitment. Many of them are, but the counter-assumption is that women are never afraid of commitment, are always ready for it, and that simply isn't true. Girls just tend to keep it a secret — and to deal with it, by expressing it, discussing it, and coming to understand it. 2. Weighty Issues
Most women I know, myself include, keep their weight a secret, even from their spouses. Doctors know, and that's about it. No matter what your weight or your body type, it can just be exceedingly difficult to make that revelation to anyone, even the people you love the most. There's an insecurity there, a fear of judgment or recrimination. Simply put, it can be frigging awful. 3. Long, Beautiful Hair
With the exception of a few escaped childhood pictures, guys may never know what their girlfriends and wives look like with their natural hair color. If your girlfriend colors her hair, you'll just have to use your imagination. I'm guilty of this. I hide under hats when my roots start to show. It's not so much that I'm ashamed of my natural color, I just couldn't wait for the color to completely fade. |
| 7 Things to Put on Your Checklist Before Moving … Posted: 04 Dec 2010 08:53 AM PST Having recently relocated to a new city, I thought I would share with you some tips from my experience. But oh, how I wish you could take away the stress that seemingly surrounded me for nearly eight weeks! 1. Movers
Decide if you want or need a moving company. And RESEARCH the heck out of 'em. I have read so many horror stories. And if you stick around the Internet long enough, you will encounter the "movers held my truck hostage for more money" stories and then some. Get your costs in writing, preferably with an in-home review with a sales person, and work with a reputable company who provides a "will not exceed" estimate. And always, always check with Better Business Bureau. 2. Boxes
I learned that movers prefer uniformly sized boxes: small, medium, large and wardrobe (and sometimes, dish). Purchase from a home improvement store (like Home Depot) or check the FREE section of Craigslist for supplies, but do not rely on flimsy banker's boxes (they totally fall apart). For the small investment, you are making the moving process seamless, as with various sized boxes, you're only wasting your own money on the time used moving the stuff. 3. Pack Early and Pack WellPhoto Credit: Stéfan Start packing storage, garages, extra closets and off-season belonging as soon as possible. You'll be living amongst boxes for several weeks, but it's not likely stuff you will need. Take advantage of old newspaper, weekly circulars, bubble wrap rolls and paper stuffing and pack your boxes well – especially if you're moving long distances. If you have any items of sentimental value, place aside and move in your car, if possible. Also, packing tape is your friend. Use generously. |
| 8 Tips for Staying Younger Longer … Posted: 04 Dec 2010 05:40 AM PST When it comes to attitudes towards aging, things have changed in a generation. Forty was once considered middle-aged, and sixty was old. Now, 60-somethings are enjoying life, still working or with an active retirement. Well, you don't have to be rich or a celebrity to stay looking and feeling youthful. It's best to start early, so here are my tips for staying younger longer. 1. Attitude
I genuinely believe that attitude is one of the most important factors in staying young. No, we can't fight off the signs of aging forever, but we can let them know they're not welcome! People who think they are old will be old, whereas those who keep a young outlook are more youthful. 2. Protection
I've probably made this point many times before, but it's one that cannot be under-emphasised. Stay out of the sun! Although we do need a limited exposure to make Vitamin D, it's very important to avoid direct sunlight as much as possible. Much of what people consider natural aging is actually sun damage. In my view, it is not worth premature aging (or the health risks) to get a tan. 3. Younger Company
Who says you have to stick to friends of your own age? I get on with anyone, regardless of their age. Hanging around with young people doesn't mean that you are a sad person trying to regain their youth, it means that you don't judge. Children are especially good company for showing you how to retain that young attitude. |
| 7 Ways To Cut School Expenses … Posted: 04 Dec 2010 05:35 AM PST Though important, school can be entirely too expensive! School books alone cost a fortune! So how does one cut down on the amount of money we spend on school? Here are 7 ways you can cut school expenses. 1. Buy Used Books Rather Than New Ones
Whether new or used, books are books. But the price of used books is a huge amount less than that of brand new ones. Another idea if you can’t find used ones is to buy new ones and sell them again at the end of the year and make some of the money back. 2. Buy Supplies On Sale
Many times, right after school starts, there is a big sale on all school supplies. Stock up then on supplies for the coming months of school and the beginning of the following school year. To spend a little money now is to save more money in the future. 3. Watch What You Eat
To choose the old-fashioned sandwich, chips, fruit or veggie bites and drink over overpriced Lunchables and other popular lunch foods is a wise choice for parents buying food for school kid’s lunch. On the same wise, college students should consider buying healthy meals to cook at home rather than eating out all week. |
| 8 Ways SNL Has Gone Downhill … Posted: 04 Dec 2010 04:56 AM PST There was a time when I was a huge Saturday Night Live fan. I was a supporter, even. I still remember the first episode I saw, back in the early 1990s: I only watched because New Kids on the Block were the musical guests. I’d never watched the show before, didn’t know what it was, but I promptly fell in love – and I stuck with it, even through the Chris Elliot years. But now, I just … I can’t keep my silence anymore. SNL, this is my Angry Face, and it’s aimed at you. Grrr. 1. Too Formulaic
Everyone knows what’s going to happen now. There’s going to be some presidential jokes. Whatever up and coming, Hollywood bound cast member happens to be hot that week is going to be featured in almost every sketch. New cast members will try to evoke past cast members, especially if they were more popular. Like how Jimmy Fallon fought so hard to be the new Adam Sandler. It all tastes like beans. 2. Lacking Controversy
It used to be that if I missed an episode, I heard about it by Monday. Someone was always doing or saying something verboten on the show, whether it was a cast member gone too far in their mimicry or some untalented little hack getting caught lip-synching (cough, Ashlee Simpson, cough). Now it’s like the writers are choosing to err on the side of caution just a little too often. If I’m not mistaken, didn’t this start happening around the "tragic" Janet Jackson/Super Bowl wardrobe malfunction? 3. Keenan Thompson
I’m sorry. But if you starred on Nickelodeon, you’re probably not as funny as you think you are. And I’m sorry, but if you ever starred in Good Burger, you don’t need to be on SNL. I get that All That was SNL-lite, SNL for kids, but I mean. Really? |
| Posted: 04 Dec 2010 02:41 AM PST I'm not a very superstitious person but I can honestly say that I've never passed a single exam in that dreadful classroom marked with the number 13. Now, you can say it's just a coincidence and that I was supposed to study more or find a very logical explanation no science will ever consider valid – number 13 and all the bad luck associated with it. Scientifically validated or not, this number plays a big role in some people's lives. So big that even hotel owners, hospitals and governments choose to skip it! So let me tell you a few interesting things about this number: 1. Most hotels avoid number 13
Some hotel guests are just too superstitious to sleep in a room numbered 13 and some have even reported bizarre accidents and supernatural phenomenon in the rooms with this number. Rational or not, the fear of this number is so great that some hotels even decided to get rid of it by labeling the rooms 12a and 12b. 2. 13 dinner plates are bad luck…
Better leave somebody out or call a fourteenth guest because a dinner for 13 is said to be fatal for the one that leaves the table first. People who believe in this claim that whoever stands up first will die within a year and, if you don't believe it, just look at how Jesus Christ's last supper ended. The French have gone so far that they even have professional agencies that will send you the jinx-breaking 14th guest in case you don't have one! 3. No 13th street
Here's one interesting fact you can research and verify without the fear of dying – Some cities don't have a street or an avenue numbered 13! I don't know about the house number though because I've lived in a house numbered 13 for many years and nothing very bad or strange ever happened. I did have a black cat back then so maybe these two bad luck charms kind of neutralized each other? |
| Posted: 04 Dec 2010 02:22 AM PST Addictions can be very powerful and in some cases can completely take over your life, with the possibility of losing everything including your family and friends. Here are 7 strangest addictions. 7. Funerals
An extremely rare addiction is one to funerals; a name has not even been coined for this yet and is normally just simply referred to as funeral addiction. This name is fairly self explanatory, this is where you constantly have to keep going to funerals on a regular basis and in some cases this is several times a day. In my opinion this is quite a sweet addiction as you are paying your respects to those that have lost but unfortunately it can still ruin your life. 6. Heavy Metal
Apparently this is an extremely rare addiction that has only just recently been recognised by psychologists. Due to this addiction a man was unable to leave his home or to be away from heavy metal music and is actually receiving disability allowances to help him out financially. 5. Cosmetic Surgery
There are so many cases where people, including celebrities, can not stop having cosmetic surgery. They constantly have larger breasts implanted or facial work done, so much so that the person becomes completely unrecognisable. In some cases the cosmetic surgery can make the person look hideous and yet they carry on with more. |
| Posted: 04 Dec 2010 02:06 AM PST It is cold, humid, unpleasant, in winter everybody spends more time inside their houses. But going through the different temperatures weakens our immune system. Then there is only one solution, fight the disease with a good program… 8. Strengthening the body
Good sauna practice makes our cells get used to temperature changes .For example people from Finland never get a flu because, since their childhood they are taught to make alternating cold and hot baths. Making sauna once a week at maximum eighty degrees Celsius trains blood vessels to face the high thermal changes. People with heart problems have to ask the medic's opinion before. As a different option: Scottish showers hot and cold made daily. 7. Sleeping Sufficient
In winter our bodies need more energy than usual, for this we have to rest enough. Seven-eight hours sleep is good and maybe a nap in the afternoon. Our immune system is fighting double than normal in the cold season and it needs more time for recovery. 6. Eating Well
A good food supply rich in vitamins is the best guard against cold. Don't miss apples and oranges also fresh vegetables is a must and don't forget about minerals. |
| 8 Types of People You Should Avoid … Posted: 03 Dec 2010 11:04 PM PST From our childhood, we are taught to see the best in other people. However, there are some who insist on showing their negative (or annoying) side. If you continue to keep them in your life, these people will do you more harm than good. These people, consciously or unconsciously, will make your life miserable with their attitudes and habits. However, you have a choice: you can stay or walk away. Try to see if you know these eight types of people you should avoid. 1. The Hulks
These people have so much hate and anger in their souls. The worst thing is, they feel like they need to take it out on other people. The slightest provocation makes them physically and verbally abusive and violent. 2. The Peter Pans
Have you come across people who act young, wild, and free? These people have no desire to grow up and become mature individuals. They avoid responsibilities whenever possible. They just want to have fun and not think about their future. 3. The Narcissists
The Narcissists are those who love themselves a little bit too much. They think they are the best thing in the world. They feel like everything revolves around them. They seem to think that everyone is interested in their lives. |
