| 9 Reasons Girls Can be Judgmental … Posted: 08 Dec 2010 11:48 AM PST First of all, I have to thank several of the ladies who commented for inspiring this post – thank you! Women have a reputation for being judgmental toward one another. Female cattiness is becoming a stereotype. I personally blame Mean Girls (not really – well, not entirely). I’m even guilty of it myself, which led me to check out some of the main reasons why women judge each other. 1. InsecurityPhoto credit: k-ko Sometimes, when you are insecure with some aspect of yourself, it can make you feel insecure around women you think have it all. This happens to me all the time. You don’t really mean to judge, but sometimes you can’t help comparing yourself. She may have what you consider a dream job, fabulous clothes, beautiful teeth, fabulous hair – something that makes you aware of what you perceive as your own flaws. 2. Lack of Self EsteemSometimes a lack of self esteem makes you consider something you think is lacking in others, as a means to build yourself up. It’s typically not a consciously mean or malicious act or thought. Think of the Mean Girls, though – even as a fictional clique, they embodied a lot of the issues that can make girls act catty. 3. Learned BehaviorThis tends to get better as you get always, but not always. Let’s go back to grade school: even then there was a popular clique of girls. Sometimes there was one or two of them who would, back in those innocent days, spend the night with you or go somewhere with your family, and the two of you were just like friends – until you got back to school. Because the girl then felt like she had to adapt the behavior of her friends again, to hang onto that fluid, ever changing popularity. |

But in some ways I think TV shows are more enjoyable, because it's like a never-ending movie with a billion sequels! You get to know the characters and you become interested in their lives. Here are 7 of my favorite shows and what I love about them! 1. Friends
 2. CSI

| Posted: 08 Dec 2010 10:27 AM PST My favorite time of the year is winter. I love sweaters and it is so hard for me to choose a favorite although I am sure I have favorites I wear more than others in my closet. This year, I've already chosen what I cannot wait to wear out in the snow, and here are my favorite ideas for you to look at! 1. Red Sweater
Here is the perfect lazy day comfy shirt. Match it with your faithful pair of jeans and you are good to go! The bright bold color of red is an instant trend setter this season, so flaunt the red color and enjoy this comfy sweater for the rest of the snow season knowing you will stand out against the backdrop of winter wonderland snow white! 2. Winter White
Celine keeps soft winter white a top favorite this season and it reminds me of snow, fun, and snowmen all wrapped up in warmth. Yes, they say no white clothing after Labor Day, but this is winter white we are talking about in a soft, white. Fun! 3. Cable Knit Gray
Gray works as a nice, neutral color and the red cap really pops against the gray. Cable knit really never goes out of style and the button up sweater makes for a warm choice when you will be inside. Simply unbutton, or shed the heat when grandma insists it is to cold and cranks the thermostat up! |
| 8 Tips on Moving in Together … Posted: 08 Dec 2010 10:10 AM PST When my husband moved in with me after we got married, there were no problems at all. When I first asked him if he wanted to play video games with me, it was almost as if I saw stars above his head. Before he moved in with me, he didn't tell me he liked video games that much. He thought all girls hated them, so he thought that once he was married, he would never play them again. Shame on you girls who are like that. Right now, I am going to give you 8 tips on moving in together … 8. Don't Toss Your Hobby Out
You should never toss your hobbies out. Unless, of course, you are one hundred percent sure that your hobby is going to get in your way of the marriage, for example: porn. Then again, your hobbies should not involve porn in the first place. If your hobby involves gaming, football, gardening or anything else, continue doing it, except make sure there is some time for the both of you in there and don't be so obsessive about it. 7. Establish the Ground Rules
This is the time where you will need to establish the ground rules. Whether they are "put the toilet seat down" or "no stuffed animals in bed," you will need to establish them. This way, you will keep that romantic spark between the two of you. 6. Redecorate Together
He probably does not want to sleep on pink satin sheets or live in a room full of pink fluffy things. She probably does not want to sleep on sheets made by your favorite football team or live in a room that does not have a girly touch to it. Therefore, the two of you should decorate together and agree on the colors, bedding and other such details. |

| 7 Cosmetic Procedures I’d Love to Have … Posted: 08 Dec 2010 08:18 AM PST For most of my life, I wasn't a big fan of cosmetic surgery. I thought it was for shallow stripper, ostentatiously wealthy women and for has-been celebrities. But as I've aged, I can see the appeal, and there are a few procedures I'm starting to covet. I'm not a stripper, or a socialite, and I'm certainly not a celeb, but I have to admit there are a few cosmetic surgeries I'd love to have… 1. Facial skin resurfacing
I have great-looking skin… for a lady my age. But I could certainly do with a quick laser microdermabrasion just to even a few things out, and to give my skin a little boost. It's not expensive, and can even be done by most dermatologists, so there's no need to search for a cosmetic surgeon. Hmm… 2. Laser tattoo removalActually, I'm already having laser tattoo removal done, but I wish the process was a little faster! I've had three treatments, and the fading is significant, but it's already been almost 6 months, with at least another 2 treatments to go! I suppose that's what I get for rushing into a tattoo in the first place… 3. Thigh and butt tighteningNo matter how many lunges or squats I do, no matter how much weight I lose, gravity has taken its toll over the years, and my butt and thighs will never be as tight as they once were. A seaweed wrap or cosmetic "tightening" is the solution! I want to have this done… |
| Posted: 08 Dec 2010 05:45 AM PST It's a funny thing, rain – too much of it in some places, and not enough in others. What a pity it's not evenly distributed! Often, though, we complain about rain – we'll get wet on our way to work, the kids are stuck indoors, the garden needs some attention, it's too wet for that planned outing, the barbecue will have to be cancelled. But remember some of the many reasons why we need rain … 1. Drinking Water
If we didn't have rain, where would the water that we drink come from? Sometimes, like how city children don't know that milk comes from cows, we forget that rain is crucial for providing us with water for drinking. So rain may be an inconvenience, but it's absolutely essential. 2. Animals
Have you ever seen your dog or cat drink from a muddy puddle and wondered why they do it, when you provide them with perfectly clean water? I observed this to a friend once, and she pointed out that they are probably 'programmed' to drink water when they find it, as a wild animal wouldn't be able to rely on a helpful human to fill a water bowl. So rain provides drinking water for animals in the wild. 3. Ecosystem
Where would nature be without rivers and lakes? These are an essential part of our ecosystem, providing drinking water and habitat for many species. Yet without rain, there would be no rivers – and no life on earth. |
| Posted: 08 Dec 2010 04:30 AM PST Thanks to some great discussions, I'm feeling very girl-power recently. Feeling this way got me to thinking about the women I love and admire. I found the list really interesting, because the women of honor are so indicative of who I am and what I love. Pretty cool, right? 1. My Mom
This is number one all the way, and it always will be. My mom is my very best friend – along with my dad, actually. My mom and I have always been incredibly close, and it gets better as I get older. She's everything I want to be in terms of grace and strength, beauty and love, kindness and determination. She's always there and always open, and I love her for that. 2. Peanut
Begging pardon, that's my affectionate name for the BH and BFF. When you can really get someone who understands you but loves you even when they can't, you're golden. Furthermore, female friendship is incredibly fulfilling and much needed. 3. Alice Walker
Alice Walker's writing touches me profoundly as a woman. There are so many universal truths in her stories, and they cross all boundaries. The Color Purple, The Temple of My Familiar, Possessing the Secret of Joy, these all might as well contain mirrors, and I love that there is a woman out there who can speak to so many others. |
| 7+ Tips on How to Get Your Ex Back from the Pros … Posted: 08 Dec 2010 04:00 AM PST Is there a real way to get your ex back? While most times, it’s better to leave the past in the past, don’t you sometimes wish there was a way of undoing some mistakes? Like letting go of the love of your life? Afterall, they do say that you don’t know what you’ve got until you lose it. So, when you do realize that you’ve made a mistake, how do you get your lost love back? Let Michael Griswold, founder of Reunitedrelationships.com and a true expert on the matter, give you some tips on how exactly you can get your ex back! 1. Understanding what went wrongThe first step to fixing something that is broken, is to figure out what went wrong in the first place. So sit down and really think about it. Analyze the relationship and try and figure out when and why the downfall began. Then ask yourself, if you are willing to do what it will take to fix it.Remember, that you will both have to make compromises and changes if it’s going to work this time. 2. No pressureNow that you’ve decided that you want your ex back, how do you actually go about it? Here’s what you should NOT do! Call him a thousand times, send him messages, stalk him on Facebook or real life…you get the picture. Doing this wil only make you seem needy as Micheal says and push him farther away. No one wants to be with a desperate soul, especially not your recent ex. 3. Take time to healThis is the most crucial step for any breakup. Take a break! Do not call him. Do not text him.Do not meet him no matter how badly you want to. The fact of the matter is if you haven’t healed from the breakup, you aren’t going to able to make it work this time. Also, taking time off will help you realize if you really want him back or if you’re just too used to him to not have him around. Michael advises to take out your calendar and mark a date three weeks from now. This will be C-Day or Communication day. Until then, lay off! Immerse yourself in hobbies and things you’ve always wanted to do but couldn’t. If your ex tries to contact you, be civil but keep it short. Tell them you really have to go right now and that you’ll get back to him when you can. 4. After three weeksMichael says it’s always better to re-initiate contact by calling your ex since sms-es can be impersonal and also make it hard to judge a person’s tone. Also, preferably call them at a time when you think they won’t answer (you heard me right). Leave a short nonchalant voicemail, something to the effect of “I just noticed that your favorite store has a sale and thought I’d tell you about it!”. What you are essentially doing is letting him know that you’re thinking of him without actually saying so. When he does call you back, remember to sound positive, upbeat and genuine! Keep it short and end it with a “I’ve got to run, but do you want to catch up for coffee later this week?”. 5. If he agreesGive yourself a pat on the back because it means that he is still interested in you. Remember to keep the positive attitude you had on the phone and have a good story or two to share. This is not the time to discuss your past and other dreary aspects of the breakup. If things start to get uncomfortable or weird, Michael says make an excuse and leave immediately. The longer you stay, the more damage will be done. If on the other hand, it is going well, let them be the one to ask to see to you again. Now it looks like you have a great chance of getting your ex back, but there’s still more ahead. 6. Ex-SexOnce the two of you have met a couple of times, the physical attraction is going to creep its way back. It’s probably been a while for the both of you and you’re longing for his famiiar touch, but Michael says do NOT have sex with him straight away. Here’s why: Men like the chase. The more you make him wait, the more he’ll want you. At the same time, do not use sex to get him back. There is a fine line between persuasion and manipulation and the latter is not going to give you what you want in the long run. Wait till the two of you have established that this is not going to be just sex, that the two of you are genuinely going to try and work things out and then give him the best sex of his life! 7. If none of these workWe all learn from experience that nothing in life is a guarantee. All we can do is try and if it doesn’t work, keep your chin up and move on. Remember, if it’s meant to be, it will! All you need to do is be smart about the situation, take in all the tips you can and give it your very best try. And those, dear ladies, are some great words of wisdom from the pro, Michael Griswold himself. Of course there is much, much more to it, than what I just described above, so if you really, really need to get your ex back, I highly recommend you read Michael’s e-book which will give you the best detailed advice and make it so much easier for you to work out a perfect plan of getting your own ex back. Also, watch our pro’s Youtube video to know more! And don’t forget to share your own tips and experiences with winning your ex back below! You know how much we love hearing from you! |

| 7 Ways to Save Money on your Phone Bill … Posted: 08 Dec 2010 02:40 AM PST There are so many of us out there that are guilty of racking up a large cell or home phone bill, we get so carried away sometimes during our conversations that we forget it is actually costing us money. Here are 7 ways to save money on your phone bill. 7. Try not to make information phone calls
We are all guilty of phoning information at some point and asking for a phone number for somewhere or train times, and there is nothing wrong with this just as long as you are not doing it on a regular basis. Try to plan out what information you need in advance and use the internet or another cheaper method to search for it. 6. Make people aware when you are going on holiday
When you go abroad and take your mobile phone with you, if anyone texts or phones you this also charges you as well. You should make sure that you let everyone know that you are going away on holiday and ask them not to contact you. If someone does phone you, only answer it if it is urgent. 5. Do not phone your voicemail unless absolutely necessary
Often people overlook the fact that to phone your voicemail, on most networks, can cost quite a bit of money. In my opinion only phone your voicemail if absolutely necessary, and by this I mean if you know that you have a message left for you. Make sure that you are prepared to jot down the number straight away so that you do not have to phone voicemail again. |
| 7 Methods to Make Your Home Safer … Posted: 08 Dec 2010 12:59 AM PST I'm always worrying about my family's safety, so I try to make our home as secure as possible. There are many different ways to do this. Here are 7 methods to make your home safer that I have come up with. Take a look at them and see what you think. You might have some additional ones that you'd like to supply in the comment section. Most of these have to do with safety from intruders, but a couple of them refer to safety from dangers inside the house as well. 7. Hang fire extinguishers around the house
Fire can quickly create an environment that is unsafe for humans and animals. Placing fire extinguishers all over the house is one way to reduce the chance of fire spreading throughout your home. It's also a good idea to brief all family members on how to use this safety equipment properly. There are also certain types of extinguishers available for different types of fires. For instance, there are different ones for chemical fires and oil fires. 6. Purchase a fire ladder
Many people worry about an emergency ladder being permanently attached to the outside of their home. Fire ladders are usually made of a material that is able to be easily stored in a closet or some other enclosed space. These are often hung over the window sill and draped down the side of the house only when they are to be used. I would definitely have one of these if I lived in a home with more than one level. 5. Use an alert system in the driveway
These systems will alert home owners when someone walks or drives past it. Most people position them at the end of their driveway and an alarm will sound inside the home. I think these are most helpful when the driveway is long and winding or when multiple drives exist. Some of the higher-priced driveway alert systems are equipped with cameras. Having a camera attached would definitely make this system a lot more effective when identifying intruders and friends. |
| 8 Tips for Those Living in the Snow … Posted: 08 Dec 2010 12:57 AM PST I went to college and then continued to live in an area where snow constantly covered the ground from at least Thanksgiving until Mother's Day. Sometimes there would be snow on Halloween and occasionally in June too. These 8 tips for those living in the snow come from my years of dealing with this fluffy white stuff. Being unprepared for snowy weather can be very unpleasant. The 8 tips below might make it more enjoyable for you. 8. Have a shovel handy
Be sure to check your snow shovel status well before winter arrives. Not only did I have one in the garage, but also in the house and a collapsible one in the car. You never know when you'll need it. There were times when I had to shovel my way out of the house to get to the car. I also had moments that required me getting out of the car to shovel a path into the driveway, since the snowplow had so kindly blocked my drive with a thick hill of ice, snow, and salt. 7. Make sure your long underwear is adequate
Taking outdoor camping courses in college taught me how to dress properly for the cold weather. Living in a harsh winter environment is different than dealing with the occasional snow storm I saw as a child. The common phrase I recall my backpacking instructor uttering was, "Cotton kills". This meant that it was better to wear clothing made from synthetic materials, instead of the cotton waffle-weave of my youth. 6. Invest in wool sweaters
The amazing thing about wool is that it is still warm even when it is soaking wet. The lanolin in wool is what makes it water resistant. The hardest part to remember is to wash wool on cold and don't toss it in the dryer. It took me a few times to learn this one. I had some amazing sweaters quickly reduced from a size that would fit me to one that my Malamute could wear. |
| 8 Self-Defense Tips Every Woman Should Know … Posted: 08 Dec 2010 12:06 AM PST I'm sure that you are well aware of the dreadful and violent acts committed against women all over the world. I don't need to give you statistics; you see it on the news, read it in the papers and on the internet, and you may even know women who have been physically attacked or abused. But just because it happened to them doesn't mean that it should happen to you. There are practical ways with which you can defend yourself against people who want to harm you. 1. Be alert and confident
 2. Let them know you are aware of their presence
Potential attackers are discouraged when you act confident. If you sense someone is following you, turn around and look the person in the eye. They will most likely back off if they know you've had a clear picture of their face. You can also let them know verbally by saying something like "I know you're following me. I don't want any trouble. Go away right now." 3. To resist or give in?
If an attacker demands for your purse or wallet, then you have to make a decision whether to fight back or give in to the demand. If you are in a crowded street and the person doesn't have a weapon, then ask for help from the people around you. An attacker doesn't want attention for fear of getting caught. If the attacker has a weapon, then it would be best if you just give them what they want. If this scenario happens while you are in a secluded or quiet place, then it would be best to throw your purse or wallet in the opposite direction and run in the other. This will create some distance between you and the attacker. If you do choose or have to fight back, make sure that you are capable of doing so. |
