| 7 Makeup Must-Haves for Teen Girls … Posted: 20 Dec 2010 11:51 AM PST Wearing makeup is one of the many things we girls look forward to getting to wear since the days when we were in diapers! There is something about it that is like a magnet, drawing us to the glitz and glam! But now that we’re teens and into makeup, what do we get? What do we need? What color? What brand? How much? Oh, so many questions! Here are the top seven things you must get for your makeup supply! 1. MoisturizerI know, technically, it isn’t makeup. And yet, it is a necessity when it comes to wearing makeup. Without proper moisture, it is impossible to get your makeup to look natural and smooth. So, choose the moisturizer that works good for your face, and soften up. Use sparingly, however, to prevent too much oil on your face. You don’t want to look all greasy! 2. Translucent PowderForget the foundation, and heavy colored powders. Mom says to take advantage of this youthful skin while I’ve got it. Show it off, don’t mask it under heavy foundations. A translucent powder will create the perfect canvas to show off your true beauty with your makeup. 3. Eye ShadowFor us girls, it’s all about they eyes and lips. So play up those beautiful eyes with the perfect eye shadow. You can get those really neat shadow sets that set off your eye color, or just go glam and pop with some bright, sparkly colors. Just remember, you want to be viewed as the beautiful girl that you are, and not some circus clown, so go sparingly on the bright colors! |
| 10 Sublime Stocking Stuffers … Posted: 20 Dec 2010 11:48 AM PST In my house, stockings are a tradition. Since I was a little girl, the first thing I do on Christmas morning is pour out my stocking and open up those gifts first. At the same time, I love stuffing little surprises into the stockings of my loved ones. You can fit so many special little things in there! Here is a list of 10 sublime stocking stuffers that can please your loved ones, but won’t cost a lot of money. 1. ChocolateAn oldie but a goody, chocolate in a stocking is always welcome – unless the recipient doesn’t like it, of course. Otherwise, go all out, whether it’s a small Whitman’s Sampler or their favorite candy bar. Go gourmet or make candy yourself to hide in their stockings. Godiva is always a good choice, but then again, so are those delectable Doves. 2. Hair AccessoriesFor little girls, teens, and women, hair accessories make great stocking stuffers. You don’t really want to stick them under the tree, but they fit perfectly in a stocking, and they are always one of my favorite things. Fancy barrettes, bejeweled bobby pins, or simple scrunchies, they are one of those little gifts that always come in handy. 3. BatteriesThis one is just mean. My parents always did this to me, and the Better Half is kept up the tradition. If your kids and/or loved ones always open their stockings first, they’re apt to look at you like, "Oh really? Batteries? You know these are worse than clothes, right?" However, what’s cool is when they open the present that needs the batteries, and then their eyes light up with glee. Or maybe that’s just me. |
| 7 Things Your Dog Would Say if He/She Could Talk … Posted: 20 Dec 2010 10:44 AM PST I've always wondered what my dog would say if she could express herself in words. Sometimes I can imagine what she's trying to say, especially when she's being expressive with her paws and head nods as well. Here are 7 things your dog would say if he/she could talk and I'm sure you've already come up with a few of your own. I hope you enjoy these. I had fun thinking of them! 7. Where ya goin'?
My dog jumps up from her napping area on the front porch whenever I walk out the front door. I'm sure this would be the first sentence out of her mouth each time. She always has that look. You know the one. It's sort of a quizzical look with ears up and tail wagging, like she's waiting for her cue. If I go for a walk down the drive way, there she is. As I take the trash outside, there she is. It's almost as if she's expecting me to take her on some amazing adventure. Oh, don't forget the tongue hanging out of the side of the mouth. It's so hard to tell her 'no'. 6. Look! I'm cuter than that cat!
Annika, my dog, has decided that she can imitate whatever the cats do when they get treats. The cats can all stand on their haunches and catch chunks of cheese or whatever treat is coming their way. I've noticed that Annika will also hold this position and look expectantly for a treat. I'm fairly certain she'd utter these words in a heart beat, especially if she didn't get a treat first. 5. Sorry about your shoes…again
I can always see the look of remorse on Annika's face when I get close to the location where one of my shoes has met its demise. The ears go down, head sags, and her tail droops as far down as possible. I think she just gets so caught up in the moment that she forgets what she's doing. Thankfully she's only maimed two pairs of shoes in her two years of life. The other few were just tortured a bit, but mostly with incessant licking. |
| 8 Reasons People Self-Injure … Posted: 20 Dec 2010 10:04 AM PST People have different ways of coping with strong feelings and emotional pain. Some use diversion tactics, relaxation techniques, medications, drugs, alcohol, or physical activity. Other people deal with emotional pain by inflicting harm and pain on themselves. The act of harming one's own body is called self-injury. The reasons for self-injury are varied. I have listed eight common reasons that lead people to resort to self-injurious practices. 1. Feel something
People injure themselves to escape from feelings of numbness. They want to feel something, anything, so they inflict physical pain on themselves. The pain reminds them that they are still alive despite the absence of emotion and any sort of sensation. 2. Ease tension
Some people ease their tension and stress through exercise, food, or sleep. But some people choose to injure themselves to ease the tension, anxiety and stress that they feel inside. The feeling of physical pain and sometimes the sight of blood can be cathartic to these people. 3. Relieve anger
Instead of taking out their anger on other people, people who self-injure turn their anger on themselves. Self-injury becomes a way of venting anger, self-loathing, and even guilt. The negative emotions that make their hearts and souls weary are released with the infliction of pain. |
| Posted: 20 Dec 2010 09:37 AM PST If you’re like me, you lead a busy life full of kids, work, housecleaning, along with all the extra things we tend to run into. Rather than always turning to microwave meals, what we busy moms really need is time-savers for the kitchen. Help is here with these 8 time-savers for cooking! 1. Plan a menuPlan your meals one week in advance so that you can make use of the leftovers. For instance, have baked chicken, mashed potatoes, and gravy for dinner one night, and use the leftover gravy as the base of beef stroganoff the next night. 2. Cook For Two NightsIf you’re not going to have much time to cook on one specific day, try making two meals the night before and just heat up things for the next days meal. You don’t have to do the same thing for both meals, either. Just keep basic ingredients the same. Like, make potato soup for one night and a cheesy potato and ham casserole for the other. 3. Buy Extra & FreezeGet extra bell peppers, and dice up the extra, bag it and freeze it for a later meal. Do the same with zucchini, squash, potatoes, carrots, and other fresh veggies. |
| 7 Makeup Tips For Your Wedding Day … Posted: 20 Dec 2010 09:07 AM PST The day I marry the man of my dreams will be the most important and special day of my life! I would imagine that any young bride feels this way. I certainly don’t want to spend all day worrying about whether my makeup is running or flaking, and so I did some research. I found some great tips and tricks of the trade! I would love to share them with you, so here are 7 makeup tips for your wedding day. 1. Waterproof It!
Your wedding day will most likely be emotional for you. With all the drama and excitement, you may feel overwhelmed at times and shed a tear. Make sure your mascara doesn’t run when you do! Even if you’re not the crying type, other factors to take into consideration is the humidity level, people hugging or kissing your cheeks, rain or mist if you are outdoors for any period of time and just wearability in general. Waterproof makeup tends to last through all of these factors. I would recommend waterproof foundation, mascara, and eyeliner. 2. No SPF
The only time i would EVER recommend skipping your SPF is on your wedding day! Foundations with SPF tend to look bland in flash photography. You certainly want to look nice in your pictures, so be sure and buy a foundation without SPF! 3. Wear Lip-stain
I think it’s best to skip wearing any type of lipstick or lipgloss on your wedding day. Lipstick usually wears off by the end of the day, or halfway through it. With all the kissing and eating I don’t wonder why! Lip-stains are the best route to go. They provide color and moisture but don’t do a disappearing act halfway through the night. If you MUST wear lipstick, apply 2-3 coats and blot in between each one so that it lasts longer. |
| 7 Seasonal Jobs for Extra Holiday Money … Posted: 20 Dec 2010 08:59 AM PST During the holidays, money becomes even more important. I love spoiling the people who mean the most to me; I want to give them things I know will make them happy, and I am huge fan of giving more than one gift. When you need extra money, it can be hard to figure out how to get it – so here are 7 seasonal jobs for extra holiday money that might come in handy this year or next! 1. RetailNow, this can make you a lot of money but might be your last choice because working retail is bad enough during calmer seasons. Still, a part time, seasonal job at the stores where people tend to shop the most for presents is always an option. The stores are always eager for help, and although it’s bound to be crazy, at least you know you won’t have to do it forever. 2. Santa/Santa’s HelperThis one could be lots of fun! Even women can play Santa – Roseanne did it one year on her show, and she was awesome! Failing that, you can always play one of Santa’s helpers as well. Elves can be any gender, you know, and you will not have to risk making kids cry quite as much as the big guy. 3. Child-CareHere, there are several options. Being a babysitter is one, of course, but there’s also the option of working in a daycare or child-care facility, such as the ones some malls have, so parents can shop and their children are well taken care of while they do it. Parents are looking to make extra money as well, and even though their kids are off for the holidays, they still have to work. |
| Posted: 20 Dec 2010 08:47 AM PST In the cold, dark days of winter, it's all too easy to forget about beauty routines. After all, we're pretty much covered up from head to toe! Add to that a touch of winter blues, and we often don't feel inclined to pay any attention to our appearance. So I've come up with some tips to boost our beauty. 1. Moisturise!
A dry, red face isn't exactly appealing, so don't forget to moisturise regularly. Do you really need a heavier cream in winter? I'd say let your skin be the judge of that. Also, don't forget your hands – they too can suffer from the cold. 2. Colour
Colour isn't just for the summer months – bring some brightness into the winter gloom with a lovely eyeshadow or strong lipstick. The same goes for clothes. Try some bright tights, a colourful sweater, or eye-catching scarf. And don't just go for black or brown boots – try a bold alternative like purple or red. 3. ExperimentPhoto Credit: Anna Gay Time to try something new! Treat yourself to some new makeup in colours you've never tried before. Add bold accessories to your outfit. Instead of wearing black, try to find some new colour combinations in your wardrobe. |

| Posted: 20 Dec 2010 08:38 AM PST The majority of us all want to save money in some way, whether we put aside a set amount into a bank account or just want to cut down on the amount that goes out each month. Here are 7 tips on saving money. 7. You do not need to keep up with the Joneses
It may never have crossed your mind but maybe the so called Joneses are living the way they are trying to keep up with you, when all you are doing is trying to keep up with them. In my opinion it is always important to live within your own means because you could end up getting into serious debt. 6. Walk or cycle more
Instead of spending lots of money on petrol and car maintenance why not walk, cycle or catch some form of public transport. This keeps more money in your pockets and helps the environment by reducing the amount of fumes released into it. 5. Take more time to look for cheaper insurances
There are so many different insurance policies that we have to take out, such as car insurance, home insurance, contents insurance and so on, that it can be so easy to waste money. If you take a bit longer to search for cheaper insurance policies then this can help you to save money. |

| 7 Different Uses for Olive Oil … Posted: 20 Dec 2010 05:36 AM PST Olive oil makes for a delicious addition to many recipes. It is used everywhere in cooking, from making salad dressing to bruschetta and beyond. However, it is a versatile item and, surprisingly, can be used in all kinds of everyday things, from beauty treatments to cleaning! Check out these 7 different uses for olive oil. 1. Shaving
I had no idea about this, but evidently you can use olive oil in place of shaving cream, lotion, or soap – whatever you use to shave now. It will also keep your skin soft and supple, so you can add some drops to your bath water as well. Actually, olive oil has a lot of natural beauty properties, as you will see. 2. Shining Silverware
If your silverware is made of stainless steel, or you have stainless steel appliances, you can use olive oil to shine them. It makes a great alternative to other cleaning products and will not cause corrosion. And it's certainly safe, since it's a natural product. 3. Pet Care
Olive oil can be helpful to your pets in several ways. By adding it to a cat's food – preferably wet, even if it's a special treat – it will help to prevent your cat from getting hair balls. Dogs with dry skin can benefit from it as well. Our dachshund and my mom's little Pomeranian/Papillion prince-mutt get really dry skin in the summer and the winter. Adding olive oil to a dish of wet food for them help keeps their skin moisturized, and rubbing the olive oil right into the worst spots keeps them soft and hydrated. |

| 8 Things That May be on Your Guys Wish List … Posted: 20 Dec 2010 04:54 AM PST I know that guys can be hard to buy for, but when it comes to my guy, I am lucky. He's big on technology and games, so picking something out for him can be simple. Before you pick something out for your guy, it is important to know him and know what he likes. I do not know your guy personally, but I am going to give you some recommendations of what many guys are wanting. Below, I am going to give you 8 things that may be on your guys wish list … 8. An Xbox 360 Elite
Believe it or not, the Xbox 360 Elite is a pretty big thing … in the guy world. Many guys who play video games have added the Elite on the list. Just look at it, read the specs and tell me it's not something your gamer guy will love! If your guy already has an Elite or isn't into games, then continue to the next gifts he may like. 7. A New Computer
Last year, I got my husband a new computer. Wait, it couldn't be just any computer – it had to be one that played all the latest video games. It had to have the best video card, processor and a big hard drive. So, we decided to custom build it. A new computer might just be on your guys list. 6. Cologne
Oh yes, every now and then, a guy loves to smell good. You know, because it attracts you to him even more. So, on his list, he might be asking for some more cologne. |
| Posted: 20 Dec 2010 02:56 AM PST I'm always up for a good laugh and spotting humor on the back of vehicles is a great way to pass the time while stuck in traffic. I like passing things on that make me laugh, so here are 8 funny bumper stickers for you to enjoy as well. You've possibly seen some of these on the back of cars as well. Feel free to pass on the laughter! 8. I Had a Life But My Job Ate It
I can think of a few people who would go for this bumper sticker. The picture I saw of this bumper sticker had it placed above the gas tank on the car and there was another decal on the cover to the gas tank that looked like money being sucked into the tank. I think this bumper sticker and decal combo works well. I'm sure many people feel this way; they work to put gas in the car so they can make it to work the next day. It seems like a vicious circle to me! 7. Even Though This Is A Stupid Sticker You're Squinting To Read It
How many times have you been at a stop light and pulled just a bit closer to the car in front of you so you could read the bumper sticker? I've done this many times. I've even backed up a bit to catch a glimpse of a potentially funny sticker on the car next to me. I thought the wording on this one was quite clever. I'd love to see the face of the person reading it when the end last part of the sentence was finally reached. Classic! 6. I Brake For No Apparent Reason
I've seen a few drivers who should have this sticker placed on their bumper. I was driving cross country once and got behind a guy who must have been driving with one foot on the gas and the other on the brake because his brake lights were on as he was going up the hill in front of me. I can usually tell when someone is a tourist in our area and not used to the winding roads. They brake at the oddest times and for no apparent reason. |

| 7 Disadvantages of Living in a Foreign Country … Posted: 20 Dec 2010 01:19 AM PST Deciding to relocate and build a new life from scratch is one of the most difficult decisions a person can make because it means leaving your friends, the place you know like the palm of your hand, sometimes even your family and stepping into a relatively or completely unknown territory. It's kind of scary and interesting in the same time and, yes, there is a lot of adapting, learning and socializing you'll need to do in order to feel at home. Here's a few things that might seem hard to overcome or cope with: 1. Language barrier
You can spend a year or more learning the language spoken in the country of your future residence only to realize that, once you finally get there, everything people say still remains "all Greek" to you. You will have to update your vocabulary, practice your pronunciation and learn slang and non-scholar terms. Some people have the ability to adapt and soak in new things very quickly, almost like a super sponge and some never fully adapt. Some say it has to do with age and that young people learn new languages faster but I honestly think it has more to do with the desire to learn. 2. You will always be a foreigner
Now, let me be clear on this one – there is a difference between being a stranger and being a foreigner. You'll stop being a stranger eventually but you will always be a foreigner. This doesn't mean people will not love you or look at you strange, that just means you will practically have two homes. Some people chose to look at this as a limiting factor, a sign that you will never fit in completely, but I see this as the chance to have more holidays, learn to cook different traditional meals and speak at least two languages perfectly. So what if I'm not born there? We can't all be born in the same place. What would happen if I had been born in a train or a plane for example? Would that mean I don't belong anywhere? Of course not! Home is where you decide to make it. |
