| 15 Tips to Stop Overspending … Posted: 05 Jan 2011 11:02 AM PST Not to sound materialistic, but money is probably the most important resource in our society. It gives you the power to be independent, allowing you to buy your needs and most of your wants. Money, however, is not easy to come by. We need to be careful with how we use it. The biggest mistake that people make when it comes to finances is overspending. As a result, their lives become a mess of debt and bills. If you are one of these people who have spent over their means, then here are some tips to help you tackle your overspending problem. 1. Admit you have a problemOverspending is like an addiction. You begin to solve it when you admit that there is something wrong. Remember that the problem won't go away if you keep denying its existence. It will only get bigger and worse and that doesn't bode well for you. 2. Keep track of spendingFirst of all, you should know how much money you have to spend. Then try to keep track of how you spend your money. If you know where your money goes, then you will know what causes your overspending. 3. Make a budget and stick to itA great way to curb your overspending is by planning your purchases or making a budget. Take note of regular bills and payments you need to make. You should also plan out even small, daily or weekly purchases. If you can't identify the exact amount, then you can make reasonable overestimations. Remember to stick to your budget. |
| Posted: 05 Jan 2011 10:58 AM PST At a time when our finances are increasingly stretched, what with bills going up and pay rises a thing of the past, something has to be cut down. That is generally our social life and other non-essentials. However, that doesn't mean an end to cultural activities and getting out of the house. Here are some suggestions for free activities to enjoy. 1. TalksMany museums, galleries and universities offer talks open to the public, often related to current exhibitions. Take a look at their programme, and go along – you may discover a new interest. Sometimes there are also free films and DVD screenings. 2. WalksMost guided walks are not free, but there are some that don't charge, so look around and see what you can find. Alternatively, check out the free leaflets offered by tourist offices and local councils, which details routes of historical interest. 3. WorkshopsHave a look at your local community centre and see if they're offering any free workshops – there may be taster sessions so that you can try out a class before committing yourself. Museums may also do workshops, especially for families. |
| 7 Reasons Chocolate is Good For You … Posted: 05 Jan 2011 10:42 AM PST For centuries, we've enjoyed chocolate for its aphrodisiac and plain delicious qualities, but recently, scientists have discovered it's actually more than just a tasty treat — it can be good for us, too. Aside from merely making us forget our every-day troubles, what else can dark chocolate, rich in a phytochemical called flavonoids, cure? Here are 7 reasons chocolate is good for you. 1. It can improve your moodWe women didn't need a study to tell us this. We've known for generations that chocolate can make us feel better, mentally. Dark chocolate is loaded with mood-boosting phenylethylamine and serotonin, and the flavor and sensation of chocolate melting in your mouth can enhance your mood on their own, too. 2. It can reduce stressAs well as serving as a pick-me-up, chocolate can also help you handle stress. Scientists have shown that eating a small amount of dark chocolate over just two weeks can reduce a person's cortisol and catecholamine hormones, which increase feelings of stress. Research aside, I know this for a fact: there's no weird boss, loud client, or traffic jam that can't be made more manageable by indulging in a tiny piece of rich dark chocolate. 3. It's good for your heartA 2008 Italian and a 2007 Japanese study have both demonstrated that eating a small amount of dark chocolate daily can help reduce the inflammation that often leads to heart disease. And how much exactly is a "small amount"? Researchers say that to get the cardiac benefits, a person needs to eat only 7 grams of dark chocolate. That's the equivalent of just a couple of small bites from a bar of dark chocolate. |
| 8 Ways to get Rid of a Headache … Posted: 05 Jan 2011 10:40 AM PST No one enjoys having a headache or even the thought of getting one. I know it is something I not only dread, but try to avoid as much as possible. When I feel a headache starting up, I use one of the 8 ways to get rid of a headache that I've listed below. If you already have heard of each of these, then feel free to pass them on to someone else who might benefit from them. Some of these are common sense and you probably do without even thinking about it. 8. Drink some waterHeadaches are often caused by dehydration. They occur because the body is lacking something. Your body doesn’t tend to lack ibuprofen or aspirin. More than likely the cells within your body need more water to move toxins out of the body. A build up of toxins will cause you to feel sluggish and not quite up to par. Drinking a couple of glasses of water won’t instantly make your headache go away, but it can be a great start to getting closer to easing the pain. 7. Stretch upper shoulder and neck musclesSome headaches are caused by tension. The neck and shoulder muscles are the ones that tense up during stressful situations. These muscles usually cause mild headaches, but they have been known to cause some intense headaches as well. As an exercise, try pulling your shoulder down as you tilt your head away from this same shoulder. You should feel the muscles at the base of your neck stretch a bit. Do this on both sides and make sure to stretch slowly to avoid injuring yourself. 6. Practice relaxingDeep breathing exercises can release a lot of tension in the body. Close your eyes and breathe deeply a few times. Be sure to inhale and exhale very slowly. Meditation works well for some people. This might be difficult if you are easily distracted by things going on around you. I find closing my eyes and breathing deep is much easier to concentrate on then to try and meditate. |

| 7 Mistakes Couples Sometimes Make … Posted: 05 Jan 2011 10:17 AM PST Couples make mistakes from time to time – we're only human, so this is expected. Not one of us in this world has not made a mistake or two. I am going to give you 7 mistakes couples sometimes make … 7. Planning the Wedding and Not the MarriageCouples tend to make the mistake of planning their wedding and putting too much focus on their wedding. They don't put much focus on the actual marriage. If you are planning a wedding, be sure to look past that wedding day and into your marriage. 6. Withholding InformationSure, I believe in having privacy, but withholding information is no good. This is one of the common mistakes that couples make. 5. Letting Yourself GoI know, you are married now. You have found the love of your life, but this is not a reason to let yourself go! I know, you do not have anyone to look good for and your partner should love you for who you are. This is a common mistake that couples make. |
| 10 Books to Read on Cold Winter Days … Posted: 05 Jan 2011 10:15 AM PST One of my favorite things to do when the weather is cold, the sky is grey, and it pays to stay inside rather than brave the freezing temperatures, is curl up on the couch with a warm blanket, some hot tea, and a great book. I chose these 10 books to read on cold winter days because they are the ones I can read over and over, plus they really pull you in deep and the characters are three-dimensional – so I hope you like them too! 1. Postmortem by Patricia Cornwell
 2. Bookends by Jane Green
 3. Bag of Bones by Stephen King

| 7 Spiritual Tenets Of Happiness … Posted: 05 Jan 2011 09:48 AM PST Are you finding it a little more difficult this year to get into the holiday spirit than in years past? It happens to all of us every now and then- it’s called the blues! Stress and anxiety can overwhelm us during the holidays. With all the new years parties, greeting cards, advertisements, commercials and movies showing perfect friendships and families, even those of us who are general content in life start questioning the quality of our own relationships. But instead of embracing your inner scrooge, add these simple steps to your daily routine and you’ll feel more happier and content not only during this holiday season but all year long! 1. Step Back And See The Big PictureBeing more spiritual is about letting go of control and taking things in stride as they come your way. Go with the flow! When something goes wrong, try to find the positive things in the situation and dwell on those. Relax and keep things in perspective! You may not control what happens, but you can control how you re-act. Having this mindset and attitude help you to avoid the “poor me” and “life is so unfair” types of syndrome. Make a pact with yourself to agree to just let whatever happens, happen. You will be more happy when you’re in a relaxed, carefree mindset! 2. Mind And MeditationEver wish you could just take 10 minutes to lay on a beach with the sun on your face, the sound of the gentle waves lapping on the shore, and the smell of coconuts in the air? The good news is-you can! You may not be there physically, but you can be there in your mind. Find a moment or two each day to simply close your eyes and get away from everything. Don’t focus on anything, just clear your mind and listen to the sound of your own breathing. Doing this helps you develop mindfulness. And cultivating this quality helps you become more flexible when dealing with tough situations. This simple daily practice will help you cope with anxiety much better, so it’s worth a shot, wouldn’t you agree? |
| 10 Celebrities that Are Not Afraid of their Curves … Posted: 05 Jan 2011 09:39 AM PST I can see the comments now – "you're telling women that it is okay to be overweight." I am certainly no doing that. However, by showing them 10 celebrities that are not afraid of their curves, I am hoping to get a message across. No matter who you are, no matter what size you are and no matter what you look like, you need to love yourself. Pretty does not always equal being a size zero. You can be a size 25 plus and still be pretty in people's eyes – let me give you some celebrities that I look up to … 10. Crystal Renn
Photo Credit: metrolic.com This is a 24 year old beauty. She was pretty upset after a recent photo shoot where she realized her photograph was herself. She could barely even recognize herself in the photo. She was worried about girls who saw the picture and would think that thin was better. 9. America Ferrera
Photo Credit: connect.in.com We know her from Ugly better. In reality, she certainly is not Ugly better. What I like about her is the confidence she shows with her weight. In 2008, I quote "We’re not all a size 2 and we’re not all a size 0, and you know what? That’s okay because some of us like to eat." Yes, that is definitely a celebrity that is not afraid of her curves and I look up to her for this. 8. Mo’Nique
Photo Credit: allstarpics.net Mo'Nique is certainly the type of girl that is not afraid of her curves. She has always claimed that she is fat and fabulous and that is exactly what she is. She told Jet magazine "Let's be healthy big people." She has claimed that she shed forty pounds the natural way. |
| 8 Ways to Get your Family on the Fitness Wagon … Posted: 05 Jan 2011 09:23 AM PST Obesity, diabetes, and heart problems are becoming more and more common, and the victims of these health problems are becoming younger and younger. It is more important than ever to make sure your whole family understands the importance of exercising, eating right, and staying fit – and you can help them understand by taking a look at these 8 ways to get your family on the fitness wagon. 1. Cheer each other onWith kids especially, you need to keep this endeavor fun. You also have to make sure every member of your family knows that you are all in this together. One way to do that is by creating a family cheer. You can cheer each other on when you’re exercising. Making it exciting is a great way to make it last. 2. Keep it light and sillyThis one is important with younger children. If you can use props and things like that, or wear outlandish costumes while, say, you’re using the Wii fit together or something like that, it will seem like a game. If it seems fun, your family will be more inclined to have fun; if they’re having fun, it will be easier to keep them active! 3. Try something newIt is always important to try new things, especially when you are trying to get and stay fit. You might try a new activity, like playing kickball together, or you might try a new healthy food. You might even make this a routine (see more in a minute), where you try something new every week, or even every month. |
| 7 Usual and Unusual Ways to Bejewel Yourself … Posted: 05 Jan 2011 09:09 AM PST Shiny, shiny, shiny! I have to say that people are going crazy about the sparkle and that's not just a new trend but something that's been going on for quite some time. But, why people bejewel themselves in the first place? Well, it can help one stand out or speak a lot about one's bank account. Showing up totally bejeweled is a guarantee you'll make a shocking first impression – good or bad, that depends on the one that rocks the bling and the way he/she does it. But let's see some of the most popular bejeweling techniques. You never know, some of them might even come handy one of these days. So, here they are: 1. Dazzling makeup
Photo Credit:  Art Fountain I've always liked the idea of sparkly eyes and, thanks to the cosmetic companies, we now have the opportunity to bejewel our eyelashes, eyelids or the area around the eyebrows without the help of a professional makeup artist. You can buy a set of Art Deco blinged out fake eyelashes, glue the crystals yourself or get Revlon's special mascara-like product that, once it's dry, forms gorgeous, sparkly drops on the tip of the eyelash. 2. Vajazzling
Photo Credit: fashion-victims.org Try to say this fast a couple of times, it's not a tongue-twister but it sure is fun. It sounds kind of funky… Vajaaaazzling! So, let's say you want to surprise your partner by doing something unusual. If Brazilian is not how you usually style your vajayjay, you'd probably decide to give it a shot. Right? But what if you've have already discovered the wonders of the Brazilian waxing and it became a normal procedure? Well, you can bedazzle your vajayjay or vajazzle it, in short! This procedure involves applying crystals on your "lower region" and is not only fun but painless and temporary too. Jennifer Love Hewitt admitted her "lil' jenny" looks like a disco ball but I personally wouldn't go that far (or so low, for that matter). I would, however, get one of those DIY vajazzling kits and make a little heart. |
| Posted: 05 Jan 2011 03:16 AM PST Who says you have to use a tea bag once and then toss it in the trash? I've used mine for numerous things and have seen some pretty strange things done with them as well. Here is my list of 7 uses for used tea bags. Maybe you'll find them helpful the next time you make a cup of hot tea and are wondering what to do with your tea bag, besides throw it away. 7. They are a great anti-aging remedyTea has tons of antioxidants that help fight free radicals. These antioxidants can be transferred from the tea to skin by placing a used tea bag on skin around the eyes, mouth, or other areas of the face that are showing signs of premature aging. It's much more comfortable to relax with wet tea bags on your face if they are still a bit warm. Just make sure they aren't doused in scorching water fresh from the kettle! 6. Nourish the rose bushesI've always poured coffee grounds and placed banana peels and egg shells on the ground around my garden plants, but the tea from used tea bags can also be used in a similar fashion. Rose bushes benefit from a combination of tea leaves and ground up banana peels. You can empty some old tea bags into a pitcher, grind up some banana peels, and then add a bit of water to the mix. Pour this concoction onto the soil around your rose bushes and see how well they like it. 5. Refresh sleepy eyesPeople are always using cucumbers to reduce puffiness around the eyes. A lukewarm tea bag will do the same thing, as well as lessen the appearance of dark circles around the eyes. I find it much easier to have a set of used tea bags on hand than I do cucumber slices. My family isn't big on veggies, so I rarely have fresh vegetables in the fridge to eat, let alone to place on my face. |
| 7 of My Favorite Funny Youtube Videos … Posted: 05 Jan 2011 01:08 AM PST I'm always up for a good laugh and I find that animals are often the best source of entertainment. Here are 7 of my favorite funny YouTube videos that I wanted to share. Some of these are always bookmarked on my computer, just in case I need a little pick-me-up during the day. Others have been sent to me by friends and I simply kept them in mind. I hope you enjoy these and share them with others! 7. Cat vs Printer – The TranslationThis reminded me of moments that I've spent fighting with the printer. You know there's paper in there, but the computer isn't printing. Or the connection between the printer and the computer isn't quite right and you can hear that sound that the computer makes when a device is connected and disconnected, over and over again. I thought it was hilarious to see a cat having the same issue. 6. Probably the Funniest Cat Video You’ll Ever SeeI like montages, especially when there are cats involved. This video starts off very slow and the music is rather relaxed, then everything goes haywire. The first time I watched it I had tears streaming down my face. There are a couple of moments where you might cringe when watching it, but I think you'll enjoy it for the most part. It is definitely worth sharing with others. I have it at the top of my list of bookmarked videos. |
| 8 Popular Diets – Which ones work? … Posted: 05 Jan 2011 12:46 AM PST Many diets offer promises of weight loss in eight weeks, or “lost 10 inches in 3 weeks!” However, few of them are diets that actually work in the long-term aspect. Sure, you may drop 20 pounds super fast, but because of the way it was lost, you gain it back in a matter of weeks. I have researched and found 8 diets that are popular, and why they are good – or not so good. Have a look! 1. The Sonoma DietFrom the reviews I read on this diet, it appears to be a good diet choice – for someone who loves to cook. The Sonoma diet centers around Mediterranean eating, and is based on the love of good foods. Unlike other diets, there is no counting points or carbs. Serving size is based on plate size instead. It even allows you to have a glass of wine after the first 10 days of dieting. It teaches you to eat slowly and savor your food, which will make you feel fuller quicker. Overall, this appears to be a great diet! 2. Macrobiotic DietThe Macrobiotic diet dates back to 1920′s from Japan. It promotes healthy, organic eating, with large portions of fresh veggies. While it is a good diet that does work, it can be too restrictive for most Americans who have enjoyed many traditional eating choices. The Macrobiotic diet only allows you to eat fish and seafood. You need serious dedication and lots of money to afford all the organic foods. But if you’re up for the challenge, go for it! 3. Jenny CraigJenny has her commercials all over television with promises of great weight loss and wonderful food. So is this true? Or just a sales gimmick? Let’s find out! I found a whole entire site full of reviews from people that have tried Jenny Craig. Some said that they had done the diet 15 and 20 years ago, and it had worked, and the counselors were a great help. But they recently rejoined, and it’s totally different now, in a bad way. Almost all the reviewers gave negative feedback, that Jenny Craig is all about the money, that the food is far too expensive, and if you try to use the Jenny Craig recipes, but shop at your local grocery store rather than buy from her, you’ll get the boot and loose your membership at your own cost. Over all, I would recommend you stay away from this diet. |
| Posted: 05 Jan 2011 12:34 AM PST People do weird stuff and that is a fact. They are the ones that add some laughter into our morning paper/news. While some of the crimes they commit are funny, some of them just make us sit there and shake out head, because they are so unbelievable. Are people really this dumb? Are they dumb enough to claim their son is in a hot air balloon in the sky, when they know he is really at their home? Wait, that HAS happened, so my question has been answered. You came here for 7 strangest crimes of 2010 and that is what you are going to get … 7. Animal LoversI have heard of animal lovers trying to snatch someone's dog or cat because they were so gosh darn adorable, but some people really take this serious. Some teens in Kansas, Jacob Bradley (hey, that's my maiden name, but we're not related!) and Justin Santhuff were two that took this seriously. They ran off with a meerkat from their local zoo. How did they do this? They snuck him out in a baby stroller. The workers thought a predator took off with the animal as it was in an open-air exhibit. However, they put two and two together when the animal was found at a local Petco in an empty glass aquarium. I guess the meercat wasn't good enough for them? 6. Stealing Candy from a BabyWow, I have heard of stealing candy from a baby, but I have never heard of dressing up as one and trying to take candy! On Halloween of 2010, a man dressed up as a baby and tried taking candy from children who were trick-or-treating. 5. Internal DrugsA woman in Florida (hey, I live in Florida!) witnessed a bag of drugs falling from Elizabeth Progris's legs after she showed in their county jail. This is a 22 year old that is a dancer/housewife. She was drying off when a deputy saw a clear dog drop from her genital area. The bag contained Xanax. |
| 5 Things to Add to your To-Do List … Posted: 04 Jan 2011 11:46 PM PST 1. For Movie Night
How about some zombie movies? We know that Halloween has come and gone but the cold weather is a great reason to cuddle up with your guy in front of a fun movie. Make that a zombie movie for extra cuddling time. 2. For Your HealthYep, working out should be added to your to-do list if the holi-daze made you extra lazy. Perhaps new workout gear can help motivate you? 3. For Your WalletHow much did you spend for gifts during the holidays? Are you in control of your finances as of today? That’s is one thing that you need to do ASAP. 4. For Your GardenIt’s cold/snowing out. Your garden is suffering, too. Here are great tips for caring for your garden during this unforgiving season. 5. For Your SkinIf staying radiant all through 2011 and the years to come is one of your big plans, knowing what ingredients can cause skin allergies is important. | 7 Items to Buy after Christmas … Posted: 04 Jan 2011 11:22 PM PST If you've never experienced holiday shopping the day after Christmas, you're really missing out! It's a lot of fun (almost as much fun as the day after Thanksgiving) and there are some really great deals to be had! It may sound a little crazy, but it's true: it's better sometimes to buy holiday things AFTER the holiday! Here are 7 items to buy after Christmas. 1. Wrapping PaperWhy is wrapping paper so expensive? It's paper. We're going to end up throwing it away after our friends and family tear it apart to get to the gift we've wrapped it in, right? So why is it so pricey? To avoid paying high prices for something so silly, you have two choices: opt to give gifts wrapped in old newspaper, or buy your gift wrap half-price once the holiday is over. 2. OrnamentsI love Hallmark Keepsake ornaments, and I give my daughters several of them each Christmas, but they're pricey, too. That's why I buy them at 40% off after Christmas. I can buy 10 for the price of 6, which means each of my girls get 5 ornaments, instead of just 3. I feel like I'm getting such a deal! 3. DishesI love using special serving platters and other dishes during the holidays, but often times it's too expensive to buy an entire set before the holiday. Unless the dishes are dated (most are not), why not spend a lot less (sometimes up to 80% less) by purchasing them after the holiday? They may be harder to find, but it's well worth the search. This doesn't just apply to Christmas-themed dishes, either — I've found great bargains on Easter, Halloween, and Thanksgiving platters after those holidays, too! |
