Don’t toss the Christmas cards! There are so many uses for them even after the holidays! Read on to find out more! 1. Use a Die Cutting Machine
If you have one, or are planning to get one, Christmas cards make for great paper supplies for super cute crafts using the die cutting machine. Pictured is little, cute boxes made with a die cutting machine and old Christmas cards. You can use them to make a garland to decorate next Christmas, or make these boxes slightly bigger for small gift boxes! 2. Christmas Card Ornaments

8 Fashion and Style Tips on Wearing Boots … Posted: 31 Jan 2011 10:42 AM PST Boots, boots and more boots! They certainly give me one good reason to love winter! But, let's not get overexcited as we might forget a very important thing – similar to shoes, purses and clothes, boots can make or break your entire visual presentation. So, without further ado, I'm presenting you with a few of my tips on how to make your outfit, boots and body shape work together as one! 1. Boots are not appropriate for black tie eventsShocking but true. Not many people obeys this rule nowadays but it's good to know. Right? If you're going to be attending a very important black tie event where everything has to be "by the book", you might want to opt for a pair of court shoes. They don't call them "court" shoes for nothing. 2. Pick your dress length carefullyNow, I understand that the first tip may not be of much use unless the meeting with the president or her Majesty, the Queen is the reason for which you're getting all dressed up. So, let's just stick to some more useful things. Okay? So, if you want to wear your favorite pair of boots with a dress, make sure you balance the lengths properly and wear tall boots with a short dress and vice versa. You don't want to look like a superhero, right? You'll need to show at least a couple of inches of your legs in order to visually separate the body from the legs. If you fail to do this, your body will appear like it's melting slowly and you'll have that reversed triangle shape we like to see on… well, MEN! 3. Boots, short pants and printsWhoa, this is a very dangerous combination so be extremely careful on how you combine boots, printed pantyhose and shorts or ¾ leg pants. Do this only if you have long, flawless legs because you'll have three different materials and three vertical lines, and we all know how vertical lines affect the body. I would, personally, stay away from the outfit combinations that involve boots that end right below the knee, short pants right above the knee and a print on the knees. I've seen girls wearing this and, honestly, it never turned out very good.

5 Fool Proof Ways to SAVE BIG on textbooks … Posted: 31 Jan 2011 08:40 AM PST One of the biggest complaints I hear every semester is the rising cost of textbooks. Not only are they ridiculously overpriced, but the buyback rate is a pittance in comparison to what you originally paid. Multiply that by four or five classes and you are looking at a serious depletion to your bank account. What's a girl to do? Follow these five steps to save big on your books. 1. Do Your ResearchThe first step to successful saving is to research your query BEFORE the buying frenzy of the fall or winter semesters begin. Universities usually give you the teachers name and email address the moment you register for the class or as soon as it becomes available. Take that opportunity to drop them a line, asking which books will be required for the class and what the ISBN numbers are. Newer editions of textbooks come out every couple of years so ask your teacher if an older edition is acceptable. If it is, you can usually get these at a much cheaper rate since older editions have no buyback value. than the newer ones since older editions have a buyback value of almost nothing. 2. Consider your situationTextbooks are one of two things; an investment purchase or an impulse buy, and you should consider what yours are going to be for you personally before you buy. If the textbooks are for your major field of study they count as an investment purchase and you should consider buying these new. Assuming that you don't switch majors tomorrow, they are going to be with you for the remainder of your career, and as such you are going to want them to last much longer. If the textbook is for a single gen ed. course, they count as an impulse buy. Since you aren't going to need it past the end of that semester, and should get this used. Keep in mind that the more worn in the book is (i.e. highlighting, worn edges, etc.) the cheaper it is for you. Do pencil marks in a book you are never going to use past the final exam really matter anyway?
Posted: 31 Jan 2011 07:03 AM PST Every year the media is full of predictions for the coming months, most of which turn out to be completely wrong. This is usually exploited at the end of the year for a 'look-back-at-how-wrong-we-got-it' article. I figured I couldn't do any worse … 1. PoliticsPresident Berlusconi will surprise everyone by not being involved in a sex scandal for the first four months of the year – until he is discovered under a table with Carla Bruni at an official dinner. President Obama will attempt to boost his popularity by invading Lichtenstein (it's small, so the war will be fast and cheap). 2. CelebritiesGeorge Clooney, Sean Penn and Susan Sarandon will not make any films in 2011 as they are too busy protesting the invasion of Lichtenstein. Michael Moore will make a documentary on the invasion. The word 'celebrity' will be redefined in the dictionary as '1. once appeared on a reality show, 2. once dated someone who appeared on a reality show'. 3. WorldWar. Famine. Natural disaster. You get the picture. The only new event will be … no, it'll be war, famine and disaster again.
9 Things that Can Harm Your Career … Posted: 31 Jan 2011 06:44 AM PST There are a lot of things you can do these days that can get you in trouble at work. You can get written up, suspended, even fired – or you might have to change your career path altogether. Some of them are surprising, some of them are a sign of the times, and some of them … well, if you do them, you probably deserve to get in trouble. Do any of these 9 things that can harm your career seem familiar? 1. Getting ArrestedSometimes your personal life doesn’t interfere with your professional life … and sometimes it does. If you happen to get arrested, and if there is a fair amount of coverage in the local news or press, you’re definitely going to have to answer for your actions. It won’t necessarily lead to you getting fired, but your boss might be wary about giving you any good assignments or big responsibilities. 2. Social NetworkingDo you know how many people are getting fired because of things like Facebook and Twitter? Not only should you refrain from using them at work, but you shouldn’t write anything about work either, unless you know for certain that no one you work with can read it. I mean, even colleagues who are friends, because you never know when things might go awry. You should also avoid keeping any … special pictures open to everyone. Your boss probably doesn’t need to see photos of you drunk and flashing at Cabo or something. 3. Get Caught Playing SickThis is awful. You call in sick because you need a day, and you head on out to wherever, only to run into a colleague – or, worse, your boss. Now, I am in now way going to sit here and tell you to never call in sick unless you’re ill, but maybe you ought to stay in the house. Or else only go really far away, where you know none of your colleagues are likely to show up out of nowhere.
9 Amazing DIY Cleaning Products … Posted: 31 Jan 2011 06:21 AM PST Cleaning products are too frigging expensive. I’m tired of spending the money. Plus, okay, I just happened to be watching a random episode of that show "Downsized" last week, and the family was busy making their own cleaning products. I can do that! So I went on a quest to discover 9 amazing DIY cleaning products that cost way, way less than the name brand options. 1. Air FreshenersDo you know how expensive Febreeze products are? It’s crazy – and you don’t need them! Making your own air freshener is as easy as squeezing lemon juice into a bowl filled up halfway with baking soda. Then you just let it sit, uncovered. Lemon can also eliminate mold, so there’s a bonus. 2. Carpet CleanersI have pets. They do not like the carpet and the carpet does not like them. You can imagine how much money I have spent on carpet cleaners. No longer, since all you need to remove pesky spots is a mixture of equal parts water and white vinegar. Put it into a spray bottle, spray the mixture right on a stain, let it soak in, and then sponge it up using soapy water. Or, if you have a more serious stain, mix in a quarter cup of borax, vinegar, and salt. This results in a paste you can rub into your carpet. Let it stay there for a couple of hours, then vacuum it up and, again, rinse it up with warm, soapy water. 3. All-Purpose CleansersIf you need a little something for everything, all you need is a little water and vinegar. This time its one part vinegar to nine parts water in your spray bottle. However, if you need to clean a counter top after working with raw chicken, straight vinegar followed by a little bit of peroxide will knock the germs for a loop.
7 Tips on Playing Fallout New Vegas … Posted: 31 Jan 2011 06:13 AM PST Fallout New Vegas is a complex game that allows you to do whatever you want throughout the entire game. If you want to be evil and kill everyone in the game and be the most hated person in New Vegas, then you can be. On the other hand, you can be nice and play the hero card and save the people of the wasteland. Let me give you 7 Tips on Playing Fallout New Vegas … 7. Choose Your Side WiselyIn New Vegas there are factions that have their own beliefs and rules. The NCR is the military of the land. However, their main goal in New Vegas is to keep control of the Hoover Dam. You can side with them or side with the power gangers, fiends or even the Caesar. Each side makes another faction mad. So, choose wisely. 6. Pack The Right WeaponsEach weapon serves a different purpose in this game. Use a sniper or hunting rifle to pick people from afar. If you are close range, you can use energy weapons or shotgun. If your foe has armor on, you should use a gun that penetrates armor or use a gun with large amount of armor. The plasma weapon is slow, but packs a large punch to light and heavy armored enemies, 5. Learn How To SurviveIn this wasteland it’s hard to survive and food, water and weapons is hard to get. So, you need to make enough caps and learn how to persuade people to give you more for helping them. You should also help as many people as you can, because some people become your companion and help you by tagging along.

8 Things I Plan On Buying During 2011 … Posted: 31 Jan 2011 12:20 AM PST This is a personal list I decided to write for the New Year. Here are 8 things I plan on buying during 2011. I'm hoping that many of them can be purchased as soon as possible, before bigger and better things make their way to my list. I try to be fairly thrifty when it comes to spending money, but I know there are times when making purchases become a necessity. 8. A bigger flash driveI seem to have difficulty emptying my flash drive regularly enough to allow room for new stuff to be put onto it. I figured if I bought a larger flash drive, then I'd have plenty of room for new information and I wouldn't have to delete any of the info from my current flash drive. It's probably best to have more than one flash drive anyway, especially with all the computer work I tend to do. 7. New tiresEven though I plan on buying these this year, I have no idea just how soon I'll get around to purchasing them. I drive my car a lot. I've put more than 160,000 miles on it and it is just barely 6 years old. My parents and grandmother each live 4 hours in different directions from me. This means I have to travel 4 hours one way to see my grandmother and the opposite direction to see my parents. I've been across the country multiple times in my car, so it's no wonder there are so many miles on it. I don't plan on lessening the amount of distance I travel, which is why investing in some new tires this year might be a wise one to make. 6. A mixerI'm not talking about a cement mixer, although my husband would probably be more thrilled with this type of mixer. I'm referring to a mixer for the kitchen. I don't care if it comes with a stand or I have to hold it in my hand or even if it is used. My hands, forearms, and shoulders still ache from all the cookies and desserts I baked for the holidays. I've been making desserts without the aid of a mixer for many, many years and have finally hit a time in my life where my body has decided to revolt against me. I'll definitely have to purchase a mixer before this holiday season approaches.
7 Things to Consider When Picking Pet Food … Posted: 31 Jan 2011 12:04 AM PST If you are at all like me, your pets mean the world to you. I have two dogs, two cats, and a rabbit – and I love every member of my menagerie. Their health is hugely important to me. I mean, these guys are like my practice children or something. I am especially protective, pampering, and given to spoiling the hot dog, but anyway. The point is, you have to think carefully about what they eat, so here are 7 things to consider when picking pet food. 1. QualityQuality is always an important consideration. You have to pay attention yourself to how the food looks, how it smells, and so on. I mean, my dogs will eat toilet paper and my cats will eat dog food, so they basically have no taste. Sometimes it’s up to us to decide when something is a little too gross for our pets to eat. 2. PriceAt the onset, this might seem selfish, but it’s really not. One thing to remember is that most expensive is not always better. Just because a pet food costs an arm and a leg doesn’t mean it is the best kind available. Another thing to remember is that there is no reason to make yourself go broke over pet food. Some of that money will be better spent taking your animals to the vet, buying them toys – or, you know, getting the little guy a new jacket because he ate his last one. 3. BrandThat being said, there is something to be said about the brand. You may not want to go with a super off-brand because heaven knows what is going into the food. Then, too, the best top brand won’t necessarily be the best food choice for your pets. Take branding with a grain of salt and instead focus on what seems to work for your pets.

Posted: 30 Jan 2011 10:39 PM PST I haven't visited my profile in about a week, and right now, I'm feeling pretty positive about Facebook. LOL! It could be because it's been a while since I had the chance to see stupid status updates. Now, let's be real for a second – no matter how lame can Facebook get sometimes, there are still plenty of useful and even profitable stuff to use it for. So, here's what I have to suggest: 1. Reconnect with peopleSearch for your classmates, former colleagues and all other interesting people you used to know. They don't think you're lame because you actually remember them. In fact, chances are they tried to search for you too, but they didn't recognize you or failed to get your last name right. Teens these days consider sending friend requests first needy. They play it cool hoping the "mutual friend" will react first. But, we know better than that, right? 2. ChatThere's at least one thing you and your family and friends living abroad have in common – Facebook. You see, chat programs that need to be installed before use can be a bother sometimes, especially if a person you want to talk to uses a shared computer. Chatting with people you can't meet live because they are too far away is not lame and it definitely isn't a waste of time. So, feel free to use modern technology to stay in touch with your loved ones. 3. Post picturesSome people say posting pictures on Facebook is lame. I don't share that opinion, especially if you have made your profile private and viewable to friends only. Sharing pictures is a great way to make sure both you and your friends won't miss out on anything. It also saves time and trouble because you won't have to drag your vacation photo album to every get-together and you'll actually spend that time socializing instead of staring into a bunch of other people's photos while trying to explain every single detail about yours.
7 Books I Would Like to Read … Posted: 30 Jan 2011 10:36 PM PST I'd have to say that reading is my second favorite thing to do. I usually happen upon many good books by roaming through the library and picking up novels with interesting covers. There are a few books my grandmother passes on to me that are excellent reads as well. These 7 books I would like to read were chosen from a handful of book reviews I recently read. 7. Perfect by Natasha FriendPrice: $10.41 at amazon.com I often find books dealing with personal pain and suffering to be rather difficult to read. However, this book sounds like it supplies a more witty approach to the often touchy subject of bulimia. The main character is named Isabella. Her mom forces her to join a group designed for people with eating disorders. Isabella is bummed about going, but actually perks up a bit to find out that the 'leader' of the most popular girls in school is going to the same group meeting. 6. Cross Fire by James PattersonPrice: $15.10 at amazon.com Of the many Alex Cross mysteries I've read, there haven't been any that I've found to be disappointing. From the review I read on this book, the reader receives important information before the main character in the story does. For his twelfth book in this series, it sure sounds just as exciting as the others were! Kyle Craig, a nemesis of Alex Cross, also makes an appearance in this book. 5. Be More Chill by Ned VizziniPrice: $7.99 at amazon.com This is a rather sci-fi type of book, which I like to read from time to time. The story revolves around a high school student named Jeremy who is considered to be somewhat of a geek. He finds out there is something that will help him to be more 'cool'. It is a computer chip known as a squip. Once he ingests the computer chip, Jeremy will be more at ease around girls, more fun at parties, and basically a guy who fits in a bit better with the 'in' crowd.
