| 7 Reasons Why A Little Mess Won’t Hurt … Posted: 20 Feb 2011 12:04 PM PST I freely admit that I'm not exactly a domestic goddess. Really, I feel that life is too short to worry about your house being perfect, and that as long as the kitchen and bathroom are clean, then it doesn't matter if there's a bit of clutter and mess elsewhere. Obviously nobody wants to get to the point where they end up 'starring' on 'Hoarders', but those are very extreme cases. Here are some reasons why a little mess won't cause any harm. 1. Show Homes Are For SellingIf your house is up for sale, then of course it will need to be tidy and clean. No potential buyer is going to be impressed if they have to tread carefully so they don't squash your belongings. But for normal family life it's no fun living in a home that looks like it belongs in the pages of a glossy magazine. 2. More To Life Than HouseworkI'm led to believe that there are, as crazy as it may sound, some people who actually enjoy housework. Okay … well, to each their own. Personally I do what needs to be done but no more, as there are so many other, more enjoyable things to occupy your time with. Who wants to do chores when they've already been working all day? 3. Super Clean Is Not GoodThe link between the rise in allergies and increased obsession with cleaning is well documented. This is not to say that houses weren't clean in the past, rather that we go to extremes these days, freaking out if our kids are crawling around on a slightly dirty floor. However, it's better that they are exposed to some germs so that they build up an immunity. |

So, of course, I am going to include the beach on my list. 27. Write a Poem or BookThis is definitely something I would do. 26. Camp OutThis sounds like some fun, just make sure you stay safe. 25. Go BackpackingGoing backpacking sounds like a lot of excitement. |
| Posted: 20 Feb 2011 10:57 AM PST I just got done writing 7 facts about girls and I wanted to switch over here and write 7 facts about boys real quick. Of course, since I am not a boy, I will be going with what I have noticed other guys doing and what I have saw them talking about on forums. Let me get started on these 7 facts … 7. What Guys Look ForGuys don't really look for girls that look good. I mean, sure, that is always a plus. They prefer presentable girls that are neat. That is good looking, in their opinion. Of course, some guys are different. 6. Girls AttentionOh yes, many of you girls probably have experience with this one. Guys will do anything in order to get a girls attention. If it means going out of their way, then they will do it. 5. Touching a Guy's HeartFor those of you who have touched a guys heart before, you know exactly where I am coming from with this one. When you touch a guys heart, there will be no turning back. As a little reminder, you should never lead guys on. If you do not like him, then just tell him … before you win his heart. |
| 7 Tips To Help You Prepare For Taxes … Posted: 20 Feb 2011 10:54 AM PST It’s here – tax time! The best way to save you time and money is to be prepared. But how can you do that? Tax time can be frustrating as well as stressful. Some people strike out all alone and do their own taxes. A few lucky ones ask for advices and use a tax service. If you are doing your own and need a few quick tips, read on to find out how you, too, can get 'er done!
 1. Get Organized
The worst thing that you can do is to go in to your CPA with a box stuffed full of receipts and leave it at that. Invest in some manila folders and separate everything according to what it is. Fuel receipts, bills and such, office supplies, whatever. If you run a small business, type out a month-by-month list of expenses and what they are. It’s a little time invested, but you and your CPA will appreciate it in the end. And, if you do this throughout the year, it’s a real time saver! 2. Don’t Wait
This picture is most people – they’ve waited until April 15th to get their taxes done and they’re rushing to the post office to get it postmarked. Don’t let this be you. The earlier, the better. Not only will you get your refund quicker (if entitled) but you get the worry and the hassled over that much quicker. Just think – stress free all of February and April because you done your taxes in January! 3. Make A List
Make a list of anything and everything you need for taxes. This way, you will only have to make one trip to the CPA – no returns except to pick up your stuff! |
| 7 Essential Red Things for Every Woman … Posted: 20 Feb 2011 10:52 AM PST Let's face it, red makes a statement. Colour theorists say it's dynamic and is the colour of love, courage, anger, and joy. It's my favourite colour. I adore it. I'm immediately drawn to it and if a line comes in red there's no other choice for me. And, it has to be red, people who say pink is just another form of red are so so wrong. Here are some essential red things. 1. Shoes
Photo Credit: Némida Whether it's a pair of Jimmy Choo Cage Sandals or converse sneakers, every wardrobe should have a pair of red shoes. Red shoes are no longer just for wearing on trips home to Kansas. 2. Underwear
Photo Credit: my 38Bs Don't be tempted into thinking that you can get away with red and black. It must be red all the way. You can't help but feel good in red lingerie and whether you want to feel like a sl*t or a sex kitten, red is best. I have fallen big time for the new Fifi from Agent Provocateur. 3. Food
Photo Credit: Chris Inside It might seem an odd inclusion but did you know that red foods contain far more of the really beneficial nutrients than other coloured foods. They are packed with powerful healthy antioxidants. These helpful little wonders of the food world attack nasty free radicals and help in the fight against cancers, heart disease, stroke risk and macular degeneration which is the leading cause of blindess in the over 60s. It's really easy to increase your intake, choose red apples over green, use red bell peppers instead of others, snack on dried cranberries and cherries and drink cranberry juice instead of orange. |
| 8 Communication Ideas For an Introvert … Posted: 20 Feb 2011 10:51 AM PST Being an introvert can be difficult in a world that seems to be dominated by extroverts. Introverted people can find it challenging to express their views when they are surrounded by dominating personalities who seem to know the ropes of communication all too well. Here are some communication ideas for an introvert to break out of their shells. 1. Start smallYou don't have to begin by giving a public speech. Start by introducing yourself to people in a polite way. This can surely be overwhelming, but you can master your nerves by practicing in front of the mirror until you feel comfortable. 2. Use limited time opportunitiesMake use of time slots that have limited time, like lunch breaks. You will feel more comfortable when you know that the break will end soon and that you will not have to do much talking. 3. Make use of your strengthsThis is perhaps one of the most important of all communication ideas for an introvert. Introverts tend to be great listeners because they don't talk very much. Being a good listener can be the foundation of great relationships. |
| 7 Silly Decisions Made by Celebrities … Posted: 20 Feb 2011 10:50 AM PST Celebrities often do stupid things. They’re maybe no sillier than the decisions you and I make, it’s just that we don’t have paparazzi following us around, or friends who are willing to share stories with the media for money. It’s unquestionably unfair to judge celebrities for what they do … but, in my opinion, it’s totally okay to laugh at them, and definitely okay to learn from you. Who knows what you’ll learn by reading about these 7 silly decisions made by celebrities? 1. Sex, Lies, and Videotapes
Photo Credit: buzzworthy.mtv.com So many celebrities have sex tapes out now, and it seems like there’s a new one every week. I have never in life watched one of these, and I don’t intend to. I don’t want to see Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian, or Tommy Lee naked. Not for anything. However, now it’s not just sex tapes. As in the case of Miley Cyrus, there are also drug tapes. It makes you wonder when they’re going to learn that if someone is filming them, they might just want to sit there and read a book. 2. Running from the Law
This one is devoted to one celebrity: Randy Quaid. I love Randy. Granted, I am a bigger fan of Dennis Quaid, but I think Randy’s awesome too. Randy, why run from the authorities? They’re going to catch you. One has to wonder if it’s not just because he knows that at least web sites like TMZ and, oh, All Women Stalk, will finally be talking about him again. 3. Down Under & Off the Wall
I miss the old Mel Gibson. I really do. The escapades in his private life, which shouldn’t be anyone else’s business but which naturally alter your opinion of him when they come to light, have completely eclipsed his immense talent. I just cannot comprehend the fact that Braveheart gets all sloppy drunk and verbally abuses a woman who may or may not have provoked him into a rage for purposes of blackmail. Regardless, Mel, verbal abuse is still abuse! |
| 9 Rules of Beauty You Can Break … Posted: 20 Feb 2011 10:28 AM PST You’ve all heard about them. Certain rules and regulations about beauty that you’re never supposed to break. I think that’s rubbish! Beauty is an individual thing that often defines rules. So in that spirit, here are 9 rules of beauty you can feel free to break! 1. Don’t Count Your Strokes
Have you ever been told that you need to brush your hair 100 times to give it shine and body? Well, not so much. It’s not going to give you super healthy hair either. In fact, it can damage your hair. If you brush it too much, your hair can start breaking. So, just brush as much as you need to, so you can banish the tangles and snarls. 2. Liner Doesn’t = Longer
Everybody says your lip liner needs to match your lipstick, adding that it will make your lipstick stay on longer. Really, though, this doesn’t work. Especially if you line your lips in a darker color, you can end up with some really weird looking dark lines at the end of the evening. What you can do to make your lip color last longer is color in the entirety of your lips with liner, then apply the gloss over it. 3. Lather, Rinse, Repeat
Your shampoo tells you to do this. Your friends tell you to do this. Your stylist tells you do this. Countless beauty experts tell you to do this. You know what? Don’t do this. Washing your hair too much can strip the natural oils out of your hair, and that’s bad. In fact, it can damage your hair. Promise, just once will do it – maybe another wash if your hair feels really dirty, but don’t do it all the time. |

| 7 Tips on Overcoming Indecisiveness … Posted: 20 Feb 2011 09:59 AM PST If you're like me, decision making is a tough process. It always involves weighing up all the options, analysing things to the Nth degree, and going through all the worst-case scenarios. Each option has its pros and I flip-flop between them all. It can all turn into a very lengthy process. So here are a few tips I keep in mind for when I need to overcome my indecisiveness. 1. Go with your gut instinctThis is probably the most obvious and common tip, but that's because it works. Sometimes it may take a bit of practice, especially if you are used to overanalysing and thinking through every little detail. Start small and practice with things like making a rushed decision when you're at a restaurant or what check out aisle to go to at the supermarket. You'll be perfecting the art of snap decision making in no time! 2. Always have a back-up planIf you make a decision, and it turns out to be the wrong one, it's always handy to have a Plan B. This isn't a sign of lacking confidence in your decision making skills, it's just being prepared. Usually when things go pear-shaped, we have to mend the damage quickly. Don't dwell on where you went wrong, instead focus on what you can do right next time. 3. Don't be afraid to ask for adviceSometimes all we need is a second opinion before we can feel comfortable in our choices. It's OK to ask a close friend or family member for advice. Remember to choose wisely though. As long as they are honest in their opinions, and don't have ulterior motives, their influence may just be the push you need. |
| 9 Celebrities that Are Not Afraid of their Curves … Posted: 20 Feb 2011 09:39 AM PST I can see the comments now – "you're telling women that it is okay to be overweight." I am certainly not doing that. However, by showing you 10 celebrities that are not afraid of their curves, I am hoping to get a message across. No matter who you are, no matter what size you are and no matter what you look like, you need to love yourself. Pretty does not always equal being a size zero. You can be a size 25 plus and still be pretty in people's eyes – let me give you some celebrities that I look up to … 9. America Ferrera
Photo Credit: connect.in.com We know her from Ugly Betty. In reality, she certainly is not Ugly Betty. What I like about her is the confidence she shows with her weight. In 2008, I quote, "We’re not all a size 2 and we’re not all a size 0, and you know what? That’s okay because some of us like to eat." Yes, that is definitely a celebrity that is not afraid of her curves and I look up to her for this. 8. Mo’Nique
Photo Credit: allstarpics.net Mo'Nique is certainly the type of girl that is not afraid of her curves. She has always claimed that she is fat and fabulous and that is exactly what she is. She told Jet magazine "Let's be healthy big people." She has claimed that she shed forty pounds the natural way. |
| 7 Reasons to Make a Career Change … Posted: 20 Feb 2011 09:26 AM PST In this economy, where jobs are scarce, it might seem foolish to even consider a career change. There are many reasons, though, that can make changing careers the right thing to do, regardless of what's happening on Main Street or Wall Street. Here are 7 reasons to make a career change… 1. EducationYou've been taking night or online classes for years, earning credits here and there towards your degree, and now you've finally finished. So why waste all of that hard work by staying in your hated, menial job? Now that you have your degree, start looking for something new, something in the field you've studied, and mastered. 2. Lay-offIf you've been laid off, you're probably sitting at home, collecting unemployment, waiting by the phone to be called back to work. Well, sweetie, this might be the perfect time to make a career change! Consider what you really want to be doing, and the fact that you may never be called back… and go for it! 3. Your calling is calling! If you've always dreamed of working with the elderly, or wanted to teach English to Korean immigrants, or help children learn to read, or sell exotic birds, or bake wedding cakes, why on earth are you an accountant? You only live once, so why waste another minute working in a job that's nothing like your dream? |
| 7 Most Embarrassing Situations at Work and How to Get Out of Them … Posted: 20 Feb 2011 09:08 AM PST The office is seldom a working environment only, especially if we are talking about a big company with a lot of workers. You'll run into a lot of quiet colleagues, a lot of gossipers, the ones that spend every moment of their free time grooming themselves and the ones that couldn't care less about their outside appearance. You spend half of your day there, 5 days a week which comes to about 240 days per year give or take a few. An embarrassing situation is bound to happen sooner or later, so when it does, here's some tips on how to act… 1. Food stuck in the teethFifty percent of people wouldn't tell this to their co-workers so, if you realize you've been walking around with a piece of spinach or whatnot stuck in your teeth waaay past lunchtime, let it be a lesson to you. Always check your teeth after lunch and never be one of those "too embarrassed to let others know" types. 2. Running into your boss in the toiletteMen are the ones that are exposed to higher risk of going through this embarrassing situation but, given the fact that a lot of companies have unisex bathrooms too, women are not off the hook either. Stumbling upon your boss in the toilette is not a good time to be chatty, discuss business or anything of that sort. Casual "Hello" is good enough to greet him and then go and take care of your "business" and let him take care of his. 3. Your co-worker needs a breath mint… ASAP!Don't worry, you don't have to tell him, "Gee, man, your breath smells like something has died inside your mouth!" Some people have bad breath no matter how often they brush their teeth – I've been told this has something to do with that small flap stop the bad smells spreading out of our stomach. Once girl that used to sit next to me sometimes in high school had very bad breath and I've found a very acceptable, non-embarrassing way to deal with it. Always have a box of breath mints with you and once you feel like you can't take it anymore, take one and offer one to your co-worker and everybody that happened to be next to you at the time. |
| Posted: 20 Feb 2011 08:57 AM PST Dull or discoloured skin can really wreck even the hottest of looks and usually, experts suggest, it's the product of a stressful lifestyle. Unfortunately ladies, we all feel the pressure at work or school from time to time so it's inevitable that at some point, our skin will suffer. Luckily though, with a little TLC it's easy to restore that natural, healthy glow. Here are a few tips to show you how … 1. An Old FavouriteGirls, trust me, it isn't called beauty sleep for nothing. A good night's rest allows skin to breathe and regenerate, and will leave you feeling fresh and looking fab in the morning. I know it's hard, but try to work a solid seven hours somewhere into that busy schedule; trust me, you'll reap the benefits all day long. In short, a good’ night sleep is always necessary for glowing, healthy skin. 2. Vitamin E and Fragrance FreeUse a cleanser and moisturiser that are Vitamin E enriched to promote skin repair and moisture retention, and try to stick to products that have no added scent. Often fragrances contain drying agents and allergens which result in red, raw patches and sensitivity. Ick! 3. Filtration StationsThe chlorine added to municipal water supplies is harsh on the skin and causes drying and tightness after a wash. To soften water by removing chlorine, simply install a charcoal filter in your shower head – these are widely available at good hardware and lifestyle stores, and can really make a difference. |
| 10 Signs that You Should Ditch Your Friend … Posted: 20 Feb 2011 08:52 AM PST For me, friendship is a beautiful connection between two beings. And regardless of the similarities and differences, friendships flourish because of mutual respect and love between the two parties. With this, it goes without saying that the truest friendships are those that have nothing but positivity and growth to offer. But there are times when a friend of ours brings us nothing but sadness and negativity. This is one sign that you need to cut him/her out of your life. Aside from this, there are other signs that you have need to ditch your friend. Read on to learn about them. 1. He/she can't be happy for youReal friends are happy for your accomplishments. They don't feel envious or sad when you succeed in achieving your goals. If your friend has a negative attitude towards your success, then you should think about letting him/her go. 2. He/she is fair-weatheredWhen your friend comes to you only during times of need or when you have something to offer, then you can consider him/her a fair-weathered friend. You should consider letting this person go. Real friends are there in the good times and bad times. 3. He/she is needy and possessiveMany people become friends out of the need for companionship. However, like in romantic relationships, neediness, insecurity, and possessiveness are not easy things to put up with. If your friend possesses these traits and they are putting a strain on your actions, then maybe you need say goodbye to him/her. |
| Posted: 20 Feb 2011 08:49 AM PST I think everyone should take time to sit down at least once a month to write down all the reasons they love their life. Sometimes it's easier to be thankful for what you have when you can see it right before you. Here are 8 reasons I love my life. Feel free to add some of your reasons in the comment section. 8. I have a great group of friendsMy list of friends might not be long, but the ones I do have are an awesome bunch. They are there when I need them for emotional support, they are always willing to lend a hand when I have a project that I need help on, and they are all genuinely nice people that I'm sure anyone could get along with. 7. I don't have any debtsI took care of all of my debts a few years ago. I no longer have any credit cards or outstanding loans. My car is even paid off. It's a wonderful feeling to know that I don't owe anyone money anymore. It took me many years to get to this point. Many years. I'm glad that I was able to reach it before I became a little old lady. I don't want to leave my kids with a bunch of outstanding debt that they have to pay on my behalf. 6. I can plant as many gardens as I wantHaving 25 acres and being able to do with it what I want, I can garden until I'm exhausted. Flower gardens, rock gardens, herb gardens, perennial gardens, or any other type you can imagine can be planted in any number of places in my yard. Gardening is what keeps me sane during the year. I don't know what I'd do without them all! |
| Posted: 20 Feb 2011 08:31 AM PST What I think to be the 9 greatest inventions ever are listed below. It was hard to limit my list to just 9 items. I can think of tons of excellent inventions that have changed the world for the better. I hope you enjoy reading this list. Maybe you agree with some of these as being the greatest inventions, even if you have a different reason than mine for believing so. 9. ClockI'm sure without the clock we'd all be standing outside reading a sun dial whenever we needed to know the time. A lack of clocks would also mean that there wouldn't be any watches either. When I have to be somewhere at a certain time, I rely heavily on my watch. I think there'd be a lot less order in the world if clocks didn't exist. Store owners wouldn't know when to open or when to even tell people they'd be open. Showing up for work on time would be hard, especially when the days shorten and you don't have the sun to tell time by or an alarm to wake you up. 8. Flushing ToiletAhhh, flushing toilets! I have to say, this is definitely a great invention. I've used many outhouses in my time and even helped dig holes for a few. I'd much rather have an indoor toilet that required flushing than one I needed to dump sawdust or lye into to keep the smell from becoming overwhelming. 7. TelescopeI've gazed into the sky at the stars since I was a little kid. The first time I looked at them through a telescope was simply amazing. Initially telescopes weren't very powerful, but since the first one was invented they have really come a long way. There are the giant optical telescopes that can see up to 13 billion light years away. Radio telescopes have the power to see stars that existed during the beginning of the earth and time itself. It would be very odd to not know as much about space as we do today, thanks to telescopes. |
