8 Tips to Keep from Arguing with Your Partner …

8 Tips to Keep from Arguing with Your Partner …

I am in a wonderful relationship, with someone who is my best friend and partner – and we still fight like proverbial cats and dogs. The thing is, we never fight over anything big; when there’s a big issue, we communicate beautifully (after lots of work, of course). But with little nitpicking things, like issues that come from living with another person, we totally argue. I am trying to get better at it, because I’ll admit, a lot of it’s on me – I’m a Leo, if that gives you any indication. If you want to stop going at it with your boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, or wife as well, then here are 8 helpful tips to keep from arguing with your partner.

1. Listen

This is hugely important – and for as simple as it is, it can actually be pretty hard to do. You both need to listen to each other, though, to what is said and what is meant. You need to listen closely to what’s wrong, and what the underlying issues are. You might be frustrated or angry, but you still need to hear what you’re partner is trying to tell you.

2. Don’t be Insulting

One of the most common things to do when you’re arguing with anybody is to get insulting, even if it’s only subtly so. That’s also one of the worst things you can do. You should never, ever insult your partner, not in the least because you’re angry, and it’s way too easy to say things you don’t mean when you’re upset. However, this will also make the argument that much worse, and it will likely take you away from the central issue.

3. Look for What’s Really Wrong

You might be arguing about whose turn it is to take out the trash, or how he forgot he was supposed to have dinner with your family. However, odds are that they come down to different issues – your partner might feel like you’re not pulling your weight, or you might feel like your partner doesn’t take commitments seriously. Finding the deeper issue can actually help to keep you from arguing in the future.

10 Ways to Downsize and Save …

10 Ways to Downsize and Save …

With the economy being what it is, people are tightening their purse strings all over the world. Even if you don’t need to tighten the proverbial belt, everyone needs to save some money sometimes. I’ve been watching that show "Downsized" on WEtv a lot lately, and it’s given me lots of ideas about how to downsize and thus save money. Here are 10 great ways to downsize and save that you might be able to use too!

1. Clutter Bugs

This house has tons of clutter. We got a bunch of storage space when we moved in, and promptly filled it all up with things we won’t ever really use. If you need to downsize your life, clutter is the best place to start. Not only will it do you good to get rid of all the things you don’t need, taking up space in the attic, the closets, the basement, the garage, and so on, but you can even make money by selling it. In fact–

2. Sell What You Can

If you are downsizing not just to save money but because you need money, garage sales and yard sales and things like that are excellent ideas. You can get rid of the things you don’t need anymore, and you can rack up some cash at the same time. Plus, someone else can benefit from the stuff you no longer need or use.

3. A Big Little Move

I know this isn’t always possible, at least not right away, but if it is, then you might think about moving into a smaller place. If your rent is getting you down every month, for instance, a smaller space might work better. Failing that, you might want to take a look at other areas near you, where rents might be cheaper.

7 Pros of Having an Identical Twin …

7 Pros of Having an Identical Twin …

Having an identical twin probably means people will often call you by her name and mistake you for her. However, when you think about the fact that you'll never have to be alone or go through anything on your own, it's pretty much worth it. First day at school, parties, socializing… your sister will be there too and you'll both feel more comfortable and less shy. Yup, having a twin is really cool, plus there are so many interesting, fun and sometimes even wicked things to do! But let me just list a couple of pros I have on my mind right now:

1. Stronger bond

Twins have a very special bond and, just like a mother always feels when her child is in danger, a twin knows when something is wrong with her sister. Some twins even claim they can really feel each other's pain! I know that doesn't sound like a pro, but if you think about it twice, you'll realize it's something really special you don't get to share with anybody else.

2. The possibility of passing each other's exams

Okay, I know this is bad, but you can't blame me for thinking about it. As long as it's hypothetical and in the range of "What would I do if I had this or that", it's all good. Right? My younger sis and I go to the same university and I'm often like "Oh, I wish we look alike, I've passed this exams with flying colors" LOL! Don't do it though, even if you have a twin or a sister that looks like you because you can get in serious trouble.

3. Help in embarrassing situations

Imagine this – you like a guy but you are too embarrassed to ask him out. Luckily, you have your identical twin that doesn't have a hot spot for him and won't get all goofy and weird while talking to him. You could ask her to help you out and "break the ice". Why not? I wish I had a twin to help me avoid tons of embarrassing moments.

8 Homemade Beauty Treatments that Really Work …

Girls, we spend an absolute fortune buying face masks, body scrubs and hair treatments that promise to make us younger, healthier and better looking. But how many of these actually work? Very few, is, I suspect, the answer to that question. In fact experts agree that a lot of the beauty products we buy are little more than simple moisturiser and some clever marketing. In addition, store bought lotions and potions are packed with chemicals and hormones that might, ultimately, damage our health, so why not get back to basics and sample a few tried and tested beauty solutions you can put together in your own home?

1. Exfoliating Face Mask

There are a million-and-one recipes out there for home made face packs and some of them aren't all that great. I've found one of the better concoctions for you ladies to try out yourselves; this exfoliating mask with oatmeal, cucumber and avocado is certainly a winner. The avo is packed with Vitamin E, the cucumber is a natural anti-inflammatory and the will gently buff away dead skins cells when you take the mask off.

2. Kiwi Cleanser

This home-made facial cleanser is great for oily skin and its tasty ingredients make it almost good enough to eat! You'll need one peeled kiwi fruit, a couple of tablespoons of natural yoghurt, a tablespoon of honey and a drop of orange essential oil. Mix these all together until they look thick and creamy, apply to damp skin, wash and rinse. Kiwi is chock-a-block with invigorating Vitamin C and acts as a natural detergent, gently breaking down oiliness on the skin's surface.

3. Berry Hand and Foot Exfoliant

This fruity foot and hand treatment scrubs off dead and dry skin cells, smells delicious and will leave your skin feeling fabulously soft. To make it you'll need about 10 strawberries or a handful of raspberries, a glug of olive oil and another handful of coarse sea salt or yellow sugar. Puree the strawberries in a blender, mix this up with other ingredients and massage over your hands and feet. Berries are a great natural source of antioxidants which fight skin-dulling free radicals and they're also super high in Vitamin C.

8 Essential Spaces in Your Home That Need Cleaning …

Cleanliness is next to godliness. This is especially true when it comes to your home. You can ensure the health and safety of your family by keeping your house thoroughly clean. However, there are some spaces that collect more dirt and germs than the others and it is important that you know the essential spaces in your house that need cleaning.

1. Kitchen sink

It is crucial for the kitchen sink to be as clean as possible at all times. This is where you clean your fruits, vegetables, meat, dishes, utensils, etc. If the sink is not clean, none of these items will get cleaned properly. Also, if germs begin to breed in this area, they will easily be able to move to the food items in the vicinity.

2. Bathroom sink

The bathroom sink is another of the essential spaces in your home that need cleaning. Even though it may appear to be clean, many bathroom sinks turn out to be slimy when they are even slightly wet. You need to make sure that the sink is squeaky clean.

3. Bathroom floor

The bathroom floor is likely to be one of the dirtiest places in the house and a breeding ground for many germs. Ensure that the tiles, grout, toilet bowl, toilet seat, tank, etc. are also absolutely clean.

8 Reasons to Be a Teacher …

8 Reasons to Be a Teacher …

Having taught both high school and elementary students, I can think of a number of reasons why I enjoy teaching. If you are thinking about becoming a teacher, then you might like to take a look at the following list. I greatly enjoy teaching and you'll get a glimpse at why I like it so much after reading the 8 reasons to be a teacher that are posted below.

8. Kids are very entertaining

Some of the things kids come up with are hilarious! I find the younger kids to be the most amusing. I love how their little minds work and they aren't always good at expressing themselves, but the come up with interesting ways to get their point across. Their reasoning behind certain trains of thought is great. I often come home and tell my husband some of the sayings kids came up with that particular day.

7. You can have an impact on the future

Knowing that I'm inadvertently making a difference in the future is exciting to me. The hard part is waiting for the chance to see how my efforts have paid off. I have had a few students get in touch with me once they've been through a couple of years of college and tell me that I sparked their love for science. Hopefully I'll inspire a student to pursue a field of science that will help solve some of the major dilemmas our world seems to be headed towards.

6. Summer time is your time off as well

Hooray for summertime! This is a huge perk of teaching. I like being able to spend time with my family and take the kids on vacation without having to worry about missing a bunch of time at work. I always feel so refreshed at the beginning of the next year, even though the kids seem to have forgotten a lot over the summer and we spend oodles of time recapping concepts that they should already have down pat.

10 Fashion Disasters to Avoid …

If you have ever been to the mall on a weekend, you have undoubtedly seen some of the fashion disasters walking around there. People are funny to watch, especially when it comes to fashion. Have you ever wanted to go up to someone and say, "Honey, please let me give you a makeover!" Even the best fashionistas can make the occasional faux pas so here are some major fashion disasters to avoid.

1. The Matchy Matchy Mess

Don't be too obsessive about matching your clothes and accessories. Sometimes it is better to vary it up and mix up colors, patterns, and textures. As long as the pieces compliment each other, they don't have to be an exact match.

2. The Accessory Overkill

If you are wearing a top, or jacket, that is studded or jeweled in any way, please do not wear tons of jewelry with it. Too much jewelry screams "I'm a Gypsy at a Carnival!" and that is not a look you should go for.

3. The Dark Makeup

Fashion is not just the clothes. If your face is busted, then who is going to notice the clothing? Part of fashion is how well you can apply your make-up. If you wear dark eye make-up, please do not pair dark lipstick with it, unless you are wanting to look like the Addams Family Reunion.

7 Places You Should Volunteer Your Time For …

Volunteer services are something both needed and admired. To be a volunteer is to give of your free time wholeheartedly into a program or work, expecting nothing in return except the gratification that comes with helping others. Are you up for it?

1. Homeless Shelter

Most homeless families consist of a mother and her children, without the presence of a father. If you have a homeless shelter in your area, it would be incredibly thoughtful of you to donate some time to this outreach. Help to feed and shelter those less fortunate than your self.

2. Habitat For Humanity

The great thing about this organization is that it allows that ones who have been helped to take their turn at helping someone else. So, if you’re handy with a hammer and nails, dress in your work-wear and help build a house!

3. Animal Shelter

Not only do humans need a place to stay, so do all our furry little friends! If you’re an animal person like me, an animal shelter is right up your alley! Fill your day with wet licks on the nose, furry bundles to cuddle and getting to hook that little boy up with his new dog pal! What better day could you have?

7 Gun Safety Tips …

7 Gun Safety Tips …

I believe that many are being introduced to guns in this world and they do not know any gun safety tips – or they do not care about the safety tips and ignore it. There have been so many school shootings that could have been avoided if the gun was not in the kids reach – right? They blame video games and music on shootings done by kids, but I don't think that is the correct source to blame. I believe the blame, in many cases, should be placed on the parents and the individual who did it! Instead of going any deeper into a rant, I am going to give you 7 gun safety tips …

7. Children

Even If you do not have a gun in your home, it is important to teach your children not to touch a gun – because you do not know if their friend has a gun in their home and you never know if they are going to come across one outside laying on the ground. If you feel that your children are not safe at someone's house, then don't allow them to go. Instead, invite their friends over to your house, where you know they will be safe under your watch.

6. Unloaded

When the firearm is not in use, it should be unloaded. You should never put a loaded firearm back inside your home and leave it that way – even if you do not have any children – accidents could happen.

5. Don't Modify Your Gun

You should not modify or alter the gun in any way. Apart from this, it is also important that you have it serviced regularly and keep it clean. When you clean it, make sure you follow the proper cleaning rules.

8 Exercises to Strengthen your Arms …

8 Exercises to Strengthen your Arms …

We use our arms extensively throughout the day, throughout our lives. And yet, we take our arm muscles for granted. It is only when we notice our arms losing their strength that we start thinking about the use and abuse we have put our arm muscles through. Check out these exercises to strengthen your arms before it reaches that stage.

1. Self resisted curl

This is one of the simplest exercises to strengthen your arms. Just stand straight, letting your right arm hang by your side. Place your left palm against your forward facing right palm and exert pressure on the right palm as you slowly raise it to your chest. Switch sides and repeat.

2. Horizontal curl with dumbbells

Hold dumbbells in each hand and keep both arms straight, parallel to the ground. Bend lower arm to 90 degrees while keeping the upper arm straight. Straighten your arms to original position and repeat.

3. Sideways plank walk

This is also one of the best exercises to strengthen your arms. Start by getting into the plank position (like when you want to do pushups). Your hands should be directly under your shoulders. Now move your right hand 5 inches to the right and your left hand 5 inches to the left. Return to starting position and repeat.

7 Adorable Ways to Decorate a Cake …

You don't have to have a house full of little kids to be inspired to put cute decorations on a cake. My kids are teenagers and they still like it when I make them a fun cake for their birthday or for the holidays. Thankfully the web is filled with tons of cake decorating sites and the ideas are virtually limitless! Here are 7 adorable ways to decorate a cake that I found online. I hop you like them and get a chance to try at least a couple of them.

7. Animal themed cakes

Cut a round cake in half and place the rounded sides towards one another to create the appearance of butterfly wings. Use a Twinkie for the body and frost it with the same icing the wings are covered with. Licorice pieces can be used for the antennae. The wings can be decorated with an assortment of candies to make the wings colorful. You could also decorate the entire top of the cake with a scene consisting of various animals; monkeys swinging from trees, fish swimming in an aquarium or the ocean, or a couple of smiling cats.

6. Fairytale designs

A square cake could be decorated to look like a castle. Long flat cookies could be placed around the outside of a round cake that is already frosted. Each cookie could be decorated with gummies to make the cake look like a jewel covered crown. Use one 8 inch round cake and cut 2 smaller circles out of a larger sheet cake to create a tiered cake that can be decorated like a castle. Each circle should be a different size in order for the towers to be placed at various intervals on the cake. Use cake cones and sugar cones for the towers. Place the open end of each cone together so the pointed cone sticks upward for the tower while the flat cone provides stability. Decorate it how you see fit.

I've admitted several times on this blog how much I adore bedding sets… well, it's time to come clean with my tiny obsession with beds to put them on, too! I'm always looking for pretty beds, though I don't often buy them… window shopping is usually the extent of my slight madness with beds. 7 Ways to Be Artistic …

Did you know people who have some sort of art in their lives are a lot less stressed, and tend to be happier? I know what you're thinking — but I'm not an artist! Practicing and enjoying an art, though doesn't just mean drawing or painting… there are so many ways to be artistic! And here are 7 of them, just to get you thinking…

1. Photography

You don't have to have an art or photography degree to be an amazing photographer, or to take breath-taking photos. You just have to get your camera, pay attention to light, and take lots and lots of photos. Play around with subjects and light and styles. It's fun and relaxing, and you'll end up with gorgeous photos of the people, places, and things you love.

2. Painting

There are so many types of painting, and so many styles… take a class at a local rec center or studio, and try your hand at this type of art. It's addictive, though, and you'll want to do it all the time, so be prepared to be sucked in!

3. Pottery

Whether you want to paint unfinished pottery, or use a wheel and throw your own, this is a great way to add a little art to your life. Besides the fact it's easy to get lost in your work when you're playing with pottery, it's also good messy fun.
