| 7 Interesting Negotiating Tricks and Strategies … Posted: 08 Apr 2011 10:33 AM PDT Negotiating better terms doesn't have to be scary or hard and if you want to complete every round of negotiations feeling like a winner, you simply must create your own set of negotiating tricks and strategies to help you. Don't worry, planning your moves and leaving little to chance isn't cheating, it's what all successful negotiators do! This post will, therefore, describe some of the widely used negotiation tricks and strategies as well as ways to recognize them and prevent being cheated into accepting terms that are nowhere near your ideal ones. 1. "Poker Face"Take Lady Gaga's advice and get one to use every time you want to get a great deal. Buying a used car or closing a deal with your new supplier will go much smoother if you restrain yourself from getting too excited about the product in question. Yes, I know you want it but if you show it too soon, your power to change the terms of negotiation will be significantly diminished. So, keep it cool and leave the excitement for later – once the deal has been made and you've managed to negotiate the best possible price and perks, you'll have plenty of time for expressing your happiness about it. A side note – Don't use this trick during job interviews as your behavior might be interpreted like you're not interested in the job. 2. Smart compromiseLet me tell you something no business man or woman will ever tell you because they have a reputation to maintain – in business, compromising is rarely found in its pure state. All points that could be a subject of compromise are planned ahead and nothing is left to chance. So, in order to leave the room feeling like a true winner, you simply have to add this to your list of negotiation tricks! Buyers, sellers, job applicants… this goes for all of you – you must make a list of all elements and figures you're willing to see being slightly altered and set a limit or the end value you are ready to settle for while still being happy with the way the negotiations have ended. |
| Posted: 08 Apr 2011 10:02 AM PDT As the soprano voice soars heavenwards you're carried along on a wave of emotion. Is it the pain of a broken heart she's singing about or the joy of love? Whatever the reason, I don't really mind because I love opera. Tragedy, comedy, love, hate, revenge, it's all there and all sung to delicious music. It just stirs my soul and here are 9 marvellous operas I heartily recommend. 1. Madame Butterfly – Puccini
Photo Credit: theepochtimes.com This is the story of the doomed love of Cho Cho San for the roguish Lieutenant Pinkerton. She falls in love, he doesn't. He exploits a Japanese custom to "marry her" really just to have his wicked way with her and then abandons her. Cho Cho thinks he will return from America to look after her and his. He returns three years later, however with a new bride. Cho Cho is devastated and betrayed and wants to give up her son to him. She commits suicide with a dagger. 2. Carmen – Bizet
Photo Credit: telaviv-fever.com Good boy meets bad girl. Carmen is a beautiful cigarette factory worker and has two men fighting for affection. Good soldier José helps Carmen out when she gets into trouble and goes to jail. Helping her escape he is jailed himself. When he is released he finds Carmen being wooed by Escamillo, a strutting bullfighter. Taunted and tormented, José stabs her at the same moment Escamillo slaughters a bull in the ring. 3. La Traviata – VerdiPhoto Credit: glimmerglass.org If you've seen Baz Luhrman's film Moulin Rouge then you'll already know the rough story of La Traviata as the plot is totally similar and are both based on Camille by Dumas. It's the ultimate love triangle with the consumptive heroine being the object of affection of two very different men. Poor old Violetta dies before she can get exactly who and what she wants. |
| 8 Things That Piss Off Your Waiter … Posted: 08 Apr 2011 09:49 AM PDT I spent several years in my late teens and early twenties as a waitress, so I know first-hand the difference between a table full of good customers and a table that's just going to piss a waiter off. Sometimes even the table with the best, most polite customers can be the worst, though, so I think perhaps people piss off their waiters without meaning to. To help you avoid that, here's a list of 8 things that piss off your waiter — so you can try avoid doing them! 1. Asking for nutrition informationI can barely remember my own birthday, let alone how many calories or grams of fat are in a particular drink, not to mention an entire menu. Waiters and waitresses don't know either, so don't ask them. If you want to know how badly you're breaking your diet with that Bloomin' Onion at Outback, check the website yourself before you order. Don't piss off your waiter by asking him. 2. Request hot teaThough most waiters don't mind making a cup of hot tea when they're not busy, it makes them crazy to have to do it during rush hours. Why? Because it's one of the only drinks they can't prepare ahead of time. They have to heat the water, gather all of the stuff, and bring it out. And that, my dear, takes a lot of time. If it's the busy dinner or lunch rush, order coffee or something else instead, or you'll run the risk of making your waiter mad. 3. Make them run unrealisticallyIt's okay to ask your waiter for more napkins, or extra tartar sauce, or another glass of water… if you do them all at once. But don't make requests every three seconds, and make your poor waiter run like a mad man. This will REALLY piss your waiter off. |
| Posted: 08 Apr 2011 09:28 AM PDT Even with the 7 tips on being stylish that I've listed below, I still have trouble pulling off a fashionable outfit at times. I'm thankful for my sister's assistance when I need it most. She's the reason I've been able to pull off some very stylish outfits in the past. Whenever she comes to visit, I have her raid my closet and put together a few new outfits for me and tell me what items in my closet need to head to the nearest donation box. Maybe you'll find some tips below that work well for you! 7. Determine what color suits you best
Photo Credit: kenziekate.blogspot.com A person’s skin tone often provides the basis for determining what color of clothing looks better than others. You can figure out if you should be wearing ‘warm’ or ‘cool’ colors by consulting a makeup artist. Most makeup artists are trained to help a person figure out which hues of eye shadow, blush, and foundation should be worn for the most natural look. For instance, my skin has sort of a blue undertone during the winter time, so I tend to avoid clothing that is turquoise or light green. It seems these colors makes my skin look even bluer and people think I’m coming down with the flu or some other winter time ailment. 6. Don't settle for shoes that sort of go with an outfit
Photo Credit: tulle.co.nz It’s difficult to find that perfect pair of shoes. I have yet to find a pair of shoes that goes with every outfit I own. There’s always one outfit that is rather stylish, but that I can’t find shoes to match. Settling for a pair of shoes that will have to do is no way to be stylish. 5. Get rid of clothing that you know is out of style
Photo Credit: inhabitots.com I know that there are people who hang on to clothing until it comes back in style, but some outfits simply need to be retired. I don’t like hanging on to an outfit and hoping that it will become fashionable once again in the future. I’d much rather get rid of it and update my wardrobe to fit in with the latest fashion. |

| 7 Events That Happened in 1999 … Posted: 08 Apr 2011 08:51 AM PDT During the year 1999, I was 14 years old and sometimes, I wish I could go back to those days. While the chances of finding a time machine are slim, we can relive those days by going back in memory and talking about them. Right now, I am going to give you 7 events that happened in 1999 … 8. Nelson MandelaNelson Mandela was the first black president of South Africa. On June 16, 1999, he stepped down and that is when Thabo Mbeki took over. I was fourteen during this time, but I actually remember watching this on the news channel. 7. Earthquake in TurkeyIn Turkey, on August 17, 1999, a big earthquake hit. The earthquake had a magnitude of 7.4. Unfortunately, it killed 15,600 people and left 600,000 people without homes. Looking at the pictures of this big earthquake in Turkey after it happened is horrible. 6. John William KingJohn William King (24 years old) who is a white supremacist was convicted of murder and sentenced to death. This case involved the dragging death of a colored man. I remember this crime and couldn't believe that there is people out there that do these things simply because they do not like the color of someone's skin. |
| 8 Most Exciting Formula 1 Circuits … Posted: 08 Apr 2011 08:41 AM PDT Formula 1 is a high octane sport. But what makes it immensely more exciting is the circuit it is held on. While there are many formula 1 circuits in the world, some are more exciting than the others. Here is a list of the world most exciting Formula 1 circuits. 1. Singapore Marina Bay Grand PrixThis circuit has reopened after a gap of 34 years. What makes it one of the most exciting formula 1 circuits is that fact that the races here take place at night under powerful street light, that too on the public roads of the Marina Bay area. 2. Monaco Grand PrixThe course of this race is laid out on the narrow streets of Monte Carlo and it has the beautiful harbor as its backdrop. This race attracts many celebrities, some of whom prefer to watch the race from their yachts moored at the harbor. It is also considered to be one of the toughest races, thanks to the narrow winding roads. 3. Abu Dhabi Grand PrixThis formula 1 track is laid out on Yas Island and the track weaves in and out of the marina, hotels, tourist attractions, sand dunes and beaches. With such diverse views, this is certainly one of the most exciting formula 1 circuits. |
