| 10 Pretty Pieces to Bring the Beach into Your Home … Posted: 09 Apr 2011 11:07 AM PDT Our annual beach vacation is my favorite part of summer and I look forward to it all year long! When winter dumps a mountain of snow on the roads and I'm stuck inside waiting for the ice to melt, I like to day dream about the sand between my toes and the salty breeze keeping me cool beneath the sun's hot stare. Now that spring has arrived, I'm counting down the days until my beach vacation. While I'm waiting, I've decided to bring a little bit of the beach to my home in the mountains. If warm weather has you wishing for the beach too, try incorporating these 10 pretty pieces to bring the beach into your home. 1. Cast Iron Sea Horse
 2. Beach Grass Art
 3. Aqua Glass Sea Life Bottles

| 7 Things That Pets Can Teach Us … Posted: 09 Apr 2011 11:01 AM PDT People often say that pets are wonderful for teaching children a sense of responsibility, and how to care for another creature. In my opinion, it's not just children that can learn from them, adults can as well. I've had pets nearly all my life, and I wouldn't be without them. I've learnt so much from them, and continue to do so. Here are some of the things that I think pets can teach us – without even trying. 1. ResponsibilityWhatever your age, you may never have had to take responsibility for yourself, never mind someone else. My cats rely on me to feed them, look after their welfare, and keep them housed. Through having them in my life, I've learned to take control of my own life. 2. Unconditional LoveIt may sound a bit cynical, but I think that truly unconditional love is rare in humans, except in children. With animals, however, there are no conditions – they either love you, or they don't. And yes, I do believe that animals are capable of love. Cats are stereotyped as aloof or deceptive, but mine have given me so many indications that they hold genuine affection for me. 3. TrustAgain and again it has been demonstrated that animals can reach autistic children in a way that other people can't (read this story for an example). Animals can teach that it's safe to give your trust – they never let you down and show that it's safe to give affection. |
| 7 Make-Believe Creatures I Wish Were Real … Posted: 09 Apr 2011 10:42 AM PDT Think about it — we come in contact with so many mythical, make-believe characters each year. From Baby New Year and Father Time in January to Santa Claus at Christmas, there seems to be someone new and exciting each month. If only some of these pretend people were real! Here are 7 make-believe creatures I wish were real. 1. Santa Claus
Photo Credit: pdphoto.org Whether you want to trace the legend of the Santa Claus to Saint Nicholas, Sinterklaas, or Odin, or all three, they all bear only a passing resemblance to the heavily commercialized version we know now. But still, what's not to love? He knows what gift we want to receive more than anything, and on Christmas Day, he leaves it for us. He's jolly, not concerned about calories, and has impeccable taste in red velvet clothing. Oh, how I wish he were real! 2. The Easter Bunny
Photo Credit: honeygrovechamber.com As a woman who adores chocolate more than any other food on earth, I am especially fond of the Easter Bunny, who brings me a big basket heaped with Lindt and Ghirardelli every spring. Oh, and the Cadbury's Cream Eggs. And Jelly Belly Jelly Beans. And sometimes, Tiffany jewelry. I love the Easter Bunny, who happens to be, at this time, my boyfriend. I can't wait to see the "Hop" movie, too! 3. The Tooth Fairy
Photo Credit: toddharrisfamily.blogspot.com Feared and loved in equal measure by children across the United States, the Tooth Fairy is one of my heroes as a parent. I can't think of any other way we parents can convince our children to let us pull their loose teeth, or to help them think of it as a positive thing, not a negative. I like to imagine her like the Fairy from Pinocchio, sweet and kind, with a bandolier of teeth across her chest. |
| 7 Remedies to Help a Wound Heal Quicker … Posted: 09 Apr 2011 10:33 AM PDT I'm sure most of these 7 remedies to help a wound heal quicker aren't new to you. I've listed quite a few of the more common methods for treating wounds that I know of and provided a few home remedies that also work well. Feel free to leave your personal remedies in the comment section. I'm always interested in the different techniques people use for healing wounds. 7. Keep the wound cleanIt's best to clean the wound with peroxide until you get all the dirt and debris bubbled out. Dousing it with some rubbing alcohol or iodine afterwards will make sure that it is thoroughly clean. Don't use hand soap or body wash to clean a wound, especially a very deep one. These tend to contain perfume and a lot of ingredients that can irritate a wound of any size. 6. Apply antibacterial ointmentBactine, Neosporin, Polysporin, or Tea Tree oil are all great antibacterial products that can be added to wounds. Tea Tree oil might burn a little and shouldn't be applied to a deep wound. The other three types of ointment often have pain reliever added to them, so you get the antibacterial benefit plus a reduction in pain. 5. Don't let the wound dry outA cut, scrape, or any size of wound that is allowed to dry out quickly will cause the skin to become tight and will be more likely to bust open on its own. Be sure not to pick the scab if the wound does dry out rather suddenly. Apply some ointment and a band aid if necessary to provide some moisture to the wound. |
| 8 Most Shocking News Stories of 2010 … Posted: 09 Apr 2011 10:27 AM PDT There is no doubt that 2010 has been a very newsworthy year. A number of high profile events have appeared on our social, political, ethnic and sexual horizons. To pick the most shocking events of such an eventful year is decidedly a tough challenge, but here is my list of the 8 most shocking news stories of 2010. 1. Toyota recall in 2010
Photo Credit: carsbulletin.com 2010 has been a bad year for Toyota. It had to recall over 2 million of its vehicles from the roads. First there was a floor mat problem and then there was a problem with sudden acceleration due to faulty gas pedal, a malfunction which caused over 34 deaths across the country. 2. WikiLeaks founder accused for sex crimes
Photo Credit: telegraph.co.uk After WikiLeaks leaked hundreds of thousands of classified documents that severely strained diplomatic relations between several countries and endangered the lives of government operatives, founder Julian Asagne finds himself charged with sex crimes in Sweden. 3. Acid victim self-victimizedPhoto Credit: columbian.com Last year, the Balloon boy took a chance on his life to become famous. In the year 2010, Pamela Storro deformed herself by splashing acid all over her face and claimed to have been attacked while walking in Washington State Park. |
| Posted: 09 Apr 2011 10:07 AM PDT Berries are brilliant. Well I think so and nutritionists do too. Berries not only taste pretty good but they are full of anti-oxidants –– those little phytonutrients that work magic against free radicals and are thought to be anti-aging, disease risk preventing and even symptom curing. They are also really easy to eat and most are best as nature intended —– raw. Here are 7 berries you should eat. 1. CranberryThese really should be renamed the ladyberry because many a woman swears by them when it comes to problems with the urinary tract. It's quite often a sign that when a woman sticks a carton of cranberry juice in the fridge at work, she's suffering from cystitis. The next time you buy a mouthwash, you might find it contains a compound from the cranberry – proanthocyanidine because it prevents plaque formation on teeth. 2. Goji BerryThis strange dry tasting berry, usually from Tibet, contains more Vitamin C than an orange and on the anti-oxidant scale has way way way more than prunes, cherries, blueberries and Kale. Not only do they do you good, if you buy certified berries from Tibet, you are also helping the economy of a developing nation. 3. BlueberryOne of the berries you should eat is very often the first item that people write down on a list of superfoods. The blue colour comes from compounds called anthocyanin, one of the most powerful anti-oxidants. This has been found to be efficacious in slowing down macular deterioration, i.e. vision impairment that comes with age. Ladies might also like to know that the polyphenols in blueberries help in the production of collagen which keeps skin supple and reduces wrinkles. |
| 9 Beautiful Blouses for Spring … Posted: 09 Apr 2011 09:12 AM PDT I am so excited for spring – still! As I write this, again, there have been two sunny, mostly warm days in a row. Know what that means? Spring clothing! All I currently have are sweaters and heavy long sleeved tops, which means that if the temperatures ever really get up to the 50s, I’m going to burn up – and isn’t it sad that 50 degrees is comparably hot? Anyway, my idea of spring tops is kind of funky: I want something that’s going to keep me cool, but also won’t make me freeze to death if I get caught without a jacket when the temperatures drop. With that being said, check out these beautiful blouses for spring! 1. Trouve Oversize Crop Tee
 2. Splendid Cowl-Neck Top
 3. Lslv Slub Knit Cardigan

| 7 Ways to React When You Run into His Ex … Posted: 09 Apr 2011 08:43 AM PDT Running into your boyfriend's ex can be awkward no matter what the circumstances. Whether the two of you were friends or you stole him from her or are complete strangers, it can be an uncomfortable experience for both parties not to mention the guy in question. Here are 7 ways to react when you run into his ex. 1. A warm smile and pleasant greetingThis is perhaps the very best way to react if there hasn't been any wrong doing on your part. Being friendly and pleasant will take away a great deal of the awkwardness and make everyone feel more at ease. Of course if you act too friendly when you've actually been the other woman, she is probably not going to take too kindly to it. 2. Avoid eye contact and ignore herA less mature and more common way to react when you run into his ex is to just ignore her. The minute you notice her you turn away and ensure that you never make eye contact. The two of you peacefully coexist in the store or restaurant completely ignoring each other. The discomfort may prevail but at least it's private. 3. Duck behind a bushThis is what happens when you have a guilty conscience otherwise there is no reason why you would want to duck behind a bush when you see her coming your way. Either that or you desperately want to avoid any awkwardness but this kind of behavior is totally bizarre. |
| Posted: 09 Apr 2011 08:26 AM PDT Ladies, in this day and age, we've moved on from frying our skins. There are a million and one reasons why keeping your complexion fresh and creamy is a great idea. I've put together a list of 8 perks of pale skin that will bring you over to the lighter side. Read on, girls; you might just find yourself converted! 1. Skin CancerWe've known for decades now that exposure to the sun causes skin cancer. Why do we continue to soak up the UV rays? I think a life threatening illness is a great reason to avoid lying in the sun. Stay pale and interesting, ladies, it's healthier by far. 2. WrinklesExposure to the sun causes your skin to age prematurely, girls, and that's something that nobody wants. Slap on that sun block and prevent early onset wrinkling: you'll absolutely appreciate your foresight in a few years time. 3. Sun SpotsAfter wrinkles, pigmentation is about the most noticeable sign of aged skin, and, surprise surprise, they don't manifest if you stay out of the sun. In general, staying paler helps to keep you looking young. Invest in a spray tan if you must: your older self will certainly thank you! |
