| 7 Tips to Keep your House Sparkling Clean … Posted: 13 Apr 2011 11:22 AM PDT The battle of housewives against germs and all other unclean agents has been raging on for time immemorial. It's the effort of every homemaker to keep the house spotless clean & oust the existence of these tiny menaces from all likely places. Perhaps, you should now turn your attention to the unlikely places as well. Here are 7 tips to keep your house sparkling clean! 1. Kitchen sink and CountertopAlthough most women make the effort to clean the countertops and kitchen sink thoroughly, most of the times they depend on water to do the trick. Water does not eliminate the germs hanging around in the sink's drain or the rags, sponges, towels, and scrubbers you use. What you need to do is clean your counters and the sink every day with an anti-bacterial cleaner and twice a week with a solution of bleach and water. 2. The Chopping boardsChopping boards, unknown to you, are the best possible carriers for food contaminants. Pathogens hiding in leafy greens, berries, and potatoes can make their way into the chopping board and get transferred to other foods.Wash all your fruits and vegetables well; use cutting boards made of plastic or glass since they are more resistant to germs, and use separate boards for chopping meats and vegetables. After you're done using the chopping boards, clean it in hot, soapy water, following which you spray a mixture of bleach and water (1 tsp to 16 ounces). Rinse the board again with hot water. 3. The Shower or Bath TubAll the germs that are washed off your body in the shower do not end up in the drain. They could be thriving in the moist environment of your bathroom. Disinfect the bathroom floor once a week and rub the sides of the shower and tub with anti-bacterial disinfectant as well. |
| 9 Ways to Make a Bad Day Better … Posted: 13 Apr 2011 10:46 AM PDT Everyone has bad days, those days when it seems like everything that can go wrong does – usually twice. The good news is that there are tons of ways to make a bad day better, many of which may surprise you. Keep this list in mind the next time you’re down in the dumps; you can use it to turn your frown upside down in no time! 1. Read a Good BookThis always makes me feel better, especially if it’s one of my favorites. I love to read, and when I lose myself in a fantasy world when I otherwise don’t feel good, then my mood instantly changes. There are books which can show you that your life’s not that bad at all, books that can put things in perspective, and books that can just help you live out a dream. Either way, reading is a great way to get past a funk. 2. Be Nice to Somebody ElseHave you ever noticed how doing something kind for someone else instantly picks up your mood as well? Sincere altruism can always make a bad day better, because it’s always buoying to know that you’ve helped make someone else feel better. The smallest things will suffice here. You can even tell the girl next to you in the shampoo aisle that you like her hair. 3. Clear Your MindSometimes clutter is what makes you feel bad. I’m not talking about clothes and shoes and books and things, I mean internal clutter. If your mind is full of warring thoughts, it can really drag you down. Try to meditate, or at least take some time out for yourself so you can clear your mind. That’s a great way to make a bad day better, because you’re focusing on yourself. |
| 7 Reasons I Love Drag Queens … Posted: 13 Apr 2011 10:41 AM PDT My 40th birthday was certainly memorable (as landmark birthdays should be) – I spent it in a bar surrounded by drag queens. I've long since adored drag queens, and find them great fun (some people seem almost threatened by them, but I say, hey, what's the problem!). Here are some of the reasons why I love drag queens. 1. ComplimentI think one of the reasons why some people don't like drag queens is that they feel that it's an insult to women. I don't agree at all. In fact, I think it's a compliment to us. Sure, it's a rather exaggerated version of femininity, but in a way no more excessive than they way some women dress! The showmanship of drag queens suggests that they want to have fun, not parody or insult 'real women'. 2. TributeWhile some drag queens choose their own style, others dress as a tribute to a singer or actress. Considering that acting is about pretending to be someone else, and singing is often very flamboyant, it seems logical that some drag queens base their act on a famous woman. I wonder how many Lady GaGa tributes there are? 3. FunI'm no great expert on transvesticism, but it seems to me that it is a far more complicated issue than dressing up for a performance. Drag queens simply want to have fun. And boy, do they ever! They're also great fun for anyone open-minded enough to enjoy their outrageousness. |
| 7 Most Deadly Tsunamis in History … Posted: 13 Apr 2011 10:04 AM PDT The tsunami in Japan caused by an earthquake of M8.9 has brought us sharply back to the realization that we are mere pawns in the hands of nature. Nature can unleash her fury upon us and in many cases; we are likely to be completely helpless. Look at the 7 most deadly tsunamis in history and you will see the loss of life and property that followed in its aftermath. 1. 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami

Over 226,000 people perished in this tsunami. 2. 1908 Messina tsunami
This was the second largest and one of the most deadly tsunamis in history. It killed over 123,000 people. On December 28, 1908, an earthquake of magnitude 7.1 hit Messina, a city in Sicily, Italy and caused a tsunami. Over 90% of Messina was destroyed by the tsunami that followed the earthquake. 3. 1755 Lisbon tsunami
The 1755 Lisbon tsunami was caused by an earthquake measuring magnitude 9 which caused 6 feet high waves to come crashing into and completely destroying the city of Lisbon in the Kingdom of Portugal. Around 100,000 are estimated to be dead in this earthquake-tsunami. |

No one wants to look like they should be standing over a photocopier and not next to the bar, so ladies, I've come up with a list of 7 ways to take your office wear out on the town. 1. Be Prepared
If you often find yourself having to rush straight from work to a snazzy restaurant or bar, you should try to keep yourself prepared. Make sure there's a little extra make up in your handbag and maybe even a dressier top. Often, the key to successfully transforming your outfit lies in adjusting one or two simple details – a slick or red lipstick or glittery scarf might be enough to take you from the office to out on the town. 2. Hair Rescue
If you find yourself absolutely unprepared to take on a fancy, after hours establishment, a quick change of hairstyle can help to upgrade your look. If it's been in a bun or a plait all day, let it out and make the most of those sexy, voluminous waves. Add some oomph to a straightforward working pony tail by giving yourself a little volume in the crown or over your forehead. 3. Make Up Matters
Your make up, along with your hairstyle, is probably going to be the most important day – night alteration you make. Remember that before you apply more layers to your face, you'll need to clean up any flakes and smudges. Only once you're looking clean and fresh again can you begin to rework your office facepaint. |
