| 10 Ways to Deal with Negative People … Posted: 26 Jan 2011 11:38 AM PST After spending enough time in the company of other people, you and I know that there are individuals that radiate negativity. These negative people are like black holes who take out the light and energy out of you. They are social vampires who suck the life out of you. They come in many forms such as the whiners, blamers, and drama queens in your social circle. Interacting with them can be draining and can leave you wanting fresh, positive air. They make you feel on guard and unsafe. They give off such bad vibes that you can't wait to get away. If you don't want to constantly feel this way, then you need to find a way to cope with the negative people in your life. Once you identify them, try to use these tips to handle them. 1. BoundariesThe first thing you need to do is to set clear boundaries for your interaction with these people. What is the nature of your relationship? Is there a way you can minimize interaction with them? Determine how much time you want to spend with them. Make sure you are firm about sticking to your boundaries. 2. Try to UnderstandSometimes, when you understand people's motivations and reasons for the things they do, it becomes a bit easier to deal with them. Try to understand the cause of people's negativity. It might help you choose the right approach when talking to them. 3. DetachmentMost of the time, dealing with negative people drains of your energy. The key to not letting this happen is to be emotionally detached. Don't get sucked into the negative talk. Negative people talk about their woes because they want to get a reaction from you. Instead of buying into that, remain detached and don't give them the satisfaction of pulling you into a negative spiral. You have to be in control of your reactions, emotions, and your own energy. |
| 7 Ethnic Body Modifications from around the World … Posted: 26 Jan 2011 11:37 AM PST
 1. Neck Rings
Even though it looks as if these women’s necks are super long, in reality, these rings have changed the way their shoulders are shaped. The women of Thailand begin to wear these heavy neckrings at about five years old. Over the years, it changes their normal shoulder growth, creating the look of a long neck. Sadly, the women that are like this today are used more as a tourism trap than anything else. They live their lives being gauked at and getting thier picture taken by people touring their village. 2. Lip Plates
Though many tribes in Africa have practiced this lip streaching thing over the years, only a couple continue to practice it today – the Mursi people and the Suri people of Ethiopia. The original reasons for creating this massive lip plate was to prevent men from taking the tribal women as slaves. Now, it is considered a thing of beauty. Six months to a year before a girl is old enough to marry, she goes through the stretching process, starting with a hole large enough for a stick, and eventually a plate. The larger the plate, the more the girl is worth in dowry. For the unlucky few who experience the lip breaking, they lose any chance of marrying, unless they find an old man or a someone who is sick. |
| Posted: 26 Jan 2011 11:22 AM PST There are tons of cool tech products that will be making their debut in the coming year. Because I am super excited about a lot of them, I decided to highlight 8 cool tech products that will be coming out in 2011. For some of them, you can’t even anticipate what they’re going to cost because the manufacturers are being uber closed mouth, but hey, you can at least dream, right? 1. Nintendo 3DS
Photo Credit: HK-DMZ 3D is totally in, you can see that from all the movies coming out in 3D, not to mention the innovation of 3D TVs. Nintendo intends to join the revolution: at some point in 2011 (it looks like it’s going to be March), Nintendo will be launching the 3DS. Clever, right? Nintendo DS, 3DS … get it? The top screen will be 3D, the graphics are supposed to be stellar, you can connect to Wi-Fi, and each half of the 3D pictures you see will have its own camera. 2. RIM Playbook
Photo Credit: Sprint Users Research in Motion, or RIM, has long been a popular phone manufacturer, but in 2011 the company will be throwing its hand into the ring to go up against the iPad. Starting somewhere beneath four hundred bucks, you’ll be able to get the RIM Playbook early in the new year. 3. Motorola Android Tablet
Photo Credit: socialmediaseo.net The Android has become just about as popular as the iPhone, and in 2011, it will be launching a Motorola tablet. The tablet will run Gingerbread, which is Android 2.3. Some leaks suggest that Verizon users will be the lucky ducks who get to use the tablet. Given the things the Android can do, it’s sure to be super cool. |
| Posted: 26 Jan 2011 09:53 AM PST Before starting this post, I should be honest. The Wii does not technically belong to me. The Better Half bought it when we first started dating. Now it is my Wii-by-proxy. That still counts, right? And I still love it. It’s my favorite video gaming console besides the PlayStation 2. Yes, I am behind the times, but MediEvil is a PS2 game and that is my favorite and anyway, I’m rambling, so here are 7 reasons I love my Wii. 1. The Trauma Center SeriesOhhh man. I don’t play a whole lot of video games, but until college, I wanted to be a doctor (forensic pathologist, y’all!) more than anything. Since I obviously cannot cut things up in real life, doing it in video games is fun for me, and that pretty much explains why I love the Trauma Center series: Under the Knife 1 & 2, Second Opinion, and New Blood. I like them on the Wii because the controllers lend themselves so well to the game. And that’s all I’m going to say, so I don’t risk sounding creepy! 2. ExercisingLots of gaming platforms are starting to promote exercise but the Wii is still my favorite. Wii Fit is awesome, and so versatile, plus there are tons of other games that help keep you active. Even the games the console comes with, the sports games (more about those in a minute) promote activity and exercise. 3. Watching NetflixNetflix is one of my favorite things ever, and once I found out you could play movies through the Wii, I was all over that. Since so many of Netflix’s movies can be watched instantly now, I don’t even have a DVD subscription anymore. I watch random crap whenever I possibly can, it’s awesome. Plus I am saving a fortune, not having all those premium movie channels on the cable. |
| 8 Things You Should Never Say to your Man … Posted: 26 Jan 2011 09:49 AM PST If you are in a relationship and you like the way it's going then there are a few things you should never say to your guy. Men are like little toddlers, they lose interest very quickly and as soon as you come across as needy, whiny or clingy, they're going to hit the road. Here are 8 things you should never say to your man. 1. Do you think she is pretty? If you ask your man this question, you're sending him to the gallows. If he says yes, then you'll probably get jealous or ask him an even more difficult question like 'is she pretty than me?' If he says no, you'll think he's lying and wonder what else he lies about. Finally if he really convinces you that he doesn't find her pretty and she actually is, you'll start worrying what his bad taste says about your looks. 2. When will I see you again? This is one of the clingiest questions you can ask a guy. Get a hold of yourself. If he likes you, you will see him again. If he doesn't like you, he's not worth your time. 3. Did you sleep with her?Does it really matter if he slept with her? Notice the focus on the past. Does he need to know all the guys you slept with? All that matters is whether he's sleeping with her now so this is definitely one of the things you should never say to your guy. |
| 9 Things Your Party Guests Will Never Say … Posted: 26 Jan 2011 09:41 AM PST Have you ever attended or actually hosted a really awkward, awful party? Maybe it has all the right ingredients, but it just doesn’t take off. It’s a party dud. In those cases, you or the host in question probably spends a lot of time wondering what the guests were thinking. I can help you out a little bit, by sharing the secrets of these 9 things your party guests may think but will never actually say to you. 1. They can’t eat your foodYou may have the best food possible, but if you’re throwing a party where there aren’t a lot of places to sit, you need to make sure your guests can eat it. If everyone is standing around and mingling, if there are seats but no real table space, and you’re serving things that need to be cut up or something, how are your guests supposed to eat that? They’re wondering the same thing, but might not be comfortable enough to tell you. 2. They don’t know where to sitSeating charts and things like that are great. They can help you organize your party, they help your guests mingle with different people, and it can keep guests who don’t like each other away from each other. But if you’re the only one who actually knows the seating chart, guests what? Your guests aren’t going to know where to sit and may end up milling around like little lost lambs. 3. There’s no room in hereIt’s great if you have a ginormous spread of food. Variety is the spice of life, it will be delicious. But you can’t take up so much room that your guests don’t really have any space to walk around and mingle together. They’re not going to sit there and complain to your face about the lack of room (probably), but that doesn’t mean they aren’t thinking about it. |
| 7 Best Celebrity Role Models … Posted: 26 Jan 2011 08:46 AM PST Believe it or not, not all celebs have to flash their naked butt just to get the magazine cover. In fact, there is a whole bunch of them I admire and consider good role models. These women are not perfect, ideally beautiful or a size 0. They are unique, proud for who they are, successful, creative and strong enough to face any negative feedback and turn it around. So, here they are – gorgeous Hollywood ladies I consider worth looking up to: 1. Sandra Bullock
Sandra is definitely one of my favorite celebrities and I respect her even more after the scandal with the cheating ex-husband Jesse James broke out. She is a true lady, sweet, natural and funny but she has a strong side too. She was strong enough to leave Jesse and proud enough not to talk trash about him. Now, isn't that a woman with a capital W? 2. Miley Cyrus
I, personally, can't stand Miley but I wouldn't go that far and say that she's bad or anything. She is a sweet kid, a normal teen and you can't blame her for being popular. Growing up in front of the cameras is hard, you guys. She can't stay 14 forever. She's growing up, your kids will grow up too. And guess what? It's better for them to grow up slowly with Miley than to watch sweet Britney lose her marbles, shave her head and flash her butt around. 3. Pink
Yeah, I know she's crazy but that's exactly the reason why I love her. Pink is different than any other celebrity. She doesn't feel the need to fit in and become just another pretty face. She even had a song about that, remember? Pink actually had the guts to sing about strong women, successful women, women that use their head for thinking and prefer working hard rather than using good looks and dumb trick to get to the top. |
| 9 Most Threatened Animal Species … Posted: 26 Jan 2011 08:34 AM PST I love all animals and can't imagine the earth without them. Sure, my snuggly cats and dog are excellent companions, but I can't help but worry about the wild animals whose numbers are continually declining. Here are the 9 most threatened animals species that I could find. 9. Bluefin Tuna
People love their tuna, whether it's fresh or canned. Due to the high demand for tuna, this large ocean-going fish is often over-fished. The market for tuna is very high in Japan. For example, a tuna weighing more than 400 pounds will go for hundreds of thousands of dollars on the market. Only recently have aquaculturists succeeded in breeding and raising captive Bluefin Tuna. 8. Javan Rhinoceros
Poaching and deforestation have caused the number of wild Javan Rhinoceros to drop down to less than 60 animals. These large mammals are very close to becoming extinct. The Vietnam War took out a lot of the habitat where these rhinos live. The fewer rhinos there are, the less genetic diversity there will be, which tends to increase the chances of these animals dying from disease and too much inbreeding. 7. Tiger
Forests where tigers live are being cut down at an alarming rate. Most people imagine tigers as living in an area similar to that of the lions, but this isn't so. Deforestation isn't the only issue threatening the existence of tigers. The climate change is also reducing their natural habitat. Poachers are known for capturing and killing tigers as well, due to the market that still exists for tiger skins and using various parts of the tiger's body for Asian medicines. |
| 18 Popular Keywords for Articles/Blogs … Posted: 26 Jan 2011 08:23 AM PST Internet business owners spend a great deal of time thinking of online marketing and advertising strategies they can use in order to draw targeted visitors to their web site. I am constantly thinking of new ways to get people to my site – contentwritersrevenue.com. By using search engine optimization the right way in articles/blogs that you write, you can really make out. It is always a good idea to feature keywords on your site, blogs and articles. If you choose a popular keyword or phrase, then you will find yourself competing with other businesses that are trying to get the top spot on search engines. The trick would be to use keywords that are relevant to your site, yet unused. This can be challenging as many popular keywords have already been discovered and used. You may want to use some common spelling errors in the keywords. You should always be on the lookout for some new keywords you can use in order to keep your pages up to date. Relevance, with keywords, is the most important in web site optimization. If you find the popular keywords, yet have no relevance to your site, then it will not do you any good. I'm not sure exactly what type of blog, site or article you will be creating, so I am going to give you a mix of keywords that you will be able to use. Take note that these are not placed in any direct order and I have been an SEO writer for over 6 years now. 18. AnimalsThis would be a great one if you have a website on animals. 17. Airline TicketsThis is great if you have a website on travel. 16. ApartmentsGreat if you have a website on places to live and travel. 15. Kim KardashianIf you have a web site on celebrities, then you must include this name. 14. World of WarcraftThis is great for gaming sites, like my husbands. 13. AsbestosThis is great for health sites. 12. MesotheliomaI see this a lot on lawyer/health sites. 11. Funny VideosDo you have some funny videos on your site? Do you blog about funny videos a lot? 10. LoveThis is great on romance sites, dating advice sites and other sites like allwomenstalk.com. |

| 7 Ways to Become a Better Listener … Posted: 26 Jan 2011 06:38 AM PST It seems that some people are naturals at being good listeners, just like some people are naturals at being good talkers. My husband and I seem to work very well together; he's a talker and I'm a listener. I'll have to give him some credit though because he actually is a very good listener as well. People are always calling on him for advice on some dilemma in their lives. If you think your listening skills could use some honing, then take a look at these 7 ways to become a better listener. 7. Care about what the other person has to sayIt's extremely difficult to listen to someone yammering on about something when you really don't care about what they are saying. When you find yourself not caring about what someone is talking about, maybe try putting yourself in their shoes. Sometimes looking at a supposed dilemma through the eyes of another makes you care a bit more about their feelings and this just might make you a better listener. 6. Be interested in learningThe desire to learn about what someone is discussing with others usually makes people better listeners. This is obvious when gossip results from something overheard at the grocery store. But, having an interest in learning does also help when listening is necessary for school or work purposes as well. 5. Focus on what is being saidTrying hard to focus on what someone is saying will help you to pay a bit more attention to the details being divulged. Maintaining focus sometimes takes a lot of will power. It might be hard to keep from drifting off at times, but stick with it and focus hard on the person speaking. Watch their mouth move if necessary. I find that this helps me to understand what they are saying. Plus, I'm a bit hard of hearing in one ear and I don't always catch certain words in a conversation, unless I'm watching the person's mouth as he/she speaks. |
| 8 Tips on Painting the Perfect Picture … Posted: 26 Jan 2011 05:41 AM PST I'm no renowned artist, but I think I've got the hang of painting a good picture when I really want to. Whether you are simply dabbling a bit or serious about painting, here are 8 tips on painting the perfect picture that I have gotten to work well for me. Maybe you'll find these tips helpful in creating a whole new style of your very own. Feel free to pass them on to others as well. 8. Know the elements of proper compositionThe balance of left to right, front to back, light and shade, and color are all parts of composition. Have you ever looked at a painting that had a large or dark portion on one side of the painting only? Didn't this cause the painting to look as if it should be drooping down on one side, as if the painting was heavier on one end? This type of painting is the result of poor composition. Make sure you picture is well balanced on all sides and in all areas. 7. Be familiar with the technical aspects of paintingOils and water colors aren't generally used within the same picture. It's best to stick to the same medium throughout the entire project. Have the type of paints you wish to use in mind and don't change halfway through the project. 6. Have the right equipmentFor instance, you wouldn't use a house brush to paint a fine line. The type of brushes you are using, as well as the material you will be painting on should work well together. If you have any questions about the materials you are using, ask a friend who knows a bit about painting or research the type of paints you are using. It would be a shame to have your painting be a warped and wrinkled mess because you used paints that were too heavy for the type of material you painted the picture onto. |

| 7 Reasons Call of Duty Rocks … Posted: 25 Jan 2011 11:24 PM PST Though I normally only play RPG's, I have to admit I've been sucked into the Call of Duty series. It's bloody violent, wickedly gory, and utterly addicting. What is it about this series of games (7 in total) that makes it so fantastic? Here are 7 reasons Call of Duty rocks… 1. The game playThe plots and missions are extensive and deep, some with actual real historical background. The game play is intense, and rewarding, in a way most first-person shooters are not. I loved the game play in the first Medal of Honor game, but the game play in the CoD series may be even better. 2. The charactersMyself, I'm partial to Captain Price and “Soap” MacTavish, but almost all of the characters in CoD are marvelous, with excellent voice acting (including Avatar's Sam Worthington). I love the foul language, the grit, and the humor written into the characters. I'm so glad they bring some of them back, title after title! 3. The weapons!Let's face it: in real life, very few of us will ever have the chance to be in the same room with a Gewehr 43 or even an AK-47, not to mention actually firing them. As an occasional marksman, I love being able to blow things to smithereens with exotic or historically-significant weapons. It's fun, and I'm never going to get a chance to do it in real life. |
